I love that you can see the exact moment that Ludinus lost Ashton. "Not all of us walked away from that." Doesn't matter how right you are about the Gods, because you've hurt us personally and taken people we cared about.
I kept wanting this question to come up "so if the god's power is dependent on us, worship and devotion, then is he saying that the Betrayers who want to destroy us all, are the ones trying to let go of their power?"
I love how Ludinus is just utterly irritated and fed up having to deal with BH _again_... 'Why do I have deal with these idiots yet again? Just leave me alone...'

Its really cool, we all know liam is an amazing roleplayer and given its his home aswell it just was amazing to see the trust and dedication to the game
I do love this - but I would encourage everyone to make this the norm. When you get to part of your player's backstory, let them flesh out the details - it makes for great roleplay opportunities and invests your players more in your world
The moment Matt implied a Teleport Circle I looked to Liam. It is not often that a DM will allow a player to set the stage, but for this group, should we, the audience, expect anything less?
After this episode I am thoroughly convinced of one thing: Braius does not actually know anything at all about Asmodeus or the betrayer gods. He is a fanboy and a poser claiming to be a herald because he thinks it’s cool and edgy. That’s why he also has levels as a tragedy bard: He’s an emo kid who never grew out of it.
I feel like Braius picked his entire personality after reading a pamphlet, and any glance he gets at the deeper nature of Asmodeus, head cheerleader for team all mortals suck is immediately filtered through the simplistic rhetoric of 'Devoting to the Lord of the Hells For Fun and Profit.' Also, for clarity, that that is an active and informed player choice to throw a little spice into exactly this kind of discussion.
Given Asmodeus' outright contempt for mortals, as portrayed in Calamity and Downfall, I have to think that the god would consider anyone who actively worshipped him to be at best a pawn and at worst an idiotic pawn. Braius is probably somewhere on that spectrum.
Just adding some time stamps here for people looking for Dorian and Orym moments: 2:24:21 Dorian's turn, where he runs to Orym to heal him 3:00:53 Orym's failed death save and Dorian's turn after that. @@ZisisKoukoumakis I think it was part of it. I highly, highly doubt Sam did it without asking him about it. They were acting. Besides he was laughing and recovered extreme quick from it. Another reason I think it was just him acting. You got to remember they are all actors. You also have to realize he was getting into the mind frame of Ludinus.
When Ludinus said “I wish you knew what I knew” at the 53 minute mark, which was a non-answer to Chetney’s answer, it reflected what the gods said to Cassida. More or less, like the gods, he thinks they’re incapable of understanding what he knows. Whereas, I remember that the reason why the gods didn’t want to answer Cassida’s hard questions could’ve been answered easily. Like the gods, Ludinus felt that answering the question would paint them in a bad light and lose the argument. They’d rather destroy than accept that they were wrong.
Yeah its a way to deflect and belittle the one asking the question but atleast for the gods you would not really believe if they said "We came using a ship of light and we are all family so we would appreciate if you dont kill them, also some of us were devoured and we are deeply traumatized about it." it would be more insane than anything luda couldve said
@Vael7 "Oh, child, do you realize what you ask? For all the Betrayers' crimes, they are still our kin. I could no more turn the Malleus on my brothers and sisters than you could take a knife to dear Hallis. And once the weapon is used, it will be an inevitability that it will be used again. I am sorry, but it must be destroyed utterly, before its promise can be realized."
Not sure why you take it as him belittling in that response. Is it possible your perceived image of him as the bad guy makes you suspect everything he replies with? I took that response as it would take a portion of time to explain in details, and combine that with how the group was being a bunch of pricks towards him, demanding information when not outright mocking him...I mean, would make sense you'd be reserved to go into further details when there is no intent on the other party to return the favor of knowledge being demanded. The Gods with Cassida was much more direct. They outright made it clear they didn't care about her, or her thoughts of the situation, and only care if she was of use to them [bar EverLight] --- and that sounds alot more like how Bells Hells was treating Ludinus .
@@grumdiddlydoo3559it is a very common way to belittle and discard the arguments your opponent uses. And saying that. Yo these gods are an invasive species so let's bring their natural predator over, too, to deal with them. That ALWAYS works as intended with no drastic effects to the native ecology. 😂
That's one of the big things I keep coming back to. Ludinus isn't just talking about dethroning a bunch of corrupt Kings and Queens he's talking about altering the very structure of the entire world. He has no idea what will happen if all the gods are eliminated (a lot of magic users draw power from faith and gods) and no idea what Predathos will do once he's feasted on the Gods.

This had more to do with the fact that this is Dorian's second encounter with Delilah and has no actual knowledge of anything she is capable of. He was the ignorantly safer choice than the others.
Travis is a very calculated dude, though trust/RP is certainly part of that. For one he probably considered Dorian isn't a melee combatant so he could keep his distance.
Those two statements aren't actually in conflict. We've established pretty thoroughly that there's no fundamental difference between a god and a mortal. Just a difference in potency, and with it the difference in callousness that comes with it. Those who do not know weakness or struggle lose sight of what it means to be weak or needy. That's a very, VERY human thing indeed. Both sides of it. Mortals are more perfect than the gods simply because they lack the power of the gods.
Ludinus is such a great villain. He’s trying to use all this self righteous reasoning of why the gods should die, when he really just wants revenge. Like predathos, revenge is a hungry void that destroys everything in its way, no matter how much ludinus insists it’s only going to kill the gods, he’s already proven himself wrong. In the pursuit of revenge he’s consumed countless fey. He decimated Mylasmier, the Savalier wood, and all the lives ludanis has destroyed before & since. Ludinus’s action probably have had the farthest reaching consequences of any villain in this world, affecting the characters and events going all the way back to campaign 1 when you think about it. That was really long winded but I just wanted to gush about how well realized of a villain Ludinus is.
@@miss.dudeman377 YES! I am surprised that no one in Bells Hells have used the word "revenge" yet, because that is exactly what Ludy is all about. His actions are not saving anyone. The prologue that Mercer and Mulligan came up with for Downfall was very interesting. I believe the garden of possibilities is where the beacons came from, they are the left over bits of Tengar that got pulled through when the Gods crashed through onto Exandria.
Oh interesting. That’s definitely different from what the Kryn Dynasty teaches about the Luxon, but interesting given the focus on possibilities in that prologue!. Great food for thought!
Many episodes ago, Marisha said “I never thought I’d miss Craven Edge so much.” (Context: chetney still had Graz’tchar- the luminary blade). It seems Matt was waiting to pull that trick out.
I think it's interesting that the members of Bells Hells are wondering what does Predathos eat after he's eaten all of the gods. Hunger doesn't just go away after only one dinner.
@@LeatherRebel75 Indeed. And to me whenever Ludinus just skates by any question about that with a chiding “Well that just wouldn’t happen,” just reaffirms to me that Ludinus is exactly like the deists he criticizes so fiercely. His words are slightly different but he’s still asking people to trust in his vision on faith and whenever someone pokes holes in it he goes “You just don’t understand.” Honestly makes him a huge hypocrite IMO. He’s true believer, just one who literally believes his god will eat the other gods
I think about it like this, Predathos is a wolf. The gods are sheep, being hunted by this wolf. Mortals are ants, uninteresting to the wolf. Predathos might just go find some other sheep to hunt as long as the ants don't start crawling all over it and biting or something. Not saying that's it for sure, but that sounds like the argument Ludinus is trying to mak.
@@gageodell5238 The question though is are mortals actually ants or are we field mice? Because an wolf ignore ants, but it will gladly goble up every single field mouse it finds
@@hfar_in_the_sky Or, say we are ants. When an animal gets desperate enough, it'll eat anything. Rocks, bark, dirt. Why do we think it won't get desperate enough to eat the ants? And why do we think it'll just... move on, after the gods are gone? It followed the gods to Exandria. What will lead it away to feed somewhere else? And say it does! It eats the gods and moves on, just like it said. If Melora isn't there, what guarantee do we have that nature will survive? Nature was preserved by the primordials, first, and they're gone, and now Melora basically is nature. The way I think of it is, at least with the gods, they locked themselves behind the Gate. @@EloyBushida And yet if given a choice, most of the Primes would have chosen to save Aeor. The nature of their timetable being moved up and the spread of the knowledge of the god killer is what ultimately tipped their hand. Put this way; if you could go back and time and make it so the atom bomb was never invented and never would be invented, would you do it? Even if it meant wiping out New York City? We have come dangerously close to exterminating ourselves with those weapons and we already vaporized two cities and millions of civilians with them. But you would still have to destroy a major city to do it. Thus it is not so clear cut. The Primes at least realized the full gravity of what they did, and while it was not “the” right answer, it wasn’t “the” wrong answer either. And then the Primes took responsibility for their actions by admitting they needed to leave the Mortal Plane. They listened to mortals and saw what the wars of gods wraught, and they willlingly removed themselves. Ludinus' arguments without the fancy wording and manipulation: -The gods should die because they never personally apologized to me for the Calamity. -Instead of allowing people the choice to follow gods, I have decided that no one gets to. -Destroying cities is bad when gods do it, but totally fine when I do it for research purposes.
Ha! Nice. I’m also disappointed that no one countered him by talking about the Divine Gate. The Primes solved the problem of themselves by locking themselves and the Betrayer Gods away from affecting Exandria directly. I would have been all for Imogen (because I like her snarkiness) suggesting the Divine Gate as a solution to Ludy, then pointing out, “Oh, wait, the gods already did that!”
I kinda liked the line from Dorian "What makes god a god besides power" the gods definitely didn't seem mature enough to hold that kind of power in this universe at least and I like the party being divided on this since most of them don't even have ties to any gods.
The thing with the divine gate is that their influence still seeps out of it, that's how worshippers get divine magic and stuff. Ludinus is an extremist that does not want ANY of their influence. He may have a point in some parts, but his "means justify the ends" that is bad. It was the gods who shaped Exandria into a place where all the species and their societies could thrive. And I really wonder that happens if you kill a god. If there is no other god to take on their divine domain, will that domain than fall apart? Will it be like, sure you can kill the Wildmother, but all of her gifts as going with her. No more plants, or animals or nature. Sure you can kill the Lawbearer, but don’t expect the laws of physics to still be the same after that. @@eazyemman thinking that what the gods did was wrong would not undo the opinion that Ludinus is also wrong and should be stopped, though. Plus gods tried to prevent themselves being killed, Ludinus is killing fellow humanoids to... make a world order that he thinks will be better for humanoids. That's even more hypocritical in my opinion. Not only is he deciding for all people on Exandria what they'd like, he's also taking so many lives alongside it, and feels completely justified because they stood in his way. He's killing fey, killed a whole elf civilisation because he wanted to experiment (hello, Aeor level tragedy?) killing humanoids right and left and center, and is claiming to be a saviour to humanity. We could also argue how much of Cerberus's Assembly is guided by him and, if he cares about his fellow mortals so much, why did he turn a blind eye on all the atrocities within? (it's because it would further his goal, that's why...)
Ludinus's hubris and hypocrisy aside, here's something I don't understand: if it's true that the gods "feed" on mortals adoration, how comes the Everlight, that had most of her flowers wiped out, receive as much power as the other gods when they regained their full divinity by the end of Downfall? The amount of followers didn't seem to impact the Betrayers in any way either. Also, it's not true that all of them reached the conclusion that the city should be destroyed. At the very least the Everlight and the Downfather were very against it and even with their lives at stake they prioritized going to a hospital to heed a desperate need for help. I get the "failed beings don't deserve to have all that power" perspective, which one can agree or disagree on, but it's mixed with so many lies, half truths and incomplete information... It also isn't lost on me how the gods destroyed a (tyrannical but also full of innocents) city that was trying to destroy them, but Ludinus destroyed a whole city because a failed experiment and it suddenly becomes a sacrifice for the greater good 😂😂😂 And then he's sure the power of Predathos won't do any harm to Exandria. He should be called Deludinus at this point. Edited for clarity ^^
ok so I have a theory realted to this- I don't think the gods do feed on adoration. They predate humans and existed without their adoration before their creation. BH and Ludinus didn't see the prologue bit where the gods came into existence nor did they see the "epilogue" where the gods have shed their mortal form (they confirmed this on 4sd) so I think this is just an assumption ludinus has made that hasn't been disproven yet. its kinda frustrating bc if ludinus was less narrow minded he probably would've realized this hundreds of years ago if he reflected on what happened during the calamity beyond what impacted him directly (he was a kid them so I don't blame him if he didn't realize it at the time but not reflecting on it now is just stupid). Also Deludinus is good, I'm stealing that lol
@@wiseathena97 Yeah, it's probably something along those lines, but since they see the gods fighting and using their powers in awe inducing ways... I guess that such an emotionally charged vision is not the one that makes you wonder about how worshipping actually works xD
@@wiseathena97 well there's this bit in downfall where Silaha/the Arch Heart "feeds" on the adoration of the aeormatons and mortals in the Ars Elysia - except the way it's described, it sounds more like they are bolstering the god (like some kind of inspiration or bonus that a party member could give you) rather than the god taking anything from them (and there is also them being more powerful in their temples) I guess it would be like saying a baby deserves to be put down because he feeds on his mother? like, until we're shown otherwise, the gods are doing as much damage when 'feeding" on mortal adoration. (now the damage that their cults have done... that's another issue entirely) maybe he thinks that way because when HE did it, with the harness, it actually killed his sources of energy.
To be fair, the whole mechanisms of gods getting their power from their followed was explored in C1, and probably (not 100% sure) confirmed by the gods themselves to limit the power of Vecna once ascended.

"The shark does not bother itself with the krill" Ludinus has had hundreds of years and knows so much yet he doesn't know basic shark facts? This is untrue, whale sharks do in fact eat krill since they are filter feeders, as are basking sharks. Some sharks will also eat anything, especially when hungry so sharks have been found eating rubbish thrown into the ocean (eg license plates). Basically, because they can, and because they are hungry, sharks can and often will eat more than just the largest creature they can find. Ludinus saying this is hardly a reassurance and does nothing but reinforce his ignorance, arrogance and lack of knowledge about sea life.
It’s exactly the same flawed logic Bill tried to use on Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill: Volume 2. “You’re not a honey bee…you’re a rogue killer bee.” Like, my guy, ‘killer bees’ aren’t a distinct species. They’re literally just another subspecies of honey bee that developed via hybridization between two or three different subspecies from different parts of the world. Whenever a villain tries to use animal logic to make themselves seem right, only to spout incorrect information, *that’s* when you know they’re bullshit. That’s when you school ‘em.
Owning Ludinus with shark facts and logic. But in his defense maybe whale sharks, basking sharks and the like, don't exist in Exandria. And it might make sense that their biosphere is largely diferent from ours since Exandria seams to be significantly smaller then earth, and also seams to have a slightly different climate.
@@TheGirtmode I am nitpicking for comedic effect. There are far more arguments to be made against Ludinus than just pointing out his lack of knowledge about marine life. I think its funny this guy planned a genocide but doesn't know anything about sharks, metaphor or not

Yes, that's out of left field. Gods "feed" on worship but it is more of symbiotic relationship, since divine magic exists. "Afterlife" in Exandria sucks though. I believe in C1 it was shown that gods store souls as objects (sand for Everlight, books for Knowing Mother), for currently unknown purpose.

@@DurandalsFate I assume that’s just a Sam decision, not a lack of knowledge. Look at how many nat 1’s he refused to Reroll as Nott. He knows, I imagine he just chooses to let the dice decide for him.
In my mind, Braius is part firbolg and a descendant of one of the Everlight's kids and being a follower of Asmodeus brings that sibling relationship between the gods full circle
That would be an interesting spin. But i think it would interesting if it was Caduceus and the Clay family. I think Serenrae wouldn't mind that her descendants are worshipping their auntie.
It's been over 800 years and firbolgs don't have horns or weird 3 fingered hands. Braius was Sam's attempt to do a "horny bard" joke without committing to the bull-head.
@@Scott-ql2kx minotaurs have horns so he'd be half firbolg at best but it's because of all the bovine face comments and the only other cowlike race I know of other than minotaurs is firbolgs. 3:49:16 That hit me where I live. A bunch of stuff was going wrong in the world, and I ended up homeless. Everyone was on hard times. It was Covid. And things didn't get much better in the years to come. I was homeless by 2023. Not much that could be done. Everybody was hurting. I wanted to be angry at my friends for not helping me more, but I also know that they helped me as much and as often as they could. Because they're good people, and we look out for each other. There was literally nothing more they could do for me. But what Orym said?? I think that's what I needed to hear. That's the frustration that I wrongly attributed to them. I wasn't angry at them, never was. That's why I couldn't be angry at them, even though I wanted to be. I was mad that we were all being failed by the system, and I was the one suffering the most.
Crossing my fingers hard enough to BREAK them, that Laudna will make it out of the coming battle okay. That at long last, she will stand triumphant over Delilah once and for all. That, in the end, she and Imogen won’t have to miss their little cottage, and the married life it’ll bring. Crossing my fingers…🤞🤞💜🖤
I mean, they found a solution for it in this episode. They will try to use the Soul Anchor that inprisioned Dominox to try and separate Delilah from Lautna
Honestly, I don't think Laudna's story should have a happy ending. Everything about this character screams glorious tragedy... and the more Laudna slips into darkness, the more interesting Imogen becomes (Imogen is a straighman type character - she needs somebody to play against to shine and Laudna gives that to her).
@@Vergilius78 That feels quite bleak if I'm being honest. If her whole character arc is rising above her abuser and managing to escape all the negativity and make something good out of it regardless of what she's been through, then the opposite would be a very dangerous message. That would kinda slightly imply that for some people, no matter what they do and what they try to be, there is no hope for a better life. That doesn't seem to be type of thing the CR Crew would like to put out there as a message, considering the vast amount of their content has themes around redemption, such as Essek, Caleb and Scanlan.
If Dorian had a copper piece for every time a close female friend of his became a spooky monster and tried to kill the party, he’d have 2 copper pieces. Which isn’t a lot but it’s sad that it’s happened twice
I still don't know what makes Ludy think that Predathos isn't manipulating him. For all we know, Ludinus is (unknowingly) Predathos' little puppet. (And I say unknowingly because Ludy seems to be the kind of person who is too proud to believe that someone could manipulate him.) like... Ludinus was someone who was suffering in loneliness, angry at the world and the gods who then "finds" a being who can help him?? bro lost the plot a long time ago, methinks.
Because (from his perspective) he's too smart to be deceived. And it's just very convenient that Predathos happens to (claim to) want exactly the same thing Ludy does.
Also, even assuming Ludinus is right about Predathos, what's to say that it won't be a Cassida situation? If there's anything he should have taken from Downfall, it's that.

Am I the only one who loves the trust Matt and the players have with each other? As soon as Essek teleports the party home he turns to Liam to ask what the home looks like, trusting in Liam's ideas of Caleb's home. Just like asking Taliesin what card Jester pulls at the grave in C2.
Its really cool, we all know liam is an amazing roleplayer and given its his home aswell it just was amazing to see the trust and dedication to the game
Also I love how Liam uses the word "not" to describe things. Because in many ways Nott was a big part of his upbringing.
Only thing I disagree with on the description was the blacklight joke. You know two wizards would Prestigitate any messes away.
I feel like Braius picked his entire personality after reading a pamphlet, and any glance he gets at the deeper nature of Asmodeus, head cheerleader for team all mortals suck is immediately filtered through the simplistic rhetoric of 'Devoting to the Lord of the Hells For Fun and Profit.'
Also, for clarity, that that is an active and informed player choice to throw a little spice into exactly this kind of discussion.
Given Asmodeus' outright contempt for mortals, as portrayed in Calamity and Downfall, I have to think that the god would consider anyone who actively worshipped him to be at best a pawn and at worst an idiotic pawn. Braius is probably somewhere on that spectrum.

Is it possible to have a creation that can do things better, but have the same amount of equity?

His words are slightly different but he’s still asking people to trust in his vision on faith and whenever someone pokes holes in it he goes “You just don’t understand.”
Honestly makes him a huge hypocrite IMO.
@@gageodell5238I mean, that literally was part of his argument, he just used different animals for the analogy 😂
If you break that gate down and sick an attack dog on them and let that dog run off into the dark, who knows what else you could be letting in afterward with no gate to protect you.

But yeah. Omar has fluff for brain.
Ludinus' arguments without the fancy wording and manipulation:
-The gods should die because they never personally apologized to me for the Calamity.
It's essentially the logic of invading a country in order to force democracy onto them.
It kinda doesn't work as it's inherently hypocritical.
Ludinus definitely has a point.
He could just make information viable for everyone and let the world choose, but he's being a tyrant masquerading as a liberator.

But he's also flirting with Fearne, and asked both Imogen *and* Laudna whether they were single. I think his character concept is "minotaur that likes to f**k".
With Delilah forcing Laudna into a secondary form, this makes her the 6th member of Bell's Hells with a secondary or awakened form. Orym is the only one without one so far, although we have seen him choose the darker path and forsake some of his hope.
Just wait until it's revealed that Orym was a dragon all along, ha.

To me, Ludinus is beyond reason since Molaesmyr. That he, who saw the Calamity , could look at the destruction of Molaesmyr and the corruption of the Savalirwood and not turn away from Pradathos immediately, tells me that he is even further gone than Vespin Cloris was.

@@ghomerhustthe world was a chaotic hell that only primordial elementals could live on. They forged the other realms to hold back the utter destructive chaos that was all the energy on the planet of exandria.
@@ghomerhust What is interesting to me about that Ludinus talks about the time before the gods and the eidolons, but he seems to forget that back than Exandria was really not a place for the current mortal life on Exandria to survive in.
@@aFoolsMartyr Yeeeeeep!
Its funny that you think the other way is okay when its literally the same forward and backwards
@@wiseathena97 well there's this bit in downfall where Silaha/the Arch Heart "feeds" on the adoration of the aeormatons and mortals in the Ars Elysia - except the way it's described, it sounds more like they are bolstering the god (like some kind of inspiration or bonus that a party member could give you) rather than the god taking anything from them (and there is also them being more powerful in their temples)
I guess it would be like saying a baby deserves to be put down because he feeds on his mother? like, until we're shown otherwise, the gods are doing as much damage when 'feeding" on mortal adoration. (now the damage that their cults have done... that's another issue entirely)
maybe he thinks that way because when HE did it, with the harness, it actually killed his sources of energy.
Deludinus is WILD 😂😂😂

We need Fjord to rock up with his nautical terms and sea knowledge just to tell him that.
It’s exactly the same flawed logic Bill tried to use on Beatrix Kiddo in Kill Bill: Volume 2.
“You’re not a honey bee…you’re a rogue killer bee.”
Like, my guy, ‘killer bees’ aren’t a distinct species.
How about people using metaphors?
