Hi Liz, I have a question. Is a grow light a bad idea with cuttings? Ive been buying lots of cuttings, most do good but a few haven't. I've watched so many different videos saying not to water cuttings but my dirt gets so crispy dry I feel like I at least need to mist the dirt. I've got several under the grow light now. Is that a bad idea with cuttings? Any info will be appreciated, thanks!!
Grow light will make any succulents grow really fast. Cuttings with no roots can be planted into soil after being air dried for a few days. They can be left alone to grow roots w/o watering. Misting the top of succulents is the worst thing you can do because the leaves will absorb the moisture and will make it rot. Best for the plant to absorb through the roots and not the top of the plant. Videos link below hopefully explains this better. I rescued a Lola like succulent from a shop about three weeks ago. It was badly bruised, some leaves were half cut off and it was falling out of its little pot. It's now growing new leaves and the bottom leaves are firm thanks to your advice! I was trying to regrow some of the bottom leaves that I removed. One started forming little green roots or maybe little baby leaves, but my aunt accidentally broke the little "roots" off before I could plant it. What do I do now? Will they grow again? Help! 😭
Liz can you help me with the whole when to water or not water cuttings? I just harvested a bunch of babies off of the mother plant, stuck them in coco coir and am spraying them like I spray my leaf babies. Some are growing roots but some are not. Also when I behead one and stick it in the coco coir I've been doing the same thing, but after watching you stick yours into empty pots to wait for roots I'm assuming you give them no water until then. I feel like when I've tried that it takes MONTHS and months to see some roots and then the plant/rosette looks so dehydrated. Any advice? Thanks soul sista. 😉🥰
First thing you have to do is know the plants dormancy period. For example, AEONIUMS are summer dormant and ECHEVERIAS (depending on variety) are Winter dormant. It's best to take cuttings on their growing season and not while they're dormant as they can take a long time to root when they're asleep. I never water a succulent without roots. Please check out my other videos for more information.
Hey Liz!! I have been placing my props in coco coir and watering everyday. They were growing super fast until the mother leaf fell off. Now it seems they’re not growing at all. Any recommendations?
Give them some half strength liquid fertilizer every 2 weeks if you plant to leave them still in the coco peat. I use seaweed base called Powerfeed. You can also transplant them into the master succulent soil mix where they can grow independently without fertilizing every 2 weeks.
Thanks Liz, so inspiring for my babies and young plants i have begun with. They are so healthy and beautiful and hope mine may be also in 2 years time. Is sand better than a cuttings and propagation soil mix?
Hi Christine, The dry sand is just for growing roots. They'll be certain amount of moisture in the soil mix below the sand and the roots will be encourage to reach for it therefore growing roots faster. Once rooted, they'll be easily shaken off and transplanted into my chosen soil mix.

What do you mean when you said it was ....... and now it is ......... at the very end of the video?Do they have different names when they are baby and full grown?
The lady I bought the Echeveria Violescens compact form gave me that name for that plant. As it turned out, it's not the name or plant with that name because it's a Graptopetalum Purple Haze. Was a Violescens and is now a Purple Haze.
Was planning to do a separate video for it as it can be tricky. Mine grew fast and had 4 babies before winter (6 months)and then it got hit by the frost. I still have the leaf propagated babies now grown but not as big as mommy.
If they don't have roots and they are big enough(about an inch size), you can slowly pull off the plantlet and put on top of soil to encourage root growth.
