Tuesday morning, BFD C-Shift was dispatched to a reported residential structure fire. The caller was reporting their front porch on fire. While responding, heavy smoke was visible in the sky miles from the scene. Engine 612 reported the smoke conditions to dispatch and upgraded the call to a working structure fire. Automatic aid companies were dispatched to the scene which consists of the two closest departments to the scene.
Upon arrival, Truck 601 found a double wide mobile home with heavy fire and smoke conditions on the alpha side of the structure, chief 601 established Lee Road 377 command. Upon the arrival of Engine 612 & Tanker 614, an 1 3/4 inch handline was pulled from the front bumper. Water was on the fire in under a minute of arrival. Firefighters attempted to make entry and found that the roof had collapsed on the alpha side. The front door was blocked due to the collapse. Command completed the 360 and discovered there was no access to the interior on either side of the structure. While firefighting operations were in progress, the primary hose line was burned and busted. Firefighters pulled a second pre-connect to the alpha side and continued fire attack. Neither automatic aid company had acknowledged/responded to the call, command then requested the next two closest mutual aid departments to respond, and off-duty firefighters were called in to assist. Firefighters attempted to gain access through bedroom windows to the interior of the structure. While gaining access through the debris, water supply began to run low and Firefighter I (Helmet Cam) was assigned to began water shuttle operations per command. Shortly after water shuttle operations began, East Alabama Fire District and Smiths Station Fire Rescue arrived on scene and assisted with fire attack operations. There were no injuries reported on scene. The cause of the fire was determined to be an electrical malfunction with a heat lamp on the front porch.
Beulah Fire Department responded with five apparatus, seven personnel, and were on scene for approximately two and a half hours before returning to service. East Alabama Fire District, Smiths Station Fire Rescue, Lee County EMA, and Lee County Sheriffs Office also responded to the scene.
