My mom told me she was circumcised when she was 5 and she said she still remembers how painful it was so she had it done for me when I was a baby. She said it's sunnah too, it's not just happening in Africa, this is common but rarely talked about in Indonesia. I still hate my mother for it. It's true, ignorance is bliss and my mother doesn't think it's wrong and if I never found out about how bad fgm is I wouldn't feel like I've been dismembered

I would love to see the lines in Qur'an where it says that FGM should be performed. I greatly doubt that it's there. And there's so many Islamic countries that don't have this tradition.
This woman is amazing. She realized what strategy will work and used it. People need to get their community leaders on board and people will follow. Fighting the system from the outside doesn't work.
. That form of FGM is as rare as removal of the penis or castration. The most common form of genital mutilation for both males and females is removal of the prepuce
vuk96zj you want any reason to attack islam it is not islamic practice it is cultural thing and majority african countries are practicing muslims and chrisitians
That was one powerful film. May women everywhere have the education, support and strength to stand up to this evil practice. It will still be done in secret I am sure, but maybe in my lifetime it will be consigned to the history books like the binding of women's feet in China. I knew nothing about it when I first went to The Gambia now I will fight for any young woman I know there to fight against it. Over the years I have learned a lot and I cry for every tiny baby, young girl and young woman who has been mutilated. God did not make a mistake when he designed men and women. It is not for anyone to cut bits off and say we don't need those important bits of our anatomy!
For anyone that has undergone this, it can be reversed. There is a rare procedure called clitoroplasty performed by a handful of doctors. I underwent this and if you have too, don't give up hope ❤️
It can be partially undone, yes, but once you lose a body part, it is gone and you cannot get it back. I’m so glad that there is a procedure to help women to ease their suffering from FGM.
A brave woman, confronting the Islamic authority figures in her homeland. This is a tough issue. Seems very clearcut to us Westerners (and morally it is), but stamping it out is much more difficult.
Ali Ismail No not at all. Its a long-standing cultural practice in parts of Africa. I was just pointing out that the proponent of it in this case just happened to be an imam. Can't argue with that, but it doesn't make it an Islamic practice.
Siouxsie 06 funny how a mountain is made out of an anthill. FGM is a cultural thing and not enforced by religion. Why isn't there FGM in saudi arabia, in turkey in indonesia? Because they're of different cultures. Kenya where i leave its not a muslim country yet its a big issue with young girls. Ethiopia, eritrea, Tanzania, Malawi, Uganda etc
~Credit: Daughter of Jerusalem (youtube username) % of Egyptian women are mutilated They are Arab. It is done in Saudi Arabia. I just read the Princess trilogy of books on the Saudi royal family. The author said her older sisters suffered FGM, but there were health complications, so it was not done to the 3 youngest girls. There were 6 daughters in the family and 3 were mutilated by FGM, 3 were not. ~Credit: Daughter of Jerusalem (youtube username)
I definitely think educating those kids--both girls and boys--about the damage it does to a girl is a key piece of the puzzle. It's too late for those girls, but when they have daughters of their own they will have at least a little bit more information about the cost of FGM, and at the very least might ask questions instead of doing it simply because it's always been done.

We both have inequalities. Women have to suffer discrimination .while men have to keep up with unrealistic status of being a "real man " macho ,and if not being labeled a sissy, and also being the bread winners in their family that is hard.
my heart cries out to this. I am a victim of FGM, my clitoris was removed when i was a young girl without my mother knowing while i was in the care of my paternal grandmother. As a teenager, i have always wondered what a clit was and why women always referred to it as a feel-good spot. It really broke me when i realized that i didn't have one when i found out about my FGM in divorce papers, i'm not going to lie, it really hurt and it gave me a lot of distrust against my grandparents and Islam in general. I feel inadequate as a woman, i can't feel good and it saddens me because what if my future partner sees that i can't feel good too? Would he be discouraged? This video touches a really tender spot in my heart because it is rarely ever talked about and is such a taboo topic. The Imam's ego had to be massaged before he backed off a bit and announced the practice "not compulsory". If the clerics do not equate acceptance of reason when it contradicts what they previously preached with "defeat"; and if they would more readily embrace better ideas instead, everyone would be better off, including themselves.

MRS. JAHA DUKURA, May your name be PRAISED for all of time for the permanent advancement of females of ANY age to not be abused, cut, mangled, mentally damaged with long term anxiety, dysfunction, even PTSD. YOU ARE A HERO FOR all people by reminding, affirming, and motivating change to protect us from obsolete, if not barbaric, traditions to alter a body of any minor or unwilling, or uneducated person! NO ONE SHOULD EVER EVER EVER have the position of POWER to surgically, or barbarically, remove ANY body part HUMANS are BORN WITH! Adults, once educated on the topic, can always go and do a procedure to alter their sexual sensations, remove them or reduce them. But under NO OTHER circumstances does ANYONE have the right to tell a minor or an uneducated person to give up parts of their body, their organs. SKIN is the LARGEST ORGAN on the human body. The vulva and penile skin is extremely fine tuned specialty skin with up to 1000 times more nerve endings in one zone than on some other areas of the body. To remove foreskin-THE MOST SENSITIVE SKIN with the MOST nerve endings, is an ONGOING TRAGEDY. Yes men are left with some of that skin. But if they had ever felt the difference as an adult, the majority would KEEP that very wonderfully sensitive skin God designed for men. Women's clitoris has MORE nerve endings in it than the entire penis. To remove it is MORE than equivalent to removing all the outer skin nerves of the penis, leaving only nerves on the inside of the shaft. LEAVE female anatomy alone. It's very very precious and gives a wonderful gift between husband and wife when they become one, in body, and commitment. Those two parts were PERFECTLY designed to work together for equal pleasures of love, desire, and therefore brings about new life just as perfectly. THANK YOU JAHA 100, 000, 000, 000, 000, 000 times... for all the girls in the future that will be saved from a life of dealing with frustration, anger, anxiety, confusion, self loathing, negative body image, suicide, loss of sensual desires, painful sexual activity, infections, illness, death, fear, powerlessness. YOU GAVE ALL THESE WOMEN and MOTHERS and GRANDMOTHERS, SISTERS, AUNTS the ability to support one another to keep holding ground of sane, sound permanent life decisions. WE APPLAUD YOU JAHA!!!!!!!!!

So, what God /Allat created and put in a woman, is to be removed? That is being presumptious, as if a Human knew better than God.
Truth! I'm against circumcision as well.
@Desirea Winton don't question millions of years of evolution our bodies and designed to be the way they are for some reasons we don't even understand.

If you going to talk about somebody's religion don't disrespect their believes .
She's not trying to enforce anything like an outsider saviour, she's educating and respectfully and patiently educating her community generations throughout. She is very admirable and will have a long lasting impact

And there's so many Islamic countries that don't have this tradition.

this is very personal to me as person who's country has a lot of fgm. Many people in my family have not had it done. I want to make a change too
. That form of FGM is as rare as removal of the penis or castration. The most common form of genital mutilation for both males and females is removal of the prepuce
Say no to islam.
Sexism is just as offensive as racism and there is so much more toxicity in islam other than the sexism.
vuk96zj you want any reason to attack islam it is not islamic practice it is cultural thing and majority african countries are practicing muslims and chrisitians
vuk96zj Hadiths tell that the prophet Muhammad, may peace be upon him, spoke against FGM. This practice was cultural before Islam was founded.
I underwent this and if you have too, don't give up hope ❤️
this should be pinned!!! not everyone is aware of this
It can be partially undone, yes, but once you lose a body part, it is gone and you cannot get it back. I’m so glad that there is a procedure to help women to ease their suffering from FGM.
SOME can be. It does not guarantee return of sensation.
@@kiaharper7172 That’s true. It cannot guarantee but it helped me.
These women are forced into this by "tradition" while also "traditionally" not being taught to read... Not a coincidence
A brave woman, confronting the Islamic authority figures in her homeland. This is a tough issue. Seems very clearcut to us Westerners (and morally it is), but stamping it out is much more difficult.
Siouxsie 06 are u saying FGM is a islamic practise. coz if u r i have 6000 reasons why not 😂😂😂
Ali Ismail No not at all. Its a long-standing cultural practice in parts of Africa. I was just pointing out that the proponent of it in this case just happened to be an imam. Can't argue with that, but it doesn't make it an Islamic practice.
Siouxsie 06 thank you so much. I thought u were those bigots who think muslims inforced this horrific act.😊

% of Egyptian women are mutilated
They are Arab.

The girls that she spoke to in the class were so brave to ask questions etc.
This made me cry. This woman is such an inspiration! To go through what she has done and still have the will to fight for others is just superhuman.

Can a mans body grow, hold and give birth to a baby? No. She holds so much more power than a man for that reason.
Men will never understand the pain women go through especially the pain related to FGM as woman do.
Sara M. You just ignore the comments made by men so what do you expect?
Women will never understand the pain of being a man
Of course we won't know each other's pains, because one, we're of different genders, and two, we're all different people. Can people try to stop bashing on others and do something about the actual situation at hand here?
I know FGM is worst, but the same way women in America do not know of the pain of infant male circumcision .Since they are not subjected to it;they think "it is just a little cut my son will have "
We both have inequalities.
Jacob Khan it circumcision without a medical reason is mutilation , but its consecuences for the health are not so terrible than infibulation . In male circumcision they only remove foreskin . To be equivalent to infibulation they should remove the whole glande .
