lok bak go | radish cake (dim sum turnip cake) recipe / resipi lobak goreng

Lok Bak Go is a classic Asian dish, popular in Malaysia and Singapore. It is also referred as radish cake, carrot cakes or simply “lobak’ as a favorite street food. The recipe is actually simple though it may look difficult.
Ingredients:
A: To prepare radish cake
Medium radish (sliced) | lobak (potong kecil)
1 cup rice flour | 1 cawan tepung beras
1 tbsp corn starch | 1 tbsp tepung jagung
1 cup water | 1 cawan air
A pinch of black pepper | secubit serbuk lada hitam
1.5 tbsp dried shrimp | 1.5 tbsp udang kering
Few mushroom | beberapa cendawan
Salt for taste | garam secukupnya
1 tsp Sugar | 1 tsp gula
(cook and steam | masak dan kukus)
… deep fry the radish cake for better taste | goreng kek lobak dahulu
B : Lok Bak Go
1 egg | 1 telur
2 clove diced garlic | 2 ulas bawang putih dipotong kecil
1 tbsp chili paste | 1 tbsp cili sambal
Chili | cili
1 tbsp light soy sauce | 1 tbsp kicap cair
Deep fried radish cake | kek lobak goreng
Chive leaves | daun kuchai
Beans sprouts | taugeh

I have only recently discovered radish cakes … frozen and they tasted great so I have been looking for a recipe to make these at home and I love the look of the Lok bak go. I will definitely have to try it out. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

I've made once like 10years back using recipes from bloggers (cooking channel wasn't that popular back then) and it turned into one messy blob, it didn't set well. Your recipe definitely worth a second attempt 😅
*Why in some recipes they mentioned turnip? Do they really use that?
