Question of the Day ⚡️What Lights are you using for your TH-cam Videos? ****** 📕 Check out All the Lights used in this video HERE ➡️ kit.co/SeanCannell/youtube-lighting-tutorial-complete-beginners-guide-to-video-lighting
Great video, but too many recommendations/choices. Let's say finance is not a problem, but I only want to buy 3 lights. I am a studio based TH-camr. What 3 would you recommend?
Great score on the Dollar Tree shower curtain use. They also have white satin pillow covers that can be cut open to be double their size in surface area for use around common lamps, etc. 🤗
Lighting is such a crucial element of filming videos. It can make or break an entire video and first impressions are super important if you want to turn that viewer to a subscriber. Make sure you have adequate lighting in the right areas, then you'll make sure to impress anyone watches your videos! 👌🏻
Great video. This is one of the elements of TH-cam that I really struggled with when I started just over a year ago. I found it so difficult. It took me about nine months to finally get it right and consistent. Two tips: 1) a slight shadow on the face is indeed good and gives a bit more of a natural look; 2) Daylight is actually your enemy. I loved having bright natural light but if a day was overcast the amount of light would be constantly changing. This would make editing really hard. One sequence would be underexposed then the next overexposed. It was horrible. I now shoot with blinds down using just artificial light set to 5500k on every video. The difference to the quality of my videos is amazing and I spend far less time having to mess with settings.
I totally agree with you! I actually have a video on my channel on the same topic, that i believe could help you even further! “TH-cam lighting setup - Step by step tutorial”: th-cam.com/video/0jM43YYsR50/w-d-xo.html
Same! Whenever I am near a source of natural light I get blasted out white highlights and a flat overall light that removes the shadow and depth. Same!
Awesome! Thank you. Making some changes as I learn lighting. I am going to add a hair light, clipping my hardware store clip light to the floor joist and choosing a lower power CFL bulb with a plastic shopping bag over it for diffusion. I have two challenges I face: 1. I have a white board (reflection!!!!) that I use. 2. I have a green-screen background.
Can you do this video but for a smaller room? The issue I have with lighting videos is that the rooms are soo big while my room is very tiny. What are tips for rooms that are very small or if you have a small space to film or a more cluttered space? Thanks :)
I would try pocket lights. They sell Different small lights on Amazon that can do huge ranges of color temperatures and brightnesses, and they attach to a regular tripod/camera mount
I got a bunch of lighting equipment for christmas because I knew that was an aspect I was missing in my videos. Lighting is such an underrated aspect for a lot of beginning creators, great stuff guys!
I've been using Godox SL150ii, Godox ML60, Aputure AL-MW (small "pocket" lights) and FlashPoint M1 (RGB pocket light; Adorama'branded Godox light). Super pleased with power and light quality of the SL150ii and ML60. Fans are super, super quiet. Can't imagine a better performing light for the prices I picked them up at before Christmas. The pocket lights are powerful, have great color rendering, and are handy for a variety of uses. Still getting up to speed on all things film and lighting without killing my budget. Overall, really happy with the return on investment I'm seeing with Godox. I appreciate all the content you guys crank out. Very helpful for us beginners
Lighting completely changed my videos! I bought this led light strip for the back of my bed and I think it looks pretty cute in my videos! Thanks for all the tips 🤪
Great decision! I actually have a video on my channel on the same topic, that i believe could help you even further! “TH-cam lighting setup - Step by step tutorial”: th-cam.com/video/0jM43YYsR50/w-d-xo.html
Great video! I just started my page and after buying a ring light I saw a major difference in quality...it's so much to learn when it comes to this YT thing lol
This is a good tip, I make top-down cooking videos and I am thinking of investing into a light stand. If I shoot during afternoon or evening the light in the kitchen isn't enough.
I make a lot of yoga videos and live online teaching for companies (& chair yoga teacher training + yoga courses online) so this is useful info to help my lighting 💡 situation. Thx Stacie
*Best video I've watched on lighting for my home office youtube studio!* Thank you very much, Nolan. I'm glad I have two Neewer 660s and a Neewer RGB 660 because they're so versatile, although I now want to upgrade to the Weeylite Ninja.
Wow. You are an amazing teacher. I watch a lot of TH-cam instructional videos (easily hundreds of them by now), mainly about science. The quality of teaching varies, but only a very few are truly gifted. You are one of those people. Thank you for this clear foundational video, that is also very detailed.
Thanks for sharing this! Lighting always feels like my Achilles heal when creating marketing content. The match of the yellow lamp with the yellow hair light blew my mind. I never considered the fact that back lights should match.
Awesome breakdown! I'm currently using a 2 point lighting system (1 key light and 1 fill light). I keep it simple and just put them 45 degrees on each side, resulting in flat lighting (functional but boring). Might experiment moving the fill light around to create more dramatic lighting.
Great video and content! The problem I'm having is that now that I'm 54 years old, the side lighting makes me look older. It kind of accentuates the changes in my face. So I can get the perfect light setup I want with great shadows but I'm not happy with how I look. So since I can't turn the clock back 20 years, I'm going to just go with the soft box front and center. I would love to watch a video that shows how to really help a person look more attractive using light and camera angles. I'm just experimenting on my own. Also I like the image from my iPhone 11 better than my DSLR except for the lack of bokeh.....anyway, more experimenting! Thanks for this wonderful video!
The shot of her sitting on the sofa looks better with the hard light for me. It looks more cinematic. More real. At home, people usually do not have soft light.
This was great, but for those starting out? How can I make he most out of just 2 lights? And natural light in my office? I am pretty budget with just 2 $5 Home Lights and a ring light. Trying to make it work!
Amazing video! Should the newer bicolor light should be placed on the sides of the person shooting a video for TH-cam!? Thank you for such a wonderful video! 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Superb video! I have 2 Neewer LED lights! Do you suggest I should set both the lights in front of the video with shower curtain for a beauty TH-cam video? Please let me know, ig would really help 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Great videos, but for me some details missing... for me. The Key light you show with just the key light on, but on what? Meaning, how much white and how much yellow using this Neewer 660? And what angle from subject and how high, and what angle down? This is the part all videos are leaving out. Could you do a more comprehensive update?
Guys try to put videos short as much as possible... Most of your videos are more than 30min. That makes the viewer to think whether to watch or not although your content are great. Try to put videos within 15 min. If you can't, try to put video in two parts. That may make the viewer more. I'm not that much experienced in TH-cam like you guys. Just started. Simply my little suggestion : )
Thank You! Can I just say how nice it is to see links to other reputable retailers other than just Amazon. As a former Pro Seller for Amazon, I recently closed my Seller and Retail accounts. I am sick and tired of their bull$#@&!! I'll be just fine, without the lying, games, and hypocrisy.
Fabulous video! Question: What about light placement when talent wears glasses and he is using a tv monitor for his slide presentation? What are the work-arounds to avoid glare and reflection in this situation? Thanks.
Thanks for this! The ESDDI Bi-Color Video Light with 144 LEDs lighting is out of stock though! Any other suggestions (bi-color, at the same price range)?
How did you acquire the Hollywood film footage to play with in your editing software? Likewise, how would you get footage of another creator’s TH-cam channel…to play with in your editing software?
Thank you for this great info. Can you tell me your best recommendation for a voice-over microphone? One that will be useful for voice over, screen recording and maybe live steaming...Thank you

how to do incorporate all the lights into a really small space? Are other really affordable options available for tiny spaces? thank you.
TH-cam equipment priority:
1. Audio

3. Camera
