I don't have the solutions you've used, but just plain water and succulent potting mix (Fert-Lome brand). I'm going to use the opportunity to propagate! I have the petals on top of the soil of another plant, a Traveler's Palm that I got from Urban Tropicals out of Hampton, FL. A couple of the petals have not only rooted, but have actually started the embryonic stages of another plant in their usual pattern of growth. I have them in direct morning sun only on my east facing patio. When I feel like they're ready, I'm actually planting them in their own soil in plastic containers with holes in the bottom that I've fashioned out of water cups (I am creative, aren't I?). I also have an overgrown and fractured and fragmented Graptopetalum (not sure of the species) that was given to me by a co-worker who just didn't know what to do with it. Everything always works for you. I have cuttings that won't grow roots. I have tried clonex it does nothing but take my money. I have a problem I hope you might answer. Why? would a succulent plant just start to go soft. No bugs soil is purlight and cactus mix.>
Depends on variety, humidity, position, watering, soil and other unknown factors. Some can also be due to the strain of the plant and some cutting are cut too young or too close to the tip with no nodes. Nodes or hard tissue is where the roots will grow from. No enough watering can also make them go soft.

Leave them on the surface without soil to dry up. You can use hairdryer to hasten the process. After a week, plant in dry soil. Then soak the pot halfway to encourage roots to form and go down. Good luck.

Like it's cutten or never had it. Any way can i do the same and make it have longer roots? When should i repot it? How to do it right meanwhile transfering to soil?
If there's no roots and freshly cut, I usually put it on top of soil with some rocks on top to separate the wet soil from the plant. Put toothpick around to hold it in place and wait. After 4 weeks, it should grow some roots. Good luck!

After being out of water for two weeks, they will definitely need a drink. What I would do in this case is to just pot them up in a moist soil(not wet) and put them in an area with bright light but no direct sunlight. After a week, give them a good soaking, drain and put away back to where they were and slowly acclimate them to be out in the sun. Best way to acclimate them is to put them in an area with 50% UV shade cloth. Good luck with the move. 🥰

Do these beautiful succulents root when the sky is overcast? This video actually busts alot of myths of Succulent rooting methods that most of us refrain from scared we might kill the poor succulent. Thank you! Liz and Salamat.
They don't rot because it's overcast... For a lot of succulents, continued overcast days contain a lot more moisture in the air(high humidity), therefore they don't need watering, unless the plants really needs it. They prefer to be watered at night during their growing period.
Sorry Liz if I wasn't to specific Liz I was wondering if Succulent would put out roots if beheaded and placed in a fairly bright but overcast/☁️ environment and in some dry corner. I would like to thank you for your time and all your efforts in making such lovely informative videos.
@@daym8 Definitely. I find they actually root slower in an open sunny position(direct sun) and much faster if placed in a brightly lit(artificial light) area, even indoors.
Thanks for video, i thought E. Romeo & E. Taurus are the same 🤦♀️. I recently got them 2wks ago from nursery and it didn't have any label, so I went searching and labelled it as E. Romeo/Taurus. Thus now...I need to double which is which. In addition this video is such a good example to try how to grow roots faster. Question: that dark/black bottom of soaked echeveria is that not rotting? 🤷🏻♀️ just curious here. Thank you once again. 💚
Not all succulents will grow from leaves and a lot of them can take months to sometimes germinate. It also depends on how old the leaves are. Some beheaded succulents if cut too young will also not grow roots.
Hi please can you advise me on lighting , we are coming into autumn / winter in England and time to put plants in doors what sort of lighting do you use ,your plants always look so healthy thank you Teresa x

Thank you for such experiment i found your channel since i started to caring about succulents . I have a question about Haworthia Limipholia. Can i do this to that species? Pls can you answer me 🙏 And also i cant have that special thing , it is just me and the water that he has right now 😅
In time, Haworthia limifolia grows quite easily and produce pups naturally. You can also propagate via cuttings but will take a long time(months) to root. No need to use seaweed but it will take longer.

Liz, when you take the plant out of soil soak and roots have formed, would you let roots dry off some before planting into succulent soil or ok to plant straight away? Thanks Liz❤
I would take some moist soil and lay it on top of that. Place it in a bright area (no direct sunlight) and wait for the pups to grow. Once the soil dries up, water it as if it's a normal plant. Just bear in mind that not all rooted leaf will grow pups. Just a matter of wait and see. Good luck!
I’m curious why we can’t leave plants in water? I have monsteras, avocados, string of pearls & other strings.. a jade plant. They all look so beautiful! Been about 4 mo & keep meaning to plant them 😂
id love to try water prop but im frightened of root rot! how is it that it doesnt rot? Also, have you done this method with leaf prop? Love your vids!!
Hi ! I love the way you explain things! I have a few succulents, but many are quite small so I can't behead them and I have quite a few leaf cuttings instead. Would this technique work for that as well? Thank you!
I just realized how long agavoides to root up after beheading. Maybe this is the reason why i cant grow agavoides well. Nursery told me that agavoides dont like watering too much. I realize agavoides behave differently frim each other even if they are of same ID.
If cuttings are taken on the wrong season, they sometimes take six months to root. Best way is to just put it on top of a pot with soil and check after a month. The plant will tell you when it needs watering.
Thanks for watching Leticia. You can make your own soil wetter. DIY AGAR AGAR soil wetter Dissolve agar in warm water (not hot) to dilute to consistency of runny custard or PVA glue. Take 1 cup of this dilution and add to 4 liters of water. Good luck and have fun.
Hi, Liz - thanks for your wonderfully entertaining tutelage on growing and propagating succulents. I am really new at this and have just recently subscribed, so I realize my questions so long after this post might not be seen. However, I am fascinated by your seawater emulsion for rooting new cuttings. I’m in NW Washington, USA, and am curious about sourcing that product. Is it the same as the fish oil fertilizer we use here on the other side of the world? I’ll keep watching with smiles and a warm heart even if you don’t see this. Hugs🤗

That's how it's meant to be. Method below. Dissolve agar in "warm" water (not hot) to dilute to consistency of runny custard or PVA glue/jelly. TAKE ONE CUP of this dilution(jelly) and add to "4 litres" of water (a watering can is ideal as it can block the sprayer). Good luck!
Hi Liz! Thank you for the amazing videos! 💖 Can i ask how long should you air dry newly chopped succulents before you soak them in water? I'm scared mine might rot if i soak them too early 😅. Thank you!
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Okay! So once they have small root bumps i can soak them for a week? And then repot them in dry soil and water after 2 weeks? Thank you!
@@carmsychuu Depends on the plant. When the roots comes out that you're happy with, you can repot them and water straightaway if the soil is dry. But if the soil is moist, you can let it dry up a bit then water.

Because the plants are well dehydrated, it can take in water without rotting. As long as the plant is not dormant, this can be done with any succulents that have been well air dried.
For the most part, they're all grown outside with no shelter. I have a large front garden area with no covering or protection at all and it's open to the element all year round. I'll try it after I get these ingredients ^^ and 1 more questions, if after we do water therapy n the roots are ready to pot. Do we pot it immediately or need to dry the roots b4 potting?
😑🤦♀️🤯Omg I wish I'd watched this video weeks ago. I'd put it off because I just got my first succulents and wasn't going to be propagating any time soon. Well my succulents showed up bare rooted and are getting so dehydrated and shriveled up. I've been going through hell trying to get my pots and medium components shipped for the last 2 weeks. All I have is organic worm casting for compost tea but it'll have to do. I'm not losing my new babies, especially my Echeveria Laui from Korea
Hey Liz, will this work with just water alone? Also, my agavoides have root stems but won't through out roots. Should I submerge the stems into the water or just let it hover over it?
How often should l water in the summer.? Hey Liz. Thanks for the many tips you have shared.l have become a very proud owner of quite a few beautiful plants of catcus and succulents. Thank you.
Lol I don't know what the heck has been wrong with my brain lately. I've been having such a difficult time rehydrating my succulents that have recently rerooted after doing head chops. I've been so confused like the past month I think just stressing myself out getting everything ready outside that my brain is just having one big fart LOL I have a couple of red crimson big echeveria thingies LOL that just aren't rooting up so I'm going to take them out of the soil today! 🥰
Hello I’m super new to this.. I read the bio but I don’t see the diy agar agar please help.
DIY AGAR AGAR soil wetter
Dissolve agar in warm water (not hot) to dilute to consistency of runny custard or PVA glue. Take 1 cup of this dilution and add to 4 liters of water. You can also add a capful of liquid kelp or seaweed to this solution.
Another wonderful vid!!! Thank u!!!
You are so welcome!
Thanks a lot Liz you really take a lot of care to reply also am grateful for sharing your tips which helps immensely.
Really appreciated 👍💮
hi mama lizk heheh
woahhh it has a nice color😍
Thanks for video, i thought E. Romeo & E. Taurus are the same 🤦♀️. I recently got them 2wks ago from nursery and it didn't have any label, so I went searching and labelled it as E. Romeo/Taurus. Thus now...I need to double which is which. In addition this video is such a good example to try how to grow roots faster. Question: that dark/black bottom of soaked echeveria is that not rotting? 🤷🏻♀️ just curious here. Thank you once again. 💚
No rotting in this video Jenny. Thanks for watching.
I am definitely going to try this to my romeo... can I use this method as well with my Aga ebony? Chanel? Thanks
Yes, absolutely on any plant cuttings.
By doing what u dud, I can't get them to root... nor can I even get leaves to root.....Help
Hi Teresa, I will be doing a new grow light video soon but for now... I only have one grow light that I've used so far and I'm quite happy with it. Below is a link to one of my grow light videos. You might also want to check out my "Grow Lights on Succulent" PLAYLIST. Also link below. Cheers

Okay thank you so much and keep doing what you’re doing.
how do you transplant these babies from water to soil. do you need to air dry them again before repotting?
The first video below will answer your question and video #2 is what they look like after 11 months. Cheers

Liz, when you take the plant out of soil soak and roots have formed, would you let roots dry off some before planting into succulent soil or ok to plant straight away?
Thanks Liz❤
I plant it straight away and I don't water till the soil dries up or the pot feels light. Then I give them a good soak till the soil is saturated.
Liz my succulent leaves have red roots they’re not in dirt what do I do now
I would take some moist soil and lay it on top of that. Place it in a bright area (no direct sunlight) and wait for the pups to grow. Once the soil dries up, water it as if it's a normal plant.
Just bear in mind that not all rooted leaf will grow pups. Just a matter of wait and see. Good luck!
Thank you liz
I’m curious why we can’t leave plants in water?
I have monsteras, avocados, string of pearls & other strings.. a jade plant. They all look so beautiful! Been about 4 mo & keep meaning to plant them 😂
Some of these succulents can survive a long time grown in water but eventually have to be planted in soil if they are to grow and propagate.
id love to try water prop but im frightened of root rot! how is it that it doesnt rot? Also, have you done this method with leaf prop? Love your vids!!
Because there is no soil
Yes I have tried water propagation. They're quick to grow roots but of course it depends on the plant variety or cultivar.

Boa tarde!! Sou portugesa adoro os seus vídeos! Gostava que me informasse mais acerca do Soil Wather. Onde posso adquiri ??
Boa sorte!
What are you putting in the water?
It's called Soil wetter made from seaweed. You can also use other LIQUID SEAWEED conditioner or fertilizer.
When u chop the top. Then u put it to dry & it callous & tiny roots come. Plz tell u us that during this process u keep them in shade or dark?
Bright light and no direct sunlight for the Taurus and the 2 Romeos are both under the grow light.
Hi ! I love the way you explain things! I have a few succulents, but many are quite small so I can't behead them and I have quite a few leaf cuttings instead. Would this technique work for that as well? Thank you!
The mother plant has to be big enough or else it won't grow.
Thank you so much for your video. Can I use Seasol? I live in Australia
Yes you can!
Thanks Liz. I see my mistakes now.
Here in Brazil is really difficult to found soil wetter w seaweed and it's expensive, can i use liquid fertilizer and water instead?
Thanks for watching Leticia. You can make your own soil wetter.

Any seaweed base, compost or worm castings will do.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thanks a lot! I am really watching you every day to learn more how to keep my baby succulents safe and happy ❣
Hugs🤗
This is seaweed base(kelp) but you can also use fish fertilizer, worm juice or any garden product with seaweed in it.
Hi Liz, do you have caretips for cotyledon orbiculata var oophylla?
No video yet but....they're very low maintenance plant and they don't like too much water. I exposed mine to full sun and they have experienced -11°C/12.2°F.
To dilute agar agar powder, is there a specific ratio or I can just follow the ratio on the packet?

Very informative 🙋♀️
I'm sorry, can't find the link for the agar-agar recipe soil wetter.. I've got a small pack of agar-agar, and if I add water, it becomes jelly..
Good luck!
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thanks a lot, from my succulents too😁

My pleasure.
Hi Liz! Thank you for the amazing videos! 💖 Can i ask how long should you air dry newly chopped succulents before you soak them in water? I'm scared mine might rot if i soak them too early 😅. Thank you!
I air dry them for at least a week or until small root bumps can be seen on the tip.
U have added seaweed extract in the water to boost roots .. what else
Nothing else.

How do you prevent root rot while keeping them in bowls of water?
Because the plants are well dehydrated, it can take in water without rotting. As long as the plant is not dormant, this can be done with any succulents that have been well air dried.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I see, thank you! How long have they been left dry for?
You said in this video that it was getting cold, like 4 degrees. Are your succulents in a shelter?
For the most part, they're all grown outside with no shelter. I have a large front garden area with no covering or protection at all and it's open to the element all year round.
To better understand my set-up, may I suggest watching these videos below. These videos are from my Liz Kreate channel. They first have to go through an acclimatization process and therefore necessitate for the different areas set-up below.

Plant into soil mix straight away and don't water until the pot feels light or the soil dries up a bit.
thanks so much!

Is plain water enough or do you have to add nutrients? Thank you, Liz. 😘
Water is enough but takes longer due to surface tension of the water. Using lukewarm water helps to hasten the process.
I added a few drops of hydrogen peroxide as well. It helps oxygenate the water. Gollum responded fast after that.
nice romeo
I wanted to throw away my shot glasses. But now I’ve found new purpose.
Wow!

Congrats and thank you.
Hey Liz, will this work with just water alone?
Also, my agavoides have root stems but won't through out roots. Should I submerge the stems into the water or just let it hover over it?
Also works with plain water and stem can be submerge.

Lol I don't know what the heck has been wrong with my brain lately. I've been having such a difficult time rehydrating my succulents that have recently rerooted after doing head chops. I know about this method I just don't understand why I didn't think to do it! I've been so confused like the past month I think just stressing myself out getting everything ready outside that my brain is just having one big fart LOL I have a couple of red crimson big echeveria thingies LOL that just aren't rooting up so I'm going to take them out of the soil today! I get too excited about what I'm planning to do the next day that I can't sleep. I compensate by eating food that I'm not suppose to eat so now I'm putting on weight and now I look forward to losing weight...so now I can't sleep again...LOL
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Liz I gained so much weight because of this pandemic that I was going to have bariatric surgery! Yes you read that correctly. By medical standards I am way way overweight by my standards and my doctors standards I really just need to lose 50 lb. But I honestly gained 102 lb over quarantine 😳
