The angles for tv broadcast are made for dramatic effect but there's no concept of how fast they're going. It's one of the things that's ruining it for fans I think, they charge crazy prices for tickets so people watch from home which is also expensive and not very exciting
Same reason as movies, gotta be active, energetic, make what you're filming as exciting as you can for the audience. Then you watch top 10 car chases and they're all old films.
You can never truly appreciate the speed of F1 on a screen. You need to be there. The sheer violence of the car going round bends at such speed has to be seen in real life to be believed. Everyone thinks they would be able to drive an F1 car...they can't..they really can't.

It's perceptive compression, F1 camera angles use a long lens zooming in from further back so the speed difference is not very noticeable. Also when the cameras follow the cars (showing all of the sponsors' logo), you don't have the reference point to perceive the real speed of the car. The static, wide-angle cameras like in this video is much better in showing the real speed of these cars, but they don't show the logos very well.
I recently uploaded a video of an old F1 going slow on Anderstorp th-cam.com/video/KZPZ1KKGNWc/w-d-xo.html . The sound of that is amazing. Sure this sounds good aswell, but not comparable.

These cars are pretty loud when youre behind them looking straight into their exhaust, but thats about it. When they come towards you, you dont even hear them coming, its quite sad actually. Ive heard the V8 engines. They burst your ear everytime they pass. Now THATS incredible
Maurizio Arrivabene yeah your right i went to the british grand prix in 2019 and the engine sounds were incredible i sat at T2 and could see them a lil in maggots and beckets but when i sat at the exit of luffield it was amazing seen them power down the wellington straight down into brooklands really throwing the car and into luffield and the sound on exit was beautiful i loved every moment of it

The question that i asked myself when i first attended the montreal gp is :how can a human being control these cars ?? The speed ,the smell ,sparks,the sound (v10's) my level of respect for these gladiators went waaaayyy up . Ive been to the races 7 times since ,cant wait to go back .
This video is from qualifying and it was the quickest they went through there all weekend, it was amazing to watch, if you get the chance I highly recommend to view them from there.
I’ve been attending auto races since I was about 7, and have televised a few, so I’ve seen some great trackside views, but this is just otherworldly speed. The grip to take this ess at that speed defies belief as we don’t really see the downforce that makes it possible. In these corners they are probably experiencing a differential of 8 lateral Gs a second apart.
Peter Yianilos 4-5G in that corner, it is the peak G Force of the whole calendar in that corner. I think Lewis holds the record for highest g force in that corner
I've always loved this corner from as early as mid 90s. The perfect combination of high speed and negotiating a tight corner. Then the sound of acceleration as the car goes off into the distance.... It's soo exhilarating!!!!!
I've stood in that section of road in normal traffic conditions and it is pretty tight. And I have played with video while standing there, I cannot believe the speed of these F1 cars just unbelievable.

It’s amazing how fast they can go through corners. Normal cameras or ones like this give you a great understanding and sense of speed compared to the tv Broadcast. 🏎
This is the best filming of F1 cars I have ever seen. It does bring back memories of Silverstone in 2019, 2014 and 1992 when I went there. You don't see the speed on television but if you go to see it live I strongly encourage you to go on a fast corner like this because it will take your breath away. It made me laugh the first couple of times because it does look like 'wacky racers' cartoon cars. On the straights watching them do 200 mph is not that impressive.
The precision theyhave when hitting the apex and positioning the cars for cornering and in the same time to fight for fastest lap times or to fight for positions is what blows of my mind.
Mario Andretti said in an interview that you have to be as concentrated as when you thread a needle when racing in Formula One. You understand that when you watch this video! And The G-forces! You can allmost feel them!
This camera angles make me realize one thing on top of everything else: the incompetence of who does this for a living and broadcast their images on our TVs during races. The same thing happens in Moto GP.

I once had the privilege of standing less than 2 meters from an F1 car passing at over 250 kph (street circuit demo). There is no way te describe the ear-splitting noise and the air pressure as it passes. You can feel it in your chest.
The cornering speed of F1 cars is just incredible, imagine them trying to outrun a swat or police car. I doubt any type of police and swat cars would have a chance to catch these immensely fast cars ⚡️🏎️🚓

When you see it on TV, it’s easy to delude yourself and say “I could probably do that given some training”, then you see it from a static camera like this and it really shows how fucking insane these drivers are. This corner on autralia is one of the few you can almost go full speed of all the tracks. They just go 1 gear down from 7 to 6 and barely loose any speed. But still amazing!

F1 NEEDS to include more angles that display their true speed. As I cameraman I understand they need long lenses but a few wide angle lenses on the corners would be amazing to watch
It’s not as such the element of speed of f1 that’s impressive, it’s the downforce and mechanical grip of these cars around corners that is truly mind blowing. Most drivers hold in their breath around fast corners purely because of the amount of G forces they’re pulling.

I just checked, they hitted 6.5g (not differential) in turn 11 back in 2017
