Great tutorial. But as a note, never tap with a hammer on the threaded shaft end. If necessary tap with the nut still on to protect the threads.

Instructor here.. and repairer of many mushroomed ends. I'm sure the guy here knows how much to tap, especially on a demo vehicle, but the you are 100% correct. People will see this are go complete Thor on theirs.

The channel has a more recent tutorial where the guy uses a pin-punch to do this rather than hitting it with the hammer directly

Yes i believe theres a small groove to tap with a punch not to damage threads.

Driver side done easily, but passenger locked solid in place. Used hammer with nut on end of shaft, sds hammer drill with chisel and a Amazon three legged hub puller - that fell apart. Nothing will budge it. Car is a j10 Nissan Qashqai 2010.

Thanks for the video. I would have thought the break pads would have come off when the caliper was removed. Are the pads attached within the caliper?

    • @autodocuk
      @autodocuk  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your comment.
The pads are fixed with special springs due to which they can not easily fall out of the caliper.

Thanks for the informative video. I tried changing the same wheel hub but the break calipers remained clamped onto the rotor. I tried releasing the hand break and starting the engine but the rotor was still clamped by the break pads. Is there anyway I can release the calipers? Thanks in advance.

I couldn't see them anywhere else, I thought I'd give the tightening torques from the service manual, don't re-assemble with a breaker bar!
    Driveshaft nut (32mm) 125Nm / 13 Kg-m / 92 ft-lbf
    Hub Retaining Nuts (17mm x4) 88.3Nm / 9 Kg-m / 65 ft-lbf
    Wheel Nuts 112.6Nm / 11Kg-m / 92 ft-lbf
As mentioned you shouldn't hammer direct on the driveshaft (service manual mentions using a block of wood to save the threads, or as I commented below, most people just undo the nut and use that once it's level with the end)
    Hope that helps someone.

      Thank you for your comment!
Unfortunately, it is not possible to clarify the tightening torque, you can find this information in the technical documentation for the repair of your car.

In general, the replacement will be similar, the only thing that may differ slightly in the design features of your car.

Great video. Is it necessary to remove the ABS sensor prior to removing the wheel bearing? It seems that it is not attached directly to the assembly the way other types are. Mine is stuck and I´m worried I´ll break it.

      Thank you for your comment.
It is correct but please be sure to remove the ABS sensor first, otherwise it may be damaged during disassembly of the hub.

Damaged my driveshaft copying this vid and couldn't get the hub nut on, had to get new hub nut plus CV joint.
Moral: use a bearing puller (looks like a claw) or a copper hammer, and be really careful how you hit the driveshaft!

you're supposed to undo the nut, but not remove it, once it's level with the end of the shaft you can use the hammer on the nut (and you won't damage the threads) once the shaft is then loosened you can remove the nut and drive the shaft out without using as much force.
