    So I wanted to give you some feedback on some of those:
    - Pabstia jugosa is quite rare in cultivation indeed. Main reason being its quite the finicky one. Loves intermediate to just warm temperatures with high humidity. This one doesnt have a CAM metabolism so daytime humidity really impacts its health as far as the Brazilian growers I asked told me. It is a monotipic genus closely related to Zygopetalum (easy to see the similar flowers and foliage), and it has been use in some of the blue Zygopetalum hybrids. Flowers should be slightly fragrant. I really love how unique the flowers are and almost purchase one but it really wouldnt go well with my hot and dry summers. (27C average and 40% RH)
    - Oerstedella pseudoshumanniana: I think it was merged back into Epidendrum, but I like this genus name XD I have one plant from the same batch from Schwerter. It is NOT pendant, but likes good light and will grow towards it like crazy. In nature it grows fully upwards and erect. So far mine is in thin bark and has been growing roots very very nicely. These like intermediate to warm temperatures and high humidity as well. I could see leaves on mine wrinkling a bit due to lack of humidity. I also LOVE the texture on the stems, didnt notice it until I received it. Mine seems to attrack spider mites like crazy, so be wary of that. I found mites twice already since February.
    - The Lycaste primary hybrid seems to be an intergeneric judging by the parent pictures. The fulvescens should be a Sudamerlycaste, formerly Ida. At first they were all Lycastes but its been a while since then. All Sudamerlycastes grow to a hefty size and come from a rather high altitude around the Andes so they really appreciate a cooldown during night time, and will tolerate warm days as long as they have that. Don't know how relisient it becomes when crossed with the other Lycaste but I'm almost sure it won't like hot days.
    Hope this was somewhat helpful to you, hope you have success with them. Hoping we can both see blooms from the Oerstedella next year :)

My orchid was slowly falling and I watched your video of how to know what the leaves on your orchid means, and then I figured out that my orchid was dehitrated and that was because I wasnt watering him correctly. I got 3 small of Dendrobium senile plants as freebies last year when I bought a Chysis limminghei that turned out to be quite small and the seller gave me that as a compensation. They all bloomed last January and their flowers last well over a month. So I did a small experiment and mounted one of them on a slab, another one I potted on Sphagnum moss and another one on a wooden slab with sphagnum moss So far all of them are doing good, but for some reason the one on the pot seems to grow slower. I never knew they were considered cool growers, where I live we have 35C up temperatures most of the time and they don't show too much distress, I just water them whenever the moss looks dry. Unlike Dendrobium lindleyi that I used to buy several times and always dies for some reason :(
    Fun fact is that in Thailand, people call it Mue Chanee, which means Gibbon hand, this is because during it's resting leafless period (its a deciduous orchid), it's hairy pseudobulbs look like hairy long fingers like those of a Gibbon.

  • @TheMisbegotten
    @TheMisbegotten 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This might be a bit long, I apologize... So, two things. I have two oncidium orchids, one who was in great condition when I got her has one psudobulb with no leaves and I wondered if she is likely to grow new leaves from them now that she is living in more appropriate circumstances.
    My other question is about my first who literally had no roots to save who had two psudobulbs drop off when I was repotting after the blooms died. Both psudobulbs are green, but shriveled like you expect. The main and biggest with a fair amount of leaves has a tiny (as I named it) psudosprig next to her that will be a new psudobulb, however the other two do not. These two are still green, one has a single leaf, the smaller one does not. How likely do you think that they will maybe throw a new psudosprig and how likely do you think the smallest with no leaves at all will grow a new leaf?
    I live in phoenix arizona in the US and most people tell me I must be gifted to keep them alive. What I don't tell them, unless they tell me they wanna try growing them too, is that I watch your videos lol. My set up is not all that fancy/pretty in front of my south and shaded window, the grow lights I use are just for extra light because frankly they seem to have loved my adding it. I even have a humidifier next to them and I do on occasion mist with distilled water as frankly while the impact for humidity doesn't last long, none of my plants are dusty either. Ugh dusting, I cannot stress how quickly it gets dusty inside.
    tinyurl.com/ycdl7q98 - because I also think a vid might make things easier.
    tinyurl.com/yafvvslo - the three when they were one, just after I got her, she is so pretty!
    tinyurl.com/yaw5tlt2 - last but not least, my prettiest one yet, the one with just the one psudobulb without leaves.
    I wish I knew the names for them! :3

    I have battled to find anything on the oerstedella orchids. I have an oerstedella schweinfurthiana epidendrum and I love it, but it has never bloomed, apparently they only bloom when they reach 1m or just over a meter. I have had it 2 years now and its amazing to watch with all the roots that grow so well. Please please if you can, could you please make a video on just the oerstedella species. They are actually overlooked and so beautiful♡ absolutely love all of your videos

    Hey Dany! How are you? Best of luck with your new beauties! I have a off topic question what made you give up the semi-hidro setup? Because I plan to give up mine as well because I have lots of issues regarding it. I was wondering what did you experient? The goods the bads? Thank you for sharing the nice video

    • @MissOrchidGirl

      Hi, thanks so much! Honestly the maintenance. The brands I had locally were always in the skies with the ph. Also the drying out part, I just need something more even and moist. Moss is the medium that best suits my environment and it was becoming very visible, I couldn't look at the orchids in leca anymore 😋

    • @ionescuionut5041
      @ionescuionut5041 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      MissOrchidGirl I understand, well in my case I had to do a larger reservoir and combine different tips of mediums in the pot, but my biggest issue was the ph no matter what I have done... But anyway I'm going to switch back to bark and sphagnum moss. I tried to find a video to know exactly what made you give up the semi-hidro setup. But anyway the ph problem convinced me a lot. Having a ph of 8.04 after 3-4 hours was definitely not beneficial to my collection. Gladly I didn't lost anyone so far.

    I LOVE YOUR NEW LITTLE PERSON! :-D She is so cute!
    Have you ever experienced an orchid that seems to grow TOO much on the flower spike which ends up causing the buds to smothered in happy sap, in result no blooms. This is what I observed with my Epi Muira Valley. She bloomed in early sping, and then started a new spike on the biggest growth. The spike got twice as big as the previous spike, and seemed to excrete an INSANE amount of sap which ended up making the flower buds fall off one by one. Any ideas how to avoid this? Maybe I have been using TOO much fertilizer?

    • @moopmeow
      @moopmeow 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      phals (and monopodials in general) don't grow terminal spikes, are you sure it's a phal? a lot of sympodial orchids will grow terminal spikes, and then they'll grown new growths. otherwise i'm not sure why something would be growing from the crown

    Hey Danny, I ordered orchids from a greenhouse and my cattlya roots died within 2 days. I called them for advice and was reprimanded for re-potting their orchids and to NEVER re-pot them. Do you have any opinion on this??

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, yep never buy from them again 😉 there's no such thing as never repot them, that's like saying never wash your clothes. You just have to know how to do it in a more adequate way for the 'product', that's all. Like clothes have different temperatures where it's safe to wash them, Cattleyas have a few things to keep in mind. And Catts do have finicky roots, but here is my complete tutorial and repotting th-cam.com/video/vgHaLpN7nb4/w-d-xo.html hope it will help you with future orchids. Don't give up on Cattleyas, they are gorgeous! Try finding more helpful nurseries though. Good luck and remember you can always search for any topic through my video archive, I have about 2000 videos! 🧡

    I tried to order from repot me, but when I went to checkout, it said it doesn’t deliver to Florida. Where are they located at? I tried to find the clear plastic pots in garden centers and nurseries, but I can’t find any place that sells them. I once went to a orchid nursery and the guy looked at me like I was crazy when I asked if they sell them. He had a bunch of empty used pots and just gave me a few, but I’d like to buy them.

      rePotme is located in Delaware. If you go to their website, scroll to the bottom, and click on the "contact us" link you will see their address, phone, and email. It may be a mistake with their website that they wouldn't ship to Florida so you may want to call or email them.
