Great video with very well explained steps and reasons to why things are done a certain way. I've seen a lot of videos like this and this is the best one. Thank you for working on recording and editing the video for us to learn from your expertise.

I think you have done this before. Real life, thank you for your video.

HI JAY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME FOR BEING SO TECHNICALLY CRITICAL OF YOUR VIDEO. YES. I AM A BELIEVER AND only wanted to help improve all of the You Tube posters videos by pointing out that the little details are important to those that are trying to learn from them. IN my comment I mentioned what I was talking about. The details "such as cleaning the gasket mating surface". Please have a blessed day.

Hi! Great vid. My top seal is leaking. Will do what you did because it is better to inspect and repair to go forward. Any comment on the time scale? Checking records, ours was installed 2021, drained 2023, and now this leak in Fall 2024. Shouldn't a tank last longer? ok tank. Shouldn't these seals and thermostats be better than 3-4 years? I'm a little puzzled.

Man they should last longer than that but I don't know what to tell you with the way they do things anymore...
      Thanks for watching 👍

Did it leak after or did it fix the problem?

It held well over 6 months when a second leak occurred in an unreachable location. I replaced the tank at that time but the repair held and got me through the holidays.
      Thanks for watching 👍

I would have just replaced the rubber seal gasket (which they do sell for $7) or the heater element ( $13) and done. Other parts are still functional.

      Actually...,
Both elements and seal were replaced and the leak was not coming from the sealing surface, rather from a pinhole in the weld between the threaded bung and the tank body. But thanks for your input anyway.

Well now I’m confused .. the element was or wasn’t leaking? Pin hole in the wield of tank or element? Thanks

      @JayLewisFarmStyle  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@pburtonartcom1224 Despite the attempt at helpful criticism in the original comment left by @chengone2, the pinhole was in the weld connecting the threaded bung to the tank.
The element and the seal were replaced the day prior. The pinhole was discovered the following day when the initial repair was inspected.
I apologize for any misdirection caused by the attempted helpfulness of the unhelpful.
      Thanks for watching 👍

Ours started leaking from the top, tossed it out.

Typical youtube video tht leaves out the details. If you want to help someone that isn't familliar with the project , show them the details. Such as cleaning the gasket surface and installing the gasket . I won't bother to finish watching as I have done this doezens of times myself.

For starters, I'm sorry that our free internet content isn't up to your standards. I'd encourage you to look elsewhere!
I'm a bit confused as to why someone who has done this dozens of times is watching a tutorial on the process anyway?
I went over to your channel to find the video that you took the time and effort to film, edit, and put on the internet, but it appears you don't have a video on your channel showing the way John Boughton thinks it needs to be. Do you have it posted somewhere else?
I'm interested though, at what point did you stop watching my 8 minute video to complain about it? See as a content creator I have access to the web analytics for watch time and it appears you watched about 3 minutes of the video. So I'm having trouble figuring out how you saw the end result? Maybe the Metadata is wrong.
By the way I noticed your profile picture is a collage of the names of Christ. Are you a believer? It's great to meet in fellowship with other brothers in Christ. If you are I hope your water heater issues didn't cause you to miss Sunday service yesterday.
Again, I apologize that our efforts weren't satisfactory. For what it's worth, the rest of the content on our channel would probably be disappointing to you as well.
      Have a great day!

I would understand why he didn't explain having to clean the area where the gasket sits, because to many people that would be common sense
