I’m jealous. Wish I could play like that. Just started bass a month ago. One thing i notice about your rendition compared to others is that others play the piece as it is written. You add your personality into it and it makes it a degree above the rest. Many on you tube do this with many classical pieces. Thank you.
You sir are have an amazing sound, you play with such poise and grace even Bach would have been moved. Thank you for the mini concert, it was appreciated.
Condivido a pieno l'interpretazione. Speriamo che ci siano sempre più bassisti, che si dedichino a trascrizioni di Opere di J.S. Bach ed a quelle della Musica d'Arte in generale (oltre che a composizioni originali).
Mr . Mario, indeed I think is the greatest inspiration ever to all bass players like me who love Bach and bass guitar….indeed its enchanting to listening Bach and sublime Warwich bass guitar Thanks a lot for sharing!!!!
Mario DAmato No please quite the contrary Mr.Mario thank you, for your kind reply and hope you could share more beutiful videos like this indeed looking forward to it and offcourse I will buy your precious DVD and book!!!!
Saludos!!
I am learning this piece on a 5 string tuned E to C. To be honest I prefer the D on the 10th Fret rather than the open for that tone. But then I have the relative luxury of the higher notes being on the C string....still it’s a like from me.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong here: But isn't the original piece meant to be played in the lower octave of bass? It feels like every bass guitar cover of Cello suite 1 I've found is played in the upper octave, whereas (given I'm not mistaken) the Cello version would be played in what would be the Basses lower octave? (Personally when practicing this, I play in the lower octave, is there some funky stuff because of the way a Cello is tuned?)
So you would have to be playing it on a 5-string then I guess? I have a transcription for Double Bass by H. Samuel Sterling where the whole thing is in C not in G. Maybe you want to try that.
@@klapsigaarenbasgitaar1931 You would have to, but most bassists on TH-cam I've seen choose to play the prelude on a 5 string, just the upper octave, which always seemed odd. Especially because it doesn't sound any worse in the lower octave. (depending on your tone)
@@Skitlzz-8 Actually, I saw that the guy of the Talking Bass channel plays it in the lower octave on a four string. The few low notes that he cannot reach he plays am octave higher. Don't know if the old J.S. would approve but I guess the way you play it is the most important. In the end it doesn't matter because the piece was meant for cello and it will never sound as good on a bass guitar.
Dear Mario, I bought your Bach suites DVD and book a few days ago via Paypal but did not get a confirmation from your website but only from paypal. Can you confirm you recieved the payment? I am so looking forward to it!
1:44 dude that should be a B flat in stead of a B check it out..... At least that's what my book says, check out also Micha Maisky's rendition here on TH-cam.
This is not a polka tune. Why then do you accent every downbeat? More often than not these 'unfolding' eighth notes are meant to be phrased in groups of five or three (when they start on the beat), and four (only when they start off the beat to carry over it) but never 2. You have the technique, just not the scope or scale. Remember at least that the first note of each new phrase is in fact 'NOT'...its the last note of the preceding phrase, so approach it as such and 'come to rest on it for its 'full' value as it were arriving home if only for an imperceptible moment. The ear can't abide a 'clipped' final note of a phrase: it kills the phrase it was meant to resolve. Try singing it and fitting quick 'gasp-breaths' in after a 'deliberately' labored final note at the end of the phrase you are engaged with. Never cut a phrase short to breath in order to service starting the next phrase on the beat.

Very impressive. Never seen anything of that level of base dexterity.😊
I've come back to this, year after year. See you again in a few months !
You sir are have an amazing sound, you play with such poise and grace even Bach would have been moved. Thank you for the mini concert, it was appreciated.
Thank you very much.
most beautiful cover I’ve ever heard
Absolutely beautiful. I had no idea that a bass could be played in such a manner.
thank you very much for your comment
Absolutely the best adoption of Bachs Cello Suite 1, for Bass guitar I've heard anywhere .. Massive talent and rock tight . Thank you.
many thanks for the comment, very kind
Man, the dynamics and tone. Its nice to see every note considered instead of "getting through the piece" on a modern instrument.
thanks for the comment, musical interpretation is the basis of my study, and dynamics is in fact the fundamental parameter of interpretation.

Best bass version I've heard yet. great tone!
thank you very much for your comment.
Go check Heiko Jung's work, he has a lot of them
I dig your economy of motion with your fingers. I'm trying to learn the same thing on my bass.
Beautiful share, you play very nice, beautiful guitar song.
Have a wonderful day to you.

Thats a beautiful guitar and u play the best Bach.
This is incredible. I think this piece sounds best on bass guitar, even better than cello
Grazie!
Excellent. I think it would be possible to transpose it further down the neck - especially on a 5 string
Beautiful playing, beautiful instrument.
Wonderful interpretation! You are an inspiration to me for solo bass playing!
hi Matthew, thank you very much for comment.

Absolutely stunning
Beautifully done and with a great tone! 😊🎸
i mean this in the most complimentary way; you look exactly like the type of man who would be able to play that
Thank you very much!
I just started lerning this piece for my bass it's super fun :)
Magnificent!!!
Meraviglia.... Grazie...
Why does no one let the top string ring . Non of the other strings are muffled. Let it ring while playing on
Nicely done, love your tone and modulation.
Wow!! Frets for days!
What brand and model of bass are you playing in this video? 😍 Sounds fantastic!
thank you! it's a warwick thumb
Sweet and soothing. Is that a Warwick Thumb? I've never seen one with fret markers before. Did you add them? What amp?
2024 anyone?
Bravo !!!!!!!
Bravo
Nice!
Beautiful playing!

Amazing
First blick i thought it's Draco Malfoy playing on bass.

Potresti lasciare le tabs ? Per favore 😢
What bass guitar are you playing?
I believe it's a Warwick Thumb of some sort
Grande :)
did you use any effect? sounds like there is some reverb or something
Yes, I added reverb
Beautiful sound. Time to purchase the score, what strings were used?
hi! thank you for comment! I used there rotosound strings.
poderia me fornrcer a tab
hi! you can find it here: www.mariodamato.net/purchase/
What is that bass guitar you have?
warwick thumb NT
Well done, the tough thing about Bach is staying right on tempo...
can you tell me the bpm ?
in the score there are no time indications, but generally it is performed in time allegro or allegro moderato.
This makes me wonder what it would sound like if Cliff Burton played this
The same, just with distortion and wah. Maybe he would throw some licks in there too
40watt well yeah but i mean with Cliff’s bass tone, he had such a unique tone in my opinion
when he ended I stood up to clap.
thanks!!
If I had a bass guitar I would burn it!
That is what I did to my guitar following
a concert by Los Indios Tabajaras!
Honest injun! 😂
is that a warwick dolphin?
Hi! it's a warwick thumb, about 30 years old
no ez feat
what type of bass is this?
it's a warwick thumb
