Abomasum - by definition - The fourth and final Stomach of a Ruminant.... The reason I called this song Abomasum, it’s because during the writing process, I’d had chance to digest the other songs we’d written, and think about how I wanted to shape the record, and this was the 4th song we wrote. In terms of the concept side of this album track - it’s the idea of this person digesting his failures to uphold his responsibilities in his life, causing further troubles and struggles.... it’s a slippery slope, thus leading to an internal mental battle through sadness, anger and lastly hope.... mania to put it simply.
I like the atmosphere that your creating with the video with the shadows and silhouettes. It fits with music . The intro is good establishing the mood and feel of the song. Your transitions are good. I love your use of dynamics and feel you brig with your band. I really enjoy this. Thank you For being awesome!
I had the album playing yesterday all day in my lab at the UC San Diego School of Medicine; Toska officially has a neuroscience lab sponsor now. My staff and grad and med students love it. I'm giving extra credit to the student who can first accurately name all of the time signatures played in on the album. Thanks for the notes on the writing process and concept development. Congrats to you, Ben, and DAVE. If you ever tour SoCal and need help here, I'm a devoted fan.
I'm a Neuroscience student at UCL and a big fan of Toska as well and one of my professors is a big prog fan. I wonder if this is a trend among Neuroscientists 👀... Further testing may be required...
Once in a Q/A video, someone said Toska sounds like a cold, dark forest or something along those lines. This song feels like Bea took that comment to heart. It’s an amazing song with lots of different textures. Bea, Ben and Dave, you all should be mighty proud of yourself, this album is a culmination of all those hours put in. From that first “Bea’s Last Performance at ACM”, to now. We’ve heard so many bits and pieces of these songs in vlogs. It sounds well... exactly as Bea himself said it, it sounds like the sound the guys had in their head. Really, really love the album, really love the themes of it. Hoping there’s gonna be a kickass making of for this album! Thanks for the music guys and thanks to the people at DarkFable for these music videos!
The melody, chord structures, and approaches overall (drums, bass, guitar) are just so stand-alone - its own thing. Then there are those spine chill moments, harmony-wise, that hit in a similar way like Layne Staley's vocal harmonies did. It's progressive, yet never comes off as math. It's technical, but never loses an ounce of feel. Toska is just really really great art. Love this.
For me this is the best song on the album. Pleasantly suprised by how much I like the album as I'm not normally into the prog stuff, but songs like Abomasum, when I listen to them , I don't get tired of the song and by the end its just a journey musically that you didn't realise lasts over 8 minutes. It's brilliant. Never thought an instrumental progressive metal album would be in my top 10 albums of the year, but I guess it is now haha.
This isn't normally the type of music I listen to, but I wanted to check it out I'm glad I did - it's fantastic and the amount of work you guys put into this is evident! The production quality, and guitar tone, are at Dream Theater levels - just amazing work!!
You guys, and especially Ben have really smashed it out of the park with this album, the drumming particularly in this song is so so so good. It's great hearing that you've taken your influences, digested them and brought them back into your own original music. Like hearing Karnivool in this song at 7:02 and Porcupine Tree in Congress. Breathtaking stuff guys.
Very nice song!!! First, there is a lots of things to process when listening to an 8 minutes song. I had to listen a couple of time to appreciate all the details. What I like in this song is the different mix of tempo, clean tones and distortion, the different transition between those tones and tempos. Like the ambient mood created in the beginning and in the end. I think Rabea's appreciation of ambient sound is well reflected in that song. The drumming part is very nice and it complete all the melody. I appreciate that you have a nice balance between all the instruments. The bass part is subtle and give power when it is time. The melody at 2:32 is really nice. You did a great job on this one for sure!!! As for the video, love it. We dont need a lot of thing to happen cause it would have distracted us from the music. And the mood created with the light in the back and the dark in front is just perfect to see a bit of action. It is nice to see you all play but the music is the important part here!!! Well done!!!
even though i have amazon music unlimited, i'll be buying this album now, and listening to it today during work. not one for harry potter references, but, be, in those full band shots, you do look like a young version of hagrid rocking out 🤣😂
Everyone involved in the making of this album should be incredibly proud. It's insane! Such a step up from Ode to the Author, and that was a masterpiece in itself!
Far out this album is special. Listened to it 3 times completely through yesterday, and I have to say, the initial shock and awe hasn't left me when listening to these pieces. Really fantastic work Bea, Dave and Ben. Thank you for your art.
You guys may or may not read this but here is my 2 cents from the album after listening it for almost 8 hours at work: matured, grown up, self-conscious are probably the adjectives I can give it right now. For most part seems to be a very personal album, somehow feels that everything there has an hedonistic lure, with this I mean that was made by the band for the band, thinking first what you guys want to play and what you guys enjoy, and I think that is great. It's not made to impress how technical or proficient you guys could be, is like painting with the right colors and not choosing them all for the sake of using all shades of colors available. What I like the most is that it sounds timeless which is good, which is actually excellent because it won't become obsolete like all trends. Love how the album starts and how it ends, somehow the ends is at the same time the welcome (intro) to the intro, so the production is like a loop. Anyhow, you guys were good before, your previous production was really good as well, but this is another level and because that I can say that I can put Toska now just there with my favorite bands like Russian circles, ISIS, Pelican etc, etc. Well done 👍
this album i have listened 4 times on spotify already . this is one of the most musically complex, emotionally driven music i have heard . you have a amazing way you write you music . i feel every emotion on this album . fear,hate,sadness,lust,revenge,love..... just to name a few . that is incredible ...... you guys are a major influence on how i hear and write my music. i wish you had USA tours but maybe someday .
I literally got full goose bumps dude... Every aspect of this song is so well thought out but also flowing and natural! My fave song this year by far! Keep up the good work lads.
You know you've struck gold when you find a band who consistently puts you on the verge of tears AND have you headbang like a madman without saying a word. You don't listen to Toska, you experience Toska. And throughout that experience, I'm constantly left in awe: amazed at the perfect structure, melody, and FEELING. One can only hope to become a musician who can create something half as beautiful as this.
I have been playing these tracks non stop since 12 a.m. the night it came out except for a little sleep obviously. Rabies and the boys are so inspiring. This kind of music is a journey. It’s something you “listen” to. There is too much music that can be thrown on in the background, but this requires you to pay attention to the emotion and feel a story. Great job and this is why I will always support this band, just stellar songwriting and performing. The mix is done very well too and the energy builds in your guys songs are just immense. All the head banging man...that doesn’t even do it justice! Great work gents!
love how the song started slow and atmospheric and then builds up with slight dissidence and power...allot going in this song as far as textures and changes that all come together into yet another great song off this album ..awesome stuff
I listened to 5 songs on repeat since this afternoon. Absolutely amazing. However, I immediately got rid of the 4 other tracks in my playlist after hearing them only once. Those are not for me. These 4 include the title track surprisingly enough.
This is such a beautiful ride... I listened to it 4x back to back this morning - completely shutting out the world and just lying there... letting it take me on a journey.
6:11 those chugs and that snarling bass, interspersed with the strummed chords... jesus that's one of the most badass things I've ever heard. Probably my favorite track off the album thus far, so glad y'all made a video for it.
While making the musicvideo, did you guys record yourselves playing the song faster but then slow the video down in post to match the speed of the song? It feels like that but it works so fucking well.
I only just now discovered this band, and you cannot believe how glad I was to not see any microphones set up for vocals. Stuff like this is just instantly better as instrumental music. Very nice.
Who else, at 3:57 gets BTBAM? Now that is purposeful obviously ...Rabea Massad's tone is unparalelled. Thanks for being such an awesomely creative, unique, and inspiring band!
I love the whole major key Toska vibe here. There's always a special spot in my heart for the massive headbanging drop of Prayermonger, but this is simply gorgeous, guys. Well done.
The problem I always have with instrumental metal is there's never any room left for atmosphere because the drums are bascially a storm of beats. This is spacious, lots of room for the bass which sounds incredible and the mix puts everything just far enough apart to give the composition real presence without one element being overwhelming. Now I'm really glad I got myself the CD version! The section starting around 4:30 sounds gorgeous!
Gentlemen... That is absolutely freakin' AWESOME!!! Extremely tight sound. Love it!!! Love the moody feel to it. The progressions are darkly intellectual. Would be great for a soundtrack in a game. It takes you mentally to someplace yet unexplored, but exciting and maybe a little dangerous... Really great work!
What an atmosphere😊. Lot of research needed to make a tittle loke this. There s no more time and no more space when i listen to it. Just your instruments and my ears... great job guys. A french fan.
Absolutely amazing. I'm from the Philippines and I think not a lot of people know and appreciate your music here. I remember the time I was in the hospital with dengue fever for a week. OTTA really helped me out since I was feeling fine after day 3 but they had to keep me there for observation. I had no guitar, no TV, just my phone and a pair of headphones to pass the day in a trist hospital environment, feeling absolutely well, but not really able to go anywhere or do anything. With this I would like to thank you for your music(damn that sounds like an ABBA song). This album once again helps me menthally getting through some rough times... Thank you again so very much. Keep it up. I hope that one time I'll be able to see you live.
By far the most interesting instrumental band to come out period! The Dynamics of this song gave me goosebumps through the whole thing. Stuff like this reminds me why I'm a musician!!! Much love!!
Jesus! Great song, and those sounds! All of them. The guitar tones are superb, and the bass and drums sound huge without taking up any space needed by any other tones. I'm buying this album right now, brother!
FANTASTIC!!!! Bass and Guitar tones are sooooo good. Can't wait to hear the whole album. I hope you guys blow up so maybe someday you can do a tour in the states.
I feel like I could crawl inside myself and reflect on everything I’ve experienced while listening to this! You have a really unique quality in your sound that I’ve never heard before.
Farkyeah! Marvelous song and video clip! These guys have such a refined taste and vision of music! Come back, guys! Let's hear you again. And we look forward to see some new videos like this one! ;)
wow, this is beautiful! This song makes me reflect about everything, even though it has no lyrics. That's the magic of music. It's a language by itself
Love this! Even though it's not real technical it still hold interest, and the instruments still tell a story despite not having words. Amazingly done you guys
I love your chord choice and the drum work. That tom pattern with the rim clicks was super creative. The clean passages into the heavy bits were inspiring. The bass playing and tone were sweet! Love the mix, too.
Absolutely insane. I really appreciate the writing inspiration you guys have given me, adding another great flavour into my musical palette. The way all of your music fits together perfectly really shows what 10 years + playing together creates. The new album is killer! Thanks guys
I love this. It isn't over the top. I sounds like something that should be in a spy movie. The deep bass notes get me... I hate when instrumetals get too long. This is perfect.
Love the album!I just can not stop listening to the album ,I swear I've listened more than 50 times since last night .....hope to see you in Paris . Cheers!!
I'm blown away at how amazing this entire album (as well as EVERYTHING else by you (and Dave and Ben), including Ode to the Author and Grinding Gears) is. It's thrillingly incredible. Inspiringly brutal and brutally inspiring!! MASSIVE sound. Every single note and beat is absolutley masterful! Abomasum is freaking sick. The ending of Congress is triumphant. I've been listening to this whole album on repeat the past like 4 days and I am blown away with each listen! It is some of the most amazing composition in these modern days. Great work guys! I'm a big time fan of your style, Rabea, you're uniqueness inspires me to master the guitar. Thanks you guys! Greetings from Utah!
Abomasum - by definition - The fourth and final Stomach of a Ruminant....

@@RabeaMassaad I've listened to the album so much that I've already memorized the lyrics. Nice work guys.

Am I listening to the right song? I hear no vocals.

Those harmonies, man! Toska never disappoints. Bought the album and it's now on repeat.
