You are so Musically Talented to pick up and Appreciate this Music! As a Violinist and a Pianist not everyone picks up on this genius created Music ! I grew up in Sweden and my heart ❤️ is close to Abba and all the Music they created!
This is one of the favorite ABBA’s song. My first language is Spanish…. So, the Spanish version of ABBAs song were the very first I had knew from them. I have kept them since my childhood. This song is so positive, bringing to us an spirit full of joy and faith. I love it! Cheers, Norber from Argentina.
Yes, Frida sings lead vocals in spanish too. On all the songs she has the lead vocal in the english original: Fernando, Estoy Soñando (I have a dream), Andante, Andante, Conociéndome, Conociéndote (Knowing me, knowing you), No Hay a Quien Culpar (When all is said and done).
What an incredible group of people these four. They must have been really happy or full of just good feelings and emotions to write the lyrics they wrote and to do the music they did. Every song they have lift your heart and soul to heaven.
Love the rolling melodies and harmonies. Layer upon layer of them. Again, so seemingly simple so that the central melody stays with the listener, but incrementally adds more and more upon that melody taking the listener on an aural journey.
Very good your reaction Derek I notice how you appreciate the Spanish versions of ABBA and how you accompany them with your singing and when reading paragraphs of the lyrics afterwards, your spanish is really good (like the girls from ABBA) and I tell you as a Spanish speaker, I live in Buenos Aires Argentina "Al Andar" is one of the 8 songs that Agnetha and Frida recorded in Spanish during January/February 1980, with phonetic help from a Spanish journalist and lyrics adapted by Argentinians Buddy and Mary McClusky And so, added to the first ones recorded in 1979 (Chiquitita and Estoy soñando) ABBA completed an incredible album of 10 songs versioned in Spanish, called "Gracias por la Música", which was another great success in Spain and Latin America. "Al Andar" is very well sung in Spanish Agnetha and Frida, despite being Scandinavian, overcome the logical cultural and language barriers and do outstanding vocal work. (Also I like the original "Move on" a little better) When you can, I suggest you do "Gracias por la música", which is their best work in Spanish and has an official video in which you see the four of them singing in Spanish the version of the original "Thank you for the music" Again as a Latin American I thank you for this special reaction I wish you an excellent weekend from South America
That's something that makes me a bit sad, that we in Brazil only speak Portuguese, yet we are Latinos but we don't enjoy so many Spanish songs. Imagine a swedish band singing a special album in Spanish for the Spanish speaker fans... Damn I'd die if I and found out that my favorite band made an album in Portuguese!! You guys are so damn lucky!! Big hugs from your Brazilian hermanos from south of Brasil! 🇧🇷❤️
Exotic.Reminded my 1980 Xmas holidays. Was in my pre- teens, had already bought with my pocket money the "Super Trouper" album. Then my father went for a buisness trip in Madrid and when he returned... surprise!.. brought me the "Gracias por la musica" vynil lp plus "TWTIA" single incl."Elaine"! I got overjoyed spending hours looking on those vinyl's sleeves cause my turntable was broken so i listened to all of them some days later after travelling 350km to my aunts house for Xmas Eve. She had just bought a new DUAL stereo system. What a joy!Best childhood Xmas i've had "scented" with Abba's music!
I got this album from a high street record store (HMV in the centre of Leeds), where I was at school, and had just started learning Spanish. You may laugh. but the fact that I knew these songs backwards in English really gave me a head-start in the language. Buying imported vinyl in 1980 was not straightforward before the advent of the worldwide web, at least in a large city in the north of England: even the big record shops only bought a tiny number of imports, and they were so much more expensive than those pressed in the UK. I remember buying a brand new Swedish pressing of the album "Ring, Ring" by the same method - literally, one copy of it in the whole place, which cost about 50% more than the UK releases, but not available in any other way. I believe that Agnetha and Frida learned the lyrics phonetically. I learned Castillian Spanish, rather than Hispanoamericano, but their accents sound pretty convincing to me - I've been told that the brain uses the same parts to learn languages as to learn music, and it shows on this track.
This has feels to it, and I can see why you loved ABBA so much. Their songs are great and they gave their all. Definitely a band that people should appreciate more. Let the nostalgia hit us once again 😔
Frida sang Spanish versions for Fernando, Knowing Me Knowing You, I have a Dream, When All it's Said and Done, and Andante Andante. I always got the feeling that Frida really enjoys to sing in spanish; on 2018 she re-recorded Andante Andante with trumpeter Arturo Sandoval, a little toned down with the same high quality vocals.

I completely agree! Though it is a great song, The Arbiter was really a bad choice to discover the masterpiece that is Chess. I hope Dereck will give it another try but I think it’s unlikely since the views count on his Arbiter reaction is sadly very low…
Frida has the lead on the Spanish versions of Fernando, I Have A Dream ("Estoy Sonando", you've already reacted to that song), Andante Andante, When All Is Said And Done (No Hay A Quien Culpar) and Knowing Me, Knowing You (Conociéndome, Conociéndote).
Hello Dereck and everyone. In this one it is Agnetha who take the lead. And also in the first verse in the english version there's Björn whom is "talk/singing". In this spanish version it is Agnetha that is singing those lines.
@Lex Agree you can almost hear Frida's anger come out in the Spanish version! She had been know to say it was cathartic for her to sing this song following her divorce , you def get that from the Spanish version
Thank you so much for such an awesome reaction video on ABBA, you haven't made those vids to ABBA for a relatively long time :D Little, slight remark from me - lead vocal is performed by Agnetha here :)
Love both versions. Still it's so hard to track/recognise the 2nd (and sometimes third and forth) voice and sing them for myself. As always well composed!
Hey Dereck....yes that was what I had said, I've chosen Move On as my passing song....not in a bad way, but in a way that I'm moving on to bigger and better things....for somewhere out there is a far better place than this....a place of peace, love and harmony....a place where I will sing to the highest of glory...and live for eternity in joyess happinesses that I never had here on earth😊....Oh and by the way Dereck...you can sing...your voice is amazing! 🎤🎶🎵🎤😊....thankyou for this great review....Oh and yes Frida dose sing songs in Spanish, sweedish, German, and other languages other than English☺xo..cheers.
Hi Dereck, been awhile. Frida does lead on several Spanish tracks, she does the lead on No Hay A Quien Culpar (When All Is Said and Done), the video is up on TH-cam. Probably one of my favorite Frida vocals.
Yes. Derek has already reacted to 'Estoy Sonando'. I think that is actually better than the original 'I Have A Dream' in that it seems to flow better with Spanish lyrics and the children's choir is blended in better too.
This and Andante andante are the best Spanish versions, because You can hear them mixing slightly differently from English eg. Keyboards and synths (Andante Andante) sounds more clear and magnificent! So if You listen carefully, arrangement is a bit different! ☝React Andante Andante spanish, please!
I love both versions. Both have their pros. The pros of the Spanish version is that vocal harmonies are crisper in the chorus and Agnetha sounds splendid singing in Spanish, & the Lalalas are kept in the backgound (in the English version, they come to the forefront at the climax which I love). The same for the Spanish versions of Fernando and Chiquitita, the harmonies are so immaculate and crisp, I.prefer them both to the English versions despite the English versions being a more polished & bigger production. Also Dame Dame Dame (Gimme Gimme Gimme) is vocally outstanding.

Yep the male spoken intro is missing it’s now a normal verse that’s why I actually do prefer the original version. The other reason is a phonetical one. Move on is so smooth and warm. The vowel o is bringing warmth and depth to it. For me the title Al andar is not as attractive sounding to me.
