Bandy Lee is an American treasure. I appreciate her work and her very astute observations regarding trump. She hits the nail on the head every single time.
I have come to this from reading about Dr Bandy Lee losing her position at Yale. I then watched another interview where she was bullied and yet maintained her professionalism. It takes great courage for a shy person like this to stick to her standards ; she has never been in it for any personal gain or to support any political position. Kudos to you lady .
I saw that just recently that she lost her position at Yale. She's suing them and I hope she wins. I also have learned not to trust the APA because of their stance on their new laws basically gagging anybody in their association from speaking out like Dr. Lee has. I have to wonder how many in that body are narcissists and sociopaths.

I spent years with a covert malignant narcissist and I can see the narcissism clearly in Donald Trump and to have someone like that in the most powerful position in the world is very very scary. I went no contact with my family, got an amazing therapist who specialized in trauma to treat my PTSD and then my country was being run by a Narcissist!! Praise to Mary Trump here, a well trained professional woman who is also able to allow herself to be analysed by an equally well trained and professional clinician. It takes great emotional courage to submit to counseling and be vulnerable, and yet that is what we need to do to grow and change and become a healthier version of ourselves. Mary's strength and inner character of integrity and ethics really comes through - for both women here, for sure. One day this Trump mishigaz will all be over and gone and we will be able to go back to just being people, in all our flaws and strengths but without the fascist character disordered leaders.

We are scared. We know this man has made enemies of our former allies by his words and actions. The only reason for the insane number of supporters of this thug-con that makes sense to me, and many others who have studied and written on the subject, is a cult phenomenon of historic proportion. It’s like we need a deprogramming system of historic proportion to deal with it, and that seems to be something out of reach. As an only child who lived in a highly dysfunctional family with a father who set his will up in such a way that I would only get the inheritance that the will promised when I was 50 years old. He placed 2 family members as trustees at the gate, so to speak. If that isn't control from the grave, I don't know what is. In addition, my father was an alcoholic as was my mother. I was the scapegoat they blamed. This leaves one scarred and highly confused, full of self-blame that I carried for years. My mother died in 1981 and my father in 1988. I am 71 now and only just now fully emerging from the dysfunction I carried on my back like a saddle. I only began to heal and move forward once they were deceased.

At first I reacted negatively to what you came out with, because normally, psychiatric assessments are strictly confidential as well as being disputed by patients who have felt victimized. . BUT I realized there was danger, by what I was witnessing in the news.. Then your knowledge became invaluable. I see the professional ethics of warning against behavior you are so trained to detect and protect society from. .
The difference between the clinical assessments you are talking about, the ones that are protected by privacy laws and this one, is that DJT was not a private patient of theirs, and all of the material they based their assessments upon was available to everybody else too. Anybody who has seen DJT behave has this information. A trained professional is more likely to understand its significance and see the danger it poses and hence appreciate the duty to warn if that professional sees it there. There is no expectation of privacy broken no breach of trust here whatsoever. Were he a patient and this were private information, it would be a different matter, but the information is just as available to us.

As a flock, we need to take warning sign seriously, though. The responsibility over lethal weapons of mass destruction heightens the need for caution.
The Psychological breaking of confidentiality is when it is the Therapists obligation to the society we live in. If I were a therapist and had a client who confidently admitted to me they wanted and were plotting to kill their wife . It would be my responsibility to inform the authorities of this concern. Do you remember The shooting in Aurora Colorado the Therapist of the JOker tried to warn the police but there was communication issues. The system failed the victims from the incedent from happening. Each state has a law that says we as citizens if we have a problmatic neighbor. Say one comeing at us with a gun and saying nonsense to us or someone else. The authorities would need to be notified. I welcome anyone to check me on this becausse of Dsygraphia.

This is such an important interview. It deserves many, many, many more views. As a survivor of narcissistic abuse, I have for a long time been incredibly disheartened by the silence, at best, of mental health professionals on issues surrounding the fallout from Cluster B behavioural patterns. It's hurtful, honestly. It compounds the sense of hopelessness people like me are already so inclined to feel. Of course professionals have a responsibility to the people with these outwardly destructive pathologies, and a lot of the time, there shouldn't be any reason to overrule that responsibility. But sometimes the risk of collateral damage is too great, and I wish the APA would take that seriously. If all goes well, I'll be joining the mental health profession in the near future and I fully intend to lend my voice to this gaping area of neglect in the field.
Many jobs require personality tests. For narcissism there are tests too. Here's some more truth. Not a shred of ethics in Trump. Trump has no empathy. People are objects to him, not real people. Look for malignant overt narcissist on YT. Read the comments. Look for Narcissism in general on YT. Read the comments. It's Trump's biography. Trump's mentally ill. He has NPD. His narrative is confabulating to distort your view of reality. It's what narcs do to make you question yourself or in order not to aswer your question. Inform yourself on this topic. They can be anybody. People are married to a narc and thinking it's themselves who are the crazy one. Kids are suffering abuse every way every day. It can be a co-worker upsetting you everytime you meet. Learn the red flags. Trump's one of many who are harmfull to others on a daily basis. They are devils disguised as people like you and me. No love, only hate. Till the day they die. All from childhood trauma. Their closest are abused the most. So it's our problem.
I read Mary's book when it was first published. For someone raised in the culture in which she was to be so analytical and candid must have been hard but yet cathartic. She has come so far since then and I know what it is to be an outlier in your family. She and her father were the only two sane people in that family. She never let the fact that he is who he is, and a relative, affect her evaluation of his diagnoses. I am happy she has her own podcast now. She has escaped that malignant family with her true self intact.

I have come to this from reading about Dr Bandy Lee losing her position at Yale. I then watched another interview where she was bullied and yet maintained her professionalism. It takes great courage for a shy person like this to stick to her standards ; she has never been in it for any personal gain or to support any political position. Kudos to you lady .
I saw that just recently that she lost her position at Yale. She's suing them and I hope she wins. I also have learned not to trust the APA because of their stance on their new laws basically gagging anybody in their association from speaking out like Dr. Lee has. I have to wonder how many in that body are narcissists and sociopaths.

I’m only 4 minutes in, but what a great interview!!!!!!!! Dr. Bandy Lee as an expert in her field (and she obviously has a heart!) and Dr. Mary Trump who can look at her upbringing objectively with logic (not many people can do that!).
Wow….today is 9/10/24- four years after this interview was taped… it STILL holds true… so many observations that came true as we learned more . But still, mental professionals are not allowed to share their expertise- meanwhile people are eager to know, to make sense of what is going on.

I spent years with a covert malignant narcissist and I can see the narcissism clearly in Donald Trump and to have someone like that in the most powerful position in the world is very very scary. **Coming from someone born into a family creepy crawling with Cluster B Personality Disorder. I went no contact with my family, got an amazing therapist who specialized in trauma to treat my PTSD and then my country was being run by a Narcissist!! Now it wasn't just my immediate family and their flying monkeys 🐒 but my whole country (or at least about half). More traumatizing than I like to admit, but so grateful for Biden. It takes great emotional courage to submit to counseling and be vulnerable, and yet that is what we need to do to grow and change and become a healthier version of ourselves. Agree! As an only child who lived in a highly dysfunctional family with a father who set his will up in such a way that I would only get the inheritance that the will promised when I was 50 years old. He placed 2 family members as trustees at the gate, so to speak.
If that isn't control from the grave, I don't know what is.
In addition, my father was an alcoholic as was my mother. I was the scapegoat they blamed. This leaves one scarred and highly confused, full of self-blame that I carried for years. My mother died in 1981 and my father in 1988. I am 71 now and only just now fully emerging from the dysfunction I carried on my back like a saddle. I only began to heal and move forward once they were deceased.

At first I reacted negatively to what you came out with, because normally, psychiatric assessments are strictly confidential as well as being disputed by patients who have felt victimized. .
BUT I realized there was danger, by what I was witnessing in the news.. Then your knowledge became invaluable. I see the professional ethics of warning against behavior you are so trained to detect and protect society from.

The difference between the clinical assessments you are talking about, the ones that are protected by privacy laws and this one, is that DJT was not a private patient of theirs, and all of the material they based their assessments upon was available to everybody else too. Anybody who has seen DJT behave has this information. A trained professional is more likely to understand its significance and see the danger it poses and hence appreciate the duty to warn if that professional sees it there. There is no expectation of privacy broken no breach of trust here whatsoever. Were he a patient and this were private information, it would be a different matter, but the information is just as available to us.

The Psychological breaking of confidentiality is when it is the Therapists obligation to the society we live in. If I were a therapist and had a client who confidently admitted to me they wanted and were plotting to kill their wife . It would be my responsibility to inform the authorities of this concern. Do you remember The shooting in Aurora Colorado the Therapist of the JOker tried to warn the police but there was communication issues. The system failed the victims from the incedent from happening. Each state has a law that says we as citizens if we have a problmatic neighbor. Say one comeing at us with a gun and saying nonsense to us or someone else. The authorities would need to be notified. I welcome anyone to check me on this becausse of Dsygraphia.

As a survivor of narcissistic abuse, I have for a long time been incredibly disheartened by the silence, at best, of mental health professionals on issues surrounding the fallout from Cluster B behavioural patterns. It's hurtful, honestly. It compounds the sense of hopelessness people like me are already so inclined to feel.
Of course professionals have a responsibility to the people with these outwardly destructive pathologies, and a lot of the time, there shouldn't be any reason to overrule that responsibility. But sometimes the risk of collateral damage is too great, and I wish the APA would take that seriously. If all goes well, I'll be joining the mental health profession in the near future and I fully intend to lend my voice to this gaping area of neglect in the field.

I read Mary's book when it was first published. For someone raised in the culture in which she was to be so analytical and candid must have been hard but yet cathartic. She has come so far since then and I know what it is to be an outlier in your family. She and her father were the only two sane people in that family. She never let the fact that he is who he is, and a relative, affect her evaluation of his diagnoses. I am happy she has her own podcast now. She has escaped that malignant family with her true self intact.

The statement above (I didn’t realize it Appeared above my clarification about who the people who made the statement were the same people that Bandy X. Lee MD. was talking about. She edited two books, both bestsellers, one in 2017 with 27 psychiatrists and then a second book in 2019 with 37 psychiatrists who made the statement above.

With half the adult population now afflicted followers, we need a psychiatric assessment of them. They are steering the immediate politics of the US, and seem ready to drink the cool-aid. Even if the 2024 election goes blue and he is jailed, half the population will remain a national security issue.

I can relate to this very much. In my case, I too, am a mess, but not the only mess, as my family sees it. Its been a long, hard, road trying to make sense of and heal from a family that is resolutely determined to acknowledge their own faults, while celebrating the discussion and determination of my faults.
