My girlfriend who’s never played a Pokémon game recently saw me playing shining pearl and said she wanted to try one of the games. And my first choice was sword/shield……. Now… she’s twerking to the theme

I honestly don’t mind too much that you can’t enter all the homes, since most of the time you just run into them once to see which ones have key items. I will say that the shops can be a bit annoying, since there are a few that look like you should be able to go in but can’t.
even if they had made ONE shop model and slightly changed it, it wouldve felt better. the first time i played sc/vi i was impressed and then got smacked in the face with all shops being pop-up menus.
Yeah being unable to enter shops was disappointing, especially since they were all repeats anyway. Makes it feel a lot less justified that they didn’t have shop interiors when they could have used the same ones over and over.
THE ANIMATIONS WERE SO SLICK AND EYE POPPING THO Even the simpler ones like flamethrower, giga drain, drain punch and shadow ball were awesome Also Eternabeam’s animation is sixteen fucking seconds long
i think the best part of sword and shield was honestly the fact that leon wasn't just champion. he was a celebrity, and one that you could look up to, unlike geeta, who just felt like another boring champion who had to work as champion. the introduction to gen 9, walking up to the campus is something i'll probably forget. but leon visiting our home, the crowd that came to see him, his persona... now that is a true champion. and he's(i think) the only champion to date with the gall to stand up to a legendary!(correct me if i'm wrong)
Dragapult is such a cool looking pokémon and is the immediate pokémon I think of when I think of cool/good modern pokémon designs. It's funny because I never used any of the dragapult line in my playthrough
It’s 50/50 for me. I love Pokémon like Dragapult, Toxtricity, and Polteageist, but I’m not gonna sit here and pretend I don’t adore Ceruledge, Tinkaton, Ogerpon, and Skeledurge.
The best thing sv did was the improvements and textures added to the 3d models of Pokemon finally getting to the point where they look better than the sprites
Move animations especially unique move animations. An amazing example is Regidragos move animation, in gen 9 it's basically a recolored orgin pulse. Spirit shackle, Pyro ball, darkest lariat, so many moves got different animations that are honestly worse looking.
The only thing that held SwSh back for me, was that the story felt too rushed. It was like it wanted to do so many things, but just didnt get the chance to(It's like it forgot that stories are supposed to have a middle inbetween the Beginning and End). SV was one of the first pokemon games where I actually got invested in the characters and their development(though it's worth noting that I havent played any games before gen 6 yet).
I think the town designs in SV were intentionally like that to provide some immersion to the open world by making them seem more realistic by design, which I think is further supported by the fact you can’t just walk into anyone’s house.
Nah you did not act like the Gym music held a candle to SwSh. For one it was clear that SV was outright trying yo copy the vibe of SwSh. Which COULD be fine - it's their franchise. But the reason it worked for SwSh in the first place is because of the arena/sports setting. Move to SV and the Choir sounds like it has more people than u see in the crowd for your battles. Which is crazy because the music sounds empty itself (I'll elaborate later.) Plus ngl the music itself was just... serviceable. In my opinion. It really felt like the artist was told they HAD to make it sound like SwSh's music since it was so gotdamn popular & rather than using the lilitations to inspire them, they just checked out & did juuuust *enough* rather than something they arranged with heart. And why do I feel this way (Aside from gut feeling & vibes lol)? Well. Just. Speaking as a composer, the changes are minimal, there are fewer phases, the music itself is less full-feeling due to how much unison they employ (like seriously -- WHERE ARE THE CHORDS) -ahem- ... Honestly if you told me they used the software vocals & not actual people I would believe you because in Galar we got very clear "Hey!"s but here it's??? "Ehh-ehh-hh..."?? Or some other nondescript vocalization that anything nowadays could produce. HHH- okay I'm sorry I gotta shut up I'm actually getting more frustrated the more I look at it from this angle so let me stop. 🤦🏾♀️
It’s a shame the cities in Paldea were so lacklustre because there was potential. There was clearly an effort to make each one visually distinct but they didn’t do enough to make that any more than simple set dressing. Giving us some points of interest other than the gyms in each town would have gone a long way.
Dude I had tonsa fun on my first playthrough of Shield. Personally I don't care about the graphical fidelities or the difficulty so it was easier for me to enjoy it. But yeah Sword and Shield they're excellent pokémon games imo
I personally like the campsite from Sw/Sh over the picnic from Sc/Vi; feels way more interactive and the sandwich eating animation in Sc/Vi is god awful
Personally i prefer sword and shield, the designs as you said are better both for the towns and the charachters too for me, I love the crystal part of scarlet and violet but the rest of the graphis is so bad, also, the music is great in sword and shield
Gen 2 was practically just dlc which is why it’s so barren. But in my heart Gen 8 will always be the worst, if you want reason RadicalSoda did a pretty good job covering literally everything.
The raids were INFINITELY better in swsh. For one they were more organized, especially in dynamax adventures it was a real challenge and everything felt so strategic. As opposed to the sheer janky chaos of tera raids. I mean my espathra died during the cinderace raid. When Nothing happened whatsoever.
The one thing I say sword and shield did better that’s not in this video is Raids. The time limit was stupid they’re extremely laggy and usually end because the final attack hit right as the timer ends
I like dynamaxing much more than terastalization. About 75% of the time I completely forget about it and just never terastalize. It's a lot more underwhelming than dynamaxing
I personally enjoyed the feel of the Galar region more, mostly because I am from that area irl but also having gyms as the big sporting events of the Pokemon world makes so much sense
My biggest disappointment in SV was that the terrestrialization of the gym leaders ace was just the same type as the gym I expected their tera type to be one that covered their weaknesses I solo'd all but 1 gym with Fuecoco Crocalor and Skeledirge the entire game
Menu navigation and the ability of viewing the map are two things I liked better in gen 8. I feel like the map in SV is too far zoomed in and when you try to zoom out you get the entire overview but can't navigate it
I'm not a fan of GF trying to re-use the crowd cheering/singing in the Scarlet/Violet gym theme. I LOVE the gym theme in Sword/Shield, the crowd cheering during thr G-max section is amazing, but it just feels cheap for them to try and re-use it for the next gym theme. I hope they don't do that with the Gen 10 gym theme
Battles looked better in SwSh than in SV. Especially battle animations. Colors were more vibrant, the stadiums were wayy more intense. SV just feels dull in comparison.
I accept all hate for what I'm about to say. I liked sword and sheild more. (I played sheild) I'm going to add to this and say that base game sword and sheil were Allright but with DLC they were fun games (especially with dynamax adventures)
In terms of the music for the gym battles, it's Gen8 easily. Its honestly one of the few tracks I remember from Sw/Sh aside from Bede's Battle theme, Team Yell and Pier's battle theme.
I think that the creation of scarlett and violet was just too rushed, sure I'm glad I have it now but I think that just a fee more months of development and it would've been on par or even better than sword and shield
Scarlet and violet royally fucked up tms. it kinda makes sense to use the scraps from the fauna slaughtered in paldea but it gets so annoying after you build a handful of competitive teams. The biggest offender of this is Nasty Plot needing spiritomb mats, a mon who doesnt naturally respawn
I think the places where the camera is locked looked really good in SwSh. Probably because you couldn’t get a close up of the trees. I just don’t think GameFreak is ready for Open World games yet, but too late, you can’t go back now.
Tbh, S/V has better characters, because I only like FIVE characters in SW/SH (Bede, Klara, Allister Avery, and Opal) everyone else sucks. Scarlet and Violet has better characters, and it has a better story. Bro no joke the scene where Arven's Mabostiff healed, I shed tears. Also, the story of scarlet and violet is fast and fun, meanwhile sword and shield's story feels like it was dipped in molasses but I respect your opinion
bro sw/sh is 100x better than Scarlet/violet the graphics in sw/sh are way better and it’s overall has better Pokémon in it. And u can actually change clothes
I like the characters, story, and overall region in SV significantly more than SwSh, so imo SV is way better. I can ignore bad graphics (my favorite game ever, being Terraria literally has pixels for graphics), but i can't ignore an antagonist's outright stupid character motivation, and the even more stupid piers cutscene
To be fair with scarlet and violet being open world I think the towns are meant to get you out into the world where you will be spending most of your time
hard disagree on the graphics for me: imo they should've kept the "anime look" that was basically perfected in SW/SH - that was top tier PKMN graphics for me. on one hand I feel like trying to make it more realistic just doesn't suit PKMN, on the other hand it's also just not something the Switch and I guess nor the Switch 2 can handle. So just leave it anime: Looks good, looks clean, looks how it's supposed to be.
Sw/Sh was just a realized concept of a region. Paldea was so boring design wise. I think SwSh graphics worked better with pokemon too and SVs lighting was so bad
Tbh I even think the gym leaders in gen 8 were better except maybe for Larry he carried the gym leaders but gen 8 had piers Nessa raihan the o ly thing I can say for sure gen 9 had better is the plot/story
I do really enjoy gen 8’s gym leader music but the ace themes has chants that gen 9 aces in comparison to gen 8’s Gen 8 utilised chanting as a musical element and gen 9 perfected it

@@big_chortvevothe story is very good, only competitors are gen 5 and mayyybe gen 7, so its deffinitly top 3 in terms of Story, twice btw cuz the dlc slaps. There are a lot of very good or very cool pokemon introduced in gen 9, and most Bugs have been Patched. The only real complaints left is the graphics, which is fair, and the empty open World, which got way better in the DLC, especially in p2. So i have to say, that in this very World we live in, SV are Solid games
Geeta music: wasn't too bad, could've been better.
Leon music: ABSOLUTELY SLAPS!! 🔥🔥
Something will say, the sw/sh gym challenges blow the s/v ones out of the park. Not a single one in s/v is fun or challenging, while i feel like some of the ones in sw/sh were genuinly challenging and memorable, i still remember my first nuzlocke attempt in kabus gym and losing a pokemon to that team killing salandit
Dynamax in s12 was chaotic but I loved it lmao. Dynmax is probably my favorite battle gimmick, tera is close second tho. Dynamax enabled a lot of my favorite mons to be usable like dialga and made them fun
I had to go back to Sword briefly to box some legendaries for transfer to Home. It made me giddy how cool my trainer looked...
Costumization Was so much better in sword another reason why it's better
Gen 8s music slaped I can't think of a single song from sv that hyped me up like sh
I’m giving gen 8 points for the gym leaders in general, those mfs are HOT
I’m pretty sure Greta made her team the same way a lot of players make their teams… which is to say, she chose Pokémon she liked over practicality for battle. You cannot convince me Glimmora is her ace for any reason other than to make it look cooler.
This is actually really good. Every game has something that it does well. Except gen 1 and maybe 2. They were just literally broken. But they got the ball rolling.
Shhh, you can’t badmouth genwun, the fanboys won’t like it, even if it was literally held together with scotch tape, Elmer’s glue and chewed gum
My girlfriend who’s never played a Pokémon game recently saw me playing shining pearl and said she wanted to try one of the games. And my first choice was sword/shield……. Now… she’s twerking to the theme
I really like that in sword and shield the gym challenge is like a once a year major event, i think it makes the whole gym challenge better than previous gens when it doesnt seem that the challenge and beating the champion is that big of a deal
It's honestly jarring that theres just, the occasional random sandwhich shop you ARE able to enter, with an interior you can move around in.
I think dethroning a champion is so much better than, ‘I beat you now I’m a certain rank’
THE ANIMATIONS WERE SO SLICK AND EYE POPPING THO
Even the simpler ones like flamethrower, giga drain, drain punch and shadow ball were awesome
Also Eternabeam’s animation is sixteen fucking seconds long
Going back to shield right after scarlet shows how much better the art style was too. Especially the interior of building looked so much nicer!
i think the best part of sword and shield was honestly the fact that leon wasn't just champion. he was a celebrity, and one that you could look up to, unlike geeta, who just felt like another boring champion who had to work as champion. the introduction to gen 9, walking up to the campus is something i'll probably forget. but leon visiting our home, the crowd that came to see him, his persona... now that is a true champion. and he's(i think) the only champion to date with the gall to stand up to a legendary!(correct me if i'm wrong)
Bro straight up 1v1s Eternatus before the player even gets there
This is how I know SWSH had better gym music. I can remember what it sounded like.
The pokemon designs are also better in Galar too in my opinion, i don't dislike the Paldea designs, i just love a lot of Galar mons
@@Endershock1678 Ceruledge was the entire reason i picked violet lmao
@@CloutmasterPhluphyy am i the only one that prefers armarouge???
@@ImNotGoodAtAnimation I prefer armourouge aswell
SwSh legitimately had better art direction but most people aren’t ready to hear that one. It’s way more stylized
Playing back in gen 8 makes it so much better! Music designs.. the speed of loading screens and menus omg
Like; hops character arc for example was good, but I feel like it could’ve been great yknow
I think the town designs in SV were intentionally like that to provide some immersion to the open world by making them seem more realistic by design, which I think is further supported by the fact you can’t just walk into anyone’s house.
You're forgetting the major step back in outfit customization. I don't want to be a school child I want cool clothes.
Which is crazy because the music sounds empty itself (I'll elaborate later.)
Plus ngl the music itself was just... serviceable.
HHH-
okay I'm sorry I gotta shut up I'm actually getting more frustrated the more I look at it from this angle so let me stop. 🤦🏾♀️
Those crystal thingies for the terestalized Pokémon has some fire music
“You could walk into most of the buildings.”
Just like in real life! 😀
You can walk into random people’s homes and hotel rooms in Sword and Shield which I wouldn’t recommend irl 😂
@@penpaladin Just like in real life! 😁
I absolutely love almost every Galar pokemon
I personally like the campsite from Sw/Sh over the picnic from Sc/Vi; feels way more interactive and the sandwich eating animation in Sc/Vi is god awful
Personally i prefer sword and shield, the designs as you said are better both for the towns and the charachters too for me, I love the crystal part of scarlet and violet but the rest of the graphis is so bad, also, the music is great in sword and shield
PERFORMANCE.
Gen 2 was practically just dlc which is why it’s so barren. But in my heart Gen 8 will always be the worst, if you want reason RadicalSoda did a pretty good job covering literally everything.
I feel like there should have been more towns/cities in Scarlet/Voilet. There was too much barren spaces at times.
The only graphics ScVi does better than swsh is the Pokémon models themselves. Pretty much everything else looks significantly better in swsh
I think because of optimization and scope sw/sh end up having better graphics than s/v
I hate to say it, but I keep coming back to SwSh over other Pokemon games on Switch. It's mostly the character customization.
My biggest disappointment in SV was that the terrestrialization of the gym leaders ace was just the same type as the gym
I expected their tera type to be one that covered their weaknesses
I solo'd all but 1 gym with Fuecoco Crocalor and Skeledirge the entire game
I agree with your list. I also like that in SWSH your transferred Pokémon’s moves don’t get reset.
I know people who will fight tooth and nail to say that sw/sh had better graphics
Agreed. As a Mega evolution fan, I definitely prefer the Giga gimmick.
Dont forget our girl Marnie!
"Team Yell intensifies"
Dude the gen 8 music is such a bop I play it anytime I want to hype myself up.
sv is really good but swsh is a lot better
I think that the creation of scarlett and violet was just too rushed, sure I'm glad I have it now but I think that just a fee more months of development and it would've been on par or even better than sword and shield
You forgot about breeding Pokémon
ok the S/V gym music is a banger
Sw/Sh is way better than S/V in my eyes. Story was better, way less bugs, no risk of deleting your save from early event raids, etc.
story was better...?
Scarlet and violet royally fucked up tms. it kinda makes sense to use the scraps from the fauna slaughtered in paldea but it gets so annoying after you build a handful of competitive teams. The biggest offender of this is Nasty Plot needing spiritomb mats, a mon who doesnt naturally respawn
I think the places where the camera is locked looked really good in SwSh. Probably because you couldn’t get a close up of the trees.
I just don’t think GameFreak is ready for Open World games yet, but too late, you can’t go back now.
The main reason i like gen 8 is it was the first time since gen 5 i played so it felt kind of insane having the 3d models and such .
The gymmusic in scvi feels like an evolution of the gigantamax gym theme in swsh
Please do a series/video where you take yhe best/worst parts of every Pokémon game to create your ideal game or the worst version of it.
Sword and Shield gym music has so much hype
galar gym theme is so epic 10)10 way better than paldea
bro sw/sh is 100x better than Scarlet/violet the graphics in sw/sh are way better and it’s overall has better Pokémon in it.
So, i did a nuzlocke of sword and got a rookidee named ball, I fit the music to then always here “ball rolls on” and now it’s all that I hear
Gen 8 did clothes customization better as well as allowing you to shiny hunt the legendarys in the dens
Not going into houses in SV was an absolutely unhinged thing to leave out... they completely lost the plot
What Scarlet/Violet is missing is “ *PIIIII* “ and “ MEOW MEOW MEOW”
(Gigantimax Pikachu and meowth)
Here's a major one- performance. Not too many issues there.
Ironically ive been playing over Sword and I agree
Gen 8 music blows gen 9 out the water
Things i miss in Gen 9: Breaking and Entering/Home Invasion with the occasional side of Theft
I do really enjoy gen 8’s gym leader music but the ace themes has chants that gen 9 aces in comparison to gen 8’s
Gen 8 utilised chanting as a musical element and gen 9 perfected it
i kinda like the S/V music simply because it kinda sounds like the audience is singing a theme for the fight
Hottest take so far was saying Gen 9 is better than gen 8, not worth it. We are removing your license to cook.
