I think a heat gun would really come in handy for this type of thing George! It would really seal up all those rounded off edges and really make that vinyl stick good! This was a brilliant idea George and now I can find some of that material to fix mine up too! Woot!
George I have said to you in the past "no" other knife videos have a single thing over you my Pal. That worked out GREAT, you Got something going there, endless ideas can come from that. You are the BEST, all the other video channels on knives need to learn from you that is for sure. Thank you for what you share with everyone. Take care my Pal.
I was thinking, that is not going to work and would look terrible, I Was Wrong. It looks good. I think heating up the tabs some would make them easier to remove and put back together. Great job George.
Nicely done George! There’s a way that works to get a bubble out. It’s a linoleum trick. Use a pin to make a small hole in the center of the bubble and press the tape down. Hope that helps. Dave
You won’t believe this but I just ordered some of that sticky vinyl tonight for some of my knives!!! Then I watched your video and you are doing the same thing!! I thank you for the great tips that knife looks great!! I’ll give it a try tomorrow . Thanks George!
Great idea turned out pretty good .makes me think of duct tape .my friend used to put vinyl on cars, and he put it on with soapy water , not saying it would work to stop bubbles on such a small knife .God bless. Lee
There is a vinyl used in sign lettering that is very thin, (as thin almost as a coat of paint) adapts to curves with a little heat. That one came out pretty nice, thanks for sharing, George.
Looks great George. You still could use a heat gun to shrink it just go slow and and easy. I just found the exact same fish knife without the scales a day ago i have an idea of my own and if it works out well I will be sending one your way. Found your channel a couple months ago and been watching everything you put out great stuff. Wish me luck.
George my friend you did a great job my daughter n law messes with vinyl all the time can't wait to tell her about this. Maybe she can give me some tips to tell ya about. Huggles to you and Merry.
That looks great George! I wonder if a little heat would take those bubbles out after it cooled off? I’ve been wondering about those campking scales. I bet you could spray them with truck bed liner spray. That stuff is indestructible and pretty inexpensive. It comes in a can too so you could brush it on and they make it in different colors. Just a thought while my old brain still works! Lol Stay on the hard side of the ice my friend! 😊
Great idea George and good job for first try, if designed to be heated maybe a hair dryer on high blowing on it would make it attach and lay in place better, the knife Dr has had tabs break and he just glued the pieces back in place I have seen vinyl liquid that might work where there is a texture to the scales like some have, do you have a hobby lobby near you? Try have all types of hobby supplies like paints etc
Oh yeah, I was thinking they wrap cars w vinyl(that stuff is tough) and they tools and techniques to apply and smooth, they have videos online👨🏻⚖️👨🏻⚖️
A saw video on KnifeDelights channel for his technique to glue scales on after broken tabs. It was cool, fill backside of scale w hardening putty… let’s check it out.Michigan Dan
Too bad there wasn't a liquid vinyl you could dip the panels in. Keep up the nice work. There is a paint that hobby airplane builders use that might work
I have an Idea? light bulb!!! I worked for years in a custom cabinet shop. many laminates were applied with large bags plastic bags over what was supposed to be pressed over custom wooden furniture pieces. These bags were then hooked up to a machine that extracted the air out of the bag as a clamp to large items one could not force with so many clamps over curved surfaces. The Idea!!! place the material on the knife part into one of those food saver plastic bags that sucks the air out of the meat, and veggies to keep food fresh? and possibly could shrink the material to the metal??? Would it work? May even work to secure wood to the metal surface, far better than the clamps on the blanks, or placing the knife into a vice??? vacuum sealer bags as a clamp???
