  • The frustration of trying to gain access to abandoned railway trackbeds through thickets and landowners, means that an opportunity to gain free access can’t be missed. Who cares what the maps tell us, there has to be something there surely.
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.

Hi Ron. The sign that dog walkers are welcome was a great introduction to a fun chance to explore. If there was a prize for "fencepost spotter", I reckon you'd win. Of course you know the other problem with those round bales is that the cows complain when they don't get a square meal. I'm in the doghouse, as it were, for tearing around the garden and making the lawn into a mud patch. It's not my fault that it's been unseasonably mild this year and that someone makes me chase the ball, nonetheless I'm on a short leash for now. Thank you for virtually keeping me on a long one Ron. Have a great week! Sumac OVM

Well Done. Another enjoyable trek. A bit more "civilized" when compared to some of your other jungle outings. I particularly liked that light tram set up being used for an amusement ride at the start of your video. Those engines were a lot more sophisticated compared to your normal amusement park ride. They were definitely the real deal, only trimmed down in scale. Sad that they don't garner the same level of respect as the full scale jumbos.

Hello Ron. A nice little walk and at least you found something left in the headgerows . I did a walk along the old Ebury line Watford to Rickmansworth.a couple of weeks back. Not too much left. At one point though there is some split sleeper fencing almost intact . Not just the posts but the rails too. Must be quite rare I would have thought. made sure I got some pics. Pete

Good Morning, Ron. One of those occasions when finds are very thin on the ground, but sooner or later, a fence post pops up to save the day! A nice explore, with the river as a backdrop. Well worth the effort. Have you heard that the greenway from Cheltenham out towards the racecourse is being extended to Bishops Cleeve. I don’t know where the route will go from the racecourse, but obviously it won’t be along the railway line. Weather improving, cameras at the ready! Take care. Ron.

Hi Ron, when they make these walkways official they seem to remove everything first.
I haven't heard about the greenway, sounds good.
Don't get too excited about the weather Ron, still some winter to come I fear. Go steady. Ron

      @westcountrywanderings 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

That's good news. I wonder if the GWSR will ever open a station at Bishops Cleeve? The section that does need a Greenway is the bit from Pittville Park in Cheltenham to Cheltenham Racecourse and the GWSR Racecourse Station. The walk from the mainline station at Lansdown along the Honeybourne Line is OK, until after you get past Pittville Park - then you have the very busy Evesham Rd and a very (!) narrow pavement. Doesn't exactly encourage greenways! Hope all is well with you Ron, take care, Paul

Sorry, I am very late to the party again!
Been trying to get my monthly vlog out for tomorrow - being the last day of the month. Finally, it is uploading.
So, just catching up with your last video.
This was really interesting Ron. Quite an adventure, even though there wasn't a huge amount to see.
The railway at Evesham Vale there is very scenic and great value for money - does get busy at weekend though. I did hear recently that it was up for sale. It opened in 2002, same time as the adjacent shopping area, I think. Think it is because the owners wanted to retire. Not sure what the latest on that is.
    Thanks again,
    Take care,
    Paul

Good Morning Ron - greetings from Poland
A nice walk close to the river and a walk where finds are few and far between. As always, you manage to find some things of interest - a few fence posts and the base for a plate layers hut. The shots of the miniture railway at the beginning of this vlog were very enjoyable. I was wondering if that was Trevor doing his best to get himself into one of your videos by flying a model aircraft?
Greetings to all my fellow Parkinsons Walks Family Friends wherever you happen to be.

A nice green walk with some reminders of what must have been a very pleasant cross-country railway journey, with the Avon for company, at Evesham. Good to see that it appears to be a popular route with walkers - and their dogs. Thank you for rounding off this delightful series, exploring this former railway.

Mornin' Ron, Great start to this walk with the minature railway, I think they looked too large to be minature, maybe narrow gauge perhaps, where was this? Well it was the evesham vale light railway, Monty was my clue!!
You had me fooled at the start of the walk because the first thing I saw was a tree in blossom, so I guess this one was from last year perhaps. Its funny because I was going to mention that this week I spotted the first tree in full blossom and a few nearby just starting, it was in an isolated valley near where the aqueduct and its siphon are to be found, The French Canal. I won't mention it now then!!
According to google maps just nearby is the Defford Model Flying Club perhaps Trev flies out of there too?
The polytunnels are a common sight on the landscape down here in some areas notably in Almeria they cover the land completely.
I've never seem a bale of hay that has rolled out of the way like that before, I have come a cropper with tumbleweed before, enormous great balls bigger than a car if your travelling at night whens there is wind they can just shoot across in front and frighten the life out of you!!
A lovely bit of birdsong to accompany you on the walk. Have a great weekend!!

@@ParkinsonsWalks Hi Ron, I had a look our rosebushes and they are starting to bud, very little sign of trees going into blossom round here though, won't be long. Reports on the TV say they've started about two weeks early but it's not a good sign particularly if there is no rain, which seems likely.
Yes it's funny I don't seem to see too much interest in the things I go chasing but it's hard to say, I don't think there is anyone like Paul Whitewick or Martin Zero. I think in the UK there is wealth of people exploring these links to the past.
This afternoon I found an aqueduct which in its origins probably dates back to Roman times and then the Royal Reservoir which is basically a Weir to take water off to the Alhambra Palace and in between an abandoned mill and an old abandoned hacienda (country house or mansion). Didn't really see anyone else till evening when lots of people on mountain bikes appeared as I got back to my car. Maybe it's the time I go out, you know .... mad dogs and ......

Hello Ron. Quite an easy walk for a change. One fence post and a straining post, plus some unspecified concrete footings. When the line crossed the A46, I assume it went under the road, so there must have been a bridge at that point. You should carry a pair of secateurs. Very useful for cutting your way into that gatepost! Oh, and a pair of tough gardening gloves. Keep the walks going and keep healthy.
