Wow, am mesmerized by your wisdom your eloquence your sense of dignity & of course your innate beauty your courage to stand in front of a room & state your truth. I may go on forever with verbs that describe how special & rare of a person you grew up to be, may your lovely parents be proud of Hamda MY SOMALI POET.
I learned something from HAMDA YUSUF as I AM 40 yrs old " the truthful acceptance you are the correct guidance 😃 your greatest display. thank you "mahad sanid"
I am So Proud Of u Girl wow!!! Im born In Europe , Have lived here my Whole Life , My daughter is 2 now And I hope she Will be accepted more than I have been growing up as A somali (African) and muslim Have really not been Easy :/ Ya Allah ,
I love it when i see young somalis stepping up. Gives me hope that many will grow to become diversely educated and maybe one day, they will return to rebuild our country.
wow!!! Hamda you are a posstive image of our Somali community in the West and i like to thank you for your brave and fearless delivery. My Beautiful Sister
Hamda Yusuf, you make me praud beeing exile, somali, muslim and black in west countries. I wish i could come contact with you Hamda and learn from you. Well done.
This deserves waaaaaaay moore than one like & seven views!! Breaking down the ridged shells Created by an apposing society And reinforced by our own insecurities, Enabling us and empowering us all to speak our our story, and find the voice to do so as well
funny and smart, mashAllah!! her earlier point about been too black & not black enough, been too muslim & not muslim enough etc, rang true with me sadly...
I relate with u here I feel like sometimes I don't fit in this society because I am a woman, black and muslim, but than again I realized that I do fit somewhere that is not in the west and that its my fault to stay in a society which I will never fit in nor my children will,,,,,so save your self and try to find some were you do fit in instead of defending and explaining yourself. If we do stay know that our children will suffer the way we did
I love you Sister👏 Ham 👏da,! I love all my Muslim Sisters and brothers and I love all of my “Not Yet Muslim” sisters and brothers. I have a question please, that maybe you or any “other than white skinned” person” can answer. I’ve often wondered about this throughout the past 8 years or so... Allah made my skin white. I know for sure that Allah created Adam a.s. using water and every shade of sand which He swt created so that we will come to know and recognize and appreciate all of the different tribes around the world. “O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted” (Quran 49:13). So while our most prominent exterior differences (and least importance to Him) is our skin color, our most prominent internal difference is our level of righteousness (adherence to God’s Word). My skin is white. I wear hijab. (I’m a convert from Christianity Alhamdulillah) Because of my hijab I’m known as a Muslim. I am Despite my identity as a Muslim, I’ve come to learn that I’m treated better than dark skin Muslims. I’m more approachable. I live in America. It’s just the way it is. When I’m gathered among many Muslim sisters I don’t think about our differences in appearance at all. I thought about it once after the gathering that I was the only white skinned sister there. (Of maybe 10 sisters) and I thought “Alhamdulillah! I don’t “see” skin Color. So I consider myself “skin color blind” It doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten the reality of prejudice. It means I’m happy with Allah for allowing me to see people’s character and not their external features. I mostly can’t recall what a sister was wearing half the time or even their height or weight. My question is: Why is it offensive to people of color when a person says “I’m skin color blind”. It means I’m not biased or inclined towards paying attention to skin color. It’s not on my mind the vast majority of the time except for when I’m advocating equality or frankly, reflecting on a Sisters beauty... because it’s no secret that generally skin with more melanin makes most women look younger than that of white people of the same age. It’s true!! However I’m mostly not thinking that. I dont want to offend people of color so I’ve never said I’m color blind when it comes to skin color. Don’t forget to “like” or else I wont be notified of a comment.

I love it when i see young somalis stepping up. Gives me hope that many will grow to become diversely educated and maybe one day, they will return to rebuild our country.
If they are still making excuses for FGM, the treatment of women, terrorism, and slavery in those countries I dont have much hope.
