    I hold the piece being drilled in the water while drilling. Sure fire way to keep both the stone and the drill bit cool while working. Overheating can cause both the stone and the drill bit to break, and doing it in water helps the diamond bit last longer. I really like how you started the hole with that tiny round bit.

    I'm going to be drilling mostly 6 - 7 hardness gems, so this gives me a decent idea

    look into drip irrigation fittings you can build an entire manifold with nothing more than a few packs of fittings and a chunk of half inch mainline tubing. each line can have a valve so in your case u can just have it drip very lightly

    Hello
    I am making beaded bracelets and sometimes the holes on 10mm or 8mm beads are too tight to string them with 1mm stretch magic cord. What drill and bit should i buy on your site. Thanks

    • @electrojewelerjordan490
      @electrojewelerjordan490  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Felicia! I would recommend this 1mm long bit, and I'll add a couple of 1.5mm also. If you want to pass 2 pieces of cord through I also have 2mm , this makes it easier to hide the knot. thanks!

    Jordan, is it feasible to clamp the stones in a small vice and drip water onto them ?

    • @electrojewelerjordan490

      Yes, if it's an iron vise make sure to oil it and clean out the stone dust. Another way either with or without a vise is to use hot glue like in my pearl carving video. Enjoy 😊

    where did you find such uneven faceted chrysoprase? i love but i can only find evenly faceted gems

    • @electrojewelerjordan490
      @electrojewelerjordan490  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching. I used to partner with a faceter, I would give him a preform and he would polish the facets. Faceting machines are designed for symmetry so it's hard to get a cutter to do these cuts.

    • @bettybho2168
      @bettybho2168 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The peice he's using is is just a roughly faceted stone, these types of facets can very easily be done on a cabbing wheel or a flat lap it doesn't take any real skill.

    I make paracord bracelets (using micro paracord 1.18mm) and I purchased some gemstone beads to use (white howlite, onyx, tigereye, and lapis) and found the holes were too small for use with the paracord. Any suggestions on how to enlarge the holes? I do have a decent set of Dremel bits. BTW, the stones are 4-6mm in diameter. Thanks

    • @electrojewelerjordan490
      @electrojewelerjordan490  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      CW, thanks for watching! The small size will make it tough to hold but it can be done. The onyx and Tiger eye will be less likely to break so try those first. Place in water to fill hole. Use a straight bit, tapered bits will get stuck easily. Drill from both sides. Keep wet. The howlite and lapis are soft and will be a bit difficult to drill, but can also be done with practice. If you have issues you can email me at my ETSY shop with a pic of the bead, the cord and the bit that you are using. I can probably help you trouble shoot. Happy drilling!

      @@electrojewelerjordan490 Thank you very much. I've gotten pretty good at making paracord bracelets and wanted o expand from using plastic beads to actual gemstones, but didn't take into account the size difference for the holes (my bad!). The stones I get come on a piece of fishing line that measures 0.35mm. I made a bead holder from a clothes pin ( I know how hot the beads will get!) to make it easier to hold the beads while I drill them (it works pretty well as long as they don't spin).

    • @electrojewelerjordan490
      @electrojewelerjordan490  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can drill under water, and the clothes pin is a good idea! A ball bur may be easier to use on the soft stones.

      4mm might be alittle small for 1.1 i came to the same dilemma when i was in the beginning of making jewlery (wanting to use a large cord for small beads) imo you just hacve to get large beads and make theholes bigger as well as look for beads wlarger holes and when youre finding beads type in "large hole beads" if you dont want to drill every bead you get and continue using the micro paracord

      d d Thank you for your support! In general the ones from those places are not all that good at drilling as the shape is wrong and the layer of diamond is really thin so they burn out quickly. I will do a video on that. I do sell these on my website www.electrojewelerjordan.com. If you don't want to order these but have a set in mind feel free to send me a link and I can advise you on the set. electrojewelerjordan@gmail.com
