    My inverter generator has it over light coming on when too much is pulled. My new hobby is electronics I was hoping for you to go into the inverter repairing the capacitors resistors coil. Inverted look like a sealed unit so probably can't do that. I also was looking to see if there's a way to tweak the voltage up watts, and amps. I can see that it can be done but you'd have to really get into that inverter.

    Add my ix200 to the list,, same thing as yours. I had about 20 hours on it and had it about a year and a half and the light came on and took it to a generac dealer to find out that it would cost as much as the generator cost to fix it and its been in my garage ever since. JUNK JUNK JUNK... I"ll never buy a generac product again....

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah,a real shame a domestic company would put out such a terrible product. The market is there for a high quality product, Honda and Yamaha sell thousands of units. Not sure why Generac can't clean up their quality and produce a machine worth owning. You conclusion seems to be the general consensus of most of the owners out there. Thanks for watching!

    The problem with that inverter board is that t1. The t1 is the small isolating transformer that has thin metal plates which rust underneith the yellow tape, and when it rusts the connection is lost between the primary and secondary. Can it be fixed? Yes,,,, you can pull that t1 off with a plier then use a heat gun to clean the board, after rewind a new EE19 bobin primary ccw secondary cw with .1 wire then with four wires connect the t1 from the top like a NTE-1 and your generator will last for years just make sure your new bobbin is not metal plates use a magnet type EE19.th-cam.com/video/8nkCHyKO8t8/w-d-xo.html

    I have a question i have the IQ 2000 generac inverter generator it gets ran 24/7 for almost a year now. just recently it started to kick the breaker on really easily it will be running at 20% I turn on a light and sometimes it will pop the breaker. It used to never do that before I think it might be because of the step motor as it doesn't rev up like it used to when I what plug in power after startup I ordered a step motor just waiting for generac to send it to me

    • @georgedemean2228

      I change the oil about ones a week at first but then it got to where it would use oil and was adding it every day but still ran great. By the time I got the step motor sent to me it finally lost to much compression and now won't start. So now I just bought the generac GP 3600 and it's been running 24 hours Non-Stop for the last 2 months now so far so good

    Hello It’s a shame low run time looks great but now junk. They bring them smaller units into the shop for repair. They have low run time and look great. But most have old gas and never been maintained. Then after you get them running that don’t create power. They don’t tell you that part of the problem. You can spend hours getting them apart then reassembled. You have to disassemble them just to get to the important part like the plugs to check units charging system.

    Thanks for the clear and helpful video. We depend on our off-grid Honda 3.2kva generator, especially in winter (now). My son was welding directly off the generator, instead of the power system, and the generator was surging all over the place. Next thing, it is revving extra high, with no volts coming out the outlet.
    The stepper motor that controls the throttle was AWOL, leaving the throttle to do what it felt like.
    I pulled the control panel off to look for loose wires, fried electronic components, etc, but found nothing.
    I'm reluctant to split the case to look at the invertor, but I guess that's the next step.
    Anyone familiar with these?

    If the inverter is bad, the generator part, generates 12 volts. The inverter is what inverts the 12 volt DC to 120 volt AC 1600 watts. Just remove the inverter, run the 12 volts to a DC 12 Volt Outlet and run a small external inverter. Yes, it would only efficiently run say a 125 watt inverter or maybe a 250 watt inverter at most. This would still give a small fan, a few LED lights and even charge a laptop. We use a lot of tings off our 125 watt inverter and even more things off our 250 watt inverter. Maybe i will try to find one one Craigslist or eBay that runs but does not give power. I would like to tinker with it and see if I could do that. Though the crappy little generator at Harbor Freight Tools for $89 may be a better deal than to try to re-purpose one of these.
    Good video, I always wondered what they look like inside.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah these are expensive to buy and repair. They are made in China too so they are really not much better than the Harbor Freight. It would be cheaper to buy the entire HF generator, take the inverter out of it and put it in this one than to buy an inverter from Generac. So I just bought a new non inverter LPG style generator from Champion, you can see it on my channel. Its clean enough to power electronics, or so it says. We'll see. Getting an external inverter is a neat idea, but like you said it wouldn't be very efficient. I can get a cheap solar panel and a battery for a similar price. They are interesting inside for sure though, they cram a lot of stuff into those cases. Thanks for watching!

    • @stinkycheese804
      @stinkycheese804 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Your information is incorrect. The generator is a 3 phase that generates higher voltage AC to put through a custom inverter to convert to 60Hz, 120VAC. The power path between the generator to inverter then to the 120VAC outlets is never at 12VDC. It should be obvious why. 1600W outout from 12VDC input would be over 100A current, would make no sense to drop voltage so low just to have to handle so much current which is far more expensive and large and heavy to do.
      There is a separate coil for 12VAC which it uses to power the inverter/control board, but it hardly seems worth the bother to try to get that to 12VDC just to run a 125W inverter.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah thanks for letting us know! They are a pretty confusing system for most, but once you understand whats going on its not to rocket science like.

    • @sylkelster
      @sylkelster 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crazyjdkid 5 YEARS LATE, BUT MUST CALL THIS STUFF OUT: If it's not 'rocket science' as you say, then you should be able to de-pot the PC board and find the failed component. Likely a MOSFET, diode, transformer, or a switching regulator component. Taking all that time to take the unit apart just to poke around a spade plug seems like a waste. These are three phase units before the inverter section. I like how all these asshats who chime in just assume everything is 12V-based just because their Harbor Freight inverter connects to a 12v battery. It pays to have intermediate electronic troubleshooting skills for a job like this before taking time to disassemble the unit for what will likely be a failed venture. Unless you go component level, there is no practical way to repair the unit.

    How did you determine the inverter was bad without ever testing anything on the actual inverter? You had the test probes on the wires coming from the engine, not the inverter, so how does that tell you the inverter is bad? Makes no sense to me.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You test on the engine side because the inverter side is not testable. Essentially you are verifying the stator coils that feed the inverter are good, so you know they produce output voltage. If the stators are putting out to the inverter but the inverter itself is not inverting the power than we know the inverter is bad. The power is being supplied to the inverter but the inverter is not supplying voltage out.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, this comment went to spam! The one in the video had the same issue, and it produced DC output but no AC. Unfortunately you won't be able to power a separate inverter. The DC out is rated to 12 Amps and lets say 12V, and wattage is Amps * Volts so your looking at an output of about 144 Watts. No where near enough to sustain a decent sized inverter, but it could slow charge a battery.But that would be horribly inefficient! Thanks for watching!

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately it is not! They epoxied all the components to the board binding them as one. And they connect the board to the heat sink in a permanent manner that makes it essentially impossible to separate it for service without further breaking components of the board. Its a bad situation to be in, as the board is more expensive then the generator! Thanks for watching!

    Hi There, Good afternoon. Great Video! I Have a ix2000 i tested pin 1&4 my ohm meter is reading 1.8 NOT .3 can I ask your thoughts on what I should do next? Thank you for your help. Henry.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Henry! If pin 1&4 are reading that high it means that your stator is bad or you have a bad connection in the harness. First thing I would do is ensure that I was in fact reading pin 1 & 4, and not 3&6. That 1.8 number is fairly close to what 3&6 give out so I would double check that (along with the units on the multi-meter)! Once I double checked to ensure I was reading the right pins, I would further tear down the machine and check all the connections between that wire and the stator unit. If all connections looked good, I would then conclude that it is the stator unit. After that I would do a rough cost benefit analysis to determine if it is worth the cost of installing a new stator unit. Given the poor reliability of these, I would push for a complete replacement of the generator. Thanks and let me know if you have any further questions!

      I despise most of these Chinese generators, although many people have had good luck with them. Most of the manufacturers share similar components and build material quality, just slap a different brand onto it. From what I have seen and heard, and I was forced to own another Chinese generator I would probably go with a Champion generator. They seem to hold up a bit better then other Chinese units and are pretty popular. Thanks for watching!

      I've had good luck with the Chinese gensets. Typically, I will buy them non running usually due to fuel, dirty carb issues. I buy them for $20, clean fuel system, carbs, and resell them for $150-200. Parts are dirt cheap, unlike generac. Voltage regulators for generacs run $150+ while only $5 for the Chinese. If you maintain them, they will last.

    • @crazyjdkid
      @crazyjdkid  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the thing is is that the Generac is a cheap chinese generator with a Generac sticker on it. For me most things like a voltage regulator or a carb is an easy job. But when the inverter module breaks and it's more expensive than the generator itself to replace then I have issues. All my equipment is maintained very well, I can help manufacturing defects that show up just outside of warranty.

Let me know what you find out! www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=www.jackssmallengines.com/Generac-Parts-Lookup/Service-Manuals/0H5039revA%2520-%2520IX%2520Invertor%2520Diag%2520Manual.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwiQ_e3gifjbAhUC2FMKHfkpAP0QFjANegQIAxAB&usg=AOvVaw1Yt8p835Hq80qNWUsm5rEP

      Yeah it's really unfortunate! This one has almost the same run time as yours as well. I bought a replacement already and it wasn't a Generac! Cheap chinese junk that is not serviceable and is just ment to throw away!

      Good idea! Honda is the way to go if you need an inverter style generator

    Why would that part be $600. I think your mistaking. The whole unit NEW is $600. That Inverter part is most likely $150 or so maybe $200 tops. There is no way it's more then that. If it is I would NEVER buy from that company again.

      Here is the part number for the inverter assembly, Google it and see for yourself 0H43470157.

      @@crazyjdkid I'm looking but I cant find that exact part. I see other inverter module unit's selling from $200 to $500 WOW there expensive. I bet that unit you have has a part in it that costs around $2 that is bad in it. But the bad part is it's molded into the heatsink so that vibration and water don't kill it. It sucks because it makes the unit un serviceable unless you have the proper oven and tools to work on it.

      Here is a link to a new inverterwww.partstree.com/parts/generac-0h43470157/ But yes, the part that is broken is probably very minor and cheap. Judging by other comments it is a very common issue for this model.

      @@crazyjdkid After seeing this I would NEVER buy a GENERAC. I have a HONDA and a YAMAHA but I also have the new CHAMPION DH 4000 model 100574 because it can run on PROPANE to. The good thing about CHAMPION is you can order parts for it at a reasonable price. I think the Inverter Module for my unit is like $270 or so if I ever needed one. I'm covered by an extended warranty on the CHAMPION anyways.

    What a waste of my time.
    Watched the whole video.
    What was the point in this.
    Bollocks!!!!

      It diagnosed a Generac generator with a stuck on overload light. You seem to be the one only in the comments who experienced difficulty, any reason for that?

    great vid & great info. ty. With the potted inverter kinda halts a repair at that point if the inverter is indeed faulted. Have you tried the Wen inverter swap as a repair? You can buy them here, and this is the part number: 56200-0512

      I have not tried it. I don't think investing parts into these low quality inverters is would pay off.
