My favourite is sport variegated Silver Dragon, it's the only Alocasia I have which is truly thriving, within a year it filled the pot with lot of pups that all look so nice and healthy. It never got any pests, some fungal spots on some leaves that I treated / cut off.. But unlike all my other Alocasias, it never kills off older leaves, it never got root rot. Idk why, but it's the only one that's truly doing great in my care, and I love it for it.
This video came at the perfect time. All but one of my alocasias have started to slow down, rot, or droop. I know this happens when the seasons change but it’s been so hard to see them decline like this.
They seem finicky and I just bought like 7 types 😅 but I gotta say alocasia dragons breathe blew me away and it's my absolute favorite! They are all new additions, wish me luck.
I have only two. A very big zebrina in pon. It grew 7 very big leaves for me this summer. A little silver dragon also likes the pon. Thanks for your video !!
Hi! I love your collection! I have a Silver Dragon that lost all its roots to root rot and has 2 leaves left. I have it in perlite and water and am hoping it grows roots. I was able to save 2 corms and hope those grow! Any words of wisdom? Thank you, Roos!
Thank you ❤️ it's really hard to say - I have my rescue projects in semi hydro, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I do know my Alocasia are happier in higher humidity..
I'm currently switching all my alocasias to transparent pots, so I can hopefully have a better grasp of how the roots are doing... lots of alocasia root rot trauma here :DDD
if I might suggest a little bit, since you're going to use transparent pots. Try with with a totally draining media. One that you can water daily and not be soggy(this was you can never over water and you won't have to fear root rot). Basically soilless mix. And work up from there. I water my Alocasias daily. And they're not even in 100% draining mix. Just a slight bit lesser than 100%.
Hmm I don't want to have to water plants daily, I am more of a twice per month waterer 😅 so something like seramis is better for me as it holds water more than leca. What would you call a 100% draining mix?
@@plantwithroos Ah no no. I was answering SmV since he mentioned trauma. So basically to work upwards from a mix that can water daily, and then adjusting it to hold more moisture as you get used to keeping Alocasias alive and root rot free. And by 100% I meant that you can pour a waterfall on it but it will never hold or trap water at the top before draining metaphorically exaggerating. Like no soil, no cocopeat etc.
Watsoniana is my wishlist Alocasia. I've come across some baby plants but they seem to have shiny leaves verses the velvet. Are there 2 varieties or do they mature into velvet leaves?
yes there are two kinds! ive seen that too. the ones ive seen from indonesia are mostly shiny. the ones from europe, groen in huis etc, are velvet or will say if they're shiny.
If my Alocasia looked as good as yours I would be very happy lol. don’t think I have ever heard anyone speak of the Alocasia stingray, cant understand why because they are stunning, I have two large plants and grown from a corm, the larger ones need more light so am looking into something I can fix to my ceiling.
Well thank you haha! I remember people loving stingray back in 2019? I never liked them myself but I do show some in next weeks video (which is a plant shop tour 👌🏻)
I have 12 alocasias all in dirt. I'm so careful with their watering! If I feel I might have slightly over watered I use a paper towel. . I top water. I also wet their leaves no matter what the size of the plant. Every time I water. So far no spider mites. 🫰
Pronounce? Intersexual people might need this. The percentage of them is under 1% as far as I remember. All this pronounce thing is nonsense and ridiculous.
@@plantwithroos So you are intersexual and have (or had) biologically seen both genders? I mean this "in a normal" way. I mean I'm not trying to provoke anything (and English isn't my native language). I'm asking because otherwise - if you are not really intersexual - I will not understand you/your comment will make zero sense.
@@cani.j First of all it's a bit personal to ask if someone is intersex. Also there are many people who are not intersex but might look androgynous and are not the gender you assume. Plus there is more than the gender binary, non-binary people might not use he or she but they/them or something else instead. I am bisexual and find inclusion for my queer friends very important so I add my pronouns, to make people feel welcome to share theirs without judgement. If you want to learn more, do some research into trans people, non-binary people and see what you find there. I recommend @pinkmantaray on instagram, especially his post about pronouns - instagram.com/p/Cj5yFMlMwjK/ Good luck.
@@plantwithroos I did my research. I just misused the word "gender". I meant "sex", not gender. Sorry for that. So there are two sexes in nature: male and female. Or both. But that's not a third sex, it's just a combination of both. If you ask a biology professors, that's what he will tell you (unless he's not dumb and didn't deserve his degree). Me not dressing like I see the majority of women, doesn't turn me into "they" or non-binary. I don't use these lables. I am still female. With an androgynous touch maybe. (I don't really care). And it's ridiculous two ask someone you don't know "What's your pronounce?". Female and male humans look a certain way - almost always you can see it from their face if they are female or male. I'm not gonna ask "Are you a He or She?"!!! I will just use "she" or "he" by nature. Just like kids to. And I will not turn a singular person into plural. (There are people with a DID by the way, a Dissociative Personality Disorder (before called "Multiple Personality Disorder"). People with this condition can be called "they" as a single person (and that's the pronounce they use themselves as well (not all the time btw)). Nevertheless, using pronounce that are not matching with your sex are just stressing the fact that "society" makes genders: If someone is female, but wants to dress like a boy, she's free to do so. If she's pro freedom she will be like "I am female, I am a she and I dress like a boy. Because I want to do so and I have the right to do so". On the other hand if she's weak, she will be like "I want to be called , only then I will feel ok to do what I want." It's a like human being not wanting to go into the ocean, but asks other people to call him/she "fish" so that he or she then feels "validated" and dares to go into the water. I hope you get the point. I recomment the instagram account @gaysagainstgroomers Lovely greetings from Berlin, Germany (Also, I think it's a disregard towards real intersexual people. I heard of one online that "it" turned into a guy. And I can imagine very well that they would rather be either only female or only male, but not both at the same times as it must cause many issues in life.)
Beautiful collection! My favorite is the Dragon's Breath! Best care tip would be, a few hours(about 2) of direct sunlight(evening) would do great for them! Love your Azlanii. I've always wanted one but the only one I found was in sphagnum moss and I seriously, at that time, was so done with repotting from sphagnum 🤣 And I used to have a Tigrina. A very very rare Alocasia here. But I sold it off due to commitments at one point of time, which I hugely regret. 🥲
@@plantwithroos yeah that's why it even saddens me for letting it go when I see it in videos. Like I had it! Did tell the person who bought it(a super friendly guy) to sell a corm to me if he ever repotted it.
What is your favourite Alocasia? And what is your best care tip? ❤
My fav is the Dragon Scale. I like it better than the silver one. No tips just trying to keep them alive in the cold weather. 💚
@@sherryporsch9349 Yesss I love that one so much! I really hope mine comes back

I love alocasia's corms, i'm so happy when i get a new alocasia and find a buch of corms ready to grow at the base, love it 😍
Yesss they're like surprise bonus gifts 😍
I tend to ignore my alocacia when it comes to watering. I really let them dry out a good bit. I also use baby wipes to clean the leaves.

My best care tip is: if you struggle with alocasia that is growing in soil - move it to the semi hydro 🙂 it fixed all my problems with these plants 😉
