  • Our Porsche Boxster 986 EBay exhaust drones like crazy on the highway so we installed some Db killer motorcycle exhaust inserts. Add some screws through the tailpipe to really secure it.

    Put one in my old 4 cyl jeep. Eliminated the drone. I used an exhaust expander and expanded about 3 inches into the pipe. Very tight fit but you can’t see it now. Then I very slightly bent the very end of my tailpipe so it won’t fall out. If it gives me trouble I can expand it back out and pull it. But it honestly sounds way better.

    Helpful, thanks. Ordered a pair of similar db killers for mine.

      screw them in Very Tight!. mine fell out. You might want some high temp thread lock on them.

    Installed a pair to reduce the drone on my aftermarket cat back muffler. They do eliminate the drone but the extra back pressure under hard acceleration was causing the CEL to flash and I also got misfire alarms so removed them just in case and all was well again. Don't mind the drone too much as it is a sports car anyway!!!!

      They fell out 2 days later anyway

      @@TheEddysGarage Mine did the same under hard accel so I drilled 2 small holes in the tailpipes and after inserting the units screwed 2 small self tappers into the tailpipe so that the head of the screw would stop the can from being blown out. Glad I have removed them.

      I am suprised that these would create more back pressure than the stock exhaust on the vehicle.. was it quieter than stock with these in?

    • @indieworks
      @indieworks ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dnasty1 the cat back muffler I installed is a lot louder than the standard box so the db killers quieten it down a lot but its still not as quiet as the original. The black paint does burn off to some degree.

    So, you can buy motorcycle baffles for this car? Huh. Don't guess I'll be trying this back pressure increasing mod anytime soon.

    Sounds better without for sure

      Sounds Wayyyy better without them and I wouldn't recommend them unless you have to pass noise restrictions.

    How did it sound on the highway?

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Still noise but with less of the booming drone that goes through your head at 2800 rpm

  • @Dnasty1
    @Dnasty1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm thinking of doing this on my car with a v8 and super loud cold start also some drone. Will this do much for the cold start volume? Also I have heard that the black paint melts off on these and gets everywhere did that happen to you?

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Don’t bother. They blew out the exhaust on the first drive to redline. Get a valved muffler

  • @FueledBy.Passion
    @FueledBy.Passion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    👎 not worth it unless you need it for like he says a track day. Drone on a Boxster with the top up is minimal as sound bleeds out due to the soft top.

    • @TheEddysGarage
      @TheEddysGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My mufflers have had all their cheap insulation blown out of them. The drone smashes through your head at highway speeds top up or down. I really need a new exhaust 🙉

      @@FueledBy.Passion funny you should ask because I got quotes for it on Monday. Some of the quotes were more than a new exhaust so I might just buy a welder and learn a new skill, or just buy a new exhaust.

    This is hard to watch. It’s a cheap mod to rectify an adverse effect of an earlier cheap mod. Kinda like throwing in more petrol to quell a fire

      @@TheEddysGarage M2 sounds rather interesting, particularly if you’re looking for cheap horsepower. My 986 Boxster S arrives in a two weeks. It’s a meticulously maintained low mileage example so will be interesting to see whether any unexpected maintenance gremlins pop up 😬
