Just bought my first Kaweco sport the other day with an Extra Broad nib, delighted with it. Now I'm eyeing up the calligraphy version with a 1.5 mm nib. Thank you for your informative video.
I just got the 1.1mm italic for my Sport Classic after watching your review. Such a fun nib. I like that it comes with a black section. Now I can use the pen as an eyedropped without having to see that little bit of ink that always gets trapped in the section. Anyways, thanks for the great review!
Seems like a good deal to me, and a very portable alternative to the long thin calligraphy pens. I really do admire the basic Sport, it's a bona fide classic design. Something which would be interesting: a review of the highly regarded but decidedly inexpensive Manuscript pens, which come from the people who supply Leonardt dip nibs. They don't seem to get much attention.
New subscriber here. Many thanks for this video. I have been “eyeballing” this set for quite some time and now I am convinced it is worth. And I know what I will indulge myself in, this Christmas. Cheers from Hellas and season’s greetings. Yours sincerely. George.
yes, and they also are on the ice and a couple of the sport arts too. i prefer the look of the silver trimmings compared to the gold but they are all great pens though and afordable too. just luv 'em!
I am a professional calligrapher of 35 years; I have never used these pens. I use Speedball C-Series dip pens almost exclusively in my work. The only calligraphy 'fountain pens' that I own are a set of Pilot Parallel pens which are extremely versatile. However, I seldom use them. I always go back to my tried and true Speedballs.
I am just a beginner, but from what I've learned so far, this in the video is not calligraphy but handwriting with a broad nib? no basic strokes? or am I confused since the word itself means "nice writing"? :)
Isn't the parker sonnet one of the most bought fountains? Why don't you do a review on it? Oh and is a namiki falcon a pen that leaks and gets ink everywhere or is it clean? Nice video sir.
Yesterday I received a 1.1 nib unit. After cleaning it took quite some time to get decent ink flow with Lie de The, but I wonder if that may be due to using the less than optimal nipple match with the Monteverde mini-converter. Might ED conversion or cartridges provide increased flow? After seeing this I may have to order the complete set as I intend to try my hand at basic calligraphy. : ) Thank you, Stephen.
A calligraphy condom! That's hysterical! I'm not a calligrapher but I was wondering about the amount of ink a 2.3 would go through. I imagine you have to change those cartridges out fairly frequently if you were writing a long document?
Nice videos, as a starting writer, I learned lot of new info out of them. Is it possible to equip a normal(f/m/b...) kaweco replacement nib, or do I need to buy another kaweco sport pen?
Funny thing is that when I first started using bottled ink, I thought that it would go much faster. Yesterday, I just threw away first empty bottle. After 4 years. It would probably go much faster, if I wasn't buying new colours. But for now, I'm done with blue-black. I seem to be entering Waterman Havana phase. I really love that ink, although the ink itself is a little nasty.
How many bottle of ink have u finished? Ever kept track of how many bottles u own?? Jut tried and saw that I ow just enough ink to last to my grandchildren
The short barrel poses no difficulty in holding the pen while posted, but since calligraphy drains ink much faster than conventional writing, a larger cartridge or converter would be desirable.
Dear Stephen, Very informative video. Does the section screw in other Kaweco models (e.g. Sport AL)? Do you have any experience with BSB in this/other Kawecos? Regards. :)
I have a question for you. It is at the end of my explanation. After watching 80+ of your videos, I went to the only fountain pen shop in my city and tried over 30 fountain pens. It was one of the best experiences in my life! I was about to shell out $375 dollars for a Graf Von Faber Castell Guilloche Cheveron fountain pen. Because the pen danced across the paper. I LOVE that pen! My hands are 16cm long and petite. And the pen was light enough for me to use in my art work. Anyhow, I asked the owner if he had any other nibs besides fine or medium that I could try. He did not! But he did have a Lamy Joy 1.1mm and 1.9mm calligraphy pen. The whole ballgame changed once I tried the Lamy Joy 1.9mm calligraphy pen. A new part of my soul woke up! I no longer wanted the expensive pen. I wanted the beautiful effects from the 1.9mm nib! I really want to write with a calligraphy pen everyday! My question is do you recommend the Kaweco Sport Calligraphy set with 4 nibs 1.1mm,1.5mm,1.9mm and 2.3mm over the Lamy Joy Calligraphy set that only has 3 nibs? My second question is are the Kaweco & Lamy nibs true italic flat nibs or are they rounded cursive italics or are they stubs? The man at the shop told me the Lamy was a stub. I am not sure if he knows what he is taking about. I hope you can clear that up.
Glad you're enjoying the videos. I would recommend the Kaweco set, especially as you have smallish hands: the Lamy Joy is a big pen (albeit well-balanced). I love the Kaweco nibs, and they perform very well. They are true, flat italics, so without any tipping material.
1911 / 1912: In price lists (1911 for Germany and 1912 for France): A Kaweco Safety pen for ladies, officers and sport guys is advertised. 1913: The short Safety pens are offered with the headline "SPORT-SERIES"- safest closure in every situation. +sbrebrown its weird and hurt my ears. is this franiscan monk music or something? Good video, by the way. I like your calligraphy and your katana collection

You should get the Rotring Artpen set as well. Three way calligraphy pen shoot-out!
I love how you say schwuuung.
Greetings from Germany :)

You're handwriting is truly spectacular.

Brownie, do you have some katana, by any chance?
Great stuff, I might find one of these sets under the Christmas tree (because I will put it there myself), I will take the white version though.
Looks Great!
Fantastic Video Dude & Really Nice To Watch. Thank you. Keep up the great work. Nick.
don't know if you mentioned it, but the calligraphy line differs from the sport classic in their silver accents instead of gold.
love those pens! :)

@@rastislavstanik Technically, this is not calligraphy, just someone writing with a broad nib pen.
@@mikerobertson4041 thanks for clarification!
Totally off topic, but I'm curious...what do you think of typewriters? Have you ever used one?
Isn't the parker sonnet one of the most bought fountains? Why don't you do a review on it? Oh and is a namiki falcon a pen that leaks and gets ink everywhere or is it clean? Nice video sir.

It might improve, but don't forget that a broader nib uses up a lot more ink, so drying out due to air replacement issues is more pronounced.

did this saying change with time I was taught Many years ago "The quick red fox jumps over the lazy brown dog" ? nice video
Byzantine intro in the first tone (ήχος α). It's very nice to hear, do you also take an interest in this music??
Yes, I do!
Funny thing is that when I first started using bottled ink, I thought that it would go much faster.

hi stephen, did they send you the twin-nib to play with too? that's quite a nice one to mess around with ;)
neil
Thanks for the video - this is exactly what I was looking for.
I have the Pelikan M200 (fine), what do you think about it Stephen?
is it possible use the cawed sport calligraphy set if one is a left handed underwriter? I enjoy your films. Thank you
I'm not a left-handed underwriter, so I don't know. I'd guess so.
I cannot get any of the calligraphy sections to screw into my Kaweco AL Sport. They are too big.
Or you turn the pen into an eyedropper-filled calligraphy pen!
Dear Stephen,
Very informative video. Does the section screw in other Kaweco models (e.g. Sport AL)?
Do you have any experience with BSB in this/other Kawecos?
Regards. :)
I think this section does screw into other Kaweco Sports. I have used BSB in other Kawecos, yes.
Will there be a separate channel for adults only pen reviews, or will here simply be a disclaimer on the beginning of the videos?
I am too embarrassed to admit it, but yes.
I would like to use this pen at work. I find myself writing up to 6-7 pages of prose. Do you feel that the cartridge would be up to the task?
Karam Sarsam not with the widest nib.
Are the feeds on those sections the same feeds that come on the regular sport classic?
I think so, but I'm not entirely sure.
So, I figure these are made of plastic, right? Does the hold set [calligraphy] fit with the *AL* line?
FreeSoftware If you pull the nib and feed, yes.
Thanks.
Thank you penman-san!
Do you actually have a sharp edge on those Katana?
Yes

My Lamy Safari is having serious skipping and start up issues is there anything I can do to fix this?
-Alex
That's hard to diagnose without seeing the pen. You can check out the "tuning a pen" playlist on my channel.
sbrebrown Thank you and sorry wasn't too clear.
Alexander Fiscu That's fine! It sounds a bit like baby's bottom syndrome.
Why is this pen called "sport"?
I have no clue. It's based on the Sport model.

"ANANE" good byzantine ecclesiastical music there.
Ha, you're one of the happy few who recognizes it :-)!
I only have an M205 DUO. Nice pen!
sbrebrown The Greeks are not that many around the world my friend!
GreenArrow2020 That's true :-).
Holy crap - all these Ninja-swords there on the wall, scaring the hell out of me..
Awesome nibs. Now I can improve my ugly handwriting...lol. Always a great review. Congratulations Stephen.
i second this notion :)

wtf is with the intro?
What about it?
+sbrebrown its weird and hurt my ears. is this franiscan monk music or something?

+Jadran Ahlstrom It's a Byzantine apichima.
The intro is a legend
Mr. Brown, you realize you can get a pack of 24 bic ballpoints for $8 us?
Why the embarrassment over saying nib cap? Are people tittering because you used the word rubber?
