Probably not, the only reason Oberyn was able to was because A: he used a weapon with a ton of range, B: he was using multiple poisons (this is more clearly stated in the books, but the poisons were quickly slowing him down and dulling him. It almost seems like cheating but I don’t think there’s clear cut rules in trial by combat except that it is 1v1), C: he had unlimited spears and weaponry and D: Oberyn (again, more clearly highlighted in the book) was using mind games to frustrate the mountain and cause him to swing, miss and tire. Basically Oberyn needed every advantage possible and he still lost technically since the mountain only really died due to all the poison (not his wounds), Robert was a beast but he would stand 0 chance. The mountain was described as such a freak that people believed he was part giant. The books describe him as nearly 8 feet tall, able to wield a 6 foot sword one handed and hold an oakwood Shield with the other. He was described as so freakishly powerful he could cut men and their horse in half with a single strike (think Guts from berserk if you’ve seen it). Robert, although a beast, wouldn’t stand a chance, pretty much no man has proven they could without enormous advantages to tip the fight in their favor. Robert uses a damn war hammer for most of his fighting, assuming he could even land a blow on the mountain his armor makes him almost invincible. The only person who was able to stand toe to toe with him in sword battle has been his younger brother, because he’s described as being almost as freakishly big and strong as Gregor (part of the reason why it’s annoying the show had Brienne “beat” Sandor, because as much as I love Brienne, in no world would she be able to take him on (she basically fights with a little more technique than Sandor, she’s basically fighting a big and stronger version of herself but with less technique). They did the same thing with butchering her sword fight in the show with Jaime, where as the book Jaime is basically playing around with her in the fight and it ends in a draw with them both falling in the River. D&D seemed to do that to make her character more OP and for some dumb female empowerment crap. For context Brienne owns most dudes and even good knights (she basically beats loras the same way she does in the show) but Sandor completely destroys famed knights with his freakish strength and size. She would get beaten handedly sick with an infection or not). Long story short, you have it backwards. Prime Robert would still get straight decimated by the mountain. Sorry.
I think it'd be like Dan Dority vs Captain Joe Turner from that episode of Deadwood...two big brutes just having it out in the street, getting down and dirty when the strength began to fade...
Nah. Sure he could beat the Mountain who Rides, but decimate? Not at all. They're both the same sorta fighter, brutish. Oberyn was the polar opposite and gained advantage with his speed. Bobby B would have to out muscle Gregor. Which is easier said Then ever don3
He probably could take the mountain, I believe Ned in the books even said that robert was the fiercest warrior in the seven kingdoms in his prime, 6‘6“ of pure muscle. It would be close, but Robert is who I‘d put my money on
Def Robert, the mountain was just brute strength with absolutely no sword or melee skills. While Robert in his prime was a Stag on the battlefield, Robert was smaller than the mountain, but by no means was a small man at 6’6. Correction about the death of Rickard and Brandon Stark. Brandon was on his way to Riverrun to marry Catelyn Tully when he heard about Rhaegar 'kidnapping' Lyanna. He and his companions road to Kings Landing where he challenged Rhaegar to come out and die. It was after Aerys took him and his companions into custody that Rickard Stark came down from the North to rescue Brandon.

Dude, thank you, amazing video, Robert is my favorite character of g.o.t / they should make a movie just of his story, I hope season 8 they do a flash back of him killing the prince with his war hammer
I loved this video. It was incredibly well made. Robert was my favorite character from the moment I started reading the books and I was fascinated with his past. I loved how complex his character was especially with how he changed after becoming king. I was really upset when he died. RIP Bobby B.
But Cersei did give birth to Robert's son, their first and only one they had together. He died after being born though, she referred to him as her 'little black haired beauty'. She told Catelyn Stark this when Bran was in a coma after Jaime pushed him out the window. As much as a monster Cersei is, she loved her children and couldn't have lied about that
Well presented! Thanks for summing this up this way - it's good to have perspective on him as a pivotal character... I do feel incorporating Gendry (and how he fits into the story) into this would be helpful as well, and was a bit disappointed to see that connection missing here.

Robert Baratheon is very similar to King Henry VIII. Both handsome athletic men in their youth, both loved sports. Both were left loads of money by their predecessors which they spent. Both loved their women and both had a ruthless streak. Both became obese through excess and indulgence.
People talk about Lysa and Littlefinger's poisoning of Jon Arryn and then blaming it on the Lannisters as the kicking off point to everything that happens afterwards. I say it's Rhaegar and Lyanna's sneaking around without telling anyone, which led to Robert's Rebellion and the end of the Targaryen dynasty, that started everything.
That was great. Really helpful if you are just getting into the series and rather nostalgic for us who have spent the last ten years watching it. Thank you 👍
A good bio though one bit is wrong. Stannis fled to Dragonstone not out of anger for being passed over as Hand of the King by Robert but because he feared for this life after the assassination of Jon Arryn and knew war was coming as Robert's heirs were bastards born of incest and had no claim to the Throne .
Lyana was a fool and Rhaegar was only using her to fulfil a prophecy. He never actually loved her. Love or not, they caused tens of thousands of deaths and no talk of annulment is going to justify that.
Also, Lyanna's hypocrisy was disgusting. She whined about how Robert wouldn't commit to one bed, yet she fell for a married man who couldn't commit to one bed. I have no sympathy for neither Lyanna nor Rhaegar.
@Abu Troll al cockroachistan I don't think you understand the story. For the First Rheagar never kindnap her. They ran away and didn't tell anyone. Secound Rhaegar was in love and master Aemon can explain to you. (Aemon and Rhaegar sent letters to each other. Third Reaghar let a profecy go to his head and did not thing clery. Fourth he was forced to love a women and make children with her. And she could't handel to give birth to 3 Children. Fifth Lyanna didn't like Robert at all. And there is a theory about Lyanna being the knight, Rheagar was sendt to find. It's the Seven Kingdom fault that this happend, if they would alow true love this would never happend.

@ايجون تارجاريين Was that in the books because that's never shown or stated in the tv show?. Soo.. tf you talking about?😂
Well, says a lot about how "many" women conduct themselves.

Strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create hard times, hard times create strong men and on we go. This cycle can happen in a few generations or in just 1 man over his life span
This is a true statement.
Oromanowar not really
As much as I want the prequel series to go into Robert's rebellion, I can't imagine another actor playing him. Maybe if they got Mark Addy into a workout routine, lol.
A great actor, i knew him from his comedy films and sitcoms, but he was so good, he washed that previous picture and replaced it with robert baratheon's character
Gods what a stupid plan.
You did narrated this darn well man, Your voice bought life to the story! 👌
I really want gendry to don his armour by the end of season 8 and become the new Baratheon king
Dwarf in The flask ya, and he already kinda uses a war hammer
I dub thee sir gendry baratheon no longer a bastard
Oh my sweet summer child.....
In terms of the targaryan bloodline, since Jon/Aegon is now in the nights watch, Gendry is the last living Baratheon heir
@@onetwo57627 It was just a fun little fact, no need to bust a nut over it
I’ll be so pissed if they do a flashback of Robert vs rhaegar fight and they pull some bs like Robert fought dirty to win
Ross Weir indeed, Robert was suppose to be one of the finest fighters of all
time.. but i’ll think they’ll show the true power of Robert
I hope not. I wanna see robert beat the fuckin shit out of rhaegar like a true baratheon. Ours is the fury!!!
@@dinominate69 Robert can't take rejection well....
im not surprised if he did cheat during the fight against rhaegar.
@@willhuey4891 nope. Robert is far more superior as a warrior than rhaegar. Rhaegar can eat shit. Ours is the fury!
Could you do a video talking about the various faiths in Westeros and Essos (R'hllor, the Seven, Old Gods, ect.) Love the channels. Thanks for everything.
The night is dark and full of terrors.
Cercie was always a spiteful and vicious person. She never wanted robert as her husband just the crown.
she actually didn't dislike him at first , she even said she found him pretty handsome . Maybe not as an husband but as a lover .
Cersei actually did want him for a husband until he started whoring and not being husbandly
Cersei want Rhaegar & the crown, Robert want Lyanna & a bed ... True (& Sad) Love Story
@@stormbringer2840
Those are just her excuses. She slept with Jaime on the morning of the wedding and when a clearly inebriated and grieving Robert made a mistake that most women wouldn’t be happy about but would at least be able to understand with enough time, she decided to check out of the entire marriage. Robert tried to take her hunting and riding with him to fix the relationship but she had already decided she would rather cuck him and usurp his entire bloodline with the bastard progeny of her own twin. Does that not sound like psychosis? She is not even aware how fucking insane she is…
RIP Robert Baratheon great video! So excited for more GOT!❤️
Word
No Robert story is complete without battle of the bells
Honestly he’s ok in the show but I wish we got the backstory Because people don’t realize how much of a badass he was. Honestly in my top 5 favorites
I always wanted video on King Robert, Thank god I found u.

And I thought Jorah Mormont was friendzoned.
Not to mention Littlefinger ...
I don't think they were even friends to begin with
He was? Robert had 1000s of women that loved him. Just not Lyanna. Jorah was physically unattractive and had a handful.
My favourite house had the worst that hit them. Gendry is the only thing we Baratheons have left.
Like Septimius Severus shows pursuit of ultimate power is usually more appealing than actually getting it.
"I'm not trying to honor you. I'm trying to get you to run my kingdom while I eat, drink and whore my way to an early grave."
First king of the Baratheon dynasty, distant cousin to the Targaryens, Demon of the Trident, the Usurper, Whoremonger King... and father of many bastard children.
He was a distant cousin? Cool
@@ryanmaher4331 In the books, Robert Baratheon's grandmother was Princess Rhaelle Targaryen (King Aegon V's youngest child) and is the descendant of Orys Baratheon, bastard half-brother of Aegon the Conqueror himself. His own father Steffon Baratheon was the Mad King's first cousin.
My boy Robert had a glorious tragic life
Robert Baratheon - Strength Of A Thousand Men
Robert Rebellion is the prequel we needed.
This was so great. Thank you. I feel like I went to GOT college and graduated.
Robert will always be king. He's the only king I would follow.
GODS HE WAS STRONGGGGG!!!
Delighted to hear an Irish accent. First time listener well done.
Dude, thank you, amazing video, Robert is my favorite character of g.o.t / they should make a movie just of his story, I hope season 8 they do a flash back of him killing the prince with his war hammer
I’d love to see that myself! They could make a prequel on his life definitely! Thank you 😊
Please keep making these they’re so amazing to listen to.
Thanks Thronelore for this video. Bobby B is one of my favorite characters :)
Baratheon has always been a strong house and has produced children with house Targaryen 3 different times yet the black hair remains.
Please can you think about doing Tywin Lanister.
As much as a monster Cersei is, she loved her children and couldn't have lied about that
That's show lore
Well presented! Thanks for summing this up this way - it's good to have perspective on him as a pivotal character... I do feel incorporating Gendry (and how he fits into the story) into this would be helpful as well, and was a bit disappointed to see that connection missing here.
Naturally, the only choice for the next "The Life of" video is the king's true heir: Stannis.
I hate that daughter killing Bastard!
@@chykim1 the boltons would have done worse to her, he knew he would lose against the boltons and it was too late to turn back, everyone would freeze to death on the journey, he already had confirmation that the red lady's magic works so it was really his best option, he didnt have any other choice
Stannis The Mannis
@Chykim Sanders “It may be that we shall lose this battle...You will avenge my death, and seat my daughter on the Iron Throne, or die in the attempt.” (Stannis Baratheon, The Winds of Winter)
@Chykim Sanders Stannis and Shireen both happen to be alive and well in the novels, and Stannis still campaigns against Roose Bolton in the north.

Damn Robert looks way older than 35 in the show. Being a King will do that to you
Everyone is aged up a bit in the show so thats why as well. And life expectancy was shorter in medieval times.
I enjoy listening to this chap..always intresting!
I hated how Robert was ok with the Darns being killed like ok maybe their children cuz they are technically the king and queen but the mother I think is what went to far she could have been stripped of her title had her kids taken away and sent back to her family a broken woman and in that way she would have no claim to the throne and the darnish people couldn't seek vengince cuz in kingdoms the kids always are killed off when another king takes the thrown no matter what but she wasn't a queen she was a princes she had a no claim by blood just by marriage and after her husband's death that claim dies with him period but yea not cool at all how stupid lanisters did it and yet rob was ok with it I will always hate the mountain cuz of that right there
Tyrwin never told the Mountain to kill the mother, but he also never told him he couldn't kill her.
Loving watching your videos on this channel, getting me back into GoT in time for next season!!
Forgot to mention his highborn bastard Edric Storm!
This is a really good video on Robert makes me appreciate the character alot more thank you for this information ^___^
Robert Baratheon is very similar to King Henry VIII. Both handsome athletic men in their youth, both loved sports. Both were left loads of money by their predecessors which they spent. Both loved their women and both had a ruthless streak. Both became obese through excess and indulgence.
Hes based on edward the IV. Handsome warrior who fought a mad King and won the throne at a young age
I like Robert's character. I've always thought of him as past and present Robert also.
That was great. Really helpful if you are just getting into the series and rather nostalgic for us who have spent the last ten years watching it. Thank you 👍
King Robert is in my top 5 caracters in GoT
"That's why he's The Goat!... The Goat..!!!!!"
A good bio though one bit is wrong. Stannis fled to Dragonstone not out of anger for being passed over as Hand of the King by Robert but because he feared for this life after the assassination of Jon Arryn and knew war was coming as Robert's heirs were bastards born of incest and had no claim to the Throne
.
You my friend have earned a sub. Well done, good sir.
Robert was like the Captain Of The Football Team at middle age...forever trying to relive his glory days and basically unhappy...
...or Henry VIII, he's a bit like Henry VIII...
I'm loyal to house Baratheon anyone else 🧐
He fought for everything he ever wanted and got everything but what he wanted, a weight he forever carried
Great work! Please do Tywin next!!! I love the style of your vides man!!! 😉😉😉😉😉✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽

Oh what could have been if Robert, Stannis, and Renly liked each other and Renly wasn’t a Tyrell stooge.
With Stannis sense of duty, Roberts charisma and Renlys diplomacy they would have been so effective.
Your vids are so good. I fall sleep listening to your vids as they’re so interesting and soothing.
Robert wasn't in love with lyana. More so in love of the image he had of her.
Definitely agreed with this
@Abu Troll al cockroachistan I don't think you understand the story.
@@Captain-Axeman True love? His father was the King and he was his heir, should had taken down his mad father and claim the throne for himself and change those rules to see how the great houses reacted to that. There was no chance for him one way or the other Robert would had come after him.
She would like killed him.
@Abu Troll al cockroachistan wouldnt marry him either. Plus if she did, she be either exicuted, not likely, castle arrest in Winterfell, or be the first woman sent to the wall.

Robert's life resembles the life and times of King Henry VIII of England(House of Tudor).
I'm loving your videos and really appreciate your in-depth explanations and how you put everything together. And I agree with most of what you've analyzed and what I disagree with still makes sense in its own way.
