Pontoon Boat Wrap and New Vinyl Graphics

  • Something I haven't done in a few years is wrapping a boat. A friend bought a used pontoon and it was a blank slate and wanted to add some color and new graphics. There were no graphics on the sides, all I had to do is remove the registration numbers and apply the Oracal Wrap film and custom cut Avery vinyl graphics. I created the graphics from scratch using Flexisign Pro based on the original Bentley design and cut them in house.
    I bought the wrap material from Metro Restyling and it arrived in a few days, start to finish the install took me about 9 hours including cutting and weeding the graphics.

      It did make a big difference and his wife picked the colors. Wrap is still looking great from what I'm told, I have not personally seen the boat since it left my place. Thanks for watching!

    I've wrapped some stuff in the past. Thinking about doing a deck boat i just purchased. A 5ft x 30ft roll should do it. I just havent figured out the best way to cut the whole roll in half.

      I unrolled the media and laid the whole 60" on the table, measured to find center and then cut it with a razor.

    What type of gloves are you using for this application?

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ORACAL Blue Wrap gloves. It helps apply the vinyl and prevents the oils from your hands and fingers from getting on the adhesive side of the vinyl while applying it.

    Would it be possible to add a wrap to a ribbed texture siding?

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, absolutely you can. BUT it will take a lot more time applying the vinyl to the ribs especially if there are screws. Remove as much as you can (screws included) to ease the install time, the flatter the better.

    If the metal has dents will a wrap hide them? Small like hail damage

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The material will not "hide" them but it will also depend on the color of the wrap. Generally lighter colors will hide a little better than darker colors. The material will confirm to whatever you apply it to, so if you have tiny dents they will show.

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank You!! Lighter colors the better! Keep it waxed up, Lucas Slick Mist is what I used to clean and make em' shine!. Water marks will also depend on what minerals are in the water.

    You did a great job. It looks real nice. Can you please tell me about how much the material cost? I am thinking about doing my pontoon which looks the same size as yours.

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! The major cost was the color shift material, between the two I think it was around $450 plus some everyday cleaning stuff. I bought my material from metrorestyling.com/ they have good prices and fast delivery, and discounts for wrap/signage professionals.

    Is that easier to install than if you were to use an adhesive decal vinyl..Orcal 651 for ex? The reason I ask is I had one heck of a time installing orcal 651 on a sign. I needed to change the color from white to orange and it was almost impossible to lay it without bubbles

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, air release vinyl will greatly help you for color changes. Or you can use the wet method to apply the 651, or use the big squeegee to apply. I do this all the time but depends on what vinyl I have in stock as to how it gets applied.
      Thanks for watching! SG

    life span of a wrap on a fresh water lake pontoon boat? any idea?

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the boat stays in the water all year and if it's in the south, you will get about 5-7 years out of it depending on how you take care of it. If it's used on weekends and trailered to the ramp and stored out of the sun 10+years but still needs a good clean and spray wax. Keeping the wrap clean and waxed will always help add life to any vinyl.

    How come you didn't apply it wet?

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't apply wrap material wet. Every brand (3M, Avery, Oracal, Arlon etc) call it something different but all wrap material has an air egress adhesive/liner. Once you have the material in place pressure and heat activate the adhesive. All wrap material is CAST not calendered if you're looking for material.
