Performances are the way to go.. not randomly dropping music online hoping for the algorithm to work for you & get someone to actually click.. lock down your home town.. ge their support..then expand from there. Maybe 😭

100% Artist with good live shows can make mediocre music exciting. But when you get the perfect combo of great music and great live shows it makes those songs and artists mainstays for me. I saw Beauty School Dropout when they were opening for another artist and that skyrocketed them to me to where I ended up liking them MORE than the artist I came to see. I went to 2 more of their shows that year, 4 hours and 8 hours away and they became my top artist. That's the power of a good, charismatic, performance of good music.

My name is Timmy. I decided music was my destiny and I cannot go back on that. I am currently homeless, work, and am chasing a degree in music production. I am learning a lot. What I really need is a heart to heart with you man. music is in my DNA. I feel it, I create it inside myself. What I find holding me back is doubt. I have let the world weigh me down to a point that it is hard to get back on my music everyday because it feels like a burden. When I started this shit I was a kid. Nothing phased me man. I gotta get back. I know enough, I just start overthinking about how I need to get back how I was before I fell off the wagon. Anyways man, I tend to overwhelm and overthink myself. I subscribed and followed. I really like your authenticity man. I am going to promise myself no matter what happens in these streets, I will have AT LEAST, a couple bars to show you man. 10 days. 8 days from when I found your channel my friend. Thank. you. THANK YOU. There is no turning back. I will either live by my music, or die by it. how about both. Music is my heart.
ALL I WANT TO DO is be an outlet for the people, to express themselves through me and music. I want to be there for the children of the world; as others (musicians) were there for me. I was alone my whole childhood. I now am alone again. My mother was diagnosed with cancer while I was in her stomach. She refused to abort me. She died 2.5 years into my life. I have memories of her. She literally gave up her life for mine. She was willing to risk that on me. She is gone. I have no family. It's just me, and the world. Music kinda took over as my parental unit growing up. Letting my music grow as big as possible until I die is a must. My life falls apart if I do not stay on top of this shit. Music is air to me. At the end of the day, I probably wont win this draw, and what is gonna push me over into ZEN would be myself. Either way ALL LOVE AND SUPPORT TO YOU @MelodyMathlete.

Thank you for trusting me with your story. I can't even imagine how hard life must have been over the years and still must be, especially when you are alone.
And your story about your mum... bro. I don't even know what to say. I'm sitting here, trying to put myself in your shoes... Sending you love, Timmy.
Let's connect for sure. I'll be in touch.

Thank you again for a concise and CLEAR video JP - after years of regarding songwriting as a mystical art, having it analyised and 'quantified' actually really helps decomplexify it and break down the emotional barrier.
The 'WHAT' of my problem: I would love to improve at applying formulas such as those that you lay out in such a matter of fact (but entertaining) way, in order to help me take the old 'singing for myself in my bedroom' number further than the front door! Everything after needs work but songwriting is the first step in the journey!
The 'WHY': Songwriting is the only activity which allows me to fully express my response to my lived experiences and I want to share this with others - regardless of how big or small the scale- to see if just some of this can resonate with them in a meaningful way, perhaps as other artists have helped me through the good, the bad and the ugly!
Cheers and keep up the stellar work!

@@MelodyMathlete Before, when trying to produce, I would create ideas, loops. I didn't know how to turn them into something more. When attempting to turn them into something more, things become extremely repetitive; It sounds like the whole project is the same.
I want to make my projects reach a climax; However, my loops and ideas are already so full and doesn't seem like it COULD reach a climax. I also don't know how to transition out from the climax, such a high point in the song. And, how would I even make it sound.. unique to the song? Not just copy and paste of a loop.
Part of the problem is that it's something that can't really be fixed by other people because it is a personal issue. I would say a roadblock in creativity; I lack a vision for the project. And, after viewing some of your other videos, I think I have found a method for ideas, a method for vision that will work for me.
Another part of my problem is that most of FL stock samples and plugins do not provide the tools I need for the to produce a product that I envisioned. Plugins are a bit expensive for me.😅

Appreciate the quality content. So many "shortcut" type of videos out there. This one really got me thinking.
I was always shy growing up. Never imagined myself wanting to make music until fairly recently. Feels like a good way to say things to people that I would normally be afraid of saying. Problem is that I'm a bald man, 28 going on 29, and I have no idea how to present myself as a songwriter to others.
I have a variety of music genres that i love listening to, but figuring out how to combine genres is the biggest hurdle to me. I want to create pop inspired music with electric blues and hip hop elements. I topline melodies constantly, but have trouble finding memorable lyrics to go with the notes. Always loved Taylor Swift's "Blank Space" such a fun little lyrical pun.
If I did receive 1on1 time, lyric writing would be the focus, as im relatively new to it. Maybe a little bit of advice on marketing and production as well.

    Very interesting!
I just want to add for those who are starting out: if you don’t have a vision right now and you’re not sure what it is, don’t get stuck on that! Continue to work, continue to write. Many of the greatest didn’t have a clear vision when they started, but by doing the work, they eventually found what drives them. From there, they were able to extrapolate and define a vision with a plan they stuck to!
    But again, great advice.

For a new artist I might think that the obvious first mission is to build an audience for your art… which I think should take advantage of organic viral content to reaching people right, but does that go against your thumbnail “don’t go viral”? Thanks again really interested in how you’d go about thinking about this

      Great question!
Building an audience and building a connection with them sounds like a great place to start as your mission, and using organic marketing also sounds like a great place to start!
The idea behind "don't go viral" is that your goal shouldn't be to go viral - sure, it would help in the short term, but showing up consistently is what is going to build a deeper connection with your fans. Does that make sense?

I am 48 just done 7 years at music school... sold my home to heal myself (late diagnosis of ND super powers) part of the body balancing solution for me was music school. I now want to release music and have created a free time improvised song album. Not sure how to market that on TikTok. I get on way better with 22-35 year olds as they see what i have done ad inspirational. I also balanced myself using frequencies and food to enhance my super powers (i used to be house bound now i can jump on public transport). I would like to spread the message of healing , hope and following dreams. I keep writing content plans and marketing plans but they don't quite click.
This is the best video i have seen so far on fandom and i watch hundreds.
