    The way you deep condition your hair is just as important as what product you choose to deep condition your hair with. This video is to show the dramatic impact that deep conditioning WITH HEAT every week had on my hair in just 1 year. The way I deep conditioned my hair completely changed my hair in every aspect as far as the texture, the way my hair sat, the way it absorbed and retained moisture, curl definition, shine, etc and it's almost as if I have a brand new set of hair on my head. This video shows a timeline of how my hair has changed month by month in just 1 year.

      Really? Because I've been natural for approximately 6 years now maybe 5 I'm not really sure, but my hair was really curly up until a few weeks ago. After I took out my protective style, my hair seems more wavy than curly and it's freaking me out because I want my curls not waves. And it's not due to heat damage because I don't flat iron my hair or use heat unless it's for my deep conditioner. A hair lady told me to do a protein treatment and I did yesterday. I hope it helps

    • @BananasForSale
      @BananasForSale 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Lone Wolf I think that as your hair gets longer there’s more weight to it so it will end up loosening up regardless but I heard protein treatments are good at maintaining a defined curl pattern, how was your protein treatment?

    • @lonewolf7379
      @lonewolf7379 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BananasForSale I did the treatment and I saw a little bit of difference. But there's still more waves than curls or the ends are curly and in the middle it's wavy. I also had my ends trimmed which made a slight difference. But my hair is really frizzy and poofy. I think it's the hair product I'm using rn

    • @BananasForSale
      @BananasForSale 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lone Wolf if your hair was not frizzy and poofy before the treatment just be careful with protein because protein treatments can cause things like that especially if you’re protein sensitive

    This is so true. This is exactly what happened to my hair after I started using a hooded dryer or my microwaveable heating cap, although the dryer seems to work better. Your hair and wash and gos will change for the better once you have that moisture going in. I even had my hair taking the shape of my bonnet and staying that way as well. Now my hair just falls down out of my bonnet and it doesn't shrink as much and lays so much better so I can attest to how true the info in this video is.

    If your hair was high porosity then it would have been absorbing moisture this whole time. What you describe is low porosity -- the cuticles were not lifting to let in moisture. Most naturals with low porosity hair suggest using heat with deep conditioning (or even warming up products a bit) to combat this.

    @saroyafanniel8932 6 ปีที่แล้ว +117

    VERY IMPORTANT TIP: I think you have it backwards. Porosity is about how much moisture your hair retains; not loses. You obviously have LOW porosity hair: cuticles that lay flat and are closed so moisture will not escape from it as readily. *Yet the flip side to that is the hair doesn't let it in as easily either* . That's why you had no results after all that time - the moisture couldn't get past your cuticles. You need heat to loosen and open them up then once conditioned the moisture will stay in for a long time. Deep conditioning with heat isn't necessary for those with HIGH porosity or even some of those with thin hair shafts (it could weigh thinner hair down). High porosity hair doesn't need to use heat because the cuticles are already open -- some even have short cuticles that don't cover one another - so they need to have theirs *closed after conditioning* so the moisture is retained. So that's why using cool water rinsing air after conditioning, and cool air setting on the dryer or blow dryer, after DEEP conditioning, works best for HIGH porosity hair.

      Do you suggest high porosity hair shouldn’t use a head dryer to deep condition? Or what about just a plastic cap/bag? Or plastic cap and head dryer together ? What you think?

    • @iamBriii
      @iamBriii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sakariyasmine4014 Personally, I have low porosity 4C hair so I have to use a heating cap/hooded dryer/blow dryer when I deep condition but I wouldn’t think that high porosity people have to use those things since their hair lets in moisture easily. As the op said, the cuticles of high porosity people need to be closed after deep conditioning to retain the moisture by using cool air/water...so yeah I don’t think a high porosity person would have to use those things

    It's funny to see this video, because I was just prepping to deep condition with heat, because I've been having the same problem that you had - dry, crispy hair, constant frizziness, wash and gos / twists outs only last one day, having to get my hair wet everyday - but getting it wet just makes it drier, crispier and more shrunken, etc. So I just thought to myself that maybe I need to start DCing with heat again. And there your video was. Let's hope it works.

    Wow! I have curly and it was behaving exactly like yours but about 50 times worse! I missed a lot of outings for the past 3 years of my natural journey because my hair looked so awful. It was dry and stiff and would not even blow in the wind! I deep conditioned with heat for the first time last week and it totally changed my hair for the better. After just ONCE my hair is moisturized and the shrinkage is very minimal. Will continue to use this method! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! My hair life has changed!!

    Your hair 'behaved' like 4C because that's the way you were 'treating it' (but you are a 4!). Your hair didn't CHANGE per say but rather you actually brought out the true pattern of your hair by WORKING with it! I am 4C (hard to distinguish curl pattern sister) and have to work at bringing my pattern to light, but you weren't even really doing that much so it RESEMBLED 4C because obviously that is where it will go if you don't CARE FOR IT. Good to know. Good video.

    My hair did the SAME thing. I wish I could post pictures. My hair changed soooo much just from co-washing. It looked like my texture changed, but I really believe it was just holding more moisture. Therefore, it was shiny, and the wash-n-go's got to the point where I didn't even need gel. I only used conditioner. My hair grew to bra strap length (curly) with wash n gos ONLY. I cut it two years ago :( and am growing it back out. But you are SO CORRECT!!!!

  • @ForNaturalBeauty

    I use to just condition my hair and get under the dryer for about 5-10 minutes. I did not notice anything different with my hair and my hair was still dry after I rinsed out the conditioner in cold water. The process kept my hair looking and feeling dry. Last year I made some changes. I started to deep conditioned my hair every time I washed it and I stay under the dryer for about 20-30 minutes. I rinse my hair out in warm water and notice my hair felt soft and moisturized. I also, incorporated oiling my scalp with Sulfur 8. I no longer have flakes and my scalp does not itch. My hair feels and looks healthy, it has grew and gotten fuller. I am so happy that I found what works for my hair. I notice my wash and goes doesn't shrink as much as well. My hair texture is 4c.

      Thank you for this video. I too have low porosity hair and had the same problem you had. For the past 2 weeks I have deep conditioned my hair with steam and can already see the amazing results. I am shocked at how moisturized my hair is now and I've only done it twice. I used to have to apply oil every 2-3 days, but now it's only necessary on wash days which is once a week and I only use one oil now. You are right. The curls are much more loose, defined and softer. Again, thank you for sharing!

    We have the same hair type...not that i'm into hair typing but just to say it looks exactly how yours looks, so awesome! I found a "hair twin". Great video.Deep conditioning every week for me though is just such a drag. So to get that look I put a heavy dose of some type of leave-in conditioner and it looks just like that pic from your afters. The conditioner gives it a nice weight, body, flow, movement and of course moisture. Also, I think a major component in healthily moisturized hair is our diet and including healthy oily natural foods like avocados, nuts, olives and flax seed make such a great difference! Take care now. I enjoyed your video!

    Look like I need to spend more on my deep condition and use a hooded dryer not cap. 🤔 ok I'm willing to do that no more than $20 dollar tho. It really make sense when you think about it. All these cheap ones don't have beneficial ingredients in the top 5 or 10 ingredient like the real good ones.

  • @fefey2202

    I have to disagree. When I was new to all this natural stuff, I would beleive whatever youtubers would tell me. So I thought i HAD to use heat while conditionning. I would even warm my DC before using it and stay Under a hooded dryer for half an hour, for months. There was absolutely no change. Zero. A few months ago i went to a natural hair salon to see a curl expert, and she told me I really didn't need heat bc my hair is higly porous and would absorb products very easily. Putting a plastic cap for 10-15 mins would be enough. She even told me I didn't need to deep condition every week, only once in a month, more than that was a waste. Everyone's hair is different. We do not all need to deep condition often and we do not all need to use heat. Great video tho

      Kanny I agree with you. My stylist tells me to use as little heat as possible on my hair as it is very fine. She deep conditions it once a month with heat. I condition it after every wash without heat. My body generates enough heat (while my hair is under a plastic cap for an hour). If I want to turn it up, I take a shower.

    I can relate! My hair is extremely dry , products, moisture evaporates in 2 seconds. I've deep conditioned without heat. I will try with . They keep on say heat is not good so I have abstained. I'm still in the struggle with products especially when I combine products. I would see white dots every where on application. So far gels like Eco damages my hair. I'm definitely Hi -Po . Products for Black hair / Black mixed hair are too expensive but what to do?!! I Pay close attention to ingredients. If I see sulfates, I'm not using it. I buy aloe Vera plants and condition my hair sometimes. I have gotten frustrated because I do my hair today, everything is all dried up and puffy and shrinkage is a major issue. I hate my hair short so Im back to ponytails and slicking down. I need to get back some confidence so my hair can breathe and be free. But finding right products that seal in moisture and last is a struggle.If I could only mix products even in the same line and use for example a leave -in, moisturizer then gel without seeing white, I would be ok. Thanks for video.

      For anyone reading this comment: there’s a test you can do to know if products may react badly to gel. Just run them together in your hands. If it forms those balls in your hands it’s going to do that in your hair. Hair mills seem to work better with gels. Finally Amber has a video about it.

    I'm so happy I found someone with my same exact hair texture 3b/3c/4a/4b!!! It gets so hard to deal with all these damn textures because you have to cater to them differently. Like I have a little bit 4b hair at the crown of my head, so that part is always shorter then the rest because of breakage. And the area right at the top of my head I have loose 3b curls, that gets really frizzy. Then all around the perimeter of my hairline, I have fine 3c hair. And for the rest of my head I have 4a hair. It's a fucking mess tbh but I'm having the EXACT same issues as you were. I even have a hooded dryer, im just so lazy when it comes to getting out the shower and going back in to rinse it out 😭. I'll definitely give the hooded dryer method a try.

    You could also change the way you're washing your hair. If you normally shampoo your hair once then add conditioner. You could also try shampooing twice then adding conditioner to make sure there is no buildup. You should also pay attention to the temperature of the water you use to wash your hair. Hot/warm water is to open your cuticle and allow moisture in. Cold water is to seal. Make sure after washing you always run your hair in cold water to lock everything in.

    Thank you so much, I definitely will try this . I wondered why my hair is always up after I deep conditioned my natural hair. All I did was just apply the deep conditioner and after a few minutes I wash it out. So, I thank you for sharing.

    My hair is the same way! My hair appears curlier since I started deep conditioning every week. It's softer and it hangs more. Your hair is beautiful! 👌🏾

    Your 'before' texture is equally beautiful. I personally don't want to use heat to change my hair texture to looser type 3 curls. nice video

    I want to really thank you for this video. I have watched probably HUNDREDS of videos over the years about how to care for/manage natural hair and am currently on my 3rd big chop. The first 2 big chops I gave up b/c I could never get the defined curls (without gobs of Eco Styler) and softness I was looking for. This video, the Favorite Deep Conditioner videos and your Deep Condition Routine video easily brought about the results I was looking for. I am fully confident that I can and will succeed in my journey this go round. Anyone on the fence, give it a try. I did it right before I big chop and you could CLEARLY see the curls/volume/softness against the relaxed hair. That's why I went ahead and cut it. I was planning to go another year, but now I don't have to. Liking and subbing! Thank you, thank you, thank you again!

    Thanks so much for this video. I have been deep conditioning but do not use heat and haven't had the results I was looking for. From now on Im doing the heat! Thankyou.

    I'm going to start deep conditioning next wash day now! Thank you 😊 I don't have a sit-under hair dryer but I'm going to use a plastic cap and blow dryer and see what happens. I always feel like my hair is dry and needing a bit more moisture.

    I love it! Very informative video. May I add also, that if you now add a few spoons of baking soda to your deep condition (let it rest for 5 minutes before applying) your hair will be even more different. I don't go under the dryer with it because it still does the job. I've been natural for 7 years and the first 2 years I couldn't do a wash and go because of the shrinkage. Now my curls don't shrink as much and are %90 more defined without gel. I don't use as much product as I did before and still get amazing results. I also do "Bentonite clay" mask which does almost the same in my opinion, but it's just a bit more expensive and difficult to find locally. Blessings and keep up the good work gorgeous. Thank you for your vídeos 💕

      So your curls are now more elongated and defined simply because of deep conditioning with baking soda and the occasional clay mask?

    Very useful make sense. I am Dominican and usually at the hair salon they make us stay in the dryer with treatment for about 30 mins. Make sense. Thanks 🙏🏽

    This video is SOOOOOOOOO important. Thank you girl...You helped me make sense out of what's going on... I can't seem to grow my hair past my shoulders and I am going to incorporate hooded deep conditioning into my regimen.
