  • A Cotswolds walking adventure, starting in Stanway, through Stanton and up on to the high Wolds. Whilst walking we are looking over our shoulder as a band of rain steals across the vale getting ever nearer. Will it or won’t it? Watch to find out.
Home to the adventurous subscriber. As well as films we have a bi-weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in.
My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.

We were pleased to be your first viewer today and what a beautiful walk it was even with the shower. I did enjoy the visit to the pump so I appreciate your willing to get wet. I think if you had my silvery hair and I had your pleasurable personality, we could both go places.

That was a most enjoyable walk of through some beautiful surroundings - and a prolongued rain 'shower', which was not enough to dampen your enthusiasm. The suspense of being chased up a steep incline by those menancing clouds was I suppose, preferable to being chased by a bull, but eating lunch standing-up in the pouring rain, is in my experience, enough to sap the will to live. Nonetheless, you made it up the hill and down again, keeping your socks dry and your spirits refreshed. Very well done - and thank you.

Hello Ron - greetings from a very warm sunny and dry Poland
What a lovely video, filmed in some quite difficult conditions. The "shower" (short period of rain), turned into a downpour. Still, did it dampen our enthusiasm? No way! A beautiful walk through some gorgeous countryside and very picturesque villages. The climb up the escarpment took my breath away, and I;m sitting down watching you do it!

Good morning Ron and thank you for today's excellent offering. I've stomped that area many times, particularly when walking the Cotswold Way, and I agree with you on the outstanding views and beauty of this part of the Cotswolds. As a Hiker, backpacker, wild camper etc, I have got used to the British weather and all that it brings over the years and just carry clothing and equipment to deal with the rain (sorry showers!) as necessary. It is not the most pleasant to walk in but neither is boiling hot temperatures with not a cloud in the sky and, with up to 15kg on my back I can easily loose the will to live! You are obviously of the same persuasion as me, that even if the forecast is for inclement weather then just still go for it anyway and equip accordingly. If we waited for good weather to go out in this country we'd be waiting forever! Anyway, at the end of the day, it is still lovely to see dramatic skies and experience yet another facet of our incredible planet.
Have a great week and best wishes to you, Pauline and the PW family. Regards Trev

Hi Trev, yes I am as the same persuasion as you, provided I am dressed for it, I actually like walking in the rain, usually means you get the place to yourself, and it feels like really experiencing the elements. Good walking. Ron

Good Morning, Ron. I probably won’t be sharing this one with the wife. Her company did this walk, for charity, one foggy November morning. Wood Stanway, Stanway, Stanton by road. Then across the escarpment to Broadway, up to Broadway Tower and across the top, before dropping down into Chipping Campden to finish. In the process she lost two toenails and ended up with a bad back. I was invited to take part, but hadn’t sufficiently recovered from my radiotherapy. I did film parts of it for the company, but she doesn’t work there anymore, so best not talk about it too much! The sun is out, the sky is blue……Happy Exploring. Ron.

If that was a shower, Ron, then you're lucky it didn't actually rain! Good that your boots, as well as being waterproof, had a good enough grip to prevent you from slipping over on that very muddy track. It could have been disastrous.

Good morning Ron, you can't blame me for the rain this time as I wasn't there! That sound on the leaves is very familiar to me though..... What a delightful village. I couldn't own one of the painted houses (as if I could afford any of them!) as I had one before and you spend your free time doing nothing but painting! I do remember my Dad painting all the windows and replacing putty I couldn't keep my fingers out of. When all we had was single glazing and wooden frames. I wonder if it's too late to apologise for filling his putty with my finger prints? Glad you mage it down the hill shiney side up rather than base over apex. Simon

Bravo Ron! Good on you for pushing through the rain and taking in the sights. The only times I recall "hiking" in the rain was back when I was a young man in the Armed Forces. And I think the appropriate word to describe each occurrence was "slogging". I don't think my mind was so much on taking in the wonderful sights, but on finding a dry area so I could change my socks.

Did you do that walk for the benefit of Mary? All she kept saying was "I used to cycle along there" and "I knew a chap who played cricket there". I can't say that walk was enjoyable for you, but we enjoyed thoroughly. That pump was interesting too. Thanks for sharing your efforts

@@ParkinsonsWalks Yes, it is always tricky filming in heavy downpours, but you stayed the course, which is admirable. Yes, waterproof cameras are very useful - I still don't have one though, hence why a lot of my videos are filmed on dry days (usually!!).

    Mornin’ Ron
What a great walk that was despite the conditions. In fact it made it very interesting seeing the curtain of rain following you and hearing the rainfall. You were well prepared by the looks of things. Well done for getting out there and not being put off by the forecast.
The walk through the park was excellent; those trees were just magnificent it just goes to show what they can grow to be given the space to do so. That drive will be amazing after we’ve all gone!!
I enjoyed seeing the pump pipework pulsating away in the bushes, I think it might be a Blakes Hydroram as Pete has already pointed out. I’ve only ever seen them in pictures and on their website great to see one in bush so to speak. There is a chap who goes out all over the country searching out these pieces of engineering, forgotten pumps is his name!!
So the big question is, did you have mustard in the ham roll?, we need to know!!
Mum is doing well, improving every day, hopefully she will be out of hospital soon.
Anyway, have a great weekend, all the best!!

Adam from forgotten pumps tells me that it will be a blakes and that it's a noisy one too. Normally to be found in a hut to keep them secure as they are expensive bits of kit. He said he's yet to find a live one, so all in all a great find!!

    Hi Ron
Our fellow Oldie took us on a walk, and when
was all said and done gave us an excellent talk.
He waxed lyrical in a Cotswolds setting but when
the heavens opened he got quite a wetting.
The weather was inclement, our hero prepared he
simply soldiered on without any impediment.
Our man as tough as his new boots and although his
feet might be smelly his foot wear was drier than any
    farmers whelly.
This gentleman of our generation energised
by a simple ham sandwich, gives us such inspiration.
King Charles please take note of our recommendation
and give this man a commendation.
Arise Sir Ron, arise Sir Knight, you deserve this award
as sure as me being as high as a kite.

Hi Ron. Well somebody had to say it, I'm sorry it had to be you, but you are indeed a magnificent specimen, well spotted. The path that could only be accessed with a "beware of the bull" sign would have put me off. Are you allowed to field a bull where there's a public footpath? Maybe no worse than "mind the gap" which has always made me think, "Didn't you just acknowledge there was a potentially dangerous gap?" Anyway, what a beautiful walk. Did you meet anyone coming from the opposite direction saying, "Thankfully, all downhill"? Thanks for a nice day out Ron, and it was indeed a wonderful stormy sky!

Ron, Back from my bi-annual sojourn in Dartmouth and I must say I enjoyed your trip around "The Stans". One of the two great houses there contains a vast collection of just about everything from toys to weaponry. I can't remember its name but it is well worth a visit. I was told that the thatched cricket pavilion at Stanway was provided by JM Barrie, who apparently was a frequent visitor, and player. In the Guild House at Stanton is a spinning wheel gifted by Gandhi on a visit.
50 years ago my house was served by an hydraulic pump, hence its current name "Pump Bottom Cottage"
