This helped me quite a bit. Thanks for mentioning which motherboard screw was a little longer! I did not remove the trackball. I used a combination of dental floss (which only worked on the side batteries) and a small plastic drywall putty knife to get out the center batteries.

Phenomenal video! Excellent quality, excellent advice, and excellent tips and specs on screwdrivers special tools etc. I couldn't nor wouldn't have attempted this without your video. I used the scrape method to remove the batteries as shown, but I didn't have a scraping tool on hand. I ended up using a hacksaw blade, which is pretty flimsy when not attached. I used a bench grinder to file off the cutting teeth. I ended up cutting into and arcing one battery pack using this tool, but it didn't harm the computer. Still wondering what happened when the awful decision was made to use adhesive to hold the batteries in place! Thanks again! Keep it up!

Get the computer outside away from flammable things.

I moved it out to the covered porch (it's raining.) But then what? It's open, and I was separating the left half of the battery from the shell when it happened.

As long as you disconnected the battery before it happened, you should be fine. Hopefully you followed the video carefully.

I had similar issues. Would be great if you can share some techniques to avoid such problems. Thanks!

They aren't blades. It's a spatula. Been doing this over 10 years without any issues.

    Great video - well done!
Personally, I don't trust myself not to destroy my MacBook for the sake of $100 saving :-)

That is not dental floss, but dental tape, which is different.

Use alcohol and hotel room keys to get the batteries loose.

Lol I don't think the hotels will appreciate that

As someone who's done this for over 20 years, you NEVER use a metal tool when working with batteries. ALWAYS use Plastic spudgers. Second, ISO Alcohol is your best friend when it comes to adhesives. Great video, but you really could cause injury to your self and the equipment you're using by using metal pry tools around batteries. All of us professionals do NOT use metal only plastic. Check Ifixit for additional tools that will help make this process easier for you and safer.

Why be difficult, when, with a bit of effort, you can be FNG impossible!!

Yup, aim to be the best at being impossible to repair. Lol
