Some of these tips may not be the same advice you'll hear from an experienced Roux solver (since I use CFOP). If you plan to use Roux, check the description for good channels!

Hello jperm! I just have a couple of questions because I just recently lost my gan 256 air cube and it was good but then I lost it so I was wondering if you new about moyu cubes. Be cause I saw a stickerless magnetic moyu cube for 25$ and didn't know if I should get. I did watch a video about it but I still don't knows so I need your advice. Another quistion, what do you prefere? A stickerless cube or a stickered cube. Thank you and thank you for your videos.

And can u buy replacement caps for it? Or should I just buy a moyu.

As a roux solver who averages just sub-15, I can say that this video does contain some crucial tips that will definitely help you improve and that you’ll be using all the time once you hit like sub-17. I will add my general comments to each tip, plus 2 bonus tips.
I may hit the character limit with this, so if you see a (...) at the end, check the top reply, it’ll be a continuation of this
    -=-=-=-=-=-
Tip 1: Using any pair (0:10)
Not much to say here. Become x2 y color neutral is practically crucial to have if you get pretty fast, even more important than becoming color neutral with CFOP even (maybe). I recommend learning how to do this once you’re sub 25.
Full color neutrality with roux is useless, don’t bother learning it.
    -=-=-
    Tip 2: Full square (0:51)
Same case as before, not much to say here. Sometimes the best block case you can get on a scramble will have a pretty bad first pair which can be avoided by blockbuilding instead of doing the DL edge then first pair.
Again, you’ll use this a lot as an advanced solver, I recommend drilling blockbuilding only the first square untimed to help you learn.
    -=-=-
Tip 3: First block single piece inserts (1:39)
You’ll use this sometimes. On some scrambles, you’ll get a DL edge + a solved corner or edge attached to it, and you’ll have to use single piece inserts to make the first square.
In some other scrambles, you can get this weird/nasty conglomeration of the DL edge + front pair corner and back pair edge (or vise versa)
In so other scrambles, you’ll get only the first block edges solved or the DL edge + corner solved, and you’ll have to insert the corners or the remaining edges using single piece inserts.
You’ll use this a lot less than the first 2 tips, but you will use it sometimes, so you should still learn it.
Also, if you have the very rare case where the 2 first block pairs are attached to the center and the DL edge is somewhere else on the cube (or it’s flipped in its spot) you can move the DL edge to the top layer (if it’s not miss oriented but it’s permuted) , do a D or D’ move, and use the M slice to move the DL edge in. For the case where it’s permuted but miss oriented, do D M’ U2 M2 D’ (or D’ M U2 M2 D).
    -=-=-
    Tip 4: M for second block (2:39)
If you’re trying to solve the DR edge, I recommend using r (R wide) moves to reorient the edge, as it’s ergonomically better to do so.
For the case at 4:32, it’s much more efficient to do M U r U’ r’ instead of M U M’ R U R’. Cases where you can use wide moves to your benefit come up often, and it’s important to be efficient by using wide moves.
Just a tip for making pairs during second block (and sometimes first block):
Assuming white isn’t on the top and the edge you’re trying to pair up with its corner is in the DF position,
    - If the front color of the edge you’re trying to solve and the top color of the corner you’re gonna pair it up to are the same, move the corner to the front and do an M’ move.
    - If the top corner color and the front edge color are opposite, however, move the corner to the back and do an M2 to pair it up.
The same logic applies to if the edge you’re trying to pair up is in the DB spot. For that, however, I recommend looking at the color of the edge on the D face instead, of it’s the same as the top corner color, move the corner to the front and do an M2, and if the colors aren’t the same, move the corner to the back and use M to pair it up.
    (...)

    • @thaiisfood
      @thaiisfood 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

Tip 5: Transitioning from EO to LR (5:09)
So assuming you don’t have an EOLR case, you should do this tip.
However, most of the time, you’ll get an EOLR case, or a case where you can do EO and set up the LR edges. For that, you won’t really have to watch the edges because of you’re doing EOLR, you should know the moves to set the edges up.
If you know EOLR and you’re solving a case for it, look at the CMLL corners so you no what Y move you have to do before you insert the LR edges with an M2 move.
This one is kinda hard to explain, sorry if you don’t understand .-.
      -=-=-
Tip 6: Two special LR cases (5:46)
No comment. Most advanced roux solvers use this.
      -=-=-
      Tip 7: Predicting L4E (6:25)
      For the L case:
Like J Perm himself said, this isn’t the most efficient way of doing this.
There are like 8 different cases for this, and this tackles like 2 of them effectively.
The recognition for this includes stuff like seeing if the “L” edge side color is the same or opposite of the center in front and whether to move the edge opposite or above the L edge in the M slice after putting in the LR edges, etc.
There is absolutely no way I’m gonna go over each and every case for this, instead, go watch either:
      -Kian Mansour’s video over 4C aka L4E
-Critical Cubing’s video over his BU recognition technique for LSE
For the broken bar along the M slice:
It’s better to NOT match up the same colors, as it’s more efficient to permute the top layer edges and corners and solve the “dots” case (the case where the M slice centers are swapped) by regripping in a certain way and doing E2 M E2 M/M’. It’s very hard to explain this regrip with words, go watch some other videos and you’ll see how to do the regrip.
      -=-=-=-=-=-
      And now, some bonus tips
Bonus tip 1: Wide moves instead of M moves
Typically for all of first block and a little bit of second block, you’re gonna wanna be using r moves instead of M moves whenever possible to be more ergonomically better. You’ll still maybe use 1 or 2 M moves during first block, but try and avoid using them.
      -=-=-
Bonus tip 2: Learning 2 algs for each CMLL case
CMLL has 42 algs in total and about a third to half of them are very easy to learn.
You may be thinking “Why would I want to know multiple algs for the same case?”, but remember: Some CMLL algs will alter the edge orientation for LSE, and you’ll want to avoid the 6 edges miss oriented case for LSE. For each case, you’ll want to know an alg that preserves edge orientation and one that miss orients some edges (because in CMLL you can look at the unsolved edges.)
Some of the algs are pretty long because they’re pulled straight from COLL for CFOP, but a few others just add an M move and a wide move to make it preserve edge orientation, as an example:
      Miss orientation some edges:
      F’ L F L’ U2 L’ U2’ L
      Preserves edge orientation:
      M’ F’ L F L’ U2 L’ U2’ l
Note: It does not matter if edges move from the top layer to the bottom
Overall, great video! I just wanted to add my thoughts and tips for each tip you mentioned, as well as some of my own tips. For more tips, go to the channels in the description of this video, and I hope this helps!

I would suggest M', and this might seem counter intuitive, but it sets up a case that's better for finger tricks
    So it'd be M' U M2 U' - M' U2 M U/'
This is personal preference. The finger tricks work better for me, but it doesn't effect much

Im not a huge fan of your recognition style, because it doesn't give you accurate predictions. Becoming proficient in 4c would be the ability to 1 look it. Cycles are hard, but the dots, bar, and column case are super easy. They all have the yellow/white edges opposite of each other.
      If they're from left to right, it's a column case(M' U2 M2 U2 M')
If they're up and down, is a bar case(U2 M2 U2 M2), these have a cancelation, so normally don't want to match the LR edges
Dots is trickier. If you can spot it before inserting LR edges, you can skip it. The edges are opposite, and go up and down. When you're going to insert, the center and the current edge in the space will not match. If they do, it's a bar case, if they don't dots.
To skip dots you add a U2. So LR edges will be under their respective slot. M' U2 M2 U2 M' U/'
Cycle prediction is a whole new ballgame and requires its own dedicated explanation.

You mentioned that the last four edges recognition that you teach in the video is something that you learned from somewhere else. The original source is my thread on the speedsolving site. The recognition method is now called DFDB, but with an add-on that removes the extra move in the two 3-cycles that start with an M2. The community tends to call this recognition method "J Perm's recognition method" after watching your video, even though you stated that you learned it somewhere else. It might be nice to add a text overlay at that point in the video to provide further clarification.

After that 6 sec average with roux, everyone was giving roux a try but that wasn't the case with me, I didn't really plan to switch to Roux as I'm Not Even Sub 30 with CFOP yet, But For At Least 2 Weeks I Wanted to Learn Roux But I Couldn't Because there are no good resources on YT and I'm Not Patient Enough Watch Those Roux Tutorials Targeted at Beginners which were like an hour long
I had watched your First Vid About Roux About A Month Ago, But Then I Wasn't Really Planning to Learn Roux, It Was About 2 Weeks Ago When I Saw Some Other TH-camr talk about Roux's Efficiency That I Got Interested In Roux, I Watched Your Vid Again But I Couldn't Understand Much As I Don't Have A Lot Of Experience With Cubing, The Main Problem Was That I Was Hesitant To Solve F2B Inefficiently And Thus Never Even Learned Anything After That, I Watched A Couple Of Roux Tutorials But Most of them were Bad, 1 Tutorial I Found Somewhat Useful Was Critical Cubing's But It Was Simply Too Long, I Tried To Learn From It, But It Was More Beginner's Based And I Got Frustrated
After Your "Learn Roux In 10 Minutes" Vid Came Out, I Wouldn't Say It Taught Me Much About F2B(Which was why I didn't start practicing Roux Earlier) But It Gave Me The Idea That It's Okay To Solve It Inefficiently to begin with.
Also, As It was A J Perm Vid, I Watched It Till The End And I got to know how interesting and fun LSE is,
In The 2 Day Gap Between That Vid And This Vid I didn't do a single Timed solve or Cfop slove, I've been trying out Roux And I've Figured Out Most Of The Things You Taught In The Video, Though It Is Still Helpful As I Hadn't Thought Much About LSE Improvement Or X2Y Cn(I Always Put White On Bottom As I'm Pretty Comfortable with it(I'm White Cross Cfop Solver)I Was Just "Y CN" If You Will And Now I'll try that too and every single tip is still helpful as I Hadn't Thought that much about Everything
What I'm Trying To Tell You That There Are A Lot Of People Who Have Benefitted From These 2 Vids, I understand that as you're a cfop user you'll not be able make it a lot of roux vids but I'll Request You To At Least Occasionally make some vids about Roux As I Believe There's Still Stuff Left That Can Be Taught
For Ex:- Before This Vid Came Out, I Was Thinking I Was Pretty Good With F2B but Now I Can Clearly See There Was A Lot I Hadn't Learned
I know that all those people saying things like you switching to Roux Or Making Too Many Roux Vids Discourages You to make more but there are some of your subscribers who want to get into Roux So Please Try To Provide With Helpful Stuff
And I Definitely Think You Can Read My Mind Because The Day Just Previous To Your Roux Tutorial I Was Thinking "Man, How Helpful It Would If J Perm Were To Make Some Vids About Roux" As I'm Just Too Dumb To Be Able To Learn From Any Other Vids
For Ex:- Critical Cubing Makes Very Good Vids But The Way He Shows His Cube To The Camera Makes It Harder To Understand, You Seem Like A Very Smart TH-camr To Me

You probably should've taught an actual 4c method (DFDB or BU, both have much easier guides to find, and are more efficient and still pauseless), instead of something you literally stated is outdated and you hadn't confirmed whether it was good. (It's not)

You don't have to solve the UL/UR edges youcan solve the UF and UB edges if it's easier or faster
Edit: But the recognition is harder

While solving last 4 edges, you can just keep track of the edge which will go to the BU stop before doing the M2 move . It will reduce the 2 extra moves and would reduce the recognition pause

To answer both of your comments: roux is highly intuitive but takes less turns so cfop is better for tps but if you can achieve a similar tps with roux (which is hard because it's not muscle memory) it's theoretically better. If you're good with cfop roux is still worth learning because itll teach you certain strategies for the intuitive parts of cfop but once you've memorized most of cfop I suggest sticking with it as your main method unless you notice a significant difference with roux
