I think Willie is a lot stronger than people give her credit for. This was a woman living in a foreign country on her own in the 1930s, pursuing her dream of being a singer. That in itself took courage. She was thrust into Indiana Jones’ adventure by no fault of her own and in reality how many people could handle all the dangers he gets into without being afraid and screaming? She didn’t put up with Indy’s comment about “I’ll tell you in the morning”, she pushes him out of the room, having more self respect than just falling into his arms. She was gutsy to spit in Indy’s face when he was under the spell. Willie saved Indy several times in the film: she gets the antidote, she woke up in time to warn him that the plane was about to crash while he and Short Round were sound asleep, she gave Indy something to hit the big thug with that helped him survive that battle, she punched out one of the men in the mine carts and his body landing on the tracks caused the other to fall off the rails. Then she and Shorty stamp on Mola Ram’s hands on the bridge, causing him to fall and have the final battle with Indy which kills Mola Ram. There is also a scene that didn’t make it in the film where Willie tried to get help from Chattar Lal, not knowing that he was part of the Thugee cult, and that was how she got captured, because she didn’t know that someone she thought was one of the good guys was not. Willie is my favorite of the females because I think she was the sweetest. She added humor to a dark film. My niece who was a tomboy actually liked her the best too. I think people don’t like change and any new woman was probably going to get criticism just for not being Marion. Imo Willie worked for this film and I wouldn’t want her different.
Forget the feminists. I love the Willie Scott character, very funny, entertaining and attractive. Not all women are like this of course, to each his own. it ix a movie feminists need to chill.
@@dariakon And imo there’s nothing anti-feminist about Willie. She is who she is and she’s not apologetic for it. So she doesn’t know how to handle a gun, big deal. So she doesn’t like her nails to get chipped, a lot of women take pride in their appearance and it’s part of her career to look good. So she doesn’t like bugs, or gross-looking food. All natural reactions from most people. She screams when she’s in danger, gee, so do most people. I actually think she’s stronger than Marion, Marion grew up with an archaeologist and went on his adventures but she’s extremely vulnerable to Indy, despite him dumping her twice she quickly takes him back the minute he gives her attention. Willie stepped up to the plate when she needed to in being a help and she also isn’t a fool for Indy’s charms.
Willie got a triple kill during the mine car chase. When that happened, her character arc was completed for me. I was fucking impressed! So underrated.
@@JessicaChastainFan Yes, absolutely! People need to take off the hate glasses and stop the comparisons to Marion so they can see Willie for the heroine she is in her own right. 👍. Glad to see there are others who appreciate her. 🙂
@Charlotte Starlet I absolutely agree with everything you stated. I understood the character even at my age, I was very very young, just a child, & I always looked forward to the laughs & physicality that came with Willie in the movie. In the interview where she says that a lot of people disliked the character, I was completely opposite. Not only did Spielberg get it 100,% RIGHT, Kate delivered on point. Flawlessly. She will always be remembered for this movie. And then came Space Camp.. I could go on for days about her work I love it
Love the Indiana Jones movies. Have all of the movies on blue ray. Three gorgeous and great actresses. Karen,Kate and Allison. Thanks for posting this.
All of them are so talented and still quite beautiful. Loved the little cameo with HF at the end! Marion is definitely the best girl for Indy and I'm glad they finally got married. She had a thick skin and could hold her own in a fight. While their relationship was a bit rocky Indy was able to redeem himself by saving her life multiple times and vice versa. Plus the chemistry between the two never ceased. Willie doesn't get enough credit. Granted she screamed a lot but she was completely out of her element when she was forced into Indy's adventure. By the end of it she had overcome her phobias and even helped out Indy and Short Round. Bugs, Traps, deadly falls, nearly becoming a burnt offering, I'd probably be freaking out too. Elsa was exactly what you'd imagine as a Femme Fatale. She used her beauty and charm to get what she wanted, going so far as deceit. Though she led Indy into a trap she did delay the Colonel's request in executing the Joneses, didn't rat out Indy while in Berlin, and intentionally handed Donovan the wrong grail. While it could have been for information, leverage, or not wanting a rival, she had both some redemption and her comeuppance.
I think Kate Capshaw did the best she could for the character she got in Temple of Doom. Willie isn’t the best love interest, but she’s entertaining and that’s good enough for me.
Marion ravenwood shoot and killed ton of Nazis saving Indiana Jones's life having a higher body count than Indiana Jones, how many people did Willie kill zero , how many times did she get kidnapped and screamed throughout the whole movie a million times, and Marion was never kidnapped 100 times stop lying an exaggerations you sound like such an idiot, she was kidnapped twice and saved herself, better question how many times was Indiana Jones get kidnapped in every goddamn movie like a billion times, so stop talking all this fanfiction about Marion. I mean seriously you must be an idiot and a loser if you are saying Willie the worthless useless cry Baby of the franchise is anything as pathetic ,over badass Marion Ravenwood or are you just delusional oh yeah you sure are go right more fanfiction
Kate Capshaw even though does not have her mid 1980s hairstyle. Still looks gorgous in the early 2000s. Willie Scott character was a lot stronger character than what critics and feminists thought, but obviously spoilt a bit by the good exciting comfortable life she had in Shanghai in the 1930s. They should do a spin off of the Willie Scott character. Did she return to Shanghai? Or did she see the bad political situation between a militant Japan and everything changed overnight. Decided safer to return back to the United States than be a victim of a Japanese invasion. Interestingly Spielberg returns back to Shanghai in the 1930s the moment the Japanese invade in the movie Empire of the Sun and all the good times, the exciting nightlife and the good living of Shanghai vanishes overnight as westerners try and escape the city. Then after Japanese occupation. The communists take over Shanghai and did not want Shanghai to be the Havana of the East as it was known in the 1920s and 1930s. Indy movies though fantasy are actual based historical facts about places and cultures of that period. I wished they made another movie where Kate Capshaw reprised her role as Willie Scott.
I think she returned to the US, most likely Missouri. She had enough of adventure for some time. Can't remember where i saw it but i think there was some nod to her from Indy explaining that she had gone on to marry some bigshot director. Little wink to her actual life lol
"The communists take over Shanghai and did not want Shanghai to be the Havana of the East as it was known in the 1920s and 1930s" Nothing against partying and having good times. But last I checked you don't get arrested for things like drinking in public, even in communist countries. Also who has the worlds largest prison population? "The land of the free" 'Capitalist' America or Communist China, with a population of over 1 billion people? More like didn't want to return to the likes of Lao Che running a fascist/corporatist system where only a few have privileges, rather than a system that governs for and tries to meet the needs of all its citizens. “Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power.” - Benito Mussolini The video "When people from the USA visit GERMANY" is also great.
Harrison Ford comes on and makes out with all of them. Lol. Also I enjoyed Willie's character the most, her constant screaming was annoying, but she was the only character that actually grew in the series.
I loved Elsa in The Last Crusade. A lot of depth to her character. She was a villainess, but not REALLY. She was front and center with the most dangerous players in the game, and she always aligned herself with whichever team she thought was going to come out on top.
Its still considered evil to sit back and participate in nazism or anything like that and go along with it because you think they will win. That kind of mentality is evil within itself as you allow it to happen and dont stand up to it , even if you dont believe in the ideology. Is she a villian ? No but evil? Yes i think so. Even if she didnt like the book burning.
