  • Derren meets Daniel, a real life Bat Man, who shows you his unique abilities. Despite Daniel being blind, he has developed an amazing technique to detect sounds by listening to how they reflect from objects. He does this to help him determine what his environment would look like.

    This guy helped out a kid, Ben Underwood who had the same condition as Daniel, and also the same ability, he died at the age of 16. It really is genuine what these people can do, no trickery here. Its amazing how we evolve and adapt and use parts of our brain that we have never used before when we are against all odds. If we could harness all of our brain power the possibilities of a human would be endless.

    What an extraordinary skill. I had heard of this method on Radio 4 but goodness me I never thought it could be that accurate.

    *You have a message* - (Derren/Derrens producer) This man is extraordinary! The movie - Daredevil comes to mind :) I wish I could go back into that "place" I was in a few months back. We talk about self awareness and perceptions of the world around us quite a lot. The amount of thoughts we have to this day. How "evolution" came about. To me, all information we know, is pointless. The only things we need to know.. is about generating electricity using green sources. We are slowly destroying everything, maybe continuing more rapidly. You can not change natural disasters, although we can attempt to avoid them. Oil etc for example are a natural resource for our planet. Whilst in that "zone" I was in.. I began looking up, as threats (human beings) were all around me. This was not a sense of paranoia or anxiety. I felt the "center" of "everything" in a way. My surroundings were not simply just there.. The sense of "feeling" my surroundings, was simply amazing. The sky, trees.. anything NATURAL on our planet. was 1,000,000 (probably an understatement) times more.. Normal/Realitified. I simply cannot explain the view of life I had. Because as soon as someone spoke to me it went away. It got me thinking into that, not everything is so obvious to us as it seems. Anyone brought up in the world today, seems to automatically go into the wrong sense. Why do babies cry so much when they're born? I didn't want to come out of the womb for one. I watched a drama called 'Kyle-XY-' it was about this somewhat "alien" being. This was not true, in fact he was put into a tub where his brain could develop properly until he was finally ready to come out. Anyway. The conclusion of this message, is.. why do I not perceive the world, as i did then. I have only been in the place once. Although it felt the more "normal" perspective. I would give anything in the world to feel that way again. I miss it :(

    It's the frequency waves of sound that he's making from his mouth, so basically the sound waves come from the noise he makes which then travels in all directions and if there's an object standing next to him or further away the sound waves hit that object and bounce of it and travel back to his ears meaning you get a sort of visualised virtual world made from sound waves.

    I want to believe this actually works, but I am skeptical towars the idea that the human ear would be capable of hearing the slight differences between the clicks he's making. I have heard that the other senses of blind people are somehow better developed to compensate, but I doubt it would go to this level. Perhaps if you train it...
    At any rate, the demonstrations of this man look very much like things I have seen Derren debunk in the past.

      +alexc270494 already done..at least 15 years ago I saw a documentary where a blind school had people on bikes doing the slalom through many tall thin posts. The had a gadget worn around the head like a miners torch but with earphones. the gadget would shoot out sonic pulses and then pick up the rebounded pulses. They had to learn by the sound and time of the rebounded sonic clicks, how far away objects were and what form they took. I'm surprised I haven't seen this technology really take off.

    There is a thing called Blind Sight that was discovered by doctors. read up on it and tell me what you guys think. It may apply here.

    • @mnx64
      @mnx64 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No it doesn't because he tells us that his eyes have been removed entirely if I recall correctly. My understanding of blind sight is that you are able to perceive things subconsciously, but the image doesn't actually come through to your conscious mind. So there has to be an actual image, but the visual pathway is cut at some point on the way up (probably V1). So you may "feel" certain things, but you don't know how.

    • @psychicoutlaw
      @psychicoutlaw 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tristan Walter Stevie Wonder has been blind since birth yet reports he dreams and says he dreams in color, I believe he has heard enough about color to figure out that that is what he is seeing. Perhaps parts of our brain are working even tho the 'sense' is not. Fascinating stuff however you 'look' at it.

      +Meatwing It is possible. Dolphins do exactly the same thing, they make clicking noises, and then based on how long it takes for the sound of those clicks to echo back to them, they can work out how far away an object is, and roughly what it's size and shape is.
