I can't bring myself to get rid of our dog Molly's leash and favorite toy. Molly died of cancer in 2016. Her things are in the garage and whenever I think it's time to get rid of them it hurts too much 😢

If you can't tape these under the furniture, maybe you can put a label that at least reminds you that you have extra screws and an allen wrench (or whatever came with it). Then place a labeled snack bag in a bin for such items with the item that it came with so that it can be easily rematched instead of trying to go through a bin of screws to see if any fit. Then, if the furniture or item gets sold or given away you can send these along as well. If it gets trashed then you will know these are no longer needed.

Oh melissa I have so much stuff and cant bring myself to throw it out or give it away! Plants, lots and lots of obsolete classroom resources ( I'm a teacher), sewing fabrics and magazines, toys from when my adult sons were kids, extra curtains, makeup, curling irons, beautiful ceramic pots for indoor plants, costume jewellery..........and much much more.
Boxes: I often sell old electronics that still work but I've upgraded. Having the original box actually lets me charge more for them and gives buyers confidence that the item was taken care of. Extras: Sometimes you need them, they don't take much space, I'm with Chad here. Maybe only keep one Allan key.
Thanks for your videos! They help us pack & move to our ranch in AZ! Welcome to Parenthood; we have 5 kids 25-34 years. It will be the most fun & challenging thing you each do in your lives! Cindy & Jeff
I've been minimizing for the past 9 years. I inherited my parents house that was full of expensive 'stuff' and I've been selling it on eBay and Etsy and Craigslist. Plus, I've had 8 garage sales (one per year for 8 years). I can't tell you what a relief it is go get rid of this stuff that brings me no pleasure. The only stuff I am keeping is the Waterford crystal!
We keep home/health business cards in a business card binder with “Home Information” labeled on the spine. If we need a plumber or something removed from our eye we have one place to go to quickly get the professional we need.
Watching in Aug 2020. Motto I go by every single day is "WHEN IN DOUBT THROW IT OUT!!!" Never forget this. Ask yurself am I gonna use this or wear it again. It's an easy answer of yes or no. If yu have to stop and think about it or if yure not sure, then get rid of it. Plain and simple.
I keep furniture spare parts in sturdy zip bags, labeled, with the manual and receipt for warranty. Parts may be needed for repairs or if furniture is taken apart for moving.
I'll never get rid of my sailor moon collection! Technically they do make the money right back since I use them as a TH-cam backdrop 😂😂😂 at least that's what I tell my husband.
Yass!!! Just sold ALL my papercraft supplies. Such a burden keeping it and not finding the time to engage my mind back into it. I can say I do not miss it. 😃
I "tossed"" two bags full yesterday! Thanks to your encouragement! I unclutter every few months, but this time I asked myself questions such as: what is the chance that I will actually use it soon? Rather than how much I paid for it, who gave it to me,how much trouble I took to aquire it? maybe I'll need it in 3 years. So it was much easier. I "tossed "some old, hand written musical notes and lyrics(I could have probably made a milion on them in another 100 years!). What a good feeling!
Balderdash and Catan are my favorites! I honestly wasn't expecting those two to come out of your mouth. It's a shame no one in my household will play them with me anymore but I'm still not getting rid of them, they are my absolute faves

We live in a waste economy. Can we recycle, reuse, recycle + bless someone + cash convertor + share/rent initiative when we need to declutter & do spring cleaning.
When my MacBook needed servicing, Apple said that they needed the barcode from the original MacBook box, in order to mail it in for service. I keep all technology boxes👌
That's my hubby, he gets the mail and puts it everywhere, a pile in multiple rooms even though I have a designated area for it. He is working on it though 🙏
I have trouble getting rid of my kids art projects. They happen to be in their 30s now. I have boxes of drawings, clay forms (many of which have broken pieces), ornaments they made in school, etc.
I get that you don’t understand the toy market. But others do. If you really need to purge, sell them to someone who will appreciate them...don’t just toss them in the bin. Remember, just because *you* don’t understand the experience doesn’t make the experience any less valuable.
LOL I save all the nails and screws and little tools as well. I am also a craft supply hoarder but that is about to change as I haven't crafted in a couple of years and I need to pare down to what I just really will use. I just can't seem to get rid of books. I am an avid reader and if I find an author I really like I tend to get every book and read them multiple times. My bookcases are filled and I have boxes of books waiting to be read right now!
You are hilarious, you haven’t crafted anything in 9 years and you don’t think you’re gonna wanna do it again anytime soon; your channel is really helping me clean up my house, a million thanks to you
I was an art student from 14 to 22 yo and I had a looot of art supplies. Oil painting, acrylic painting, 3D pen, inking stuff, you name it. When i was 23 my drawers were drowning with art supplies that I didn't longer need, so I boxed it up and gave it all to crafty friends. They were really happy and I was too because I only kept the stuff that I use, so all of us could enjoy art without all the crap that it comes with.
I had like 30 greeting cards and now I have only kept the ones my parents and VERY close family members who are part of my life today (hope this helps)
I love your videos. So straightforward but you totally get the emotional issue with decluttering too. I'm struggling to get rid of things I've picked up on my travels... did you ditch the Montreal prints yet?! I love scrabble too.
I gave a lot of my craft supplies, especially papers, to a friend who works for the Girl Scouts. They have all kind of projects for their badge requirements and she was happy to get them, as was her daughter who used some of it for her own projects.
Fiance keeps boxes for electronics cause when we move, its basically like safe packing cause the company makes the molds for setting it and all that. My favorite game is 131 Dead End Drive, killer bunnies, and cards against humanity...lol I cant get rid of my old artwork. I suck but I still love em lol
I definitely need to get rid of some boxes. I only try to save them if I’m inside the return window or if I know I will sell it online at some point, and the box will significantly boost resale value or make shipping easier. Sewing machine boxes especially! It is very tricky to ship a sewing machine unless you have the original packaging.
You are the best!!!! I wish I could be a 10th as clean and organized as you are, I'm trying so hard but overloaded here...😭😭😭😭 i wish I could send you pics of this mess... It's so hard to get it going. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Thank you for your inspirational videos..... Thank you so much!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤ you are the best.....me trying so hard everyday that I can....
Megan Jarvis it’s hard to take that first few steps but the trick is to just start and keep doing it regularly. It feels like it’s never ending but does make a huge difference! Learning not to bring new things into the home make your decluttering 10000000 times easier! I’m still going but finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Monopoly Empires(not traditional Monopoly): I try and do a bi-yearly deep house clean. One in the Spring. One in the Fall. The one item I cannot get rid of is projects my child comes home from school with. I have a way of storing the many projects(giant tupperware tub in my office's closet). Thank you for the inspiration.
I’m obsessed with Clue! I have different variations/themes. I decluttered a few and kinda regret it now. But I GUESS I never was reaching for the ones I ditched.
I didn't know what video to ask this on was wondering through best way to get tight bedsheets on my bed my sheets keep folding up as I toss and turn it was thinking of sheet suspenders any ideas on kind or what else can do. I love ur channel
Hand written letters. One penpal is dead, and I genuinely don't think I'll ever be able to find their burial site. I feel like burning some of the letters might be ceremonial, but I'm not sure. Either way, I love your vids on these matters, it's good to get dif perspectives.
My fave is scrabble. I’m teaching myself to de clutter and with your vids is teaching how to. Specially not to be attached and specially if they’re not useful.
I got 2 cheese board sets in boxes for wedding presents. I regifted one to to my husbands cousin as part of our wedding present. Turns out the cheeseboard was engraved 😱😳 I’ll regift much more carefully in the future
Someone regifted me a cheese knife set for my wedding, but the gifter had put a note for them in the box 😂 I opened it to find a lovely note to them thanking them for all the hard work they had done at their company. I still giggle when I see that person.
You just described my entire garage...most of which has been in the same place for the 17 yrs I have lived here! I even had cabinets built to store this stuff - how ridiculous is that? Time flies. Re: Boxes - I decided to put the date on the box when I get it. The reason being because of the potential need for returning the item which is probably only necessary for a month or 2. Now at least when I do decide to declutter them it should be much easier to do. Also moving is another reason, which I used to do about every 5 years, it helped for repacking. But I don't have plans for doing that anytime soon. So my plan is now to find which items go with the box and if I don't need or have that item anymore, then the box is going. Just thinking out loud here...it would be nice to actually have that guest room back!
Melissa ! I bought makers cloths and thought the tag would tell me which is for what ??? The fluffy grey ? The silky ? Please let me know Also I am so motivated by your decluttering videos that I got up yesterday at 5 AM and spent over two hours in my small garage as we Collett decluttering Christmas gifts that I accumulate over the years for my seven children and I felt I think five bags yesterday and filled with many last week we homeschool have seven children and have lived in the house over 20 years it’s rough but you’re helping so keep making them please
question would you do a show on how to deal with the filing cabinet jungle, the helpful hints of filing cabinet care and those papers. i prefer the papers over the computer and so do many. i like the single plastic stackable filing cabinet boxes that way can merely pick up individual box and move as needed. stacks to give room and also stacking two and a board across makes for a quick make do desk. take care and thank you Sister Catherine Spirit Haven
We are big board game people! Our favorites include Ticket to Ride, King of Tokyo and Tsuro. We're decluttering in order to sell our house. The hardest thing to declutter is craft supplies and clothing.
I watched your video and tossed 10 things from 3 different cabinets! 30 items!! Finally threw away some nesting gift boxes that I bought 12 years ago in hopes to create a gift tower
I laughed so hard when you mentioned adult toys and it was the other adult toys that you showed!! Lol! Great video, some things i wouldn’t have thought of and while listening I thought of a few new ones!
I cant get rid of two antique chairs that used to belong to my Grandma. They are genuinely beautiful and I love them both because they are beautiful and because they belonged to her. The trouble is I just dont have the room for them in my home and I am probably never going to own a home big enough to comfortably accommodate them. Both have damaged seats. In order to sell them or donate them I would first have to get the seats replaced. I dont have either the time or the money for that. I have no wish whatsoever to send them to landfill. So they sit there and sit there and sit there. They are getting in the way but still they sit there
Any family members interested? I don't know what type of style you decorate in, but I have seen people hang chairs on walls that have no seats just because the wood is beautiful. You could put two strips of wood underneath the seat and just put a seat pad on the chair. Put it on a porch outside during the summer. Put one to sit on and the other one put a plant on it. So Cal Style. In your backyard. In the fall, if it is under cover you could put fall decorating on them. You would have to really shellac the wood to keep it from getting mildewed or just put it up in the attic until summer. Think of ways to use it not to sit on but as decoration
Hey Melissa. Have you heard of citric acid and sodium percarbonate being used for disinfecting and cleaning especially in the kitchen and bathroom? I have come across this recently but have not experimented yet
Puuufff, for me are boxes and unwanted gifts the hardest things to get rid off. , OMG!!!!! Last week i tossed magazines from 5 years and gift bags (which probably came with some of the unwanted gifts) and i really won some good space! And less dust... Great video!!!🙏🏼✨😘
Magazines and papers are horrible dust collectors. They also are great places for insects to build little nests. So now I am inspired to declutter them.
TFS!! My favorite games are: Cards Against Humanity, Life, Scrabble, Monopoly and Clue! I tend to hang onto a ton of different items, but the most items I keep are either sentimental, items for my adult children and crafting supplies! Over the years I've collected the artwork, report cards and paper certificates and awards from my children. I have 5 kids, all who are adults now, so I not only have all of these items from them, but things they've left behind after moving out! I've taken their school papers and placed them in binders and gave them to them (other than the artwork, which I've sorted through and kept the most precious ones, which I'm currently repurposing into picture frames, scrapbooking & memory books)! As for the items being held after they moved out, I'm slowly going through it with them and letting them decide what they want to do with them! Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to give a few tips on what to do with those sentimental items with children!!
My hardest thing to part with is my children's artwork and school work. I have gotten rid of some, but it is always such a chore to go through whenever their box gets too full. Yes. I have limited most of their things to one storage box each, so that helps. Now, most of their stuff is online or they refuse to let me see it. I have a LOT of gift wrap and gift bags. It happens every year after Christmas. In fact for 3 years I forbade myself from going to stores for the 2 weeks after Christmas. I was using up my stock and so proud until my daughter asked to go to the store to do some shopping. Ugh! Now I have restocked. And we don't buy a lot of gifts so... At least I keep it all in one bin. I think it is time to get a smaller bin though.
Last year I decluttered the whole house to a manageable level and have now realised that I don't miss anything that I threw out, sold or donated. One thing I can't get rid of are my books,( from my younger years) I read them every so often so they're not really clutter.
Im definitely going to declutter tools, thanks for the tip! I love Scattagories the answers ppl come up with are hilarious! Was I the only one dancing to this video!? Fun music!
Keys and business cards - yes. I don't know why it's so hard to throw away a key! LOL I have a hard time getting rid of things that belong to my Dad (who has passed).
I just recently asked my dad if I needed all of those extra parts and he said yes. 😑 I’m going to give them to him the next time he visits I don’t want them! 😂
Alta Neri same. We dumped probably 50lbs of random stuff like that. I really don’t think I’ll need fluted concrete nails i haven’t used in 10+ years and probably won’t need for another 10+ years

Do you have a specific website you suggest for selling old electronics? (I have the boxes for most of mine, as well) Is eBay still the best way?
@@jewelsbarbie Sorry, I usually use OLX, which, I think, is only available in Brazil and Portugal.
@@Draconicrose thank you for replying! I will continue to research and figure it out. :)
@@jewelsbarbie No problem! Good luck.
I give gifts without wrapping, bags and cards... it saves time, the environment and lots of money $$$!!
I've been on declutter journey for several years but still find things to donate consistently wonder why we kept in the first place.
ur videos are inspiring and motivational i tried ur cleaner rcp s really worked very well
Ive been constantly decluttering yes it's a never ending quest😓 have seen all your videos and love them. Love from India🤗
Thanks for your videos! They help us pack & move to our ranch in AZ! Welcome to Parenthood; we have 5 kids 25-34 years. It will be the most fun & challenging thing you each do in your lives!

Jennifer Rumsey exactly
Watching in Aug 2020. Motto I go by every single day is "WHEN IN DOUBT THROW IT OUT!!!" Never forget this. Ask yurself am I gonna use this or wear it again. It's an easy answer of yes or no. If yu have to stop and think about it or if yure not sure, then get rid of it. Plain and simple.
I keep furniture spare parts in sturdy zip bags, labeled, with the manual and receipt for warranty. Parts may be needed for repairs or if furniture is taken apart for moving.
Sequence is a really great board game!!! We give it as gifts after we play it with newbies and everyone loves it!
I'm on a declutter Journey as we speak any extra ideas are always helpful😁
I've got all these piles of diaries I've tried in the past to let them go. I am about to go through them again see if I can do it.
I found two channels that I liked very much this one, and Ramon at home, helped me a lot on my home decor and cleaning thank you ❤️
Pictionary has brought tears of laughter.
Not all instructions are available online. I have looked!
Scan the hardcopy. That's the only way.
Wanda Richardson folders are good for warranty or instructions. Sometimes you need the original paperwork
I had no idea I was so bad, after watching your tips I'm filled with anxiety and cant wait to start.
Balderdash is my absolute fave and no one will plays board games in our house either....but I refuse to get rid of it. lol
Favorite board games:
Strategy = Scythe
Card = (Complex) Race for the Galaxy, (Simple) Diamonds
Party = Throw Throw Burrito & Times Up Title Recall
Gateway Game = Ticket To Ride & Splendor
Prettiest = Photosynthesis
Brain Burner = Twilight Imperium 3 or 4 either one 😊
We live in a waste economy. Can we recycle, reuse, recycle + bless someone + cash convertor + share/rent initiative when we need to declutter & do spring cleaning.
When my MacBook needed servicing, Apple said that they needed the barcode from the original MacBook box, in order to mail it in for service.
I keep all technology boxes👌
Sure, you can flatten them and store them easily.
Wanda Richardson they actually just need a receipt for proof of purchase.
I keep ALL our Apple product boxes!
I work for apple whoever told that is wrong all they need is the serial number on the bottom of the MacBook I do this 500x a day
me too
Random paper piles literally in every room 😩 I can’t keep it gone
That's my hubby, he gets the mail and puts it everywhere, a pile in multiple rooms even though I have a designated area for it. He is working on it though 🙏
I have trouble getting rid of my kids art projects. They happen to be in their 30s now. I have boxes of drawings, clay forms (many of which have broken pieces), ornaments they made in school, etc.
Mary-Ann Z. Reynolds never throw that out 🙏🏽 your grandchildren will love that 🥇
I get that you don’t understand the toy market. But others do. If you really need to purge, sell them to someone who will appreciate them...don’t just toss them in the bin. Remember, just because *you* don’t understand the experience doesn’t make the experience any less valuable.
As a proud nerd her judginess was a real turn off when I've actually spent money on her cleaning products. 😔 Not making that mistake again.
At first when you said adult toys I wondered what on earth you were going to show.😀. Anyone else?
Mellisa, your teacher friends may also be able to use those keys. (younger kids especially)!!!
Sequence and Rummikub are my faves! Great 2 player or multiple too!
I declutter often but I have all of my old computers/iPad- not sure how to safely dispose of them. So nervous my personal information will be exposed.
I can't get rid of greeting cards!
I had like 30 greeting cards and now I have only kept the ones my parents and VERY close family members who are part of my life today
(hope this helps)
@@lemons6407 Thanks for the tip! I will have to go through my box of greeting cards soon!
@@mjbeauty13 what I also do is that I put them inside a wall photo frame instead of putting pictures. I keep my pictures in photo albums.
I think it would be a great idea to donate the board games to old age homes or orphan homes 😊
Great idea! 💫
I love your videos. So straightforward but you totally get the emotional issue with decluttering too. I'm struggling to get rid of things I've picked up on my travels... did you ditch the Montreal prints yet?! I love scrabble too.
perfect timing ! i'm moving this weekend and need to get rid of some things!!
Yes I needed this today!!! Thank you!!!
I gave a lot of my craft supplies, especially papers, to a friend who works for the Girl Scouts. They have all kind of projects for their badge requirements and she was happy to get them, as was her daughter who used some of it for her own projects.
Excess jewelry I’m never going to ware but think I may someday
What business cards app do you recommend?! Thanks
Fiance keeps boxes for electronics cause when we move, its basically like safe packing cause the company makes the molds for setting it and all that.
My favorite game is 131 Dead End Drive, killer bunnies, and cards against humanity...lol
I cant get rid of my old artwork.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for your inspirational videos.....
I’m just like you. It can be done though! My husband and I just finished a massive whole house declutter that took us 4 months!!
Turns out the cheeseboard was engraved 😱😳
I’ll regift much more carefully in the future
Someone regifted me a cheese knife set for my wedding, but the gifter had put a note for them in the box 😂 I opened it to find a lovely note to them thanking them for all the hard work they had done at their company. I still giggle when I see that person.
Oops! 🙈☺️
I still have my dog's bowl and pet supplies. I keep it in case I get another dog. Thing is my dog died 15 years ago.
I lost both of my dogs a couple months ago. Cannot bear to get rid of any of their stuff
@@Turtle22124 I'm so sorry for your loss. Not just once but twice. Dogs are family. It's sad to lose them.
I love Splendour! Such a fun board game.
Melissa ! I bought makers cloths and thought the tag would tell me which is for what ??? The fluffy grey ?
The silky ?
Please let me know

I am so motivated by your decluttering videos that I got up yesterday at 5 AM and spent over two hours in my small garage as we Collett decluttering Christmas gifts that I accumulate over the years for my seven children and I felt I think five bags yesterday and filled with many last week we homeschool have seven children and have lived in the house over 20 years it’s rough but you’re helping so keep making them please
question would you do a show on how to deal with the filing cabinet jungle, the helpful hints of filing cabinet care and those papers. i prefer the papers over the computer and so do many. i like the single plastic stackable filing cabinet boxes that way can merely pick up individual box and move as needed. stacks to give room and also stacking two and a board across makes for a quick make do desk. take care and thank you Sister Catherine Spirit Haven
Absolutely great declutter video
I need to declutter my T-shirts!
Your lipstick choice in this video is not only really pretty, but it also brightens up your face. Nice selection.
Great video. There are a few items that I can release and declutter. Thanks for the tips.
"Oh yes, there's that thing that I needed!" 😂 💗💗💗
Puuufff, for me are boxes and unwanted gifts the hardest things to get rid off.
, OMG!!!!! Last week i tossed magazines from 5 years and gift bags (which probably came with some of the unwanted gifts) and i really won some good space! And less dust... Great video!!!🙏🏼✨😘
Magazines and papers are horrible dust collectors. They also are great places for insects to build little nests. So now I am inspired to declutter them.
@@songbirdforjesus2381 absolutely ! !
I keep them and yes I've had to use them because some of those keys are metric and can't be purchased at Lowe's or home depot I found out
Your school teacher friends might want those keys for crafting projects.
Wanda Richardson and unwanted games maybe?
Graduation. Keys to Success cute project
I had to go and find a hex key the other day to tighten a piece of furniture. Glad I did keep at least one of them.
Im definitely going to declutter tools, thanks for the tip! I love Scattagories the answers ppl come up with are hilarious! Was I the only one dancing to this video!? Fun music!
Really helpful video. Thank you for it.
I was like “you have too many vibrators?” Lol 😂🤣😂
My husband has a ton of keys and tools he won't depart with. I decluttered our home this year and don't miss anything we got rid of.
Alta Neri same. We dumped probably 50lbs of random stuff like that. I really don’t think I’ll need fluted concrete nails i haven’t used in 10+ years and probably won’t need for another 10+ years
Is there a way to make the volume higher during filming. I'm hard of hearing and this video had no closed caption, so I couldn't hear it :(
