I'm just another late arrival from the PS+ monthly. What I wanted to know most was regarding weight distribution and performance, as the game doesn't explain jack. (in particular if having multiple sails is effective/practical)
Hey your on the right channel haha. Thanks for watching. I am on PC and some things are a bit different, but for the most part its the same. When it comes to sails they used to matter but now they seem to go the same speed regardless of how many you have on your raft. I do have a video planned about this and will try to incorporate weight distribution into the vid as well. Regarding performance, what did you have in mind? As in what materials are best or motor vrs sails?
@@lateinthegame438 Great vids. I watched one other video about the same subject(sorta) and types of material and you did a really good job. I learned early on that the triangle shape worked best for me. The most difficult thing was trying to get sails pointing in all directions and close enough for me to use while steering. Steering the 5 wide rafts is apparently like steering the titanic. If there was icebergs in the game you would be hitting them all. I did find out with a little patience and glitchiness you can get the anchor and rudder to clip in the same spot. It's only worked when I use the metal flooring but it could be a coincidence🤷♂️
17:29 "You're gonna be stranded deep" *ba dum tish* LOL Man thank you for putting 9 hours into making this for us! I really appreciate it. I learned more from your video than I did from other raft-building tutorials. Yours is calm, steady paced and funny! Thank you for this video and all your hard work to bring it to us. You certainly got me excited to build my first raft. Only been playing for a couple of days, but loving it already :)
6:18, I am pretty sure that the difference people note is when you make a Full raft and the amount of weight the Completed raft can hold... is nice you put a container panel on them but that's hardly testing their limits huh. put a 3 story building on each and you will see how buoyant they are depending on which are STILL buoyant. Most have issues when they build it and looks fine near their island. then when they load it up with filled boxes at other islands to bring home that they find out its not as buoyant because of the Excess weight.
Your right i wasn't testing the limits, that wasnt the point of this video. I was simply trying to show that all materials have the same buoyancy per section. The majority of buoyancy issues in this game would be a 20 min video on its own🤣. But it does sound like people are not equalizing their weight therefore it sinks. Too much is too much, but even a small hall concentrated to a single area of the raft will cause it to list and sink. Im still messing around with it to better understand it all before i make a video about it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a Great Play!
Cool vid. I did learn a trick to get things out of the big cargo ships. I've got one in my play through that I couldn't figure out how to get things out, but now I know about the ghost build, I'll be getting them now.
My favorite raft design is like this: 0 000 00000 000 I put my rudder on the back right, my motor on the back left, and the anchor in between, with my sail on the same section as my anchor. Then I kill my visibility by adding 6 shelves of crates lol I also made a big barge design that carries around 20 shelves, but all the "controls" are at the front. That thing is beastly and sluggish, but it makes resource gathering or base moving a lot easier lol
Nice! I like that. I have a similar design that I will have in my next video, if I can ever sit down at my computer again😂. The nice thing is you can switch to 3rd person so you can see over the crates. I really enjoy having controls on the front, totally different feel. Thanks for sharing your design! Have a great play!
@@lateinthegame438 I should add that I have the single piece on the bow for disembarking safely onto shore. I just beach the bow, drop the anchor, and walk right off the raft onto the beach. I usually just use the motor for backing up off the shore and getting myself turned in the direction I need, then switch to sail and rudder.
Keep up the good work, I just found the Chanel but I love it so far you definitely keep the video interesting and entertaining! I made sure to like and sub as well

That's crazy that here a year later, I have built my raft in a triangle, placed container shelves and I put my sails in the same number and places exactly like you did yours, to the letter, but I used all Bouy Balls. Completely independent of ever seeing yours and without looking at anyone else's. That's how you know it's meta.
I make the same raft but i leave the center open. You can attach the rudder in the open hole, makint it more maneuverable and can easily put a sail and anchor within reach.

Mainsail on most sailing vessels does not fold up and drop down to unfurl. Most fold down and must be raised up to operate, which is why it is called raising or hoisting the main. The ones that fold up and open by dropping down are normally secondary sails of some sort.
