    I think that, although Maschine as a DAW has many flaws and lacks many essential functions of "classic DAWS" like Cubase, Pro Tools, logic, Ableton.... it is still way more powerful in many areas like song building, external plugs and hardware instruments integration, NKS stuff helps too... so I would say that NI software has been tested and improved for a long time (I remember how bad it was when I got Maschine MK1 comparing to what it is now, and that's like 10 years almost). I do love MPC workflow, but overall MPC software is way better. I was asking for so many things they ended up updating and implementing, like clips for example, it was a nightmare creating a pattern every time you want a slight difference in clip content.
    Now, It also seems to me that Maschine as software is better optimised and uses less CPU and RAM than it used to - I can run many instances of it within Cubase and still have no problem at all.

    I have an older laptop, 7th Gen i7 with 12g’s of Ram and although rather large in size.., a standard HD. Will the MPC software choke my system? I currently run Studio One 5 and several other DAW’s on it (along with a slew of VST’s). I had the MPC Beats software a while back (it was a special bundle addition I got with hardware), but I found it to be extremely CPU heavy. Is that the same issue with this new controller and software?

    Nice review. The MPC Desktop software has the ability to display the simplified screens (as would be seen on One/Live) on the MPC Touch. It would be nice if this could be turned on with a secondary external screen located close/in-front of the MPC Studio mk2. Anyone know how to enable this??

    • @mungewell
      @mungewell 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems that it is possible. Using a 2nd monitor on a USB dock, I was able to use 'CRU Utility' to change product ID of external monitor to "THI1211" and then (after a reboot) the MPC Desktop rendered the MPC like screen to the 2nd monitor. Still needs the Touch connected, so wondering whether this would work with the Studio Mk2.

  • @machinesworking
    @machinesworking ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Everyone misses this comparison between Maschine and MPC, Maschine is a one time signature DAW. You literally cannot use more than one time signature in its song arrangement. This alone, for those of us not married to four on the floor, makes the MPC Studio miles better. In fact I sold my MPC Live because the workflow to change time signatures in the MPC is better in the software than the hardware. So the MPC Studio is a better fit, plus I often use the MPC software in VSTi in a DAW.

If you are coming from another MPC device, or if you move from this starter device to one of the other MPC products, you will have to relearn both button layout and pad shortcuts. This defeatws one of the strongest pros to having hardware, muscle memory. Second, software updates from Akai are agonizingly slow. More than a year since M1 chips came out as an example. The only thing i hate is that sometimes the workflow is interrupted by a mouse for example i can't turn on/off loop or increase sequence length on MPC studio, i can't choose filters when browsing, Step sequence shows 1 bar only to go to the next bar you have to use the mouse, Qlink via touch strip takes time to get used to it, also the FX can't be recorded as far as I know it's only for live performance. • @lewisd56
    @lewisd56 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just picked up a maschine mk3 used for about £30 more than this retails new, and you can get the maschine studio for LESS than the MPC studio 2 retails for. With all the benefits the screens on maschine offer (well, not the mikro) and for how cheap you can get the hardware if you are willing to buy used, its a difficult sell for akai, at least in my opinion. However, i guess if you want to use the MPC ecosystem, this is the cheapest way of entering it.
    Akai could make the studio 2 a very appealing choice however by building a mobile app to use the displaylink protocol and connect to the MPC software, giving the user the same interface as on the live and one, but on a mobile touchscreen as an optional extra to go along with the studio 2.

    • @vznquest
      @vznquest 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a crazy good price on the mk3

    • @MS7.7
      @MS7.7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone got to pay for it new! All these devices on the market were bought new so this argument is not relevant. Used market is completely different from New Market. New's money goes to companies/Used money goes to normal people. Newly released devices are not likely to be found cheap used.
      I bought MPC studio mk2 for 200$ brand new and 320$ for a used Maschine Mk3. They are both good but MK3 is 700$ brand new. The used market is big but the brand new is waaaaaaaay bigger. Not every used device is for sale but every new one is.
      P. S. I don't think akai is even worried about studio sales because its already dominating the market for 30+ years. They sell ton of other products not only MPCs and MPKs, also MPC studio users will likely to think of getting real MPC in the future. I agree on the second part it should work with mobile and other software.

    Are you sure the maschine mikro can not chop samples without using keyboard and mouse? I read this online:
    > Another useful feature in the Maschine 2.8 update is the ability to adjust your start and end points for audio samples directly from the Maschine Mikro MK3. This was one of my gripes with the MK3 initially, I thought at least there should be a way to quickly adjust the start and end of your samples. Now that you can do this, it is possible to actually use the manual sample chopping method to chop up your audio directly from the Mikro MK3.
    Would be great if you could confirm because I am thinking of getting it but it is not very useful to me without proper chopping functionality.

    Posted this on Marlow's channel vid-- huge step down from MPC Studio, the original (black version). Tiny screen, and only one encoder (4 q-link knobs aren't enough-- 1 is ridiculous). The NI Mikro MK3 model is not something designers should be following. We need more knobs, not less. Bigger screen, not smaller. Another thnig-- 6:24 MIDI CTRL mode--- did they (predictably) make that main encoder (and the transport!) not assignable? But most of the other buttons and the touchstrip is assignable? Would be great to have that encoder and its push-button assignable... as well as transport.
