Thanks so much y'all 💜💜 this video is getting so much love and I was def not expecting it! My intention for this video was to share the information that helped me make better choices and to direct ppl to it when they asked me for help.. I didn't think ppl would be actively seeking the information bc I was under the impression that ppl were just so fixated on what their curls look like, I'm so glad to be wrong and see ppl are trying to actually understand their curls! For those of you asking how to identify which applies to your texture and what products, please refer to the links I referenced in the video (in the description box) and check out my channel for reviews (I included relevant clickable links in the video as well). Thanks for the support and allowing me to inspire y'all 😩😭🙌🏾
nikki johnson thank you! Keep preaching the hair gospel! Ppl are listening! Thank you for taking the time to educate your clients as well. A lot of stylists don't and I won't sit the chair of someone who doesn't prioritize their clients health!
Daye La Soul thank you so much because this is the question I have been asking for so long since following all these natural hair Journeys. I always wondered that's your curl pattern really have anything to do with how your hair grows how your hair prevent breakage, what products you can use to help your hair become more healthy Etc. but you have opened my eyes to a lot more things that I should be working on understanding about my hair in order to have healthy hair. thank you for showing how insignificant of curl pattern is. because you're so real I had to subscribe thank you
Elease Fuller same. The back of my hair being the loosest curl. It's a pain in the butt to have to deal with three different textures but I'm learning how to deal with it.
I have several myself, and figuring out how to wash and go seemed impossible! But I got 😅.. I'm hearing ppl say now that they have multiple porosities, I don't even know how they're about to manage that! 😰
Shifter A Ma’am I started the video as soon as the video started and talked the entire 11 minutes. It was important and relevant to discuss the misconceptions about Curl patterns so ppl can understand why the majority of the video is about porosity, strand size, and density instead of the shape of the curl... So in 11 minutes, a person can get the truth about curl patterns, and learn their texture and get tips on how to use their products and develop a routine accordingly-when it takes years to learn that for some-that is efficient... And you sound like a hater. Scrolled all the way thru these comments just to find something negative to say and are dead wrong. GTFOH
Daye La Soul I agree and I thank u so much because I could not figure it out and been doing research. U really help me. I have high porosity low density and fine size so I struggle alot😭 thankyou sis😘👌🏽
@@DayeLaSoul I appreciate that you did that as well. For me, I only "type" my hair as a way to describe my general natural curls patterns (plural because we all have more than one)...but I also always include my porosity and width when talking about my hair because to me it is all important information when discussing haircare. I find a lot of people forget about the fact that the typing system isn't set in stone, like you might have 4b/4c medium porosity hair today, but then you bleach it platinum blonde tomorrow and you end up with 4a/4b high porosity hair. All it matters for, in my opinion, is to describe the current state of your hair.
I agree. I’ve been a cosmetologist for 15 years and allot of things Daye La Soul mentioned was actually taught in cosmetology school. I remember when this chart was introduced to us in various continued education classes and hair shows and I get why some may want to make distinctions but I think It’s best if we keep it simple so that people learn to understand there hair and what it needs.
Okay. So.... *inhale* I've been natural my whole life. Never had a relaxer or a weave, rarely got it braided. So when natural hair folks started promoting this curl typing thing I was like "whut?" because I didn't understand. I also didn't think it mattered because it felt like another way to divide us. People spent years asking me about my curl type, regimen, what I use, etc. And I always gave a generic answer about density and porosity. They didn't listen bc they wanted a fluffy answer about products and methods. I felt uncomfortable because I sounded bitchy and didn't mean to. YOU. ARE. EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. EVERYTHING. OMG. I don't really watch Natural hair TH-cam channels for advice bc it all sounds the same. YOU? Wonderful. Nicely done.
✍🏾high porosity: sealing is extremely important (LOC method). ✍🏾 Medium Density: lighter product. ✍🏾Fine strand size: prone to damage/protein treatment. Dont mind me just taking notes🥰
People keep saying that 4c hair has no curl pattern im like😑 if it has no curl pattern ITS STRAIGHT. Some people with 4c hair attack 4c youtubers because they see curls smh
Cathy Marie You are so right! And it's so versatile! I love the variety of styles we can have. Regardless of how frustrated I've become with my hair, and how "tired of it" I get, and how much I've dreaded wash day, I have never considered going back to perms because in my mind I don't want to give up the variety and health of my hair.
I hate when people ask curl pattern and someone tell them like ohh 4b and their like NO your a 3c like why df did you ask if your just going to tell them about THEIR hair.
I am a license cosmetologist and I completely agree, I'm not sure who started that chart but it certainly wasn't a professional. it's a joke and you are 100% accurate. this video just made my day!
+Shena Shoemaker Andre Walker started it. He's a celebrity stylist and come out with a hair line of course... marketing genius!.. thanks for watching 💜
+Kufre Akpan any texture can be straightened with a flat iron (reference 0:44 of the picture in the video where they're all beautifully straightened ), so what's true? This stigma against kinky textures have to go and it's a direct result of us still holding on to European standards of beauty. "4C" hair can be just as versatile, healthy, long, and manageable as any other texture, it's also not unique to struggle. We literally beat down and confine that Afro textured hair like there arent naturals with a looser "type 3" textures who also combat frizz, shrinkage/reverting? breakage, dryness and issues with finding products. 😒
I think hair typing is only a problem when people idolize loose/defined curls over kinks/coils/tight curls its like colorism but with hair...I think of it as just like another classification to help you better find ways to manage your hair I've had better experience looking to people with my type 4 hair and a different porosity level than someone with type 3 hair and my porosity level or some other instance
I still don't know my hair type, I just know I did my first wash and go after letting go of those ends, and I had curls (literally to my surprise!) hair type never really helped me getting here, so I'm just proud that I've kept my hair curly and it's like meeting a new hair all though I've had it all my life!!
v r yeah I use it to understand how to take care of my hair, I think b4 naturals became mainstream people needed it to explain the diff between our hair and white peoples so people can stop saying kinky hair is bad hair, it’s still an up hill battle
Girl!! This is the first time that Ive actually understood the density, porosity and strand size conversation. Maybe Im slow but I want you thank you for the explanation.
Of all the youtube videos I've watched, which feels like millions, yours is the one that resonates the most. THANK YOU for pointing out the pointlessness of hair typing. After 5 years natural I still don't know my hair type because no matter how long I stare at those photos and squiggly lines supposedly describing hair, I still can't tell what mine is! One minute I'm sure I'm 4b/4c and the next I'm positive I'm 4b/4a. I've wasted so much time trying to figure it out and I just no longer want to waste my time. THANK YOU for being so clear with your explanations of porosity, density and strand size, and how they determine which types and order of products you should use along with HOW MUCH because I agree that these are the actual valuable pieces of info versus hair type. It took me literally years to understand why my styles never turned out like the youtubers' styles, no matter how exactly I followed their instructions. The day I finally realized I have thin hair (as in less dense), it was like the angels sang because I knew once and for all why my hair never looked as thick and full as other people's - because I simply don't have their density! It made me understand my hair much better and I wish I knew all this a long time ago. The mass majority of youtubers have highly dense hair and I really wish we "thin" ladies had more representation.
Aww thank you! I was so worried that this wouldn't come out clear because it is so much information and I was determined to keep it around 10 minutes! I hope this helps you on the right direction. Some low density bloggers: Jazinesscurls, MissCharmsie, mycandishoppe. Try typing in low density, thin or fine natural hair in the search box. They're under represented, but def here!
You are the most slept on blogger !!! I have learned so much just by watching your videos and following you on social media ! I really appreciate you love ! 😍💋
AYEEE I get it! it's like when people only focus on amount of calories food has as a pose to looking at the nutrition value, sodium, trans fats, and sugar that actually affect you.
I've been asked so much about what hair type I am and I've never been able to answer that because I never understood what they meant. Comparing my hair to numbers and letters is just confusing especially when my hair looks like its mixed with everything 😂
I'm over 50 and have had a perm since birth! I'm 6 months in with 4Z whatever the nappy Esssss hair is. I have permed ends but trust me when I say that I'm determined to do this on EVERYTHING that I luv due to my WHITE Dr telling me that my fibroids were due to permed hair! Yess did you hear ME?
princessZ44 I was told that if I wanted a Nobel prize, figure out why women get fibroids. My doctor said they DO NOT have the answer to that mystery, but they were only common in Black Women more that White.
Crystal Bell it's in the food or drink that is causing these fibroids. A lot of black women are getting hysterectomies at a high rate. It has to be the food.
Two year old video and still relevant. I'm going from locs to loose natural and have been looking at natural hair TH-cam vids for two days. Its baffling how divisive this typing thing is and how people get so contentious about it. Your straightforwardness is refreshing.
Why am I just coming across your TH-cam? You are so knowledgeable and I agree with you on all the things that you've said. I can't stress it enough. Too many obsessed with having looser natural hair.
yesss girl thank you...I just started taking care of my hair, and getting to know my hair is hard but the more products I try I see the progress , my hair is changing . more soft and manageable
I just found this out a few days ago from another persons TH-cam. I bought some Shea moisture manuka honey & mafura oil hair masque and tried it with olive oil warmed up. I'm sitting with my cap on now, hope this works Lol How long would either of you say to deep condition for low porosity hair?
Omg your rant about the texture and hair charts gave me so much life. Healthy hair is what matters!!!! Let me continue watching because I got your back if people try you.
Honestly, this is the first video to give me the most helpful insight for my hair. I have been natural for 6 years now and nothing seemed to be working. My hair was struggling so much so I big chopped this past February. I'm sort of "redoing" my natural hair journey and I want to thank you for making this video. It's extremely helpful and beneficial.
This video really helped me. I am going through my journey of transitioning from perm to natural hair. And this video is guided me on learning more about my hair and how to take care of my new natural hair. Thank you so much for this video.
I posted that some naturals were OBSESSED with hair typing on Uluvmegz big chop video and some chick said that wasn't true. I'm glad I'm not alone saying this! Js! It is what it is!
+GlamNP lmbo she's in denial! I get asked EVERYDAY what's my hair type and if you scroll on any blog/blogger page ppl constantly ask that question! Like you said, it is what it is!
Black and Proud Annettemint has really thick hair too. But another thing is length discrimination. How long have you been natural? Blogger answers 3 years, God forbid she had 5 inches or less! They start to go in on the person! Or dragging people for having a relaxer. People really need to stay out of folks scalps! That's why I am not apart of the natural community, I am just chemical free.
LOL and here you go! Why do you continue to watch me if you do not like what I have to say! I have thick hair. Period. It's not up for debate. You have no idea how thick it is seeing as how you've never dealt with it, nor have you see it without manipulation. I never claimed to have the thickest hair in the world but my hair is thick and once again I am not trying to compete in this IMAGINARY COMPETION IN YOUR CRAZY ASS HEAD. I never reference anyone else hair but my own. You really need to check your insecurities mama. You're always concerned about what every one else has and what everyone else is doing.. WHAT ARE YOU DOING BESIDE CLOCKING MY EVERY MOVE AND WORD??? WHY ARE YOU SO CONCERNED ABOUT MY HAIR? You're sad AF...
Let's just take a moment to say how amazing the content of this video is and how straight forward and engaging your energy is. I am a fan ♥️ Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
Thank you for sharing your perspective on ethnic hair types! Porosity is the key! My hair thanks you! 😊 Since watching your video a few times, I truly understand my own hair better! Thus, now I have true direction and understanding on how to care for my hair! Took me 51 years to wait for your video here and get the help and understanding I needed. Blessings! ❤
Girl you did a great job on this video. I agree with you 100%, I am a licensed cosmetologist and you know more about texture, porosity, density, and curl patterns than most licensed professionals. Go ahead girl!
Thank you for this video! I recently stumbled across the natural hair movement while trying to find products and routines that would work best for my curls. I'm 23 and learning about my hair has been a life-long process so far. Now I'm pretty sure that I have high porosity hair, which explains why it seems to dry out so fast even though I feel like I've moisturized it a ton.
Daye La Soul No Prob! I actually just released a new series on my channel called Kurl talk with Koby and so I'll be making videos like this one and so this added another perspective to some of the topics I will be talking about😁🙌🏾
Thanks for posting this video! I have thick density, mostly 3a/ a few 3b curls, with fine strands, and I've had a ton of trouble finding products that don't dry my hair out. I use Curl Creme Brulee whipped curl cream for my hair and I love it! love that you're educating people about this stuff, it's so important!
I loved how u broke down the different factors in determining hair type, hair management, and order of product application. I do have a question about the LOC acronym. Is the L for Leave In Conditioner considered the Moisture? The O for Oil considered the Seal? The C for Cream considered the Moisture?
I finally found your video again. I watched this a few years ago. I thought I saved it but apparently not. I appreciate that you didn't let being unlicensed stop you from sharing. I agree with not focusing on typing. My hair is a mix of 4a, 4b and 4c. When my hair is wet it's 4a if I let it air dry it's 4b if I blow dry it it's 4c. It may sound impossible but it's true. But knowing I need the L O C method has been life changing. Also Over the years I've learned that my leave-in needs to be a liquid because my hair absorbs it MUCH better. #BlackHairLoveForever!
My hair: High Porosity(Dry as Hell), High Density(Crazy Thick), Strand Size (Course), Curl Pattern is 3B Curly (Always frizzy). That's why my hair is always in a bun. I can't get it to stick to a style. I put stuff on it. Dry within an hour or less, frizzy the remainder of the day. Hopefully this search on hair help will help me. Thank you.
Lmbo @ “no natural chick ever shows her hair after 5 hours”-you don’t see naturals walking around every day?.. If you never seen one after 5 hours, check any of my talking videos or a haul where I have my from out... You’ll see any where for 24 to 100+ hours later... even gotta 10 day curl on here😂
Thank you so much for this video! I am a mother to a biracial daughter. I have spent countless hours searching for the best hair routines as well as hours and so many dollars trying new products blindly. I am so grateful to finally have a breakdown of the variables in this equation for how to best care for her beautiful curls. I finally feel like I have direction and a better understanding as to what is right for her as opposed to what is right for other people who may or may not have the same kind of hair. Thank you thank you thank you!!!
Krystina Martinez aww people like u make me so happy😢 u care about ur daughters hair and please dont let her forget her roots and tell her you are beautiful every day, teach her to love herself ❤️
I also don't mind the typing system. I know I am 2c, 3a on a good styling day, but I use any kind of product on my hair. I have hip to butt length hair (depending on in which growth fase I am) and I typically need very moisturizing conditioners. I also do oil rinses and use the LOC/LCO method on my hair. It works for me!
I use the Hello Hydration by Herbal Essences, since that is geared towards dry, damaged hair. I typically use conditioners geared towards dry, damaged hair as those are typically the most moisturizing on the market - you don't have to go expensive for that!
Marleen G. Hello Hydration has been my staple for 4 Years! I think I'm officially married to it. It's affordable, great for naturals, I'm type 4, and works well with my oils. Definitely moisturizing but light enough not to be considered a deep conditioner so I use it very often for my co-washes .
Jesus lawd, where TF have you been my whole life with this video?! The struggle has been so real for me since starting my natural hair journey to figure out my hair "type". As I do not fall into any of those hair categories, I couldn't find what kind of hair I have. Then I find this video which has given me so much damn life! Knowledge of porosity, density, texture, etc... has not only answered my questions and provided a clear way for me to find the proper products for my hair. Since seeing this video, I've learned my hair porosity, density and texture and have adapted my hair routine accordingly. The growth in just a month a half is nuts!!!!!! Thank you!
I have been a partial natural girl for three years. This video just changed my life. I always felt so much shame trying to talk about my natural hair because it’s not like anyone else’s and that chart just makes you feel weird. You really broke it all the way down and I am so informed now. I have been trying everything to make it look like something and now I am excited to see what I can do to it now that I have real information. Thank you so much.
Wow. You just helped me so much. I've been to so many different channels trying to get an understanding of porosity and density. FINALLY i say. You a real one. I just subscribed. I feel welcome already. Much love.
Thank YOU Thank YOU Thank YOU!!!! I am the father of three young black women and I now have more knowledge and vocabulary that will aid me in havng real discussion with them and understand more thoroughly their concerns.
Thank you for breaking it down. I have literally been in a struggle with my hair lately and my daughter's hair has different hair than I, although she is also mixed, and this has helped me figure out what I've been doing wrong!
I've been natural for 6 years now and this was the most accurate, on-point video I've seen on natural hair texture/curl patterns! I hate the curl typing system too because I have 3 different patterns. I've never been able to figure out if I have high or low porosity hair and your video helped me realize I have high porosity, fine hair! Which makes soooo much sense! Thank you, love!!
I love that someone finally said this because my texture is all over the place. I never know what to do with my hair because it doesn't fit into the "one size fits all" box.
when I first went natural I was caught up on curl type and pattern. trying to find product to bring out the curls....then... I learnt about porosity and that mines was high and when I started doing things for my hair and not to it, I ended with totally different results. it holds oil and curls better. so I agree with not getting caught up on types and patterns. it will turn you into a product junkie when really you only need very few products to maintain your hair
Edwina Baldwin This totally happened to me! I wasted SO much money, and time researching and trying BS products.... only for two of them to be useful to my hair 😩
sweet2def Girl and that stuff ain't cheap!! Like you I only use two products and they work great. I even make my own deep conditioner and hot oil treatments.
Your message was very helpful. You provided such thorough basic information that allowed other information to make sense and more important to realize what was missing and just off. Thank you for being so thorough and keeping in real. Rich blessings for your work.
When one of your fav natural hair vloggers is exuding with passion & knowledge! You can just tell your love for not only your hair but our natural community as a whole and the importance of not going with all these fads, not just that but really taking the time to do your research! You're beyond appreciated! #oneoftheGOAT#youdarealMVP #sogladifoundyou #someonesgottakeepitreal #stayblk&proud ✊🏾🖤
Your video came across so I said let's check it out, and omg love the video. I'm so sick of black women typing themselves, good hair, nappy hair, long hair, curly hair, etc. I get headache crossing videos 'look at how my hair grew" "oh my 3c hair", "my hair is strength yaw", uuggg it's so sicking to me. Women don't even know all this come from the masses whom have told us we have bad hair, including some black men. We do anything to make our hair seem better than just black hair. Anyway love your video, it's real.
Hi Daye! I MUST thank you for your guidance, support and advice. You are helping me to understand my hair as I embark on my natural hair journey(since May 2017). Information you've given about porosity, density and coarseness has been critical in selecting hair care products and tools. Since following you and using Curly Girls products, I have thrown out it given, every other hair care product I had. I have washed my hair 4 times with Curly Girls and have noticed that my hair us more manageable. The flat detangle brush ( I use the one by Goody), is like MAGIC. You are professional and you really care. Thank you and God bless you Daye.
This video has changed my whole natural hair life around, my hair has done a 360. I've been so informed and got to know my hair in a completely different way. Thank you
This is super helpful love! Thanks for the info. I don't even care what my hair type is I just wanna figure out my hair and what works for it so I can get the results I want.
+Meet The Chambers lmbo in hear that! That's exactly how I felt.. I was like "ok I can see the curls but wth do I do with them?!".. thanks for watching!
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU for putting it ALL out there for people to understand. I've been natural going on 6 years and I still did not fully understand why my hair is breaking, not growing, EXTRA dry, will not hold moisture, products work differently when I travel, etc... and your 11min video just summed up the problem. So thank you so very much!!!
i remember asking you your hair type and you told me what your hair porosity was. im like what is that but too embarrassed to ask. lol . ut if you never mentioned that i would be finding out later what it is. and im glad i did. and now i understand why certain prouducts i use on my moms hair and mine just all or mostly dont walk for my babygirl. so im learning more about our hair, mistakes will happen. but growing up and having such beautiful hair is to let it be and cornrow one a week to refresh and moisturize it. laving in NEw York with diffrent season and a whole lot of money just to have someone do one's hair makes it a bit hard to maintain. but its getting easier. thanks for your videos and thanks for sharing knowledge. i dont trust most products anyway because they are all in it for a profit
+Morenike Kokumo so glad it helped!! If you noticed, a lot of stuff only channel is lightweight but concentrated, I've found that's perfect for my fine strands and density! Just gotta find what works for you. Thanks for watching 😘
I have low porosity and I have to do the same method which is leave in cream or custard then oil and that works perfectly for me!! I really like how you explained porosity cause it works for me and I’ve been doing that for years!!
That was a great. I’m learning my natural hair more and more everyday. When I was coming up in the 70’s and 80’s it was so hard lol. I’m so happy there are so many products for our hair. And so many women like yourself that encourage natural hair. ITS AWESOME
We have the exact same hair style but not texture .I agree who cares about hair types . Everyone's hair is totally different . Keep up the good video's !! thank you so much for clearing this up !!
girl the first 5 minutes of the video blessed me. I feel so blessed listening to this trying to type my hair and buying products that don't even work. I just want to say thank you for that.
When i have shorter hair around chin length and o add tons of moisture like a ton i have 3b hair sometimes even 3c when my hair gets longer(boob length) i have to add a ton of less product and its around a 2c-3a and it gets weighted down really easily and my hair never forms ringlets only individual strands of curly hair its weird. Hair is weird but astonishingly beautiful! ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely love this video and this information you gave. You went into detail about every topic and kept it real from start to finish!!! not just telling us what we want to hear because it sounds good. #SUBSCRIBED🙌🏽 notifications are turned on ☺️
This video has brought so much clarity and wisdom. It totally makes sense to me. And is a great guide to understanding what key ingredients to search for in my hair products. And thank you also for your transparency. Learning your hair and keeping up with its needs change as your hair improves or declines, so we are bound to make mistakes along the way. You're awesome blossom 🌸
I have no clue what my curl pattern or none of that is. My hair is a mix of wanting to be European, but then the other hairs are like, "Nah, we black." 😭
I am a 33-year-old woman and I am JUST finding out how to take care of my hair. This video has helped me so much with understanding what steps I need to take to better care for my hair as well as my daughter! Thank you so much
Sounds like a normal type 2. I think hair rules or brad mondo did a video on this. The roots stay straight from the weight of the hair, so the natural curl pattern becomes more revealing as you go down the strand. Feel free to search those channels, but it doesn’t sound like anything is wrong from this statement alone.
Duh It’s kiesha Not always. I thought mine was heat or color damage but the front of my head was still wavy after a big chop. It’s wavy in the front and gets tighter and more curlier as it goes back to my nape.
Great video. I never thought of my hair density...if I am right😞 I know I have fine strands, low porosity, but I believe to it is dense. I will watch again to try to understand more. Thanks!
I started transitioning 2010, with cutting my hair. I was so baffled that my hair was constantly shedding, and why I still have (which I thought ) 'perm strands'. It was only when I came across you IG page and TH-cam channel, that it was wasn't the shampoo I was using.... it was the excessive amount of heat putting into my hair while transitioning. Since watching your videos and being 'hair-ducated' lol, I've took a break from straightening my hair, air drying my hair every wash day, and using the Q-redew! It's been four months and I'm starting to see my curl pattern as well! My hair is short and paper thin, but at the same time, I'm noticing thickness in my roots. THANK GOD FOR YOU!!
I'm transitioning after 42 years of relaxers. Don't know what my hair is like, don't know the curl, don't know the thickness, don't know the porosity. I DO KNOW my strands are thick.
100% agree with you on the hair typing. When I was first natural I remember thinking the type was the most important thing but as I researched I found my porosity was low & realized I was using ALL the wrong stuff lol. I just think most of us have 2-3 different type of curls in our head & digging deeper into the technicals of our hair is so much more important than stressing over the look.
Daye La Soul 😏😂😂😂😂💀 I absolutely love your perm rod sets😻😻 I want to try it and I'm so nervous. On the other hand keep up the good work I love it 😍😍😍😍😄😘
Emily I agree. I'm caucasian as well but I love learning about all hair types. I know I have a mix of 2b/2c/3a on my head, medium strand thickness, medium density. I have just been guessing at my porosity and didn't really test it because despite reading and hearing it's important, I'm stubborn. This video helped me better understand why porosity is so important and I need to do a stand test already lol
Thanks for the support and allowing me to inspire y'all 😩😭🙌🏾
Daye La Soul ..I am a licensed cosmetologist..and I have been preaching this versus worrying about a curl pattern...shout out to you!!
nikki johnson thank you! Keep preaching the hair gospel! Ppl are listening! Thank you for taking the time to educate your clients as well. A lot of stylists don't and I won't sit the chair of someone who doesn't prioritize their clients health!
Good job 💯
Daye La Soul thank you so much because this is the question I have been asking for so long since following all these natural hair Journeys. I always wondered that's your curl pattern really have anything to do with how your hair grows how your hair prevent breakage, what products you can use to help your hair become more healthy Etc. but you have opened my eyes to a lot more things that I should be working on understanding about my hair in order to have healthy hair. thank you for showing how insignificant of curl pattern is. because you're so real I had to subscribe thank you
Thank you!
Hair typing is crazy to me. I have like 3 different textures and patterns in my hair.
Elease Fuller right
Elease Fuller same. The back of my hair being the loosest curl. It's a pain in the butt to have to deal with three different textures but I'm learning how to deal with it.
You are so right. My hair doesn't look like any of these textures or patterns.
I have several myself, and figuring out how to wash and go seemed impossible! But I got 😅.. I'm hearing ppl say now that they have multiple porosities, I don't even know how they're about to manage that! 😰
Angelique lii i ave to agree with you on that i don't follow Up with this hair type BS with letters and numbers Oh plz
I never understood curl typing simply because I always look at the chart and think my hair resembles about 3 of the pictures lol
Joi Alexis you can be multitexture :)
+Joi Alexis right! It's so obscure
Same
The andre walker hair chart isnt accurate. It only covers the surface level of curl patterns. Curl patterns goes deeper than that.
As a trained professional in curly hair, this is the best and most efficient educational video I have come across on the internet. Amen!
I agree.
Okay. So.... *inhale*
I've been natural my whole life.
@NotCreative Yes, I don't know where people get this from. 4c turns into tiny little coiled ringlets when wet. It's really unique and pretty.
NOT CREATIVE some people do have curls with 4c
If you don't do jack-diddly-squat to 4c textured hair coils to form. They're cute and tiny :]
4c hair is the thickness and I think it's beautiful and I have 4a and 4b
Make that make sense!
Black hair is so beautiful and unique 😌😌
Cathy Marie : I agree.
+Deborah Leow I second that!! #BlackGirlMagic
Cathy Marie totally agree
Cathy Marie You are so right! And it's so versatile! I love the variety of styles we can have. Regardless of how frustrated I've become with my hair, and how "tired of it" I get, and how much I've dreaded wash day, I have never considered going back to perms because in my mind I don't want to give up the variety and health of my hair.
Cathy Marie black women, straight up and down, are beautiful and unique.
I hate when people ask curl pattern and someone tell them like ohh 4b and their like NO your a 3c like why df did you ask if your just going to tell them about THEIR hair.
PunkGirlRock can't stand that! According to Instagram I'm between 3b and 4b on any given day as if they look remotely similar 😴
Daye La Soul apparently I would be the same lol
+_HerNameIsME lmbo they don't even know
I'd rather people ask that than how I got my hair to look like that...Like I can tell them how to get my hair texture...
+bbyskittles91 I agree! Lmbo
"A letter and a number will never be able to represent someone's natural hair"
I am a license cosmetologist and I completely agree, I'm not sure who started that chart but it certainly wasn't a professional. it's a joke and you are 100% accurate. this video just made my day!
+Shena Shoemaker Andre Walker started it. He's a celebrity stylist and come out with a hair line of course... marketing genius!.. thanks for watching 💜
Daye La Soul yeah true nd he even said 4c hair is the only hair type that should get a professional relaxer.
Shena Shoemaker Andrew Walker he created the chart, he's Oprah personal hairdresser something like that
Adika Aniedobe eveb though it was rude of him to say that. it is true. if your hair can be straighten with a flat iron like 3c hair why get a relaxer?
I think hair typing is only a problem when people idolize loose/defined curls over kinks/coils/tight curls its like colorism but with hair...I think of it as just like another classification to help you better find ways to manage your hair I've had better experience looking to people with my type 4 hair and a different porosity level than someone with type 3 hair and my porosity level or some other instance
pathetic lifeform. I agree!
I still don't know my hair type, I just know I did my first wash and go after letting go of those ends, and I had curls (literally to my surprise!) hair type never really helped me getting here, so I'm just proud that I've kept my hair curly and it's like meeting a new hair all though I've had it all my life!!
Its called texturism
v r yeah I use it to understand how to take care of my hair, I think b4 naturals became mainstream people needed it to explain the diff between our hair and white peoples so people can stop saying kinky hair is bad hair, it’s still an up hill battle
I agree! I am type 3 and I think type 4 hair is just so amazing and naturally soft looking, I've always wanted it.
Daye La Soul Thank you so much!! So much for going to bed early, I'm going to look up these youtubers instead lol.
Daye La Soul wow she even gave out references for low density TH-cam bloggers to watch.
deadass , you a real one . sub for lyfe thooo 🙏😩😩
You are the most slept on blogger !!! I have learned so much just by watching your videos and following you on social media ! I really appreciate you love ! 😍💋
+ANNA TENISE awww thank you 😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗.. I'm glad this helps and I appreciate your support 💜
RIGHT AND I LOVE the fact that she keeps it real with us and DOES HER RESEARCH!
agreed
Thank you! So glad this is getting such a positive response! I can't wait to share more with yall!
Daye La Soul you said you used a protein treatment. which one did you use
"fight me then...meet me in the comments" YASSS!!! LOL!
Tameka Roby yes!!!! Hahaha
😂😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣
LMFAOOOOOO
YASS Honey fight me in the comments!!
AYEEE I get it!
it's like when people only focus on amount of calories food has as a pose to looking at the nutrition value, sodium, trans fats, and sugar that actually affect you.
+Addy Fran perfect analogy!! Thank you!
They really should have more representation for 4c girls
girl.... what you said in the first 50 seconds basically just said what Shea Moisture did!!!
+FlightAttendantBarbie lmbo ☕️☕️
Right? I love shea moisture so much, my dad filmed a commercial for them, and their products saved my life and helped me love the way my hair looked.
FlightAttendantBarbie And you would think black people would be done with SM for that right??? SMH.
Its something in their shampoo products that burns my scalp.
@@cachaygreen9641 what product burns your hair ?
I've been asked so much about what hair type I am and I've never been able to answer that because I never understood what they meant. Comparing my hair to numbers and letters is just confusing especially when my hair looks like its mixed with everything 😂
NUGGET!! HI 💞
Hannah Mussette love youuu
Love you girl
Hannah Mussette I love your channel
Exactly; according to the chart and looking at my hair, I got about 3 hair textures. 😂
Yess did you hear ME?
princessZ44 yes, I hear you. More research needs to be done I the health effects of perms. So people can make educated decisions either way.
princessZ44 I was told that if I wanted a Nobel prize, figure out why women get fibroids. My doctor said they DO NOT have the answer to that mystery, but they were only common in Black Women more that White.
princessZ44 yes ma'am tumors....
Crystal Bell it's in the food or drink that is causing these fibroids. A lot of black women are getting hysterectomies at a high rate. It has to be the food.
what foods? but anyway everyone in my family had relaxed hair and everyone in my family had hysterectomies. probably a genetic component to this....
"Meet me in the comment section" lolololol I love it. I feel like you were saying everything I be thinking. Your channel is the bomb. Keep it coming.
ProphetBrothers lmbo thank you! 💙
yesss girl thank you...I just started taking care of my hair, and getting to know my hair is hard but the more products I try I see the progress , my hair is changing . more soft and manageable
Keep going Hun. 🤗💛🖤
low porosity hair, apply heat to open up the cuticles then apply product, works for me
I find that it works for me as well. I invested in a steam cap. Using it for 5 min. is enough to get my hair moisturized.
+kerrygotcake yes maam! I love my deep conditioning cap and steamer!
kerrygotcake Yess ! I found that mixing my favorite conditioner and oil and heating it up works magic with my hair!
mimi102239 yes girl, this is so random but i just started using hot oil treatments on the regular, love, love, love
I just found this out a few days ago from another persons TH-cam. I bought some Shea moisture manuka honey & mafura oil hair masque and tried it with olive oil warmed up. I'm sitting with my cap on now, hope this works Lol How long would either of you say to deep condition for low porosity hair?
Selling a dream....Girl..you ain't lie.
Omg your rant about the texture and hair charts gave me so much life. Healthy hair is what matters!!!! Let me continue watching because I got your back if people try you.
+tonilasHai lmboooo as knuck if you buck comes on I read this. 👊🏾👊🏾👊🏾 thanks boo!
Daye La Soul Exactly what I had in mind
"Fight me then, meet me in the comment section.." SUBSCRIBED IMMEDIATELY. I stumbled upon you by accident and you're awesome!!!
MelisaMarie lmbo! Thanks for watching and subbing! 💜
MelisaMarie LMAO I was reading this right when she said it cause at first I was so confused lol
MelisaMarie lol lol right!! "fight me..." subscribed 😂😂😂 I do the even know how old this video is lol
peachy uwu same
MelisaMarie RIGHT I just subscribed 😂 😂
Honestly, this is the first video to give me the most helpful insight for my hair. I have been natural for 6 years now and nothing seemed to be working. My hair was struggling so much so I big chopped this past February. I'm sort of "redoing" my natural hair journey and I want to thank you for making this video. It's extremely helpful and beneficial.
Same here!! It can be so confusing and misleading with all the products!
Her cheek bones 😍😍😍
+Queen Me lol thank you! ☺️
Daye La Soul yw hun
Queen Me I swear that's the only think I was staring at.
Daye La Soul *Snap* Thank you! Lol!
Black and Proud you ain't never lying 😂😂😂! I can go for days on the crazy ass naturals!
Let's just take a moment to say how amazing the content of this video is and how straight forward and engaging your energy is. I am a fan ♥️ Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
Thank you for sharing your perspective on ethnic hair types! Porosity is the key! My hair thanks you! 😊
Since watching your video a few times, I truly understand my own hair better!
I’m a single father trying to figure my sons hair out watching video after video. This is the best explanation I’ve heard so far. Thank you
I LOVE the fact that YOU ARE SOO REAL! Love it. I JUST SUBSCRIBED! LOVE IT!!
+Kobzilla thanks boo! 😘💜
Daye La Soul No Prob! I actually just released a new series on my channel called Kurl talk with Koby and so I'll be making videos like this one and so this added another perspective to some of the topics I will be talking about😁🙌🏾
NO PROBLEM! Just keep doing what your doing girl! I'm trying to get like you!
+kobzilla thats dope! Yes, spread that word!
3 minutes into the video.....You've just gained a new subbie!
Laniqua Irwin ikr? just subscribed myself! ☺️
I have 3 different curl patterns as well. Its just about thickness and finding which products and regime works best on your hair.
Thank you.
Anonimo lol Funny
Same :/ who gna help me. No natural chick ever shows what hair looks like after 5 hours. For me dry and frizzy!
Lmbo @ “no natural chick ever shows her hair after 5 hours”-you don’t see naturals walking around every day?.. If you never seen one after 5 hours, check any of my talking videos or a haul where I have my from out... You’ll see any where for 24 to 100+ hours later... even gotta 10 day curl on here😂
@@DayeLaSoul thats great! I see natural chicks hair mostly in a bun. Never out and open like in those wash and goes. Its very rare for me to see that.
Where do you live?
I know I’m late as heck but can I just say that this skin was glowing through the roof?
Marleen G. What conditioners do you use since you need more moisture? I need more moisture also.
Straight to the point...YES YES! I finally have a better understanding, thanks to you!
Thank you!
Yup I have thick low porosity hair and i LCO and use thicker products like Castro oil and dare I say...Blue Magic grease😊. Great video!!!!
WoWw
This is Amazing.. I could never try those! !
Girl if more people would know this information about their own hair there would be a lot more natural healthy heads of hair. Enjoyed the video!
+1GoldenBreeze thank you 😘
I have been a partial natural girl for three years. Thank you so much.
i have high porosity hair. shea butter saved my life 👊
makimoments see I'm the same and shea butter does nothing but dries it out. Lol she's right
makimoments same I been wasting money and time for 2 years😭
Brandy Cooper that's my relationship with coconut oil 😭
FabulousWright tell me about it!
makimoments yes my hair hates coconut oil ugh
Wow. You just helped me so much. I've been to so many different channels trying to get an understanding of porosity and density. FINALLY i say. You a real one. I just subscribed. I feel welcome already. Much love.
+Maiya B thank you! 💜
I've never paid so much attention to a TH-camr before but you said so much that made so much sense. I've had an epiphany😂
+Olivia Ajayi ayyy! Thank you! Glad this helped you 😘
I've been natural for 6 years now and this was the most accurate, on-point video I've seen on natural hair texture/curl patterns! I hate the curl typing system too because I have 3 different patterns. I've never been able to figure out if I have high or low porosity hair and your video helped me realize I have high porosity, fine hair! Which makes soooo much sense! Thank you, love!!
God bless you if you have multiple hair textures on ya head. I know its hard
Thank you. I was looking for that one relatable comment.
very informative. well spoken and straight to the point. thank you.
Tiffany Taylor We have the same name... lol.
I love that someone finally said this because my texture is all over the place. I never know what to do with my hair because it doesn't fit into the "one size fits all" box.
I feel like I’m back in cosmology school again. You just explain everything I’ve pay thousands of dollars to be educated on. Thank you ❤️❤️😍😍🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
when I first went natural I was caught up on curl type and pattern. trying to find product to bring out the curls....then... I learnt about porosity and that mines was high and when I started doing things for my hair and not to it, I ended with totally different results. it holds oil and curls better. so I agree with not getting caught up on types and patterns. it will turn you into a product junkie when really you only need very few products to maintain your hair
+Edwina Baldwin I love that "do things for your hair, not to it"... stealing it! 🙃🙃 lmbo. Thanks for watching 😘
Just send me a shot out!!! I promise I won't decline it like North Carolina did Soulja Boy 😂😂😂
Edwina Baldwin 😂😂😂👌🏾
+Shanelle Robinson thank you boo! 😘I am guilty of following trends but I try to remain practical 🙌🏾
This is the video I've been looking for, for three years!! Well said. Very informative. ❤
Well said sister. . 💋
You should get your cosmetology license, your a great teacher.. very knowledgeable! TY! 👏🏼
+MissBarbieDeluxe thanks love!
"meet me in the comments section" 😂😂😂😂😂 LMBO SUBSCRIBED!!
THANK YOU!
"Meet me in the comment section." My favorite quote of all time
i remember asking you your hair type and you told me what your hair porosity was. im like what is that but too embarrassed to ask. lol . ut if you never mentioned that i would be finding out later what it is. and im glad i did. and now i understand why certain prouducts i use on my moms hair and mine just all or mostly dont walk for my babygirl. so im learning more about our hair, mistakes will happen. but growing up and having such beautiful hair is to let it be and cornrow one a week to refresh and moisturize it. laving in NEw York with diffrent season and a whole lot of money just to have someone do one's hair makes it a bit hard to maintain. but its getting easier. thanks for your videos and thanks for sharing knowledge. i dont trust most products anyway because they are all in it for a profit
I really like how you explained porosity cause it works for me and I’ve been doing that for years!!
the beauty of our differences
I almost skipped this. you are 150% correct
So glad you didn't! Thanks for watching lol!
I love how real you are. Your honesty is refreshing. This was the best explanation of porosity, density, and strand size I've heard yet!
Thank you! This was so helpful. I've always struggled to figure out what type of hair I have and how to treat it. But now I have an idea so thanks. 🌻
Green Beauty channel has an excellent "hair typing system" that looks at all of these.
CreativeIbby Love Green beauty channel. She gets into the science of hair. I can appreciate that.
CreativeIbby I love her channel
new to caring about natural and don't know any of it (density, etc)
That was a great. I’m learning my natural hair more and more everyday. When I was coming up in the 70’s and 80’s it was so hard lol. I’m so happy there are so many products for our hair. And so many women like yourself that encourage natural hair. ITS AWESOME
We have the exact same hair style but not texture .I agree who cares about hair types . Everyone's hair is totally different . Keep up the good video's !! thank you so much for clearing this up !!
Lmao. “ fight me then, meet me in the comment section “ 😂😂😂👏🏽
girl the first 5 minutes of the video blessed me.
GIRL SAME OML
I love that you're always dropping much needed knowledge 😩🙌🏾 Keep it coming boo
Thank you boo!
I am a 33-year-old woman and I am JUST finding out how to take care of my hair. This video has helped me so much with understanding what steps I need to take to better care for my hair as well as my daughter! Thank you so much
My hair is straight on top , wavy in the middle and curly at the ends. Idk what to do.
Zarish Ahmed sounds like heat damage
Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
She put me on game. Thank you girl
LOL glad it helped! Thanks for watching! 💜
I'm so dead when you said fight me in the comments section 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
LMBO I was just kiddinggggggg 😇😈
Daye La Soul 😏😂😂😂😂💀 I absolutely love your perm rod sets😻😻 I want to try it and I'm so nervous. On the other hand keep up the good work I love it 😍😍😍😍😄😘
Im white but this was really interesting to watch !
Emily Mintern what did you learn?
millienl I had no idea that there was diffrent types or what porosity was 😂👌🏻
Emily I agree. I'm caucasian as well but I love learning about all hair types. I know I have a mix of 2b/2c/3a on my head, medium strand thickness, medium density. I have just been guessing at my porosity and didn't really test it because despite reading and hearing it's important, I'm stubborn. This video helped me better understand why porosity is so important and I need to do a stand test already lol
same gurl
Morgan Hartig that’s beautiful tho
