Dear Pye, This is the first video I discovered from you and it really goes beyond "good and useful content." Your energy, tone of voice, and pace didn't just make this a great video to watch, but they also transported an implicit message of, "Don't worry, you can do this. And you can do this well," where most tutorials still leave a big gap between teacher and student. Thanks so much!
What a simple yet great demonstration. Thank you for simplifying it and showing how to expose for the accent lights first. I feel like I was going it backwards.
Love that you went step by step and showed us your ISO and Shutter adjustments on the spot! I wish more creators shared in the way you just did! Cheers!
Probably the most useful lighting setup/dialing in tutorial I have ever seen. I have a podcast page (not this one) and just started looking for ways to tweak my area for when I have an in studio guest.
Man i know this video is from a while back already but im glad i found it - I've seen most every youtube video from reputable channels about choices of light and their positioning etc but no one ive come across has gone through the steps in terms of fine tuning the ambient like this as a starting point for setting the scene; most videos focus only on the subject and/or key lights
I've been watching so many videos on this and trying to find how to do interviews in a small space ... my idea to light it looked exactly as you have here and yet I couldn't find a single video to confirm or deny this ... but here we are! Woo! 🎉 Subscribed. Thank you!
Great and easy to follow tutorial using C-A-M-P. In my personal taste, I'd probably set those rim lights to a warmer colour too so that they almost 'motivate' the practical ambient lights in the background.
Wow - this is an excellent lighting tutorial. I'm also in awe of the superb video editing you did to present the information. Thanks for helping noobs like me to advance our skills.
Mr. Pye ,,thank you for this amazing video and explanation you are the best❤ Can I ask which camera best to use for vlogging for beginners and can have these filters and ambience too many thanks in advance 🌹
I'm in the process of creating a similar video for my channel but one that's geared toward working alone, on-site, for clients - trying to create depth with the least amount of gear possible. My process is similar, but starts with the subject and then moves to the background. I figure if you run out of time, you better have the subject lit first! Great stuff here - really helpful. Thanks.
Dude what the heck. I followed your instagram after my breakup and now im out here learning cinematography and i come across this video. I was like… hold up!!! Now hes teaching me lighting? 😂
Good video.... So many people don't bother learning the basics behind Lighting a set.... TH-camrs.... People who work in poorly.. Hope you're not offended heh.. .. Just seems more virtual for them.. But must don't make any effort... No matter what we're lighting up.. Just need 3 basin lights.. Key fill and back... And expands from there if needed and can afford
See the comment just below mine? Ditto. You rocked this brother. Thank you so much. Following you now. My video production just went up and so will my income $$$$
Great video and newly subscribed. But i have a small worry. I was told that my shutter speed should be at least double my frame rate. Yet you were shooting at 60fps and set your shutter to 1/60. Would that not introduce funny stuff? Or did you finally change the settings?
Great video... being an old portrait shooter, I would sort of lean more towards "Rembrandt" lighting for better modeling. Also... I usually start off with the T/F stop ISO combo that I want to use and then proceed with your four steps. Unfortunately... there are a lot of point and shoot people out there that don't understand the value of good set design and lighting.
Very informative video - thank you. Pretty sure it's pronounced "TIM-puh-nee", as in the kettle drum, not "tim-PAH-nee", considering that Luxli's other pro LED panel is Taiko, another type of drum.
Not related to video topic but yo! that mic clipped on to you is insane!! can you please share a link or at least what's its called? (it can be an affiliate so I can support you guys as well)
In my opinion, there is no one on TH-cam...I repeat NO ONE that is a better teacher of this stuff than Pye. This is great.
You are absolutely right! Amazing content

My wife always teases me how I struggle with my subject and background lighting. Thanks for this😂 bro.
You sir have a very good sense of balance in lighting and color. Everything in the frame is better for your attention to the whole composition.

Amazing information! Thank you for sharing. But I have a question. How much more work is it to setup lighting against a black wall?
