For real, also, I’ve been in Mexican grocery stores…many of their cookies have distinct names to them. There are no “Mexican cookies,” but rather polverones (really tasty, but messy to eat..they have a cinnamon sugar coating), Maria cookies, wedding cookies, and orejitas (a fried pastry similarto an elephant ear).

Can you imagine what it feels like for your dad to say a million racist stereotypes very publicly against your mother and yourself? That has to make a kid feel very unloved and will likely cause some internal racism within them. It’s disgusting. You just know he goes home and tries to defend his jokes to his wife under the premise they’re “just jokes.”
Its definitely worse if they grow up to be like him because then you have (i think he has 3 kids) 3 more humans that are cheating lying POS. So comedy yes is subjective, but you can tell from this 25 minute special that this guy has relied on his frat boy friends telling him he's funny rather than bounce off material from many different types of audiences. He Clearly has like 2 joke setups and their not too well thought out. It's essentially like a bunch of crypto frat bros sat in a living room were like " yo brenden, your like so funny brooo, you should do standup for the pod bro".
Would have to be his "frat boy" friends or some people other than his comic friends. There is no way they'd want to be responsible for letting him do it.... Unless that is the joke :)
Sense of humor is subjective but there is a craft to stand-up that really separates the greatest comedians from the rest. A great comedian can tell a joke about something you find really offensive but you still recognize it was a great joke or even make you laugh.

Seeing the clips of the doctor cut with this man's "comedy" is infuriating. That doctor had to study for years and put in even more absolutely back-breaking and often thankless work. The whole "I'd rather kms than spend time with my wife and kids" is not the comedy gold that he thinks it is. Nobody made you get married and have kids my guy!
Fun fact: he had no interest in stand-up comedy until a few years ago when Joe Rogan convinced him to try it. Did I say fun? I meant painfully apparent.
Even though Brendan claims hes always wanted to be stand up comedian his whole life. Which is the biggest BS I’ve ever heard. Not to mention he called George Carlin “George Carlton” on his podcast. The dude cant stop lying. He really lies about everything
I think the nacho joke is supposed to be like the joke where an anti vaxxer would say they don't want to get the vaccine because they don't know what's in it but then smoke and eat processed food so they really don't care if they don't know what's in things they're putting in their bodies. He just made the joke really poorly.
You’re giving Brendan way way too much credit. That would never occur to him in his wildest dreams. The ‘joke’ was that he stuck his fingers in his mouth to ‘lick the nacho cheese’ off of them. It was the fingers in the mouth. Which obviously we all tried to avoid doing at nauseam during the pandemic
@@Hey_Jamie I don't think so. Because he made sure to make the "guy" say he wasn't going to put that in his "temple". Look I don't like the guy and he's obviously an idiot. But I think that's what he was talking about. And if anything, if that is the case it's worse because he's just using a dumb lib joke for his own purposes. And in that way, I'm not giving him any credit other than he heard the joke and changed it to nachos instead of smoking which is how I originally heard the "joke" made on the internet. It's pretty easy to steal "dumb lib memes."
I work at a comedy club and I remember when Brendan Schaub came through for a weekend to do some shows, and as someone who sees a lot of comedians, he’s not funny. The max capacity in our showroom is 400 seats, the highest number of people that came to any of his 6 shows was 143. To put things into perspective, Noel Miller also stopped by for a weekend. Expectations weren’t super high, but Noel was pretty good considering this was his first standup tour. He had two sold out shows that weekend.
It's strange that he's in Texas talking at Texans, about Mexicans and Latino culture. They've heard his takes all their lives. They live among Tex-Mexicans. Wouldn't it have been better to do this show about Mexicans to an audience where it may seem a bit fresh? Like Milwaukee or Toronto. It's like he went to Minnesota and told a bunch of tired "boy it's cold up here!" jokes.
Question for you TheePoetrGod, since you worked at a club. Why does Brendan often look to a precise point in the distance to his left? Is there a guy holding cue cards for him? Or perhaps a group of friends that give him confidence. Neither would be horrible. I'm just wondering. Do comedians use cue cards? See starting at 16:00.
"My wife's a real Mexican, not a Taco Bell Mexican." *Cut to Mike Birbiglia calling his dad an Olive Garden Italian. But I wouldn't say Schaub's definitely familiar with Mike's material. I would NEVER accuse him of being a comedy fan.*

Pisses me off when these manly men perpetuate the "my wife and kids drive me nuts" thing like it's the masculine norm. Maybe you just married someone you aren't compatible with and aren't mentally equipped to raise children? I have a 3 year old daughter and she does nothing but bring joy to my life. My wife went out of town without us for the first time last weekend. She kept apologizing for leaving me to take care of our daughter alone and you know what? We had a blast. Put her in her cutest outfits and did her hair cute and took her to the fair, the movies, a bunch of different play grounds, got her to try fun new food. Amazing.
@@ciellouise8153 well she only felt guilty cause she was going on a little vacation to see her family but in the end she was jealous of all the photos I sent her haha. But yeah I kept telling her not to feel band and to just go and have fun.
Wes Watson is one of the most masculine dudes ever. 10 years in the pen in Cali, fitness trainer, hardcore af, and constantly talks about how much he loves his wife and son. I don’t get why it’s “manly” to hate your family. Some of the most masculine hardcore men I ever met loved their wives/girlfriends and kids. If you hate the person, don’t marry them. If you hate kids, don’t have them.
Somebody lied to him several times and told him that he was smart and funny and clever and insightful. But he’s nothing like that; he’s nothing of the sort.
Vaccine jokes and covid jokes from any comedian are alme limp dick attemps and I think are just filler content. He took bits from every movie he's seen ,and meshed the punchlines together. With alot of unnecessary volume and over delivery. He was the funny joke in high school and college and his bros laughed, so why won't everyone else. Bryan and Rogan have really enabled him.
Libertarians marrying "exotic" women and using it as a cover for racism is such a meme at this point. The funniest part of this special is how clueless he is about the fact that he's just a stereotype. Like if you wrote him as a clueless character in a sitcom, he would be too on the nose.
Get over it, there are stereotypes about everyone. Blonde jokes were the thing for years but we never cried about it and people moved on. As another latino, I TOTALLY AGREE LOL. IT'S SO TRUE. Or when it's the white basic person coming from a first world country and learns a word in Spanish to repeat it constantly in the incorrect way and pretend it was good.

Also, his actions are so learned. The hand thing and walking around makes it so apparent that he watched a Kevin hart special seconds before he hopped on stage. His jokes are reminiscent of Gabriel, and he’s trying so hard to tell stories like Eddie Murphy
I mean, comedy central used to do 30 minute specials that were cut down for commercials, but yeah. If you were going to release it yourself, that's cringey.

I would feel so humiliated as a doctor who took time out of my day to care for him if I saw that and found out that all he got from our interaction was “CHINESE. THAT GUY CHINESE”
When I was a child my pediatrician was an Indian immigrant. He was a wonderful doctor and could understand and speak English extremely well, I just had the hardest time understanding his accent. I was always so embarrassed whenever I surpassed three "could you repeat that?"s lmao. Anyways my whole point is that I never blamed the doctor himself, and I certainly wouldn't ever joke about how "bad" his accent was or do a racist impression of it. This special reminds me of the other day when my Lamborghini had a flat tire. I pulled over on the highway with cars zooming past doing at least 250 mph to change the tire. While I’m changing it, I kid you not, a clown car pulls behind me and 15 clowns get out with tools and a jack to help me out. They were actually mimes so they just pretended to have tools and do things helpful. And then all of a sudden one attacked me so I axe kicked him in the head and jumped in my Ferrari and sped away. You can have that anecdote for your next special Brendan.
You know you Stole that story from Brendon, you “Wanna be bro whisperer”LIAR! HE drives a Lambo, He can kick clown ass cuz he’s a Trained MMA Fighter, NOT YOU!!!
After watching this special multiple times. I think I can now safely say I understand the thought process of the "nacho joke". Brendan says, to paraphase "Oh this guy that just said 'dicey-dicey'. I bet he thinks his body is a temple. He also walks funny. He probably thinks that vaccinations will make him unhealthy!". He then continues the joke with "But this guy is fat. He probably eats unhealthy food like cheesey nachos. He probably also looks stupid doing it. His body isn't a temple, he's a hypocrit." He then continues that joke with "His cognitive dissonance is in fact so great that I will start calling him Mr.Wholefoods, a place known to sell vegetables. He probably has never been there. Ha-ha!" He then continues that comment with "I give up dude. There's no talking you straight." It's understandable this is hard to comprehend. The soundcloud rapper levels of mumbling. The ural mountain sized leaps in logic. Or how Brendan lost an argument againt someone that said nothing. This is all very confusing to normal people.
I'm just using this as an example since he mentioned it, but just because your Mexican wife leaves Flaming Hot Cheetos around the house doesn't mean all Mexicans love those. It means your wife likes them.
There is something to it, i live in Mexico and flaming hot chips are very popular, but then again all chips are popular, people often go for the flaming hot ones just because they're the spiciest available.
Nachos “joke” explanation in my understanding: Guy doesn’t wanna get vaccinated, he refers to his body as a temple, then points out he’s eating nachos which are not healthy and then sarcastically calls him “Mr Wholefoods” which is a “health conscious/nicer” grocery store. Idk I’m Australian but that’s what I understood. Still a weak, tacky joke.
Yeah I don't want to defend Brendan in anyway, but I also don't understand how someone didn't get that. Its still not funny but I at least understand what he's trying to get at.
Yeah, sets and specials are normally 45-60 minutes, I'm guessing half got cut out for being too offensive to spread countrywide compaired to a small show in Texas.

Straight people forget that they need to be friends with their partner, no shit they make gay jokes sound like that- they want friends who they can kiss but they’re too sexist to believe they can be friends with the women they date
I felt sick imagining him seeing that bit after he mentioned how fulfilling the relationships with the fighters are. All of his “jokes” come off as bad attempts at mimicking similar jokes made by other better comedians he looks up to but yet is completely oblivious as to what made those other jokes funny in the first place. It’s absolutely bizarre. His entire set comes across as a terrible attempt at translating jokes into another language and failing miserably, like all of the pieces are there but nothing makes sense and all of the humor is completely nonexistent.
He took memes, locker room guy talk and those passing comments non comics throw out randomly in our day to day lives and tried to make it into something. This isn’t a special, it’s not even a mediocre. I wonder what 3rd career he wants to have terrible stand up in. I don’t know if I should feel bad for his wife and her family or if I should feel like you married him you had to know what was coming. She may be a very nice woman married to a metrosexual dummy.
no doubt that's exactly what it is. literally it's like he just watches all of Joe Rogan's podcasts to take notes, then looks at standup by the comedians from Joe's videos and takes notes on that
I remember Joe Rogan telling a story about a mountain lion, when I googled it, Joe told a hilarious story with more heart, better timing and striking use of expressions and body language- it was an off hand story more than a bit, 100 times more engaging ,interesting and funny than ANYTHING in Brendens whole special.

Good video. I wanted to respond and clear up a train of joking and explain what he's talking about. When he talks about marrying a Mexican woman and people cheer out of nowhere it is because that part of Texas has historically had a huge relationship between the Mexicans and the gringos. Gringo means not Hispanic essentially in most real-life contexts. So gringo papi means the father of a Mexican child who is a white dude. Tex mex! It's more than just a culinary styling!
I really liked the fact that you went through the deeper aspects of the comedy. It would have been so easy to say 'racial stereotypes aren't funny' because obviously we all know that. You took the extra step to point out that the very structure of the comedy special was of no value.

Specifically, that one Weekend Update bit where Keenan Thompson would play a Latino baseball player and say Spanish words in a funny voice. He's not just making an unfunny joke, he's stealing a joke and making it worse.
His wife was born in California as well. She's not from Guadalajara and she didn't emigrate to the US. She speaks with a Californian accent. She's an actress.
I’ll be AMAZED if this isn’t his last “special”, he talks shit about his kids and wife for a joke, he’s the epitome of someone willing to throw anyone under the bus for a buck.
He's definitely one of those guys that just says the most disgusting things about his wife and kids, to his friends and, everyone loves it. So he thinks it's the funniest thing
Actually, talking crap about your wife and kids CAN be presented in a funny way as performed by Louis CK in pretty much all of his specials at one point or another. But I agree, if not presented in a funny way like Schaub here, it comes off as extremely cringe and insensitive to those people in his life that love him the most.
I think the best example of pacing and repetition in comedy is in John Mulaney's college bit where he's talking about his school requesting money from him. He calculates how much he spent a year, going back to the beginning with each new calculation, and then yells at the end. I think it's amazing
Playing football before that certainly didn’t help. He’s never been a bright man but the decline is so apparent these days that it really bums me out sometimes.

The sad thing is this guy is about a decade older than me (I'm also p old) and brought that garbage out on a whole-ass (or rather half-assed) stage in front of a whole-ass crowd.

He doesn’t even like that his kids speak Spanish, like seriously
If he scraped together enough brain cells to learn another language, he'd probably forget how to drive or something

No way that happen, you must be joshing me...
You know you Stole that story from Brendon, you “Wanna be bro whisperer”LIAR! HE drives a Lambo, He can kick clown ass cuz he’s a Trained MMA Fighter, NOT YOU!!!
Nah this had way more thought put into it than any of Brendan’s
Wow what a crazy story. Unbelievable
The Lamborghini suddenly being a Ferrari gets me more than anything else.
His body isn't a temple, he's a hypocrit."
He then continues that joke with "His cognitive dissonance is in fact so great that I will start calling him Mr.Wholefoods, a place known to sell vegetables. He probably has never been there. Ha-ha!"
He then continues that comment with "I give up dude. There's no talking you straight."
It's understandable this is hard to comprehend. The soundcloud rapper levels of mumbling. The ural mountain sized leaps in logic. Or how Brendan lost an argument againt someone that said nothing. This is all very confusing to normal people.
“Lost an argument against someone who said nothing” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Even if it's fake, his son shittalking him in Spanish is legit hilarious though
I'm just using this as an example since he mentioned it, but just because your Mexican wife leaves Flaming Hot Cheetos around the house doesn't mean all Mexicans love those. It means your wife likes them.
Yeahhh I thought the exact same. Im half Mexican and that was a stereotype I’d literally never heard before.
There is something to it, i live in Mexico and flaming hot chips are very popular, but then again all chips are popular, people often go for the flaming hot ones just because they're the spiciest available.
Nachos “joke” explanation in my understanding:
Guy doesn’t wanna get vaccinated, he refers to his body as a temple, then points out he’s eating nachos which are not healthy and then sarcastically calls him “Mr Wholefoods” which is a “health conscious/nicer” grocery store.
Idk I’m Australian but that’s what I understood. Still a weak, tacky joke.
You are correct in your understanding. It isn't a funny bit, but the fact that this goes over anyone's head is amazing.
ohhh that makes sense. i think it really says a lot about the delivery that i had no clue what he was trying to say until this comment LMAO
Yeah I don't want to defend Brendan in anyway, but I also don't understand how someone didn't get that. Its still not funny but I at least understand what he's trying to get at.

His entire set comes across as a terrible attempt at translating jokes into another language and failing miserably, like all of the pieces are there but nothing makes sense and all of the humor is completely nonexistent.
Holy shit. This is it. That's his whole thing.
She may be a very nice woman married to a metrosexual dummy.
no doubt that's exactly what it is. literally it's like he just watches all of Joe Rogan's podcasts to take notes, then looks at standup by the comedians from Joe's videos and takes notes on that
Seems like he's doing a really bad impression of Dane Cook

It was “the biggest needle he had ever seen” and the doc said it would be “the worst pain of his life.” I nearly lost my right eye and had to get 25 stitches in my face after a dog bit me when I was around 8 years old. Calm down dude, your wimp is showing.
when i was 7, my dog bit through my bottom lip somehow and i needed two stitches- i didn't even react until they brought out the needle, and even then i was fine after it happened 😭 he's a coward in every sense of the word
Hey I nearly lost my right eye to a dog too when I was 9. Only got 22 stitches and it's hard to see the scars anymore (had one reconstructive surgery)
Brendan better hope he never develops type 2 diabetes (since type 1 usually appears before middle age) and becomes insulin-dependent, or develops any chronic health issues that are treated with injections.
What kind of dog?
I got I think 4 stitches with a quick swipe of some kind of local anesthetic when I was young by my eye and didn't even feel it. And I'm a wimp, I hate pain and discomfort - no tattoos and thought ear piercings hurt (lobe).
I'm not sure he needed a syringe for his anesthetic either? I guess it may depend on the injury. I don't think he's a wimp, I think he's a liar and just doesn't know how these things work or how painful they actually are.
