Vella la Vella Island Logging Forum 2024

A one-day logging Forum was held at Pusiju village yesterday with the support from Pacific-Community-SPC Pacific People Advancing Change (PPAC) Phase 6 grant.
A total of 40 participants attended the historical forum where the Western Provincial Government Officers, Vella Council of Chief President, Bina House of Chief, Tribal leaders, religious leaders, Women and youth representatives from the Island came together to discuss the pressing issue on this industry.
The one-day forum and two days (prior and post) informal discussion among the participants were crucial to the learning exchange opportunity for community leaders.
The constructive Forum was guided by in-kind support from Western Province Government Officers and SVTA for example presentations made about the overview of the logging industry for the past 40 years, the current status of the industry, what are the Advantages, Disadvantages and Opportunities for the current and future generation in this industry.
The project was implemented by Sirubai Voko Tribe Association with Technical support from Indigenous People for Sustainable Biodiversity Solomon Islands.
