    • @mattjack3983
      @mattjack3983 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sammmuelspaul1946Well in this particular story, the interpreters was definitely "sung", since Mike Edwards DID credit him with getting them out of that very tense situation.
      But dont go thinking that was anything close to standard for interpreters, or most Afghans who were contracted by our military. Or that they were all "unsung heroes" or anything. That is FAR from the case.
      Not all of the interpreters were anything close to being heros, unsung or not. The majority of them, and the ANA and ANP was trash, and that's the real truth. There were alot more shitbags and garbage humans than actual decent people, let alone "heroes", who were in those positions, and that includes the interpreters.
      That's cool that they made an awesome movie about the one guy, and that the guy got the recognition he deserved. It certainly seemed like he was a good man. But he would be one of the few exceptions. Most were not like that, and did not possess that kind of valor, bravery, or even human decency.
      We did not trust, nor did we have much confidence in the ANA or any of the other Afghans we contracted in Afghanistan. And we had many, many good reasons for that. And anyone over there who had any doubt in that just needed to stick around a little longer, and they would demonstrate exactly why they couldn't be trusted, and exactly why there was so little confidence in them.
      All of the really good ones were very few and far between, and usually got swooped up by the JSOC/SOCOM teams.
      Really, they should make a movie all about how difficult trying to train and work with ANA and ANP really was, and how fucked up it all was. I think most people would be pretty surprised.

    As a skydiver, at a civiliian dropzone these military guys learn the finer points of our sport, I've always had a ton of respect for the military jumpers.
    As a sport skydiver, I can choose what day I want to jump, the weather I find best, and I can just call it off if I'm not feeling 100% or just lazy that day.
    These guys do it as part of their much broader skill set. They go when it's time to go whether they really feel like it or not. It's only a small part of their complex overall jump, while jumping out of an airplane remains that: you are jumping out of an airplane. That's not a Disney ride. It's very real and you have a short period of time to do what you need to do before Earth decides time is up.

    • @slartybarfastb3648
      @slartybarfastb3648 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@valdivia1234567 That's my point. As a civilian skydiver, we don't worry about being shot or needing to shoot when we land. We don't worry about landing in the water two miles from shore to hit a beach at midnight. We don't jump with 100 pounds of gear.
      Skydiving is a highly technical activity without all of the military add ons, and the act of exiting an airplane in flight is a serious danger every time.
      People who don't understand this simple fact should stay home.

    I decided to pick up the Bible again one day in August of 2006 with 0 inspiration or desire but I had been depressed for some time and was looking for something to get me out of it and even though I didn't think that it would make a difference something supernatural happened and I now know that it was the Holy Spirit opening my eyes and mind and I am a completely different human being in every way since that moment! It was as if scales fell from my eyes and things that I had read before took on a whole new and completely different understanding and I do KNOW that as the Bible tells us, "there is only ONE teacher that we need" and ONLY one that can teach us the Truth and that is the Holy Spirit who teaches everyone at their own level and teaches them what THEY need to know for God's unique purpose for their individual life! I think that level of anger you feel just before you do something you regret to your wife or in front of your child is linked to ptsd. It’s not like the movies depict, where you hear fireworks and have a flash back and go on a rampage. No it’s more subtle and more imbedded within who you are. People who haven’t been through extremely traumatic experiences, where you are hyper vigilant every waking moment don’t experience that level of anger and that level of shame, guilt and regret once the storm has passed. I think a lot of folks see ptsd as absolutely debilitating, but it’s not and it may only rise in a stressful situation. Or when you’re in a bad mood and you snap at your wife and she decides she’s not taking that disrespect…then the kindling box goes up and the monster you needed over seas to keep you alive is now standing in front of your family.

    When hes speaking about knowing where he's at, especially in the woods and not needing anything to find his way back. I can vouch for him, because im the same way. I grew up up running around miles of woods and never got lost. Sadly the place is a gigantic subdivision now.

    Hey Ryan... This segment is absolutely outstanding. I might add, that I received the notification for this, by way of the " short " YT video segment which blasted me straight here. I've got to say that your style of instinctively keeping the path on point and " edge of the seat "... is refreshing and above par! Super stoked to have been one of the lucky listeners... KUDO'S my friend, you keep me coming back.
    Respectfully, Seth

    Mike Edwards had a charmed career and is a statistical anomaly. You can count on one hand the total number of guys who started the GWOT can claim the number of deployments, legit missions, in legit units that walked away after twenty years with full benefits, mentally and physically more or less fully intact, no PTSD, with all of their close friends alive and their marriages intact.
    He seems like a really chill guy and suffers well the insights of hindsight that cripple others with guilt. I appreciate a man who knows himself and his own limitations. There was a definitive fork in the road when he could have gone into the JOC and stepped up into a much broader joint world and probably kept moving up. But he went back and then went RRC and then ended up staying tactical unti retirement and we ended up hearing his cool stories. And only ding he got is the crick in his neck.

      There's a spec ops guy from Canada who is popular for arm wrestling named Devon larratt, he is an interesting character, he retired and went full time professional arm wrestling, but his combat stories are wild, but he rarely discusses them, but he served 7 deployments in both theaters in middle east. The guy isn't a regular guy though he is one of those born leaders, alpha males, yet articulate and grounded. Once you see him arm wrestle you will get hooked, he uses that now as his battlefield and warfare.

      @@shable1436 I just started following Devon a few months ago. He's one of a kind. I knew that he was a former spec ops, but I've never heard him talk about it or tell stories.

      @@cdkilo77hi friend, yes Devon rarely shares, but when he does, it's as you would expect him, humble, and survivors guilt, he saw lots of death, and I've followed him for IDK how many years now but he only had 7k subs, and not many vids, he hadn't fully retired yet, and still looked like Superman back then😂, so it's been awhile now, but yeah he has shared his helicopter shot down story, and his team was getting picked off by Taliban as they tried to take cover on the mountain, sounds eeriely familiar, but he goes into detail about it, and im thinking he did a podcast with another spec ops team member and there he shared a few battles, i think they were promoting that warrior treatment that he gets, it's like eatables or something.
