I've won with science many times in 3 or 4 player games. Obviously it comes down to luck also. If I'm able to get all science resources and most of the science cards in first age, then it becomes relatively easy to get a lot of points. It hurts the most if in an age most of the science cards are in 1 hand of cards. Then my opponents bury the cards before I can get them back. Also if I have Halikarnassos, then I discard science cards to get coins and then get those science cards for free.

A simple but helpful guide. Good summary of some simple tips. I think the issue with science is that a small game, such as with 3 players, it is easier to get the science cards you need. I have a buddy who loves the science cards, and in a 3 player game he usually monsters us. But in a larger game, 4 or more players, he can't monopolise them as easily. So IMO you need to compete harder for science cards in a small game.

3 Science cards = 10 points = 3.33 points per card which seems an extremely poor deal to me. Almost all non-resource cards from age 2 on will score you more than 3.33 points. Confused.

I completely disagree with his analysis of science.
Ideally you should think of 7 wonders as a game like sushi go. There is a limited pool of cards, but you have information on what cards are left in the game by what cards your opponents have played.
How does science work ? I'll explain.
Science works by squaring the score of the amount of each individual icon you have while also giving a bonus for every set you have. Let's say you have 4 tablets, 1 wheel, and one compass.
      4 tablets: 16 points
      1 wheel: 1 point
      1 compass: 1 point
      Set of 3: 7 points
Total 25 points for 6 cards. This is an average science game although if you understand how/when to play science you can get double this whenever you choose to play.
I have won the game on science multiple times, the way to play the game is to have a science wonder and then play for science and military. Science cards lead onto military cards, so you won't have to worry about paying the cost of military.
In total I have won about 6/15 games using science and 2/15 games using other means.

@@Goron1988 I have a buddy who loves the science strategy and he is a brute to try and beat. Not sure how good this would be in a game with more players though. When there are only a few players, it is a killer strategy.

Science isnt affected by larger player counts. War is though as you influence a lower percentage of people when the player count is strategy. I think that the only reason science is so powerful is because people dont choose science as they think its underpowered.

i have played quite some games of 7w with 4-5 players, each decent strategists. one of the guys collected the data of all games (plus that from another group he plays 7w with). the statistics were pretty clear, what won the most games by far is what we call the red-blue-strategy, so going for military and blue buildings. this seems to be the most consistant one...

@@OPShergottite I have played around 30 games online and this is untrue to me. The problem with the blue buildings is that everyone is grabbing at least a couple of them so you're usually missing on some of the big ones. Also there is a purple card that allows an opponent next to you to profit off of your blue cards by giving them one point per blue card. If you have 10, that is 10 extra more points to their existing strategy which will often backfire and make you lose that game. The green cards are overpowered if you get to stack a lot of them, otherwise the purple cards can reinforce any strategy if you're lucky enough to get the one you need.
