Creed was always, and maybe still is, one of most underrated bands out there. I can’t think of a single song of theirs that I do not like. Scott’s voice is so good and there are some serious guitar solos going on.
I'll admit it, I was a fan early on (not a huge fan but I did buy their first two albums to add to my collection) but Scott Stapp ruined that for me. I never jumped on the ridiculous hate train (or cared one way or the other about the religious overtones) but I just moved on after a brief time. While its hard to feel sorry for guys who reached such heights of success in a short time, Mark Tremonti and Scott Phillips are both very underrated on the scene, I'll just say that.
This song is soooo beautiful. I love “Hello my friend we meet again, it’s been a while where should we begin”. Perfect. Its like he’s talking to Most High. This song is about life and how he’s struggled a lot with addiction. Scott’s a recovering alcoholic/addict and so when all these 2000 rock bands criticized him for being “holy” and then drinking, that bugged me. He’s human it’s a struggle. It’s not something to mock. All their songs are about life struggles. So when Fred Durst commented I’m like yeah not cool. G-d forbid your struggles in the future. Something I admired years later with James Hetfield. He grew up and understand the struggle is real. Doesn’t have to be just about drugs, alcohol is an addiction too.
I'm glad to find people who have open minds about Creed. Many rock bands that made it big after Kurt Cobain and before Jack White (1994-2002) are hated for the sake of hatred, which is sad. Creed have 12 Top 10 hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart from 1997-2009: "My Own Prison" (#7 in 1997) "Torn" (#3 in 1998) "What's This Life For" (#1 in 1998) "One" (#2 in 1999) "Higher" (#1 in 1999) "What If" (#3 in 2000) "With Arms Wide Open" (#1 in 2000) "Are You Ready" (#4 in 2000) "My Sacrifice" (#1 in 2001) "One Last Breath" (#5 in 2002) "Weathered" (#7 in 2003) "Overcome" (#4 in 2009) Of those 12, four of them crossed over to the Billboard Hot 100 and became Top 10 hits there: "Higher" (#7 in 2000) "With Arms Wide Open" (#1 in 2000) "My Sacrifice" (#4 in 2002) "One Last Breath" (#6 in 2002) Creed released four studio albums, three of which sold in the millions, and one of which sold in the tens of millions. These are their three million-selling albums: My Own Prison; released 1997; 6X Platinum (Songs: "My Own Prison," "Torn," "What's This Life For," "One") Human Clay; released 1999; Diamond (11X Platinum) (Songs: "Higher," "What If," "With Arms Wide Open," "Are You Ready") Weathered; released 2001; 6X Platinum (Songs: "My Sacrifice," "One Last Breath," "Weathered")
Yup, I was there to buy the 2nd and 3rd albums new. There was not a song to skip on Human Clay, for me. Higher is amazing of course, but I really liked Faceless Man. And going back to My Own Prison the album, can't forget My Own Prison the song - that one's great.
It's just about Scott Stapp. That's it. The rest of the band is awesome. You cant deny Tremonti's awesome riffs, even here. What If. Bullets. One. My Own Prison. Just to name a few of my favorites.
@@BatFan1 Stapp has made a remarkable turn around and to me, he is my favorite vocalist. The passion in his singing just takes you somewhere. He’s definitely learned from his mistakes though.
Scott made some of the most ridiculous statements when they were in their prime. He once stated that "When Creed is finished people will be like 'Jim Morrison who?'." He was very arrogant in the beginning and it was HIS downfall. Today he is very humble and isnt the same scott that he was then.
Stapp had a giant ego and a drug problem. He still has a great voice and Creed is one of my all time favorites. If you've had a child, With arms wide open will bring tears. It's just beautiful. Higher is another great song.
"Hello again" refers to having strayed away from Christian faith and returning to commit to faith once again. It's a spiritual song disguised as love song, very clever. Love It!!!!!!!!
Not according to Scott Strapp (singer and lyricist). It refers to straying from oneself, entering a very dark place (via substance abuse), battling one's way out, and then reconnecting in a place of groundedness. Reconnecting to self.
@@t0dd000 How did he do reconnect to his self? Seems to me he stated several times he surrendered himself back to his faith in God. Not a hard tune to figure out.
@@sbeard73 No, this song is about losing the keys to your airplane but dropping them in the toilet and sacrificing your hand into the pool of pee and feces to get them back.
@@stanflahaut1893 Agreed my friend, it's not for everyone, but it worked for Stapp. Ouote: “I think that at some level I had to get broken to the point of complete surrender, where I could no longer depend on myself or anyone else and I only had one place to turn to, and I cried out to God for help. And right at that moment is when my life began to change.” Scott Stapp
So here's my take: It's interesting that it gave you "church" vibes, because while it is a love song, it's not towards a woman, but a love song towards the Lord Jesus Christ. Scott Stapp is a professing believer in Jesus Christ, yet he seemed to struggle with also desiring the things of the world. In his pursuit of worldly success, he often seemed to 'hide' his faith. As such, his lyrics were a bit disguised, but his heart would shine through none the less. Those who know the Lord, know the truth of the Scripture that says "In His presence is fullness of joy and at His right hand are pleasures forevermore." When He is with us, we are free. Free from worries, stress, and fear ("I'm careless, I believe."). He sings of the 'perfect love' given to him, and that is the love of God, poured out through His Son Jesus Christ. It is Jesus who is his 'sacrifice.' Christ is referred to as THE sacrificial lamb. The sacrifice of justice. He lived a perfect life and sacrificed Himself for our sins. Justice was due. Our sins NEEDED to be punished, otherwise God would not be fair, just and good. So the Son of God became man and sacrificed His life for ours. He took the punishment that was due to us. And THIS is what Scott is singing about. The perfect love that God gives that frees from all guilt and condemnation. The perfect love that gives solace and peace and joy to the hearts of men. And when we willfully rebel against God (like I think Scott had), we greatly desire to restore that fellowship. "I just want to say hello again." Because in His presence alone is fullness of joy.
I was thinking along the same lines as they (Creed) were the initial Christian Rock band that led to Alterbridge....where in the lyrics, there is a true sense of what the word "Sacrifice" is supposed to mean and with our own 'Free Will', we humbly give ourselves to Christianity when we become 'Born again' and that 'Again' is referenced in the lyrics later in the song....at the 5:35 mark

Not proud cuz we grew up together and he knew better but he was high and since he had beat up a couple of our friends who btw were lames he thought he could bark with the big dawgs cuz he had gotten big, he wasn’t ready. Point of my story is that Creed is a good band with great music and just cuz you like the music don’t mean you a punk or soft. Scott challenged limp bizcuits to a fight and he said no cuz he heard that Scott was an amateur boxer who was going to turn pro but chose music instead.
Music lyrics depend alot on context and the meaning you put into the words...I've got My Sacrifice down my left forearm in honor of my son who passed 7 years a ago
One of my favorite things on tik tok are videos of people going "you listen to CREED?!" then they turn their head and start singing. People still try to hate on Creed but idk where it's coming from. They got bangers.
These guys got alot of grief back in the day. They actually had some good songs and the videos were pretty cool too. If you guys listen to this again you should do the video. It may help you understand the meaning a little better.
I will NEVER get tired of seeing Lex's "feel" for music! Parts of songs and musical pieces affect Lex, and it always seems to be in the same parts that have affected me over the years. I love it.
Scott stapp is a legend. Creed the band is legendary and started as a Christian Rock band and progressed into mainstream rock. This band saved me in so many instances and will always be one of the closest to my heart. Love hearing Creed after listening to your Alter Bridge reaction. Do What If, One, What's this life for, Higher. Great review guys 🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Great song, but "Higher" is the song that should 100% be next. No question. And honestly, it should be the actual music video. It's more or less a straightforward performance, no story with it, and just fits the vibe.
Just started watching you guys cause that nut case Alex Hefner put you guys on his favorites list. Alex just may be right...this time. All kidding aside, love you'alls take on the music. I will be watching more and yes Creed did their own thing and made some good tunes. Thanks!

Ha, try this - his sacrifice is that he remains bonded to his woman but has to wait to see her again, they cannot be together all the time, it's a condition of her life - so he waits until she returns, and it's worth it whenever it happens
It’s a double entendre. It can be religious, it can be love. You meaning her/Him. I’m free, I’m careless I believe. Relating to love for one another/ love for Christ. It’s an amazing song.
This is a song about going after the things in this world, and sacrificing friendships/what's truly important, for the fleeting and ultimately empty pursuit of possessions and fame. It could be a song with a neglect of Jesus in mind, or a former love, or dearly held friends, or even the sacrifice of who he himself is truly suppose to be in life. And when Scott sings near the end, when the song slows down, "Above all the others we'll fly." --- well, the way that he sings "fly" is just about the most delicate and tender thing that I have ever heard. During that part of the video for this song, Scott is in a schoolbus that is set up as a shrine to his beloved childhood days. It is an awesome video and an amazing song. Epic!
I’m sure a song like this can speak to us on many different levels but my sacrifice is Christ’s sacrifice. Creed clearly speaks to the Christian experience while not really being in the genre of Christian music.
I vaguely remember seeing someone else say that the singer, Scott, said it had something to do his past addictions/issues. Which is why you see him pulling himself up out of the water in the music video.. He is saying "my" sacrifice.. So I'm thinking it means that when he makes the sacrifice of not feeding into his addictions and fleshly desires, he's reunited with himself.. He's free.
In an interview with Fox News Ainsley Earhardt Stapp stated “I'm a Christian,” when asked about the themes permeating through his music. “It's a part of me, so I can't help that those thoughts and feelings and beliefs are gonna come out.”
Although many haters criticize Creed for lots of good reasons, some of the songs they produced and recorded are great, and this is one of them. The guitar is especially beefy, combined with the bass track. That sound is what made me seek out a Mesa Dual Rec.
He's a Christian, that should help with whatever way you wanna personally interpret the song. Brad ask a thousand people and you will get a thousand different interpretation.
He's saying hello to himself. He's reconnecting to himself after a time away fighting darkness (substance abuse). At least ... according to Scott Sapp who wrote the lyrics.
So this was my favorite Creed song when I was in high school. Now an adult and a born again Christian it's nice to find out that he made this song and many others in reference to God and his Christian faith.
Lex, your very close in your assessment of the song. Creed was a Rock, Christian grunge band. All his music was very spiritual and very good. Listen to more of creed you'll enjoy it. By the way Creed is no long together they kind of self-destructed at the height of their career being the number one band in sales in the late 90's
Definitely remember hearing this song and thinking Pearl Jam had a new album out lol. A lot of singers started 'Eddie Veddering' the vocals in the 90's. Stone Temple Pilots fooled me once too.
Maybe somebody will read this but I have to make the comment. No one gets what this song is about. Scott Stapp is an evangelical Christian. His bandmates didn't want to be a "Christian" rock band so he wrote lots of stealth ( and sometimes not so stealthy ) songs about his relationship with Christ. My Own Prison is not so subtle. My Sacrifice is a love letter to Jesus... that he believes was sacrificed to set him free. The song is wrapped around a loving friendship theme but the core is what I said. Scott stumbled in his early adulthood and recovered. Creed was his personal mission to spread a good message. They were big for a few years and then he stumbled again and the band broke up to distance themselves from his fall. Someone asked why this Creed is scoffed at. They are scoffed at because he was so open about his beliefs and people decided he was a fraud when he stumbled. As if someone who calls themselves a follower of Christ can't possibly be sincere and stil screw up. Fact. Hope this helps someone.
It's a love song for sure. But your thinking Woman. Like I said before. Scott's Dad was a Presbyterian Minister here in Orlando. They kicked Scott out of Presbyterian University for Smoking weed. Scott formed the band Creed. He stops short saying they are a Christian Rock band. But do say that they sing song's of inspiration. If you would react to: "Higher" you'll understand. He sacrificed some of his behaviors or maybe all. " When you are with me I'm free" He's talking about the Higher power. And his Dad "The Preacher" should be his hero. he was Raised up in the Church. People here in Orlando love Scott Stapp. Another band that spun off of Creed is Alter Bridge with Miles Kennedy. Miles left Alter Bridge to become the lead Singer for Slash. And Miles far as I know you heard Miles Kennedy when you saw Slash. What you really saw was Miles Kennedy and the Conspirators featuring Slash. 😎🌴🐊🌞😜🤔 That's what we need in the World. INSPIRATION. THAT'S WHAT CREED SINGS ABOUT. WHAT THEY WERE DOING WAS TO REACH PEOPLE THAT FELT LOSS OR LEFT OUT.
Creed is, or at least was, technically a Christian band. Im not sure if all the members were, but the lyricist/vocalist Scott Stapp is/was, supposedly , I heard once a long time ago somewhere, maybe.
The song is about finding Jesus and then straying away and coming back to him. You have to react to my two favorite and their 2 best songs Arms wide Open which I use to sing to my kids when he came one when they were little and still brings tears to my eyes to this day. The other is My own Prison that song will make you look inside at yourself and look at the mistakes you have made in your life.
This is very hard to listen to. This was me and my long time girlfriend song. We had broke up for awhile and she came and played this song for me and we got back together and kind of became ours. She had a heart attack in her sleep one night and couldn't be revived. Everytime I here this song it feels like getting hit in the chest with a sledge hammer.
The sacrifice of living is to lose the ones you love until you yourself go to a higher place to reunite which is why he is crying out that he just wants to say hello again to the loved ones who are no longer living

I broke his jaw in 8 places and both orbital bones and his nose and 3 teeth. I walked off and left with my girl and turned on my alpine and bumped higher from Creed as I rolled out. Ask limp bizuits lead singer who was talking the same shit about Creed until he bumped into Scot Stapp back stage at an awards show.
Sorry for your loss Jeff
Sorry to hear that mate. No one should have to experience that. Stay well.
No parent should have to bury their child. Much love man.
❤
One of my favorite things on tik tok are videos of people going "you listen to CREED?!" then they turn their head and start singing. People still try to hate on Creed but idk where it's coming from. They got bangers.
It's crazy how Lex is always spot on with the vibes
"My sacrific" is himself just to see that person one more time
Yeah Creed ! Miss It needed this one tonight Thank you B&L
This song is about re connecting with faith in something. Which will give you peace and freedom
The lead singer of Creed went on to sing in the band Art of Anarchy . " Check out " the madness " from Art of Anarchy
Creed what a fantastic band from the 90s, legendary band!
You’d enjoy their song one. Great message about unity.
Such a fantastic song!!!! I'm so glad Scott Stap is back in great health and vocal form!!! 😉❤✌
As always, l love watching Lex' reaction showing the same thing songs make me feel
These guys got alot of grief back in the day. They actually had some good songs and the videos were pretty cool too. If you guys listen to this again you should do the video. It may help you understand the meaning a little better.
I always hear "My Sac of Fries" when I hear this song.
Arms wide open is another great one.
Think of this in a spiritual context, its deep.
Yep. Glory to God!
They have to react to Higher next definitely! ❤️
Higher is an excellent song. But the music video for it is really just a clothing commercial!
Scott Stapp the singer, said the song was about coming back from a dark period of addiction, to find himself again, as well as the people he loved.
Just found out that Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters briliant drummer died (RIP), and then hearing this song.. Instant tears.
*hugs* ❤️
RIP🕊🌌
You guys need to list to Say I and Are You Ready. They're both on that same album and they should let you know what creed is about
Lex always rocking out 🤘
Creed has such catchy choruses 😁
In the book Sinners Creed by Scott Stapp, the lead singer of Creed, Scott clearly states he basically wrote this specific song to himself
Thanks for pointing this out! I recently read that in his book as well.
Just started watching you guys cause that nut case Alex Hefner put you guys on his favorites list. Alex just may be right...this time. All kidding aside, love you'alls take on the music. I will be watching more and yes Creed did their own thing and made some good tunes. Thanks!
🤘😎🤘
The Instant Smile from Lex… Music bobbin’, stealing glances at Brad, Smiling. Y’all do music right. Your fun to watch, while listening to good music.
Creed.. Faceless man, Bound And Tied,
Ha, try this - his sacrifice is that he remains bonded to his woman but has to wait to see her again, they cannot be together all the time, it's a condition of her life - so he waits until she returns, and it's worth it whenever it happens
Checkout One Last Breath next!
“ we together, we kick it, I feel free” lmao I like it! Great reaction
This is a spiritual song. It's more about God than an actual person.
I thought it was about his son
its actually about coming to terms with his addictions .
@@anthonycox6902 and how going back to his Christin ways freed him. It's about reconnecting with God.
It can be all of those things
@@jessepancamo8449 I think "Arms Wide Open" was about his son...? Unless maybe both songs are..?
I wrote my comment before you reacted at the end. Lex has the Spirit in her Soul. Brad you have it too because Lex has it. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
It’s a double entendre. It can be religious, it can be love. You meaning her/Him. I’m free, I’m careless I believe. Relating to love for one another/ love for Christ. It’s an amazing song.
He's singing a love song to Jesus. The theme of most Creed songs is how faith effects life for the better.
One last breath, weathered, and bullets are top tier songs
Yes! Been painstakingly waiting for more Creed reaction.
Would love to see a reaction to "What If."
Epic!
The video for this song is so bad ass. Scott Phillips is a fucking beast
Grunge power ballad! Excellent description 👌 👍👍👍
I’m sure a song like this can speak to us on many different levels but my sacrifice is Christ’s sacrifice. Creed clearly speaks to the Christian experience while not really being in the genre of Christian music.
Creed - What's this life for
🤘
People pretend to dislike creed for some reason
I don't know if it was their intention but I've always felt this song was referring to the sacrifice that Jesus made for all of us.
"Bullets" is Creeds best song
He's a Christian, that should help with whatever way you wanna personally interpret the song. Brad ask a thousand people and you will get a thousand different interpretation.
He sings hello my friend and I interpret that as him saying hello to God
He's saying hello to himself. He's reconnecting to himself after a time away fighting darkness (substance abuse). At least ... according to Scott Sapp who wrote the lyrics.
You should check out Scott Stapp’s (lead singer) solo music! Purpose for Pain, Slow Suicide, Broken!
75% of this band when onto form the most awesome hard rock/metal band 'Alter Bridge'
Ahhhhh such a huge crush when I was little❤️❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
Scott Stapp 🔥🔥
So this was my favorite Creed song when I was in high school. Now an adult and a born again Christian it's nice to find out that he made this song and many others in reference to God and his Christian faith.
Their from Florida and the drummer and lead guitar player are 🔥 it really is a spirtual song.
It’s about returning to the flock, Creed is a Christian Rock group. It’s about his recovery and feeling God’s love
He was a Catholic, most Creed songs are very religion related. This song is about being in heaven
A lot of singers
started 'Eddie Veddering' the vocals in the 90's.
Creed ( pity for a dime) One best Song
Hearing this back in the day. I could not believe it was a Christian rock band. Amazing band.
Creed, “One”
He was talking to Jesus, Our Sacrifice!
He was returning to his Christian roots and faith, struggling with worldly things!
Grunge power ballad. You're awesome guys. Keep it up.
If you would react to:
"Higher" you'll understand.
Grunge Power Ballad! New genre!!!!
Creed is the last of the grunge band era
The ending riff is familiar to Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
React to One Last Breath, another good song from Creed
People shit on Creed all the time, but I have to admit when it comes on the radio I turn it up.
And you know the words 😂
Creed is, or at least was, technically a Christian band. Im not sure if all the members were, but the lyricist/vocalist Scott Stapp is/was, supposedly , I heard once a long time ago somewhere, maybe.
The song is about finding Jesus and then straying away and coming back to him. You have to react to my two favorite and their 2 best songs Arms wide Open which I use to sing to my kids when he came one when they were little and still brings tears to my eyes to this day. The other is My own Prison that song will make you look inside at yourself and look at the mistakes you have made in your life.
Gotta react to "Torn", and "Pity For A Dime", by Creed.
His sacrifice is giving up all the temptations that kept him from the faith he rediscovered.
Did you go to Grace church in STL? So did I! Now I go to Grace East which is their satellite church across the river in IL. Small world!
It’s strange because I relate this song to a childhood friendship for me personally
That little break that Lexi enjoyed, is a Jimmy page riff
She called it exactly grunge power ballad .....damn as a fan, it just feels good hearing that.
It's like a prayer. "Been awhile since we talked, God. Just want to say hello again."
Great song! One of my all time favourites!
The sacrifice of living is to lose the ones you love until you yourself go to a higher place to reunite which is why he is crying out that he just wants to say hello again to the loved ones who are no longer living
