Brian's honesty when asked if he wanted to help is what I'm here for. Most people would have tried to excuse it cause you're recording, Brian straight up "no" had me laughing so hard!
if you are used to baking ...yes it is easy but for me.... not so much a beginner anymore.... i found myself having a hard time scaling, and preparing the ingredients.
All of his recipes are easy. I’ve tried soo many without fail. Macarons, cinnamon rolls, pumpkin pie, crust, oatmeal creme pies. Literally fail proof. If you can read and follow directions you can make all of his yummy dishes
I died laughing at "If I'm going to be a good hype man, I'm going to need more coffee." My husband has said this to me while I was baking or him reading my manuscript LOL 🤣 Thank you for another amazing recipe!
I love Brian's "support" in this episode. I laughed so hard because this sounds exactly like my husband and I when I'm working on something I'm excited about.
So we’re just not going to talk about the fact that John not only has a drawer devoted to sprinkles, but it’s immaculately organized? Okay… Guess it’s just me. I’m kidding. I’m just jealous. I wish I had my life that together. Love your videos.
Wow, looks grand! What makes this movie worth watching is not to mention, it's you, cuz you look so happy that you make viewers happy. Some people are made for this, and that's you.
Ingredients: 1 3/4 cups flour 3/4 tsp Baking Soda 1/2 tsp Salt 1/2 cup Room Temperature Unsalted Butter 3/4 cup Light Brown Sugar 1/4 cup Granulated Sugar 1 large egg 2 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 cup Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
This is a great cookie/cake recipe. It so reminds me of something my mother use to make which she called a giant pan cookie and was made in a 9X12 cake pan. So scrumptious as I'm sure this recipe is and will be when I make it. When I was in college my mother made her giant pan cookie even larger using the roasting pan...and she'd make 3 of those for me to take back to college after breaks. My friends and I would feast out for a few days on these giant pan cookies. We'd have our "milk and cookies" get-togethers in mine and my roommate's room. I know it sounds corny for college guys to do milk and cookies. I actually attended a small private Christian college for my first 2 years of college and we were kind of conservative but had the most fun on earth and my friends from those days remain friends and those giant pan cookies remain memorable. Thank you for uploading your delicious version with the frosting (something I look forward to adding), and as always I collect your great cookie recipes.

Hey i just made this cookie cake for my brothers birthday! And it was sooo good, Thanks for this recipe!! Also, if anyone is wondering you can use a silicone cake tin if you don't have a metal one that's the correct size.
Love this recipe! It really is pretty easy! I made it for my son’s 3rd birthday cake. I followed the same measurements, but replaced all purpose flour with Bob’s Red Mill Gluten Free Flour and also replaced the egg with 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce to make the cookie cake gluten free and egg free! It was delicious!
Omggggg!!! I made it last night and it was mega delicious! Im completely new to baking and after failed attempts on other recipes from other chefs, this one made me proud and happy ❤ thank you!!!! 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
Brian in this episode 🤣🤣 I really love seeing positive wholesome content. I will definitely be trying this recipe. Your biscuits have become a staple in my house since 2 weeks ago lol .
Just tried the recipe! Absolutely love it!! Mine took only 22 minutes to bake, and if you use a stand-up mixer, you'll have to scrape the sides a Lot! Definitely recommend!!
You're so amazing! I was never a baker, I hated all the math and precision but I've gotten more into it the last several years (even though almost never eat sugar, my kids do! And we can all agree homemade, controlling the ingredients is healthier and tastier). Every recipe of yours that I've tried has come out divine and I've been saving in my recipe box. My kids enjoy doing your recipes themselves too, thanks so much for sharing your talent and clear joy of cooking ❤️
John you and Brian are the most charming couple. If Brian was in more of your videos I think it would be delightful. Your children are adorable! I watch your videos not just for recipes and tips but for the warm homey feeling and humor they provide. Your videos make me happy 😊 (By the way... Who's Jed?)
thank you, John! I am not sure what I enjoy more, your choice of recipes, your clear instructions, your presentation, or your utter joy in making them. That's a lot of enjoys...!
hi John ! I made this for my son's birthday, and added a brownie layer and a peanut butter cookie layer from your recipes. It really was easy to make : ) The cake was awesome, and came in weighing about 5 pounds !! Thank you for sharing !
I use silicone pans. No flowering or butter needed. They come out beautifully. And as a frosting, I use melted down Nutella chocolate spread❤ For a birthday cake I make 2 and fill with my homemade vanilla bean ice cream, the children love it. And so do adults😅
This is a family recipe someone got from a baker friend. It is so fabulous. Wanted to share it with you. This is great on chocolate cake Whipped Cream Icing Best if kept refrigerated. Cake must be completely cold before icing. Ingredients 1 C whole milk 3 T flour 1 stick butter ½ C Crisco 1 C sugar 1 t vanilla Directions Cook milk and sifted flour on low heat until thick, constantly stirring with whisk so that it doesn’t burn. If it starts to boil, remove it from the heat immediately. It’s done and will get thicker as it cools. Put in the refrigerator, putting cling wrap directly touching it while it is cooling. Cream butter, Crisco and sugar. Add vanilla and the cooled mixture. Beat well until it stands up like whipped cream. If the icing seems sugary, it needs to be whipped more
Even though the video is older and I watch all your videos and have for some time, coming back to watch as this will be my daughter's birthday cake. She's not a fan of actual cake. She'll be 16 the day after Christmas as I've been baking my kids cakes since their first birthdays. She also wants Crème Brule (family favorite recipe) so we'll be full of sugar that night, haha.
This was really simple and quick to make while also tasting great! Make sure to let it cool ALL the way in the pan or it will be a mess 😅 of course it came out perfectly using John’s method once it was cooled.
Omg the sprinkle drawer gives me life! I love your videos! I’m a grad student and your videos really help with the stress and anxiety from school and overall life. Probably sounds a bit strange, but your videos really do help me get through the day. I’ve tried several of your recipes and they’re awesome! I bought a kitchen scale and everything 😅
My sister and I made this and it actually tasted AMAZING! our first time trying one of your recipes too!! this was the first time we made a recipe where it actually came out SO TASTY, delicious, and was super easy to assemble and make. I love your channel so much and am so inspired by your skill! your kids are so cute too:)
After making your brookies and your cream cheese cookies....and ate the majority of it all within a week, I guess you can say I happily gained a few pounds and call it the Preppy Kitchen diet. Now I have a new recipe to make. Thanks John! lol
This video was a joy to watch. You are just like me when I'm in the kitchen baking and I ask my boyfriend if he wants to help! His favorite dessert is also cookie cake! He loves it I will definitely use this recipe for his birthday. Absolutely beautiful cake!
My mom made one a week ago and is making one tomorrow to make it better it’s really good I love them. My mom also makes good donuts and of corse the other stuff like ice cream cake, cake, cookies
Made this today (cookie cake yesterday, frosting today) and turned out really well! A bit more brown sugar to my palate and the cookie cake was reeeeaaally sweet so maybe next time I'd use less sugar (or even something coconut?). Waa fun to make and fun to eat. Thanks! 😊
Couldn't find my pipe bags so I just spread the frosting on a third of the cake shaping it as if it has a bite taken out already, everybody loved it. Although kids fought about getting a piece with frosting.
I just love your videos, they always make me laugh and make my day. I remember I started following you back in 2020 when of course, we were all locked in here in Spain and I did nothing but cooking everyday lol Thank you for your talent!
I'm going to try baking this with my sister in law today! :) She's 9, and has upgraded from wanting to bake cookies to cake! I figured this was a smooth transition for her first cake. Will comment with how it goes later!!
@@PreppyKitchen It went so well!! 😍 I haven't tried it yet, and keeping the kids from eating it before dinner is a handful (Giving them cups of frosting with sprinkles is a good distraction!) But it looks so yummy!!
I wanna do this for the holidays omg a big cookie!! Also, I did make the brookies recipe this saturday and it was a success, so successful that i didnt get to eat a piece! I only got to eat small pieces of the corners because I made it at night (with the help of my little sister) and since it needed to cool down and chill I told her it would be better to let it there until the next morning, so yeah, the next day I went downstairs and the container where I stored it was already in the sink, no crumbs, nothing! haha so ive learned my lesson for this cookie cake and im gonna make as early as possible
I’m in love with your stove….. would love to hear more about it in a video. Most of us know the basics of cooking but beautiful equipment gets us excited.
Just chiming in to remind everyone, again: you can make brown sugar as-needed by mixing white sugar and molasses! Avoid the problem of hardened brown sugar completely!

Just for those looking for more of that classic cookie cake icing, using a a shortening-based icing causes it to crisp up similar to how many bakeries make it. Still, great recipe though, love the channel.
That sprinkle drawer is everything!!!!
Who da thunk it?! Wow! I’m obsessed with his kitchen.
My six year old self who lives actively in my head went completely bonkers for those sprinkles....
Yeah I was gonna say I like those confetti sprinkles
My eyes nearly popped out of my head when it saw it!
IKR!!
