Thanks for the great video. I have a bay boat that has a fairly low profile and the part I want to wrap is just over 24" at the widest part. I see 3M sells sheets that are 60" wide. If I were to cut a 60" roll in half would that give me enough material on the top and bottom to work with or do you need more overlap than that to deal with the bow flare?

I had a question about bringing the wrap up to the rub rail.
If the seal-tape needs to overlap the wrap and boat - then you must have ran the knife tape just shy of the rub rail -- Yes?
What distance is that overlap needed?,,,,,,,, an 1/8th inch or??
Also do you seal-tape the wrap overlap at the bow?

Hi Jack, the tape width is 10mm(3/8) and you should have between 3-5mm (3/32 - 3/16) of the tape on the boat side is good. Just need to cover to protect the edge of the wrap. Push the edge seal down very firmly. The edge seal is thinner and has a much stronger bond that stops the water. The reason to also do the top is that the water curls at the bow hits the gunwale and then shoots downwards spraying the top of the wrap edge which could potentially create a failure in the future. On some boats it is possible to remove the rubber rail, install the wrap so it ends under it and then reinstall the rubber rail.
Hi, did not get how you cut the second layer of foil after going over the first one. It's not shown in the video. Did you also use the special green string?

If my gelcoat is chalky and crazed will some 2000grit do the trick or will i even need that?

Watched about ten "How to Vinyl Wrap your Boat" vids on TH-cam and yours is easily the most informative hands down. I have a Quinny Legend CC with clinker sides (lapstrake) Is it still possible to wrap it and if so, is it much harder to do? Cheers for the great vid mate 👍
Thanks Ricko, appreciate it. Yes clinkers are a little harder to wrap. We will have a video coming shortly on that style hull. You need to lay the recesses first then lay flat sections being careful not to trap the air. Post heat is very important on those, if using Avery 1105 with 6460DOL wrap like we do the post heat temp is 70 degrees C, but I generally go to 85-90C.

Is there a difference the wrap materials used on cars then the one used on boat?
For Avery and 3M colour change range are the same.
What kind of seal tape
Can you tell me where you cut the top wrap at the bow? Down the front edge?
Both port and starboard sides have to wrap around the bow 30mm or about an inch so the water flows over the join. If its not wrapped around water will hit the glue edge and risks water lifting it and then getting in under the entire wrap over time. Also don't forget to edge seal around the perimeter
Would it be easier to do the soap and water application?
No water and soap not required and is not recommended for Avery and 3M wrap films
i dont understand how you butted up the ends of the wrap at the bow where they meet and how you repaired the bit cut out around the bow tow hook
They overlap. Port side wraps around over onto starboard side then starboard side will over lap onto port side. Once both sides are on edge seal tape is run down the edge.
@@marineskins understood. Thanks for reply and great video . Did you cut a small patch to fill in the cut part for the tow hook or the overlap took care of that. Also do you put seal tape around the bow hook.

Yes, edge seal was installed around entire perimeter
What is better edge tape or liquid 3m edge seal ????????
I prefer the tape for easy removal when required. The liquid edge seal has a long list of health effects written on the can which I want to avoid. Plus it comes under dangerous goods which makes it harder for us to ship
how long can this wrap last at sea?
A lot of factors determine length of life, for example how well its cared for and what climate you live in. Generally the lifespan for the product we sell (Avery Dennison) you can expect anywhere from 5 - 7 years. Unfortunately we are not able to give a definite life span and like any thing in life the more you care for it, the longer it will last.

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately on the day of recording we had a plover in the background causing a high pitch screeching in the audio which we edited out and replaced with the music. Music like any art form is subjective, some will like it and some won't.
