I sold cars in college. even if the salesman wants to do the right thing and make the deal, the management apply a strangle hold on the process. their mentality is unapologetic greed. when i bought my used camry in 2018,. I went to two new car dealerships and they marked the price up when I entered the dealership. was 6600 on the internet but skyrocketed to 8600 when I walked in. that is unethical. I walked out. another one wanted an obscene price on a camry. I walked out. they are just greedy and unethical. it is a big ticket item and people have a hard time deciding what to eat for dinner let a lone spend 40k for a car.
No "Moral Compass" 📲💻📡🌎
Not only car dealers, but realtors also. Grifters abound.
Everywhere it must be a special talent
well said MGM. will never use a realtor.
MD are the worst of all
I've said it before, "even if I won the lottery, I wouldn't waste my time and money at the stealership, I would buy a used car (2 to 4 year old vehicle)
because used car dealers and sellers are exemplars of honest and integrity.
Scotty Kilmer channel is a great place to start. You don't even have to be mechanically inclined to understand. He saved me lots of money. I do most of my work. Always buy OEM for electronic parts as you want the software to work properly. I had EGR valves not work for that long or well when not using OEM.
I agree critical electronic or internal engine parts should be OEM but things like starters, alternators etc could save money elsewhere
@@markholubetz True, My nephew sold his BMW X3. He is a millwright and does his own work. He replaced all the cheap plastic and cheap parts like the water pump which had a plastic prop in it with a lower priced and better made aftermarket brand.
Perfect name for dealerships
i wish i could buy directly from the manufacturer and never go to a dealership for a new vehicle
Many people really feel that way
Tesla
Never have your car serviced at a stealer ship unless it’s a manufacturer recall.
Between you and my father I've learned a lot about buying cars .I appreciate your informative videos especially these types of videos (how to make a good deal)😊🙂
I respect a man that takes pride in driving something from 2003...I do the same...
Japanese or F150, everything else is often junk.
Mass lay offs at dealers will happen in the next months... you will see. Only ones safe in that model, are the mecchanics. Service brings them more money than sales. Just wait and see.... it will happen.
Yes the dealer business model may switch out to remote sales like Tesla
I texted a sales lady last week about a truck. It's been for sale for a while and I still thinks it's only worth the 20k vice the 24 they have been asking for for months. She legit said I would wash cars on their lot to make up the difference.... I then told her I'm a veteran on disability and would likely not be a good car washer anymore....radio silence since. Frog I hate dealerships...
Thanks Mark for the info....I agree 100%....i avoid the dealer and the parts dept...i been fixing cars for 40 years....as a DIY'er.....stealerships have dug their own graves.....and truthfully its been a longtime coming...Another great video Mark!! cya on the next one.
Right on, I agree, their own actions and zero integrity have caused this lack in trust
They underpay as well
They tried adding $3500 on our new Mazda I said remove them then we will talk. Got a good deal after that.
Yes gotta keep these dealers in check
FANTASTIC video Mark! They truly are STEALERSHIPS, my brother has been in the Automotive Sales, and Management Business for over 22 years, the stories I could share with you......... Thank you again for sharing another amazing TH-cam video with all of us, take care, cheers!
Thank you a lot for your comment and yes there are a ton of of stories on these trucks and transactions, lol
@markholubetz You're welcome, especially during the pandemic. My brother was able to turn and burn vehicle's so easily, and the profits they made, both during the sale, and on the back-end in the finance office, truly insane!
I know someone who told me his boss paid $600 for an oil change at a BMW dealer in Kelowna. May have had more done. In 2010 an acquaintance was looking at a new Mercedes and the price at the dealership in Kelowna was the same as the dealerships in Vancouver. The one in Kelowna was used by the owner's wife and already had 35K (21K miles). No doubt mostly city miles. Like the song says."You better shop around."
Yes my experience is the thieving “luxury brands” such as BMW, Audi etc are charging huge money for shop rates, oil services. Diagnostics eyc
The last new car I bought was my 2020 GMC AT4. I already had financing lined up and basically had a blank check. Went to the dealership, after a little discussion I ended up walking out with it at MSRP plus a $700 rebate. I got 2.5% interest in August of 2020 and the truck for $64k. Was only in there for about an hour. Very good salesmanship!
Late 2019, trade-in 2016 Camry XLE trim, with 20K in rural miles. It was obviously their second car mom drove into town. It was in very clean shape. Detailing took no time. I bought my own OEM weather proof rubber matts. I live a rougher life and I was right to do so since the car itself is still clean but I did have to hose off the trunk one recently.
There was a car company that sold their cars at MSRP plus taxes and license and that was IT. The sales staff was NOT paid commission but hourly. Great execution....not so great product. Saturn.
A great buying experience doesn’t mean much if you are selling cars that people don’t want to buy. You correctly point out that this was Saturn’s downfall.
@@scottferris6309 Absolutely. But being a non commission paid employee kills the need and motivation to screw people over with add ons that pump up that employees paycheck while screwing over a paying customer.
We are definitely going into a new way of buying cars. Since covid and buying cars online has begun a new way of doing things. Think about all the big box stores going out of bussiness to people buying things with online bussiness. Its just a situation where dealers evolve or die. Just like anything else
You are right. That’s going to be the way. Sink or swim
Yeah I sat there at the ford and argued the markup on front hubs.they lowered my bill 3 times until I was satisfied and had told them if they can’t do better on the rip off parts prices I would go somewhere else in the future. They made me prove to them that oem parts from other ford sellers were a better price.
exactly right. great advice
I’ve only ever bought an extended warranty once on a car but it was direct from GM. And it came in handy. But i would never get a third party warranty.
laws need to be changed so car makers can sell direct to consumer without having to find loop holes like tesla.
Dealerships need to feel the pain
For sure, but with poor sales these days they are starting to feel some pain
I have not figured out my local Subaru dealer. They charge me $32 for a gallon of 50/50 subaru coolant which is the same price as any online retailer (with obvious shipping savings). But they'll charge me over $8 for a bolt that has a list price of $3.29 and online retailers sell it for $2.59. They also force me to buy certain quantities of certain bolts and washers when the online retailers don't. They also charge me high on vacuum and radiator hoses.
Because they are disingenuous and they outright lie.
Absolutely
When I had my Ford Fusion, Sunnyvale Ford tried that with me having me keep bringing in my Car to fix what ever and always I get all of these fees, $200.00 diagnostic fee and then all of the other BS they add on, I had enough with any dealer and I too have a very nice professional scan tablet tool. It is the same one the dealers use cost me about $1100.00 but it is mine and I will help others with it's use.
That is awesome and it pays for itself very quickly
The finance guy is always the guy I dread.
Yeh...I understand. When I bought my new Camry in 2020 of course I ended up with the finance guy. What a snake!. He tried to sell me 3 different very expensive extended warranties. I didn't buy any. Also, he told me Toyota "breaks in" every engine at the factory! I knew that was totally BS and stupid. They are even willing to totally lie to you...like that!
Good video
Thanks for the visit
Unless it is the Toyota or Honda 1 year certified used warranty is often useless. The one they try to sell you on is not what they claim and items like the powertrain attach to the car not the owner like the 3 years free service does. 95% of their certified use cars are trade-ins for the current years model, the other 5% are repo's. One have one of each type.
Caredge is the solution to skip the shady stealership
If they give a price online or the radio, and I arrive at the dealership and it's higher by thousands of dollars, I'll tell them to forget it and I'll walk. I don't like liars, and I don't like those who manipulate and deceive. If we do business, you be straight with me, you be 100% honest and transparent, or I walk.
I have just about never had a good experience with one. It is all pain and suffering. This is one of the main reasons I why I love Tesla. This did not work with them. The contract was settled before walked into the door. I am an EV enthused, and I know you are not super on board with them. All that is fine, your advise I find largely sound.
Cheers
Återigen du är kanon!!!! Du låter som jag själv 🤣.
Thank you very much
Don't buy new vehicles!!!!!
agreed
especially now
I don't like being followed around or I ask about information on a car then get a three day harassment phone calls seeing if I want to buy the car. I went to a Nissan dealership years ago shook the hand of the car salesman he wore enough hand lotion it made my hand greasy. I also went to another dealership and instead of a firm handshake the car salesman gave me a lip wrist hand shake I walked out. I went to a Ford dealership in Lacombe was looking at an F-150 car sales man was hanging off my truck having a smoke like he owned it. I told him he does it again I will knock his ass out and any damage he will be paying for it. You don't hang off a persons car like a monkey at the zoo. My ex went to a Toyota dealership to look at a Venza and the sales man ignored her and tried to pawn a Tacoma off on me.
Those extended warranties can be pricey determined by coverage and time.
I NEVER repair my car at a dealer, NEVER.
I just put 4 brand new tires on my X4. I put the same tires on my vehicle as it came with. The dealership wanted $1,900 for the tires plus $159 for a wheel alignment. I got them mounted and out the door for $1,331. Then they wonder why people don't trust them.
Camry tires cost half that.
@toriless There is a big difference between the tires that are on my X4 M4OIand your Toyota Camry. I have Pirelli P7 on my X4, and it come with a spare, so they have to be run flat. Besides that my X4 is 50 times better than your Camry, and I have nothing against the Camry. But when you buy a sports Sedan, you have to buy tires that can handle it.
The most laughable add-on is Nitrogen for the tires. I love the look on their faces when I tell them that the very air we breath is 78% Nitrogen.
That’s one of the biggest joke and I suppose they old the car up with sky hooks
My brother is a master ASE tech- I asked him about nitrogen in the tires. He said maybe if I’m running the Indy 500.
I laughed when that gimmick started lol..
It is free at Costco. I would never buy tires anywhere else anyway.
paying more for everything is part of the bmw, audi, mb experience
My brother went to Gordon BMW. He went in for Brakes and they threw in an additional 16% credit card fee. My local Ed Morse charged me handling'fee when I needed a gallon of coolant. Be aware people.
In 1965 the CEO of GM made $843,000 while the average income was $6900/yr. In 2023, the GM CEO made $27.8 million which means the the average income ( when using a percentage of the CEO salary) would be $250.,000/yr. As you can see the so called free market is plainly being steered in one direction only.
There is nothing better than a Canadian saying, "Hoser," eh?
my local ford dealer does treat me ok my company i work for buys all their pickups from them.
Preferred customers get great treatment sometimes
@markholubetz my dealership is a small town dealer which i find better than the auto mall type he doesn't have alot of overstock like the mega dealer that loves to do spot delivery loans
Jag kör en Suzuki grand vitara 2,5 v6 4x4 1999. Det är i princip inga reparationer som jag inte klarar av själv.
It’s very easy to own a vehicle like that
There's a stealership in Northern Illinois that pulled the bait and switch on my dad years ago when he traded his Cobalt for a Sonic they gave us good numbers for trade and for the car he bought and then they lowered the trade and raised the car dad bought and they threatened to throw me out when I was getting extremely upset 😡
I just bought a 23 f150 5.0 here in the Vancouver area, it was a left over. I got them to take 18,000 off the sticker. But now I'm concerned with the 5.0 oil leak that's possible near the oil filter housing. Thoughts?
Get the UV set Scotty Kilmer talks about
damn
Yes
GMC dealership Robbed my grandfather for $3900 to change an AC compressor on a 2018 1500 GMC Denali with ONLY 19K miles, The truck was out of warranty, "F: GM
did they put a gun to his head? just curious
@@marcinlos2562 Nope, he is just dumb enough to use a dealership and not a mechanic.
100 bucks for an air filter is why
Yes true
10 on Amazon
If dealerships acted ethically and treated their customers with dignity and respect, they could actually increase their sales and profits because they would be an island of integrity in a sea of crooks.
That’s a fair statement
Amvic is a Crooked operation they patronized me for almost 6 months 100 phone calls over Capital Dodge traded them a mint Dodge Ram fully loaded premium for a little jeep compass, turned out the compass was in an accident brand new there was an accident in the dealership parking lot in winter. The front fender was replaced and the paint was shit. Went to two an actual dogde body shop at Leduc doge they gave me a quote to fix the paint and said the fender was replaced on a Brand new vehicle that was delivered as New with zero accidents. Amvic ended up allowing the Peace Officer to give them a warning because apparently it was a first offense. Wouldn't reverse my deal that I wanted my truck back couldn't believe amvic screwed me they are a total scam W5 did two documentaries on Scamvic
Thanks for sharing and yes I also have personal experience on the dealers in question. Yes there are too many in the back pocket of these dealers and the little guy rarely has anyone in our corner.
@@markholubetz Thanks for your support I'm very glad I found your channel 👋
AS IS
I have this exact experience with Toyota in California. I call Texas Toyota the manufacturer About my 2020 Toyota Corolla Mileage claim of 36MPG. mine gets 22 MPG. they said it should be under a 5-year emission warranty and told me to take it into the local Toyota dealer, end up getting charged for $660 Just for a diagnostic because there was nothing wrong with my car, they claimed. I have to pay out of my pocket, and after speaking to the service manager, he took 50% off and still end up paying $330. What a whip-off, just for diagnostic: They hooked up their master scanner and scan my car, that's it.
What the F is a "whip-off" ??
car dealership groups have a lot of money to buy a lot of politicians. bought and paid for politicians are never going to pass laws to criminalize car dealer's predatory behavior (or even enforce stuff that's been on the books for over 100 years, like the prohibition against tied selling). as long as politicians can be bought and paid for, car dealers will continue to abuse the public.
Actually several laws exist, I know a TH-cam person that all he does is lemon law cases in his state.
Never goto infinity they marked up their parts 400% the counter lady actually told me their cost.
or ANY dealer
I don't see how they are going to keep the lights on at the dealerships.
They have been in trouble for over a year.
When I buy a refridgerator it is $999.00 period, take it or leave it. Cars should be the same process.
buy tesla
If they gave me the car for free, I’d still feel like I’m getting screwed.
Haha
Have some protection when you are meeting someone for a private sale. 😂
1000 percent
El carro americano no sirve para nada muchos problemas da huuuff
lol you're going to walk over a $10 AMVIC levy?
i am thinking the same .... AMVIC fee a DEAL killer lol
Principles and YEs
@@markholubetz so if the dealership discounted the price of the car $10, that would have made you happy?
Who are the peoples who runs those companies I thought they were the smartest in the world. 😅
Yeah, only medicine is worse, will this cost $40 or $40,000, you never know.
We hate salesmen, all of them. They all suck
Nice
Yep. There is a mental deficiency is some peoples brains that make them become sales people.
sad for you
American like to gives $ away! 😅
Canadians even more
Selling that trade in at 3am by the dumpster in the alley behind the porno theatre 😂🤣
you did not say anything new, this information has been around for many years. you sound like you got hurt, you are painting all dealers with one brush unfortunately. dealerships are for profit businesses. maybe you should look into other fields where people are getting taken for money..... i think you worry about the small peanuts.
We have all been on the receiving end of greedflation whether it’s food, housing, and cars. That does not change the fact that the “working class” bears the burden of extreme taxation and corporate greed
I will never walk into another dealership ever again.
There are great options
