Such is the march of technology. 30 years ago, the most powerful BMW you could buy was the 372-horsepower 850CSi and that was their *flagship* model. Even this base model xDrive 40i with just 3 more horsepower is over a second quicker 0-60 and a second quicker in the 1/4 mile with a 5 mph faster trap speed.
I've got the 2024 40i rwd model X5.. Much faster than people think.. It's lighter than this X6 with awd.. It's been clocked bone stock at 4.1 seconds..
I’m not a huge fan of coupe SUVs, because i feel like some taller folks may be uncomfortable in back due to the sloping roof, but this, the Mercedes GLE 63 AMG, and the Audi Q8, do feel sporty and luxurious in the inside and seem fun to drive.
I wish they gave the X6 the phev 50e treatment! The sloped rear end is more conducive for the EV aspect of it. BMW also really needs to get a digital rear view mirror camera for their vehicles, especially the the coupe styled ones!
Yet there are individuals out there that would gladly pay $76,990 (without any accessories) for a 2024 MDX-S, a PERFORMANCE TRIM that is almost 2 seconds slower to 60 and 1/4 times... X5 & X6 is a far better vehicle for the price and it's not just the performance, the 3rd generation B58 achieves better fuel economy as well and the tech + quality of these vehicles is vastly better.
IMHO you have two options when buying a German vehicle. 1) Buy it new and take the huge depreciation hit when you sell it later on 2) Buy a used one at a deep discount but be prepared to sink a lot of money in repairs. I suppose a third option is to lease one, great if you can use it as a company vehicle. FYI, I have nothing against them, some I'd like to own. I just happen to prefer Japanese vehicles. Better resale value and less time at the mechanic. YMMV
We just recently purchased a 5 series that was one year old and had about 18,000 miles. It was CPO, so it gets an extra year of warranty with unlimited miles. I paid about 2/3 of the sticker price, so the best deal is to buy a one year old, CPO BMW. Save the money, better warranty, great car.
@@DMCarReviews yeah, until the warranty runs out,LOL. but engine and trans problems arent the problem with these (and lots of German) vehicles. Electronics are. Im so glad I didnt not but that 840 during Covid(no one had any 850s). ive always liked the X6 too. I guess it wouldnt matter as I get a new vehicle every 2-3 years
Absolute trash. The entire dashboard is a screen. 0 thought, care, or originality went into this. And much like the original, it's a hodge podge of parts from other cars. Not to mention you're paying premium prices for pure unreliability, and complicated hybrid systems that'll bankrupt you with maintenance fees. These might sell well to the uppity kids in rich neighborhoods, but when they hit the used dealer lots in a few years, they'll be worthless. Seen a 2015 sell at an auction, in pristine condition, for $1500, because it needed some work done to the AWD system.
Sound a little bitter dear. Those who can afford the purchase, maintenance to ensure longevity ownership does not agree with your thoughts. Stay in your lane.
BMW share platforms & drivetrains because they're the best & just had record 2023 on 60 years of growth, these have made Spartanburg biggest American exporter of vehicles.
trend setter? no...how we forget that car looking utility is not a new thing..the trend is that after the market being flooded with suv stuff people actually want vehicles that look like CARS! honda crosstour btw would be more at home in todays market
These things continue to be hideous, enormous (but not spacious) and driven by the worst types of BMW owners, for what, 12 years running now? Horrid thing, the X6.
Good God……am I the only one really annoyed with Jonathan’s voiceovers? I used to like him but it’s just unbearable now. I might be in the minority 🤷🏻♂️ If you think I’m wrong just watch an intro by him and compare it to another automotive journalist’s voiceover intro! Like I said….I’m probably the a$$hole…..but I’ll stick with my assertions that Davis is intolerable at best. Who the f@!? actually talks like that?!?!
Endless money pit...BMW's are rolling piles of junk. Yeah, they are fine for a while...long term nightmare's. Very good engines, transmission, reasonable handling...but beyond that...Cheap plastic, sloppy fit and finish and even cheaper electronics.
Those are some great performance numbers! Not bad! Love listening to the Legend of automotive journalism Mr. John Davis!👌😎👍
Insane that a base model X6 has on par 1/4 mile times and acceleration as the 2013 X5M E70 with a 4.4tt and 555hp.
Wild performance for the non performance model.
Ultimate Driving Machine
I'm really impressed with the performance of the 40i model.

That b58 motor is awesome. I just bought a 24 x6 40i after we traded a 22 m340i. Even in this big SAV it’s still quick.
BMW seem to score big with that braking test here on MotorWeek.
BMWs are simply amazing
I am waiting for the Lexus version of the BMW X6 lol 0:53
As a former '03 Infiniti FX45 owner, I beg to differ on the coupe-like SUVs not being a thing.
The first generation Infiniti FX still looks great today. Would love to find one without the warped dashboard lol
Former 04 FX45. and 09 FX50 owner here, I concur.
I don't think anyone else ever really matched it.

Reminds me of that store on The Simpsons - Unnecessaries.
This BMW is best in class.
96 ft from 60 to zero will peel your face off.
A huge fan of the X6., and that B58. Although it is in its third generation.
The >>>>>X6 on the dash is tacky.
I agree, although I'm yet to see it in person because one needs to reserve judgement on all BMWs these days till seen physically.
@@amb4342 you have a point, it may not be on a regular production model. I like the base model of this and may get one for a touring car.
Looks great and fast

It looks very tight in its back seats.
I remember the first time I saw one of these before I was into cars, I was confused af if it was a car or suv.
both
The Best and original BMW make bank over these for the world..
He forgot the famous “on paper” slogan for the horsepower/torque figures lol
Uh, thanks, but I prefer the 7-Series Sedan as my favorite BMW model of all time.
BMW 's SUVs are the real things!

I’m not even into BMW and I think this car is nuts. Put bikes and kids in the back and race mustangs.
When Car and Driver 1st tested it they said you can use it to tow your race car to the track & then race your tow vehicle.

BMW have done volume in my market since last century on lea$e rate$.

The X6M is better especially in black
a beauty, but BMW reliability and price
B58 is one of the most reliable engines out there.

Since they did record 2023 on 60 years of growth, it doesn't matter to MILLION$, you know Toyota buy Supra from them, right?
🔥🔥🔥
Sensafin Vegan Material = Vinyl Seats...for you folks not attuned to BMWSpeak. Enjoy.
🐮 🐽 free.
Vinyl interior for $75K????WTF BMW!!!!!
Will spend most time in service dept. And after warranty is up..WATCH OUT!! $$$$$ buy a Toyota

People who can afford vehicles such as this don’t keep them outside of warranty. Most of the time they’re leasing.
That’s just your opinion

BMW did it half century ago with 2000 Touring, 3 door hatch. 2002 sedan, b4 they were doing SUVs.
It puts the “x” in excess.
X7, which Autogefuhl just gave best in class.
………and as soon as the warranty expires, watch the dashboard light up like a Christmas tree! 🤷🏼♂️🤔👎🏻
This thing just looks wrong lol
John you are better than this. Coupes have two doors. Not to mention putting the word utility on this thing is insane.
Tall 5 door wagen IS utility & couper has meant to cut since horse-drawn carriages, Detroit sold 4 door fastback post-War as Sedanettes.
