    Good program :-) I like it that you try different food, ofcourse prices are expensive for a tourist but think that for a local the paycheck is also bigger, even that sometimes it can be abit expensive even for a local to shop out, thats why it is not normal for norwegians to eat out daily atleast.
    You would think that Norway and food is .. well what is norwegian food, weeeeelll ... we do have many norwegian chefs that seems to win alot in international competition too so there are good chefs and they do use local food as inspirations alot of times.
    For example traditional food that are not weird to look at and probably not in taste can be for dinners like Kjøttkaker (as you tried)
    fiskekaker (Fishcakes as you tried)
    whale beef
    Pinnekjøtt (lamb ribs, tried and salted and sometimes smoked)
    Ribbe (Pigs ribs, often served during christmas ... and often a traditional christmas dish),
    Fårikål (Lamb meat usually best at the time they slaughter lambs)
    Cod (just fresh cod boiled, it can be light salted too .. its simple and tasty)
    Seibiff (Pollock/Coalfish, a fish that is overlooked but quite tasty, its meat is darker than Cod and Haddock).
    Reinskav (Reindeer, you get it in many various dishes like Reindeer chops is very good, Reindeer steak and so on), it does not have to be reindeer, it can be many type of game meat, like Moose and Deer that is quite common around in Norway.
    That is just a few dishes that is quite traditional, but there are many local variants ofcourse.
    For more weird type of food it can be...
    Lutefisk (Often traditional christmas food many places)
    Smalahove (Sheeps head smoked and boiled... never tried it myself looks weird).
    Rakfisk (fermented fish, its trout or salmon, most often freshwater fish that is salted and stored in containers in a similar way as Surströmming (wich we see alot of dares on the net)).
    These are often main course dishes... but yeah I think that norwegian cuisine is quite underrated .. even among norwegians :-)

    Its much cheaper to buy ingrediens, brown cheese and bread etc. in the stores than in a diner type place or something.

      It's a classic easterner dish, but they do have flæsk i persillesovs in Denmark, which is much the same idea.

      I'm not finding much pleasure watching food disappear into those cavernous maws, while big mama keeps a tally of its cost, a sort of date night horror show.

    Nice program, and thanks for coming to Norway! I have to correct you a little with regards to the brown cheese....it's not actually cheese. It's made from the liquid that's left over after you make cheese, I think it's called whey. It's reduced to a paste we call "prim", and if you reduce it some more, y"ou'll let it harden and voila; there's your"cheese" . Nowadays it's mostly made from cow's milk, you'll definitely taste the difference if it's made from goat's milk!

    Do you use KitKat when you to hiking or skiing? . A kvikk lunsj is seen as a totally common thinng when you do soo.

      Americans usually would eat something like a granola or protein bar. To us, Kit Kats are a guilty pleasure.

    The cabbage is not actually sauerkraut. Surkål, what you had, is pickled, and sauerkraut is fermented.

    • @2foodtrippers
      @2foodtrippers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pickling and fernentation are essentially the same thing.

    Kvikk lunch is made long before kit katt

    • @2foodtrippers
      @2foodtrippers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      "Like a Kit Kat, Kvikk Lunsj consists of four conjoined planks of milk chocolate-covered triple-stacked wafers. Kvikk Lunsj was released by Freia in 1937, two years after Rowntree's of England launched Kit Kat. As Nestlé bought Rowntee in 1988, today Kit Kats are produced by Nestlé worldwide, except in the US where they're made by Hershey under license from Nestlé. Kvikk Lunsj is produced by Kraft Foods, who bought Freia in 1993."
