@anbr90 A carry on from the Battle of Waterloo. British Guardsmen, after the battle, took the hats off the dead and dying French Grenadiers/Guardsmen and wore them while chasing the rest of the routed French from the field.
@Earthlinked You do realise they're all fully trained combat ready frontline troops, most with at least one tour under their belt? @Earthlinked Its not a free pay cheque, you're misinformed. King George was having trouble paying his bills and had racked up debt. So after beating them Britain decided to pass on the title to its own troops and its a sign of respect to the French.
Well, said I agree side by side we should always stand. I don't see how this is bringing so many hostile and belittling comments for our traditions from Americans i think its a great show enjoyed around the world.
America has no bases in Canada! Why because Canadians are capable of defending our part of North America, and we are dam proud to do our part of ensuring Canadians and Americans backs are never knifed. We will always have each others backs.
@anbr90 I assume you are referring to the bearskins, and I believe they were used on the battlefield just to add an extra bit of height to the soldiers making them more imposing on the battlefield. Also the fact they are made of fur probably helped to keep the soldiers warm :)
If you are implying they are imbread your wrong for the most part. However, its not hundreds of years but goes back to 1000 years. As for the monarchy it has Dutch relatives, Norwegian and French and Spanish so in some sense they are but not as close as people try and make them out to be.
I shall remind you of this saying: "The American's bought the weapons, The Russian's paid with their lives, And the British bought for time" We were the first into the war and we suffered the most until the Russians were ready to enter the war. Let me put it into perspective: 911 was a terrible ordeal that took the lives of thousands. The British went through that ordeal nearly every day, but still we fought on. The Russians were the ones to take most of the pressure off of us, not the US.
The monarchy plays a constitutional role in the UK, and without it, we'd be saddled with a president - or worse. Before my family left for the America's in the 1600's they (my ancestors that is) lived in Scotland. I wish I knew more about them...but that aside, I love watching military marches, especially European ones. I'm in the US Army and most our "ceremonies" always seem so....cheap...and....I don't know..."wonky" for lack of a better word.
No, we have a constitution - part written, part unwritten. Nowhere is it carved in stone that a constitution must be wholly a written document. Our individual rights are guaranteed by our constitution, not by the monarch, although the constitutional function of the monarchy is to uphold and protect our rights, as the sovereign power of the state. I don't quite know what you're trying to say with: "... if the monarchy failed ..."
@sckryde lol. Magic powers would be epic. No, I just meant that, in theory, the queen still has some powers, and one is that she may conficsate property as she sees fit. It's only in theory though. In real life, she wouldn't be able to do it.
@Earthlinked The Queen-in-Parliament is the sovereign source of legal authority in the UK, and many government powers depend for their authority upon the direct action of the Royal Prerogative, albeit exercised by ministers of the Crown and not the Queen herself. Abolishing the monarchy would entail a total restructuring of the British constitution, and perhaps even having a written constitution, like America.
The Royal Canadian Armed Forces (Canadian Army) has basses in eight or nine states, and Royal Canadian Legion branches all over the US, the majority of them are in California and Florida. A man isn't truly free until he bows or grovels to no one or no system or no prince or king--a man is free when he has sent them all to hell--long live the name of Spartacus!!!
No, he did something worthy--he showed us we don't have to take shit from self proclaimed nobles and masters. We were not born to slaves to anyone or any system. LONG LIVE SPARTACUS!!!! AND MAY ALL HIERARCHY FALL!!!
Imagine a world where no man bows to any other. Where we the people can just be who they are without this nonsense of hierarchy hanging above us constantly--a caste system done away with forever. Imagine it because it can be so if only others stopped bowing to those who are self proclaimed princesses and emperors--this is a new age and with it a new world view--Long Live the name of Spartacus! And long live freedom!
You're not even British why do you care who we celebrate. I much prefer the Queen above our politicians she does serve the British people as she has done her entire life that's why she is respected as our non political head of state the embodiment of the nation that's why she is treated the way she is I don't think she is grater than me as a person but what she stands for is my country.
She also invites the PM to form a government in her name. I think they call that a democratic regent, or something alone those lines. She does bring some cash in though. We Americans could take a lesson from the Brits and honor our history with traditions. They do a much better job of that than we do.
But she doesn't oppress anyone she doesn't control the educational system. She doesn't rule she reigns and has a high approval rating she is the Queen she's cool. I'm free to think what I want and I support the Monarchy.

I know we also maintain a full naval base in New York, aside from that we control the DEW line, and have access to your nuclear facilities to better protect North America, Canada can actually launch your nukes without your approval in "a time national security."
The red coats are coming, the red coats are coming. Looking grand.
Good we're both happy then.
@BMassey1987 Those are the 'Red Arrows' of the ROYAL AIR FORCE concluding the day'scelebrations with the Traditional fly past. RULE BRITANNIA! ;)
If you love the pomp and circumstance - then England is your place to be!!!!!!!!
She also invites the PM to form a government in her name. I think they call that a democratic regent, or something alone those lines. She does bring some cash in though. We Americans could take a lesson from the Brits and honor our history with traditions. They do a much better job of that than we do.
This Spartacus did he play outside right for The Glasgow Rangers?
you have one big royal family of king and queen
