Yeah the guaranteed spots thing I have mixed feelings on. On one hand teams that are loyal to the series full time probably should get them on the other it flies in the face of tradition. But bump day hasn’t been much in recent history so I guess change is inevitable. He probably got that idea in, oh about 1995 I’m guessing
I can finally put the split behind me. Happy to have survived it and to still be a fan of American Open Wheel Racing. Long live CART, Long Live Champcar. God Bless Robin Miller
The old place could not be in better hands. This is absolutely fantastic! Roger has done more for the sport of racing than anyone. Congratulations Roger! I'm super excited for May 2020.
Wow I never saw this. Thank you Robin for the great interview with mr penske. That was awesome. Man we will miss you. Rip my friend. I’m Sure you will be looking down on that speedway every May.
I can't think of anyone better to run the speedway, than Roger Penske. He is the perfect person for the job. Other than Tony Hulman buying the speedway in 1946, RP is probably the best thing that is ever happened to it. And RIP to Robin Miller too. We miss having him around.
Best thing that could happen to, not only the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and IndyCar, but the entire Motorsports industry as a whole ! Touch Gold ! Thank you Roger, and thank you to the entire Penske organization ! One class act !
I think this is the best thing that could happen. Roger, Please upgrade the video screens on the front straightaway! They need to be at least 4 times bigger than they are right now.
Definitely great news. Fantastic actually! The key with Roger is in looking past his many business successes and seeing who and what he really is and what he is, is a competitive RACER through and through! To open wheelers and Speedway diehards, he's family.
I’m glad to hear RP say they wouldn’t be giving away tickets; it’s proven to be ineffective in other sports and types of entertainment. It programs the fans to just wait for free tickets again instead of purchasing their own, and that bigger crowd doesn’t usually result in more money for the venue in terms of food and drinks and merchandise sold.

Man... Only Robin Miller could jest with Roger and have him not be insulted or take offense... Miller is a legend in motorsports journalism as Roger is a racing constructor/owner. And yes, there is no one else who you would want in charge of IMS and the most competitive racing series in the world - than Roger Penske. A good day for American motorsport.
He mentioned that he wants to bring a 24 hour sports car race.It would be a great thing. The original plans for IMS was to have a road course.Stay tuned.
It's nice to see you Robin happy again. My only regret, I wish Roger was 20 years younger,or that he bought this 20 years earlier.Now... If he could buy the Bears, life would be perfect.
LOL about your Bears comment. I am a Packers fan from WI and I worked for Penske Racing in NC. Roger is one great businessman. He may not know much about football, but if did buy he Bears he could make the Bears in every year good team. He is that type of man. The Bears had their chance last year. The team blew it. A few years after the Pack destroyed the Bears which happened alot lately. I saw a column in the Tribune, it stated: fire the coach, fire the GM, hire one that will fire the bad players and then fire the owner. Thought that was a interesting fun article. As Packers fan it is fun to make fun of the Bears. Good Day
Jimbo Jimbo ...... Nice having Penske on your resume. The Bears keep making the same poor decisions year in,year out, much like the politicians in the city of Chicago.Who is worse, the fan or the voter, take your pick......Bear Down.
the Mecca of motorsports ....if you are at all a racing fan of any kind you must make the pilgrimage to this hallowed ground to see at least one race in your lifetime
First Fan Friendly correction: BULLDOZE the MOUNDS of DIRT in the INFIELD. The infield built the speedway. The dirt mounds around the interior of the track were done to FORCE infield fans to the stands. Attempting to make the crowd look larger on TV? We just quit coming. Allow infield parking in all turns. Scrap the Snake Pit crap in 4 and give it back to the real race fans. The unfriendliness of the early George era forced me to end a tenure that went back to the 50's. IMS lover! Speedway native. This is 1,000 Christmases all at once. I will return after 12 years to support RP. ~30~
Bring back the original qualifying format of two weekends and four days and open practice on the first Monday of the month and gave the race be The Month of May again
Something tells me the little dirt Midget track in turn 3 will soon disappear. Other than that, because of this I'm currently very excited about the future of IndyCar.
if i won the lottery i would give it to you to hang out with me just once, you could invite some of my favorite guys and it would be the best party, maybe i can win it before some my faves are gone
I disliked Penske's craftiness over the years, but he will be a good steward for the track. The Hullman-George Family were Florida panhandle types who just wanted their pipe.
IndyCar needs more manufacturers - the current duopoly has become very stale. Allow more chassis constructors to enter as well as tire companies. Spec is boring.
There is too much safety in racing today. I don't care what you say. One of the main reasons attendance was so huge back in the day was the danger factor of motor racing. It's human nature. Fans back in the day knew that if there was a crash, most likely somebody was going to die or be seriously injured. It's morbid, but true. Good drivers back then knew how to find the limit and not go over it. Or make stupid dangerous moves.. That's what separated great drivers from the rest. The risk takers and bad decision makers didn't last too long. Now days you can make stupid bonehead moves, crash into a soft wall at over 200 mph and walk away. It's all cookie cutter cars and drivers now. Luckily I grew up in the 60's and 70's in Indianapolis and got to witness some of the best of Indy Car racing. Indy will never again be what it once was.
Well that ship has sailed ... they're here to stay. I'm confident the upcoming IndyCar redesign will incorporate the Aeroscreen into the natural lines of the car so that aesthetically it will be less objectionable.
Rogers a true visionary, best thing that could happen to the Speedway

Rip Robin Miller. Great presenter .
Two fellows I admire; Mr. Penske and Mr. Miller. Thanks, Gents. And bring back MotoGP.
Listing the fans second after safety tells me everything I need to know. He's listening to you, make your voice heard!
Fastest 33!
Fastest 33...and does this mean a bigger name for Carb Day? Those concerts haven't been good since Kid Rock in 06.
More utilization of the track = more races. Will it dilute the 500? Hmmm.

Thanks Robin, I think that is the most relaxed I've ever seen RP in an interview. He cracked a smile. He clearly likes and respects you.

Love it! I'm super excited about this! I've got tremendous respect and admiration for Roger Penske!

Best interviewer in racing, Robin Miller.

Love the interview with my uncle
Please have open consessions in turn 1 for practice days! Walking all the way to the garage area for a hot dog or a *beverage is total lunacy 😁
Amen to that! I'll bet Roger will do it.

It happened.
And the trash cans are always emptied and the bathrooms are cleaned every hour.

I’d like to see a sports car race, be it IMSA or the WEC. It shouldn’t be a 24-hour race, but it could be 6 or 8 hours and go into the evening.

Robin gets the interview, before Marshall (understandable priorities)! Oh-MY! 😯

Too bad he couldn't buy it 25 years earlier and save so much aggravation.
Penske ruined the tradition of the 500. Multi car teams should be disallowed.
Then the 500 would have been ended back in the early 1900s.
So glad Jeff George is finally gone, just sayin'
Yeah, but he's got a helluva ARM!
